IPod Class froze/went to sleep while attached in my car

My iPod Classic is hooked up to the USB port in my Honda CR-V.  Earlier today, right in the middle of a song, it stopped playing.  The screen went very dim (although the Honda symbol can be discerned).  It won't respond to anything and remains stuck in the middle of the song.  Any ideas?

  • Laptop to sleep while charging ipod?

So, is it possible for the ipod to charge while the Macbook pro is sleeping? I tried this once, but then my whole computer froze when I woke it up.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

No, it will not charge while your laptop is sleeping, and may actually deplete the battery on the iPod. Either turn off sleep mode or buy a wall charger. This is a limitation of the USB spec.

Reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.

I have a WD Passport HD attached to my Mac. When it was last connected it went into sleep mode and ran out of battery. Now I cannot find my HD in Finder and Disk Utilities is telling me it cannot repair the HD. I can see the HD but the volume part is greyed out. Any ideas on how to recover my data?

There are other methodologies of scanning a HD
which involve data extraction, but loss of metadata is often the result if the directory is corrupt.
Metadata is the info on what the data IS.
Like having all your papers thrown in the air, its all there, but just a giant mess.
This is why you always always must have several external HD redundancies of your data.  One isnt enough, neither is two really.

  • IPod screen goes to sleep while playing

    Hello,
I have what I believe is either the 6th or 7th generation iPod 120gig. I just picked it up used and it is in good condition.
The problem I have is, while I have it playing on my Bose system, the songs play, but I can't see what song is actually playing like my 1st generation iPod does. This one, the screen goes to sleep while the songs play. is there a fix for this possibly? I have many songs and it's always nice to just look over and see what is playing.
    Thank you,
    JG

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback to save battery power when the screen dims. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.
If none of the above works, you need to take it to the Apple store or wherever you purchased it. I think they are still under warranty.

  • Comp. went to "sleep", wouldn't wake up while in use (?!?)

Hey all, so yes I have one of the trouble-prone MDD G4's which has had TOO many problems to really go into all of them here (from the inadequate fan it came with that requires me to keep it in Nap mode all the time, to other freezes/Kernel panics that I assume may be related to the probably bad pirated OS I unknowingly installed in it). Although I suppose if I really wanted to spend the time and money on it, I could get it a bit more functional (and tolerable), but at this moment I've practically given up on it, and am just using it until I break down and buy a decent Mac laptop,
Still, I can't help but wonder when I notice a new problem, to see if I'm not the only one. And one I've noticed sporadically, and JUST dealt with, is this:
the computer seemingly "went to sleep" suddenly on its OWN, AS I was using it (just looking at a web page), and would NOT wake up, no matter how many times I clicked the mouse, tapped the buttons on the keyboard, or unplugged/replugged both (ALL of which, obviously, are things which would normally wake a computer up).
I generally just tend to keep the computer asleep when I'm NOT using it, wake it up when I need to, and turn it off/reset it whenever it crashes. And in THIS case, although I could still hear that it was running at full capacity--based on the nose the internal fan was making--I ultimately had to hold the power button down and turn it off after it wouldn't wake, and have turned it back on now.
Anyway, I've posted the problem report log below, if it tells you anything. Are there any settings I may unknowingly have it on in System Prefs, Energy Saver, Desktop & Screen Saver that I might not be aware of that causes it--or ANY computer--to do this??
Because as it is, and based on previous problems LIKE this, I have it set to "Never" go to sleep when it's inactive, "Never" put the display to sleep, putting the Hard Disk to Sleep is NOT checked, "Wake For Ethernet Network Admin Access" IS checked, as is "Allow Power Button to Sleep the Computer" (both under Energy Saver/Options).
    Please help! Thank you.

Hmm. Sheesh, there are a LOT of variables that can go wrong with these MDD G4s!! (or at least mine). Insufficient fan, bad OS, bad drive.... oh well.
Well, the installed drive is one my family member (brother) chose pre-installed when he got the computer, a 111.79 GB model ST3120026A (not sure of the model) that I have separated into two 55.77 GB partitions. SINCE I am planning to switch over to a laptop anyway, part of me is thinking I MAY just take this opportunity to back this up onto a decent external teradrive, and transfer all of my personal files over that way. Still: if I DO still opt to get an inexpensive internal drive to keep this computer going, based on your own experience, what technical specifications do you advise me to look for??
And what is the best brick & mortar/online store you'd recommend for me to get a decent internal/external teradrive?? (I have a Fryes not far away, but I don't know if they're necessarily the best place to look...)

  • My ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. I do?

please help me my ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. what I do?

    Hey saintbless,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting information for iPod nano. While it mostly refers to the 6th generation, most steps apply for your model as well:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3474
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
    - Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
    - If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
    - If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    - If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My iPod touch screen went fuzzy with pink and white stripes

Hello! I really appreciate if anyone would tell me what's wrong with my iPod touch.
I have been using my iPod touch for less than a year, and honestly, I have quite a bad habit: I always use it for playing games. And sometimes, I even use it while it is charging. Usually it's fine, nothing went wrong, so I keep doing the same thing sometimes.
one day, I'm visiting my relative and tried to charge my iPod. Since my iPod doesn't have an adaptor, I usually charge it using my laptop (the seller told me to charge it in a laptop/computer). One day, I borrowed my cousin's laptop to charge my iPod, but she only gave me an adaptor (not made for iPod or any apple products, but it fits so I thought it's okay). But the next day, I found out that my iPod went off by itself and I know that my battery isn't low.
I Tried to charge it using my laptop at home, but it still went off! Also, it went normal in my laptop (the iTunes appeared automatically, as a sign that my iPod is charging). So, I tried to restore it and I worked (at least I thought so), until I saw my screen went fuzzy (pink and white stripes). So, almost everyday I turn off my iPod, turn it on again, wait for a while, then use it normally. Usually it lasts 'normal' for hours, but it will still be error as usual.
    So, my question is:
What makes my iPod touch screen went fuzzy?
Is it because I used it while charging?
Is it because I charged it with an adaptor that is not made for Apple products?
please help me, I don't know what else to do! I have restored it, I didn't download many applications like I used to before, and I left it alone when I was charging (I didn't play it while it's charging any more), and I even didn't turn on the Wi-Fi if I'm not using it (I almost NEVER turn off the Wi-Fi before my iPod touch went error)
    Thank you for answering..

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.

  • It Went To Sleep And Never Woke Up

For Christmas, my parents bought me a 4GB Silver iPod Nano. I've used it quite a bit since then, I believe right now it's holding 85 songs. Anyways, last night before sleeping, I was listening to it. I was done with it, I set it to sleep, put it into the charger, and went to sleep.
I wake up this morning, the power has blinked on and off a few times. I pick up my iPod, try to turn in on and...nothing happens. My first thought is that the battery is dead, so I re connect it and wait for my computer to detect it...it doesn't. I open up iTunes to see if it shows my iPod (named Donnie's iPod) as a device, it doesn't.
So basically right now I have a rectangular silver device that is supposed to play music that is just sitting here taking up space. Now, if it is important, my computer specs:
    Dell Dimension 4600
    Intel Pentium 4 Processor
    Roughly 4 Years Hold
Relatively New Hard Drive, Replaced in July of 2006
    Windows XP Home Edition
The only ports I have availible for use are two which are in the front and I have tried them both, neither appear to do anything.
So is there anything I can do besides replacing it?

    Try these.
    My iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
    My iPod won't wake up.
iPod touch-wheel is unresponsive after waking from sleep.
When restoring the iPod, it's recommended to put it into disk mode first.

If none of the above help, it may need service, or you could go to an Apple store and have them check it out.

  • External disk no longer works after notebook went to sleep

I have a one week old hard drive I'm using for Time Machine. It's a Seagate 5400 RPM 250GB notebook drive. It's connected via Firewire. The drive was working just fine until the notebook went to sleep -- when I woke it back up, there was an error on the screen saying "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory." I tried power cycling the drive and the notebook but now all I get is "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" and the only options it presents are Initialize, Ignore, and Eject. Obviously, Initialize is right out, as it contains my backups.
In "Disk Utility", when I choose "repair", I see:
    Verify and Repair volume “disk1s3”
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid B-tree node size
    Volume check failed.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
I see the same thing when I choose "verify" (perhaps unsurprisingly). If it's unable to check the journal, is all hope lost? Is this something I should expect to happen periodically when the computer falls asleep?

I was thinking about it: actually, it may not have gone to sleep. The screen went blank, but the drive had power the whole time. (It has a blue LED that was on throughout).
Updated the Subject, although I don't know if that'll carry up to the index.
