IPod CHARGE UP issue??

the iPod doesn't charge up. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't... It's not a USB port issue I don't think... I've tried a high speed one and a slower one... I think it's in the iPod software...
Can ANYONE help here?
REALLY displeased with Apple.

Thanks Jeff! I did read that page.
I'm going to try some more tomorrow to check and see if it's my cord but I don't think it is. I think it's the iPod software. I'm also going to try a friends Apple wall adaptor. (I'll post on here after I check EVERYTHING...)
So far I've tried:
3 different PC's (11 different ports)
1 old iMac
Resetting to factory settings
Updated software
Put old software back on
Updated software
Updated iTunes software (to many times to count)
All of this because I updated to the new iTunes 7.
I have tried to check on getting it serviced also and end up going in circles... The support here is REALLY BAD. It all really comes down to them wanting you to pay more to fix their faulty stuff... crazy... but that's a whole other issue and post.
It's weird, I charge it forever... play it. It only shows a quarter full then when I go in and click through songs it goes to red... play the songs it goes back to green quarter full again... I think it's all mezzzed up.
I'm gonna try to re-update the software tonight in the iPod. Maybe that's it...?

  • Ipod 'charging' issues & ipod not recognised by itunes/laptop

    Hi
My ipod was working fine until last week when it appeared to have no battery. Now whenever it is being charged it is always in a 'charging' status despite the fact that it can have been charging for hours and should be fully charged. Also when I unplug it, the screen constantly displays the charging or charged symbols despite not being connected to any power - it does not seem to switch off completely anymore. Sometimes I will charge my ipod for hours and my ipod screen says it is charging but then as soon as I unplug it from the power my ipod suddenly has not battery. Also, my ipod is now not being recognised by my computer or itunes. I have installed itunes 10 so I am not sure if this is an ipod classic compatibility issue.
I hope that my post makes sense!! Has anybody else had any of the above problems??
    allie

First thing to try is a reset of your iPod.
Turn the Hold switch on then off again and then press-and-hold the Menu and Select (centre) buttons until the Apple logo appears. This can take about ten seconds for the logo to appear. The iPod will then reset (which can take a couple of minutes or so).
Has a reset corrected the problem? If not, perhaps the battery has reached the end of its useful life. How old is the iPod?
After a few years (there is no exact number) the battery will wear out and not accept charging any more. Whn it gets to this point, the option is to replace the battery using either Apple ioor a third party, or consider buying a new iPod.

  • IPod charging "problem" via iMac G5 compared to Mains.

When I charged my iPod Photo via the USB socket on the back of my iMac G5, I only got around 4 hours playback. When I charged the same iPod with the same cable, but using the plug adaptor for the wall electricity outlet, I got 12 hours roughly.
Is there anything I should be concerned about, especially with regard to the power coming from the iMac? Is this a power supply issue? My iMac is performing as normal, but this odd iPod behaviour is somewhat worrying.
    Thanks.

As discovered by other users of various Mac models, some few will charge while the machine is in Sleep mode. It seems most others actually
    b Drain
the iPod if it is left connected while the Mac is in Sleep mode.
It is a bit of irregular behavior, because some do, some don't and no consistency I have seen (and as reported in this thread by individual who found different results with changed power supply unit.).
From the iPod FAQ, it seems they suggest that sleep charging seems to be more likely to work with FireWire... <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60920>:
    b Question:
Can iPod charge while my computer is asleep?
b Answer: Yes, in some cases.
If you connect the iPod to your computer by FireWire, and your computer is sleeping and also connected to AC power, in most cases the iPod will charge. If the iPod does not charge when connected this way, either wake the computer or connect the iPod directly to an AC power adapter.
And that article is contradicted by this one <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60941>:
b Your computer goes to sleep
Your computer can only charge iPod when it's turned on and not asleep. Make sure your computer on and is not set to go to sleep when you want to charge iPod.
Tip: Some Macintosh computers can charge iPod mini even though they're asleep. If your sleeping computer doesn't charge iPod mini, don't worry, just wake it and let iPod mini charge.
This document <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971> has a good summary of the connection capabilities of the various iPods.
So it seems we each need to do an experiment to see if our configuration works : take low charge iPod, attach to Mac, let go into sleep mode, and see how much play time is available after long sleep attached, versus the Mac awake or powered adapter charge results.
(my latest configuration I have not tested: new iMac G5 RevB w iPod mini 6GB - I've been charging either via USB and computer on/awake, or by powered USB hub, or wall adapter charging - I have not tried sleep mode charging (or draining as case may be... ;^)

  • Ipod froze on "Charged" screen while playing in Bose speaker ipod charger

My ipod was playing in a Bose speaker ipod charger dealy. i wanted to see what band was playing and it was displaying the charger screen. i took it off and trying holding down the select and menu button to restart it and it didn't work. I tried plugging it into my computer and its still not doing anything and it has the charged screen still on.

We had a similar problem. iPod stopped while plugged into the Bose and then indicated that it needed to be charged, but when plugged into computer, was not recognized. A reset solved the problem. Are there issues with playing with the Bose system?

  • What is wrong with my iPod charging port?

My ipod charger refuses to work. It isn't my cable either. I know it is the port, i had to clean out the pocket lint with a metal stickpin. still nothing, can anyone help?

Hey Razvin, First NEVER use a metal object to clear a charging port! OK, that said, can you see in the port, does anything appear out of place, bent or missing? Or is there any corrosion visible? If not, that's good. How do you know the cable is not defective-- has a short. You can not always tell by looking at it, and the lighting cables have a history of failure. To rule out a defective cable have you tried a cable you know works or a new cable. The next thing to try is another charger, unless you know the one your using is working with other devices. Next try a reset, Press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds =/-, then release both buttons. If that does not work, try going into Settings>General>Reset then tap Reset All Settings. If still no joy, connect to your computer, make a backup of all your stuff on the iPod to your computer, then Restore from Backup, if still no joy Restore to New. If none of the above worked, then you most likely have a hardware issue, contact your Apple store or Apple Genius Bar and set up an appointment to have your iPod evaluated, be sure to bring your iPod, cable and charger. Good luck, Cheers.

    Hey Rina91!
Have you tried putting your iPod in Disk Mode, then connecting it to your computer again? For more info, read here -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
This may be a case of drive letter confusino in Windows. Follow these steps below to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
Have you seen all the suggestions in this article, as well? -> iPod appears in Windows, but not in iTunes
See if you have any sucees with those suggetions.

  • Charging with iPhone with iPod Charger ?

This may be a simple question, but I have not seen anything offical on this. Is it acceptable to use an ipod charger to charge the iphone?
I have been doing this successfully so I can charge at home (with my old ipod charge) and at the office (with the charger that came with the iphone), but I do not know if this will cause any issues.
Could not think of why not, but thought I would throw it out there.

Well I have old iPod 4 Gen charger and the output is 13v. my iPhone charger actually print "iPod charger" on it but the output is only 5V! So I'm worry if I use the old iPod charger for the iPhone it will smoke my new toy! will it? I haven't try.

  • My ipod charges, but doesn't sync to itunes

My iPod charges, but doesn't sync with iTunes.

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum - you are a Windows user.
iSync is a Mac-only application for syncing Contacts and Calendars to mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows, iPods or iTunes.

How do I use my new netbook for my ipod charger and storage?

I gave full info for how to do this setup in this thread with screen shots..

Any of it you don't follow just ask.
The TC is really a complex thing to use, when you don't do it as Apple designed it.. and in fact on your iMac an external drive will be cheaper, faster and more reliable than a TC. But I guess you already have it so may as well use it.

  • IPod charger is broken, it goes on and off every time it moves, what's wrong?

My iPod charger is broken. My IPod 5 is fine, but the lightning cable may seem to be bent or just broken, it could be the wires but I'm not so sure.
Every time it moves back and forth the charging goes on and off, I'm not so sure what is happening

You should try another USB cable or get it serviced by Apple if a new cable does not work either.

  • 5G iPod, Charges only when connectec to Mac

My subject pretty much describes it all. After months of working perfectly, all of a sudden I noticed my iPod wasn't charging with my car adapter.
I bought a new adapter, and still no luck. Won't even just power the iPod, it'll go from the charging screen, load, show my library, and then alert me that there's not enough power remaining. What's more, my sister's iPod charges just fine with either of my adapters. Her adapter, however, doesn't work with my iPod.
Fine, so it's definately something with my iPod--but why does it charge when it's connected to the computer? That's what's weird. I even took the USB connector out to my newly-purchased FM Modulator with a USB input for charging and listening-- just like the dock connector, it doesn't do a thing.
Anyone have any insight before I just try reformatting the stupid thing?

    Hello MacRez,
I hope that you have a backup for your iPod, iPod not being recongnized is a common error, I am not an expert but I believe that it happens more often with connecting with a PC rather than a Mac. If you are not going to connect with a PC in the future, it is better for you to restore the iPod updater in Mac version. At this stage I understand that your Ipod cnat be recongnized, however, you can try to put it in Disk Mode, and connect with your Mac, and hope that you wil be able to see your ipod's icon on your desktop. Then do a format (erase) with Disk Utility followed by a restore of the latest iPod updater.
