IPod Clas. 80GB - What kind of dock to connect to home stereo (Audio only)
Hi Everyone,
I've been reading all sorts of threads about problems people have been having with the iPod classic (80GB) and dock compatibility. Do you have any recommendations for docks that will actually work ($50-$100 range)? I'm not that technologically savvy. I'm looking for the following:
*Dock to connect the iPod Classic 80GB to a home stereo/receiver
*Audio only - _no video/TV views needed_
*Charges the iPod while connected to the dock (without falling asleep as I hear they often do)
*Remote control (not critical to have the remote but it would be nice to have one that performs minimal actions such as volume control, on/off, skip to next song, etc.

I assume that the other Sound Blaster cards like the Audigy models also have a 3.5mm jack for digital input. Has anyone tried feeding a coax SPDIF signal into it's And if so, how did you make the connection?
I am really stumped here. I bought the X-Fi specifically for use of its digital input capability. I would have gone with the next higher model which comes with the 5 /4" bay panel (and standard coax SPDIF jacks) but my PC does not have a 5.25" bay available.

No, you can't. You need internet atleast once to activate the software.
4 -- Can I easily transfer projects from CS 6 laptop to CS 5.5 on desktop?
It depends on file format. File format like JPEG, PSD, TIFF etc are universal and shall work perfectly fine between CS6 and CS5.5 however format like INDD will be a concern as InDesign file saved in newer version could not be opened in older version directly.
5 -- Alternatively, can I simply install my existing CS 5.5 in a new laptop?

2 x ipods 1 will play music on docking staitons x 3 the other will only charge
I have 2 ipods in this house and 3 docking stations. The first ipod is the 4th generation 8gb and the second is a 16gb 4th generation.
The 8gb ipod will charge and play music on all 3 docking stations, however, the 16gb will only charge on all of them. I am tearing my hair out trying to figure out whether it is the ipod or not. i have matched the settings on both ipods so they are the same and still no music on the docking station.
I would be really greatful if anyone can shed some light on this for me, coz im dammed if i know!!!!!!!Do both had the same iOS version?
Try:
- Inspect the dock connector for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

IPdo Universal Dock /// Not made for home stereo use
Wow, after talking to “Dawn” at Apple technical support I was advised against using the iPod Universal Dock to connect to my home stereo. Apparently it was made for convenience rather than sonics. Funny but the older model (without the remote and s-video jacks) sounds great when connected to the stereo verses using the iPod’s headphone jack.
Looks like I’ll be returning the Dock and Remote….

At the advice of a friend I recently purchased the iPod Universal Dock (w remote)to connect to my stereo. This was based on his claim (which I verified) that the dock sounded substantially better than the headphone out jack (using the Monster Cable interconnect). Unfortunately the new Universal dock (w/ s-video & remote capabilities) sounds worse than the iPod’s headphone jack. We did a lot of comparisons using the older generation doc and have identified that it’s my new dock that sounds like garbage.
Is my Dock faultily or was the old one sonically better? Either way I would like to return my doc for either an exchange (if you believe my dock to be faulty) or a refund.

Windows XPI recently purchased a universal 5 in 1 docking station that is suppose to charge my nano and also play through my stereo also but when I hooked it up to my stereo I can't get it to play. Wondering what I could be doing wrong, does the stereo have to be on a certain station? Any suggestions I might could try. 20G iPOD freezes when connecting to home stereo and other components
When i connect my iPOD to my home stereo through a docking station the iPOD buttons become disfunctional. it only plays one song and then it "shuts down". Not really shuts down because the iPOD is still on and as soon as i remove it from the docking station, it works fine again. Any ideas?

Using iPod Classic (80GB) with a Firewire dock
I gave my daughter a new 80GB iPod Classic to replace her 2003 era iPod 15GB, dock connector (with the 4 buttons). Her 12" PowerBook G4 doesn't have USB2, so I was wondering if it is safe to use her old Firewire docking station with the new iPod Classic? I would assume so for two reasons: 1) the dock connector is mechanically the same and 2) I have read that the iPod Classic will still charge from the Firewire power pins. Is this correct? I'd rather she not blow it up right out of the box.
You will be able to use it to charge and output audio through the dock's out port, but that's it. It will not connect to the mac via firewire at all.
An iPod classic can be connected to USB 1.1 but it may or may not sync at all and if it does, it will be painfully, hopelessly slow. You may want to consider syncing the iPod with a different mac... you can use a Firewire hard drive or Target Disk Mode to transfer or copy her library to another machine.
On the upshot, a new aluminum Macbook is expected to hit the market in time for Christmas... -
IPod Classic - 80GB - What does Recovery Mode mean?
Every time I connect my new iPod Classic to my computer I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I've restored the iPod several times and no luck. I welcome advice. Thank you.

What Kind Of Connectors for Audio Out?
My Mac Pro is a 2-2.8g Quad, and it's kind of in a position right now where I can't clearly see, so can anyone tell me what kind of connector I need to grab the audio out (NOT DIGITAL) and connect it to another device?

Stereo jacks have a tip and two rings.
Mono jacks the same size and shape have one tip contact and only one ring contact. -
My IPOD 4th generation has stopped playing videos. It will play the audio only and displays message "TV CONNECTED" "THIS VIDEO IS PLAYING ON THE TV". Don't know how to re-adjust video setting to what it was prior to this happening.
Do you have an Apple TV? An iPod can AirPlay to an Apple TV.
Can you provide a screen shot of what yo are seeing? Also what specific app is it?

I believe that your previous iPod touch has a 30-pin connector. If this is the case and you now have a iPod touch 5th generation, then the adapter below may work.

What kind of cable connects video iPod to tv?
I can't find specific info on this other than the AV Monster cables on the apple site. I don't have the cable to connect my iPod to a tv yet and am wondering where to find it and what kind to get? I assume it plugs into the headphone jack output, but does it split to red & white stereo and a video RCA jack?

The apple a/v cable from iPod to TV works great. Just like plugging a VCR or DVD player in.
For somewhat better video you would use the universal dock and plug the Apple a/v cable into the dock and you have the option of using it or an S-video cable from dock to TV in which case you would NOT plug the yellow video RCA connector into your TV as only one video source can be used at a time.
The S-video cable "should" give somewhat better video but of course it depends on the source video too. Only experimenting will tell for sure which combination is better than another.
In summary, the Apple a/v cable direct from iPod to TV is all you need. Other cables may work but I elected to use the real thing so that there would be no excuses in case it didn't work. I'm extremely happy with the setup. Bought a TV episode from iTunes the other day and showed it on 50" TV using just the a/v cable and the results were excellent. Not HD, but excellent. -
Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote
I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!
I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.
