IPod charges, but doesn't show up as a drive, nor does it show up in iTunes or the Device Manager.

I was given in iPod Touch 8GB (used) for my birthday on the 8th, but I still haven't been able to get any use out of it it. When I plug it into the laptop it charges, but it isn't recognized as a drive, doesn't show up in the Device Manager, and is not recognized by iTunes. I've tried plugging it into a different computer, using a different cord, re-installing drivers, re-installing iTunes - everything! It's also stuck in recovery mode, and I can't do anything to get it out. I've tried restarting it, but it goes right back into recovery mode, telling me to connect it to iTunes. It's driving me batty! If anyone can tell me how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! c:

See if placing the iPod in DFU mode will allow a restore.

Problem with Dock Connector, Ipod Charges but doesn't play sounds

We have two Ipod Touch 3rd generation at home. We recently bought a stereo with a dock to play music from our iTouch.
One of the Ipods works just fine with it, but the other will only charge and not play music. When I try to see my output options I can only select Ipoud Touch or Apple TV. When I am playing music with the working Ipod I can choose between Dock Connector and Apple TV.
I have already tried hard reset but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions? I would REALLy appreciate your help.

- Do they both have the same iOS? The latest is 5.1?
- Look at the dock connectors for both units and compare them., Loof for bent, missing or corroded contacts and other abnormalities.
- Tey the following with the non-working one:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
-Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

I have an IPod Nono 2 Gen when connected to Itunes it shows up but when i try to open it it just disapperas from screen and I have to reconnect ipod to get it back. Also I cannot find my Ipod in the Device Manager on my PC, Can anyone help please

My IPOD Nono 2nd Gen showes up in ITunes but when I clike on it it just disapears and the only way to get IPOD Icon back is to disconnect it from PC then reconnect it when agin the icon apperas but when selected just disapears. Also I cannot Find the IPOD in the device Manager on PC not sure if this is cause of problem. The IPOD worked OK up to 4 weeks ago Can any one help please?

Try one or more of the following:
> Restart Your Computer
> Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
> Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
> Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer.

How do you have your iPod configured to sync with your iTunes library? Automatically or do you manually manage its contents by dragging what you would like from your library to the iPod.
If you have it set to automatically sync all checked songs and videos, make sure each track you wish to sync to your iPod is checked within your iTunes library.
Under the Summary tab for your iPod, is there any space taken of by the "Other" category (orange)?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

- Try another charging source

TS1538 My computer and itunes won't recognise my ipod. It's not coming up anywhere, not even in the device manager as a camera or whatever the troubleshooting said it might say. Plugging it in with the USB cable just charges the device.

Hey, first off, i'd like to say i'm not extremely technical - but i'll try and keep up. i'm having more or less the same problem as JasperMack, only, iTunes is recognizing it as my brother's iPod - Not mine. I've searched through the device manager and i got nothing that will recognize it there. My iPod DOES however charge, it almost takes on the roll of my brother's - only problem is when i got to sync it, it says "no device avalible" or whatever. I got this iPod 2nd-Hand (probably a bad idea) and i have no idea what to do. Even though the downloads are for the same iOS version number, they are different downloads and you can't use an iPod iOS update to update an iPhone or iPad etc. The iPad 1 and iPad 2 are also different downloads. So you will need to download different updates for your iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad 1 and the iPad 2.

Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1. The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.
