Ipod classic 120gb stuck in disk mode
i have a ipod classic 120gb and im having issues with it. i am unable to get it out of disk mode, my computer and itunes will not recognize it. ive tried all the steps ive seen in the forums still no luck. ive tried other usb port and other computers with no luck. it is almost 4 yrs old so warranty and other options are expired. does anyone have any suggestions?
That's super odd. It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

Ipod classic 120 stuck in disk mode, not recognized by windows or itunes
so ive been havin tons of problems with my new ipod 120 classic
first one day when i plugged it in it told me it was corrupted and needed to be restored
then it would not restore
i formated it with windows but that didnt seem to do anything
the other night somehow i got it to the point of naming my ipod but after that, it stopped working again
for a while i couldnt even put it into disk mode
now, when it is plugged into the computer it is stuck in disk mode, yet not recognized by the computer or itunes
it makes the sound when i plug it in but never shows up
also, when its not plugged in, it starts up and just brings me to a screen that says use itunes to restore. but then i plug it in and it goes right to disk mode and do not connect, and isnt recognized
when i unplug it i can see it pop up on my computer for that one second i unplug it
ive tried this on a number of computers and it does the same thing
when i unplug it from being plugged into the computer it just sits in diskmode saying ok to connect
if i reset it by pressing center and menu, it just goes back to the use itunes to restore screen
i cant get it to enter diagnostic mode, and when i hit center and play after center and menu it does nothing either
ive just about had it with ipods
this is my 3rd or 4th classic that i have had problems with
apple should be ashamed of themselves for such a buggy product for so much money, and very very crappy service
any help greatly appreciated....but im prety sure ill be moving onto another product after this
luckily i am still under warranty so they offered for me to send it in....but then i am without music for about a week
i feel i should be compensated for that alone, aside from just fixing it for me
please help me fix this so i can get back to some tunes!
thanks for any info1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
2. Connect USB cable to computer
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad -
So, I tried to restore my iPod to the factory settings via iTunes. It has been a few days now and its still stuck in disk mode telling me "Do Not Disconnect" and it only charges on my laptop. I tried hooking it up to a wall mount to charge and than it told me that I need to use iTunes to restore it. Here's the thing, it won't leave disk mode and its not registering on my iTunes. What can I do to get it back to normal,
Oh yeah, all of the latest updates for my software and iTunes are current.Mee too!
That's my SMART DATA results:
Retracts: 134

HT1320 iPod nano is stuck in Disk Mode. How do I reset it?
iPod nano is stuck in Disk Mode and menu wheel is unresponsive. How do I reset without losing data on iPod?
Hello jarhead232.
To try and resolve this issue, please unplug the power from the unit for about 25-30 minutes. Once this time frame has passed, plug the unit in directly to a wall outlet to see if the printer will power on.
If the issue persists, please contact our support group using the "Contact Us" link below.

My ipod classic is stuck in diagnostic mode and will not reset. Please help.
I turned on my iPod classic & it started in Diagnostic mode. I worked my way through the various tests and press this/press that instructions and now it is stuck.
I can't turn it off or reset it.
I am unable to connect it to my PC at the moment and need help so that I can use it.
I miss my music. How did you try and reset the iPod? By pressing and holding both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons togehter long enough for the Apple logo to appear?
What happens if you connect it to iTunes?
If nothing else, let the battery fully drain and then charge it up.

IPod classic won't go Disk Mode
My iPod classic has a red cross and won't go to Disk Mode. Does this means my iPod died and I need to buy a new one?
Charge it up fully. Toggle the hold switch. Try getting into diagnostics mode again. See Corrupt iPod classic.

Apple is very disappointing, they have no problem charging high prices but they dont give the support needed to the customers. the ipod is buggy and it had problems since i got it(yesterday)You can ring them up but be aware that if you haven't got AppleCare and you've had your iPod for more than 90 days you'll be charged for technical support. You only receive one complimentary support incident, which must be used within the first 90 days of product ownership: Contact Apple Support

Ipod 5th gen stuck in disk mode
i need help. i've tried the different suggestions in discussions to no avail. when i plug my ipod up, it says it needs to be restored . i click restore, it runs the process and says it'll start back up and never does. i unplug it and it says run itunes to restore. please help
Okay ... rather than doing a full format, let's instead see if we can do a disk check, and see if that gets the ipod to the point where a restore will "take" properly on the iPod.
There's vista instructions in the following document. Check both "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors":
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
After the check disk, can you successfully restore the iPod? -
TS1441 Ipod classic stuck in disk mode
My ipod classic is stuck in disk mode, computer/itunes won't recognize, i've tried resetting, but either says "ok to disconnect" or "restore with itunes." When i plug it in, the computer nor itunes recognize that it's plugged in.... please help.
The best way to get out of this situation is to use a well-known tool called TinyUmbrella.
First of all download TinyUmbrella http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.in/
Now, making sure your device is connected to your computer, launch TinyUmbrella
It will automatically detect that your iPod is stuck in recovery mode
Select the Exit Recovery button and it should throw your iPod touch out of recovery.
Alternatively, you can right-click on your iPod name from a list at the side
of TinyUmbrella and select Kick out of recovery.
