Starting Firefox in Private mode from the pinned icon in taskbar (right click, choose "New Private Window") causes Windows Explorer to crash almost everytime, but not always. Very odd.
Didn´t happen with previous versions of Firefox.
Firefox 22.0, Win 7 Ultimate with all updates applied.

    Hello Paul,
That's a very odd behavior indeed. All I can think of is that an add-on is confused and makes Firefox crash. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Ejecting iphone causes Windows Explorer to crash

    Hi Guys
After I've synced my iphone in itunes when I eject or remove the iphone from the dock Windows Explorer always "crashes", well it restarts and windows says there has been a problem.
I've got the latest updates for both iphone and itunes. i had the same problem with vista as well (I know I know!).
Any ideas about how to prevent it? Its not terminal just a bit of a pain.
    Thanks in advance

I don't think that this is an iPhone issue. My wife uses Vista and a 3GS and doesn't have the same problem so my guess is that it's a PC config issue.

  • Ipod causes windows XP to crash upon connecting to craddle

I have an ipod that crashes xp every time I connect it to the PC. I have reset the ipod, and have re-installed win xp. I never had this before I updated to new apple itunes. What is going on?

I've noticed that you've asked that question a lot.
that's not surprising, Novy. blue screens are one of my "advice fields." (by no means the most common problem i work on, though. you can check whether or not i'm telling the truth about that by simply clicking on my alias and looking through a random sample of about 100 of the different threads you find me involved in. truth is important.)
i ask about the numerical and text codes of BSODs because there are literally dozens of different blue screen messages that you can get on a Windows PC. see:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
... and by cross-referencing the error codes with other information (like the circumstances of the BSOD, event log records on the PC in question, and any information showing up in the Device Manager on the PC), we can get a heads-up on a possible cause.
for example (not suggesting that this is your problem, it's just an example of the cross-referencing in action), one of the first thing i check for if people are reporting an 0x00000050 PAGEFAULT_IN_NONPAGEDAREA when they either launch itunes, import a CD in itunes, or (of all things) plug in an ipod, is this particular problem:
Easy CD Creator 5.0 Does Not Function In Windows XP
because truth is important, here's a search on the 0x00000050 code delimited by my alias:
    b noir: 0x00000050
back to your startup blue screen:
The only error messages that I get is the one that asks you if you want to start up in safe mode or start up normally because the system unexpectedly shut down because of a power/software/hardware issue.
could you give us the precise text of that error message? (a search of the KB docs at MS on segments of the precise text can often pull up some information on an error message like that.)

  • Updating iPod launches Windows Explorer - how to stop?

Every time I update my iPod, Windows XP launches a new Explorer window for the iPod (labeled as G:). How do I stop this automatic behavior? I don't have the iPod enabled for use as a drive, so my guess is that this is a Windows XP setting. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm not sure about Windows since I sync my iPod with a Mac, but on the Mac I do see that the iPod is unmounted/remounted before and after a sync (at least some of the time anyway, I've never really got to grips with it).
You might be seeing the same thing; when your manual sync is finished, Windows re-mounts the iPod and therefore opens Explorer again, just as it would when you first plugged the iPod in.
If you set it to "Take No Action" do you still have a problem?

  • Syncing to 30GB Video Ipod causes windows to physical dump

That's pretty much my problem. On my laptop(windows XP), I start to sync or even if I manually drag multiple songs onto my Ipod it starts doing it. Then about 5 or 10 songs in I get the dreaded blue Physical dump of memory screen. I've tried restoring my Ipod and that didn't work.
So I tried getting songs from my desktop computer(Windows XP also) and the same exact thing happens. It's so frustrating. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the Ipod itself or iTunes or Windows. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

  • IPod causes windows to freeze...NTSF format problem?

Hi. I formatted my ipod classic as NTSFso i could fit a large file on there. So i done that, but straight after i re-connected the ipod it hasn't been working. Windows will eventually recognize the ipod as a removable disk, but when i try to right click on it, windows freezes...so i can't get into the option to reformat it. And Itunes won't recognize the ipod at all.

  • Windows Explorer was crashing/restarting every few seconds and after trying several different methods of fixes, the only one that worked was removing Firefox, is there something I've missed that I can get Firefox back?

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was originally running Windows Vista 32-bit, but was upgraded by me to Windows 7 32-bit. On Windows Vista, all I would run was Firefox. I loved it!!! On Windows 7, I've noticed that Firefox kept hanging whenever I would try to download a file...from anywhere. I got so frustrated I went to try several different browsers. They all worked extremely quickly, whereas Firefox was working so slow, I could click on a link to a page, go get some lunch, come back and it still be trying to load the page. This was drastically unusual for Firefox. I used the other browsers and everything was fine for a week and then Windows Explorer started going down every few seconds. I went to the windows 7 forums and started looking. There were several suggestions on how to fix the problem, none of which worked for my compy. I tried restarting the compy in safe mode. That didn't help. I turned off every startup program except for the essentials and that DID work in keeping Windows Explorer from restarting. I then dove into the tedious task of trying to discern which 3rd party program was the offender. I removed everything from my compy that had been downloaded in the last ten days (well before the windows explorer issue, but not before the firefox issue). That didn't work either. I tried replacing an explorer file, which didn't work either. There were several other things I tried, as well, but nothing worked. Then, I saw a post that Firefox had caused the problem for one person. I went in and did as was suggested and completely removed Firefox and all associated files. Unfortunately, this worked. I haven't had any more trouble with windows explorer restarting. My big problem is, however, I can't run Firefox!!! And I LOVE Firefox!!! It's spoiled me! I hate Internet explorer, which is what I'm forced to run now. I've tried Safari and Google Chrome and don't like either one of those, either. I want my Firefox back! But if it's not working 100% it's less frustrating to be forced to live with the Internet Explorer. I'm going insane, here! Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried clearing out browser history, changing download files and a couple of other things and nothing worked with the Firefox to get it going better before I started having the Windows Explorer difficulty and had to completely erase the Firefox program. If I've missed any info, please don't hesitate to ask!! I'm happy to supply whatever I know about the issue!!

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

  • HT1329 iPod classic disc use - only some music visible in Windows Explorer!?

I followed above steps but then realized that it has only copied some of my music over. When I look at the music folder on the ipod in Windows Explorer, I only see some of the artists/albums/songs that actually on the iPod! I can see that a certain song is on my iPod and can play on my iPod without a problem, but it is not visible in Windows Explorer, hence it doesn't get copied over.
I can find the songs in the hidden ipod_content file on my ipod, but if I copy a file over to iTunes it gets added as a new file (which works), but the 'old' non-functional file is still there. We are talking hundreds of songs so doing it this way would mean hours and hours of locating manually and adding to playlists plus deleting the 'old' file in iTunes.
Is there a way to copy everything over from the ipod_content file and getting iTunes to match that with the missing songs like it did with the songs that were copied over the first time around?

    Hmm.
Ideally you would have copied the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new one, having first consolidated your library to make sure that all the media content was inside the iTunes folder. If it isn't too late then go back and do it again.
Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. If you have your preserved library file what might work is to manually recover the media files into a new iTunes library with the iLounge article near the end, get iTunes to organize the media. Then cut and paste the new media folder onto the one you had previously so that no duplicate files are created. With luck your original library can then find the recovered files.

  • What should the windows explorer directory be for the ipod?

    i have a 60gig ipod video.
i plugged into a computer in bangkok and i think my ipod music folder and others folders got shuffled around. when i turn on the ipod it shows completely empty, but the memory is still reading correct-50 gigs used, 7 free. I freaked out at first as i have no back up any more. But now i am quite sure that everything is still on there--i just need to move and rename folders and remove the ones inproperly put on there by the bad bad bangkok computer. So, could someone look at their ipod in windows explorer (make sure you are viewing hidden files as well and give me a breakdown of the normal directory tree -- or perhaps there is an online presentation of this.
    PLEASE HELP!!

    Is this what you want?
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This is a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • Ipod causing PC to reboot

I have been having trouble with my 20G ipod causing my PC to restart. First noted something funny when I would start to play a song on the iPod and then the song would immediately cut out and the ipod would turn off. This has happened repeatedly despite battery not being drained. I have also noted that when I plugged my ipod into the USB on my PC that it caused the computer to reboot and caused a "serious error". Since first problems developed I have updated to iTunes 5.0 (although this too was difficult but eventually successful when I turned off antivirus software and removed old versions of iTunes). I have verified that the iPod firmware is up to date. Any ideas as to a cause for this and a fix? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Of note is that I have used the iPod on my 2 different computers at times .... can this cause a problem?

I have the same problem, when I connect my iPod to my pc it reboots (actually crashes). After the pc is rebooted the iPod can sync with iTunses. I can repair the problem temporarely but it keeps coming back:
    - solution 1: run chkdsk on the iPod hard drive letter from windows explorer, it finds and corrects an error and the problem dissappears for some days
    - solution 2: run the iPod Updater (2005-06-26), this completely formats the iPod harddrive I think, since afterwards it has to put al my music back on it, the problem dissappears for several weeks with this
I'm getting nuts about this problem, I don't think it is good for my pc to crash every time I connect my iPod. Didn't find any help on the support section of the apple site.

  • Windows Explorer is no longer responding

I help take care many computers (200+) at my place of work. We have a guy that makes our Clones that we install on to the computers for us. Every so often, we get people that have issues with Window Explorer not responding. One fix that was found to
help with this was to take a copy of explorer.exe file from the windows folder to the system32 folder and send a copy of that to the desktop. From there we open it and repin it to the task bar after the old one has been unpinned. From time to time we get some
people that this will not work for and we have just gone and recloned the computer. We install all the basic hardware drivers and run windows update. Yes we do use policies on all users and computers. We have had a few computers that start doing this right
after all of the updates are done and we went ahead and started over. Then everything seems to be fine. Lately, there has been a few computers that we have done this to fix the issue have started doing it again. With reading may different things online on
possible ways to fix this, it has only worked on a couple. Still having some that these fixes are not working. List of what we have tried goes like this:
Disable the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer and see if it helps. To disable the Preview Pane, click Organize > Layout > Preview Pane.
Disable Thumbnails and see if this stops the problem. To do so, open Folder Options > View tab > Check Always show Icons, never thumbnail. Also remove
the check for the option to Display file icon on thumbnails. Click Apply/OK
Updated Outdated or corrupt video drivers can cause Windows Explorer to stop working. Update your drivers and see if it helps.
Recloned Computer and only have Drivers and updates installed.
    Few things we can’t really do is the;
Check Disk (seems this is even happening on brand new computers).
    Installed Add-ons.
Check if you have installed any helpers or add-ons to your explorer. Uninstall or disable them. Often, even 3rd-party shell extensions can cause Explorer to crash on particular actions. Several programs add items to the right-click context menu. (users can
not install anything without admin rights and we do not use addons in windows explorer).
System Restore – This is disabled.
Disable DEP or NoExecute Protection (this for many reasons)
Run sfc /scannow and at the end reboot if the system file checker asks for it. The System File Checker will on reboot, replace corrupt system files, if any are found. (We don’t use a DVD for the installs or to build the clones)
Wercon – Not available on our systems.
Start up programs – With policies in place, and what little is installed on the computers, there is nothing else starting up with the system other then Virus Scanner. And this problems can and has started before we can even get the virus scanner installed
    onto the computer.
Run the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool to check for possible memory problems, including testing of
the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer (this happens even on new computers till I reclone the computer and its fine)
These fixes I am talking about are found http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-explorer-crashes-freezes
This has started to get more and more in the last month with some of the Window updates that have been coming out. We are lost on what else to do to these computers. We are running Windows 7 Pro with SP1 and any and all updates possible with our policies.
Running Internet Explorer 9 (this is our standard for not all websites that are used are not supporting any newer versions). 4GB+ on memory. HP Compaq 8000 CMT or newer computers (most computers we have are the HP 8300 CMT). These computers are on contract
    to us with HP.
We have no idea what else to do to fix these issues. Not all of the people that this happens to wants to have the computer recloned when it may or may not fix the problem and it takes them so long to just setup the computer to their liking. That also means
the profiles are not all roaming. 90% of the users have a local profile. Please help with this issue. Any suggestions will be tested to see if they work. Thank you ahead of time for your help and time.

After over 2 months dealing with this issue, I have now found a fix that seems to be working for now. I have done it on a few computers and seem to working just fine. We had a way here that we used to fix this. It was to take the Explorer.exe file from the
windows folder and add it to the system32 folder (copy and paste it). Then right click on that file in the system32 folder and send to desktop (or you can just send a shortcut to the desktop right from the windows folder also works). Unpin the current one
from the taskbar. Open the new shortcut on the desktop and pin it back to your taskbar. This seems to work on some computers. Not all of them. For the next step, you do need to have this done though. Go to your control panel - Administrator tools - scroll
all the way down to Services (you will need admin rights to do this) and run the program. Scroll down to Windows Search and double click it. You will want to stop the service and change the startup type to Disabled. This seems to work without restarting the
computer but it is a good idea to do this anyway.  There seems to be an issue on some computers with the indexing causing it to not respond. I’m not saying this is the problem with all of them. If you read the other post, you can see there
are other options to try also. Some issues are also .dll files. In this area here are almost all of the possible fixes to this issue. Hope it will help others out. Good luck
PS. Sure hope Microsoft will fix this issue for good some day. But I dont think that will happen.
