Ipod classic 120GB sync problems

Whenever I try to sync my new iPod Classic 120GB with iTunes 8.1, it shows that it is transferring all the tracks, but when it is done, only a handful are transferred to the iPod. No error messages pop up, but when I sync it with an older version of iTunes, it seems to work just fine. The firmware on the iPod is already up-to-date and I've even done a restore, what can possibly be wrong which is causing the sync problems with iTune 8.1?

I have got the same problem, everything up-to-date. iTunes has about 80 gB of music, but synchronisation results in only 30 gB of music on my iPod. Apple's helpdesk first advised to reset the iPod: that meant another 24 hours of downloading, but the final result was even worse than the first time. Then they tried to convince me that my iTunes tracks perhaps were corrupt. But manually I can download every album. Finally they recommended to use manual synchronisation, that in fact means that the automatic sync option is no longer available! I cannot understand that Apple support is not aware of the problem and cannot properly fix it. Also after first contact by telephone there seems to be no possibility to complain by e-mail about the recommended "solution."

  • Unusual? iPod Classic connection/sync problem

I have an 80Gb iPod Classic, and iTunes 8.1 running on Windows XP.
With iTunes open, I connect the iPod.
    The iPod screen says connecting...synchronising...
Then the iPod appears in the iTunes device list, and the iPod says ejecting...ok to disconnect.
I am left with iTunes open, and thinking it is connected to the iPod, and an iPod which is disconnected from it's iTunes Library.
If I try the sync button on iTunes it say synchronising for a little while, but doesn't update any files.
The upshot is that I can no longer add or remove anything from the iPod. Although all the original data is still there, and the iPod plays fine.
I have tried rebooting the PC, restarting the iPod, re-installing iTunes, and restoring the iPod factory settings, but I still have the same problem.
    Please help!

if you get a solution to this problem, I have identical troubles on my hp running vista and outlook 07 on both my classic 80 gig and nano 16gig

  • Ipod classic 160 sync problem

So a couple of days ago my iPod classic was operating erratically and I read a few posts and decided to do a restore. After a long time trying I managed to get it to do a full reformat. I haven't been able to get it to sync since. I have tried what seems every  suggestion on here. I can see it in device manager no problem, it says that its connected on the iPod itself, It does show up in iTunes if I remove and plug it back in but only for a split second (it looks like a small window appears below the icon) and then it disappears again. If I perform a DFU restore it goes through restoring the device through iTunes again (so it is possible it can be recognized) but when it gets to the point where it tells me it will sync upon reboot - the icon for the iPod flashes up in iTunes, and then disappears again as above. I have also tried to do the HDsmart data and this works, details as below:
    Retracts:18
    Reallocs:0
    Pending sectors:0
    Poweron hours : 167
    Start/stops: 69680
    Temp current : 31°C
    Temp min: 53°C
    temp max: 248°C
I know the max is high but I think its a bum reading. It was operating mostly fine before apart from having to reboot using the Menu/select button every week or so...
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • IPod Classic Calendar Sync Problem

I have an 80 gig iPod classic, and it works perfectly fine except for the calendar sync function. I really want to get my Outlook calendar on my iPod, and for some reason whenever I sync it, it says it is syncing my calendars and takes a long time. Then I check my calendar on my iPod and the calendar is empty. I've made sure that the box is checked for it to sync calendars from Outlook, and I've even cleared Outlook plug-ins, leaving only iTunes and my security plug-in. I have also tried syncing it after doing these things multiple times and the same thing happens.
How can I get my Outlook calendar onto my iPod classic?

doesn't work for me with classic 120, vista and outlook 2007.
Looks like it needs a fix and will have to wait for apple to sort it.

  • ICal to iPod Classic 80gig sync problem

    Hi,
just bought myself an iPod and wanted to sync my iCal (wich I just created for the first time) with my iPod. The problem is, that when I go to iTunes and check the box that says "Sync iCal calendars" it gives a message that says there aren't any calendars available, because I don't have any in my iCal. That's weird, cause I do have one...
I work on Leopard, have iTunes 7.5, the newest iPod software and iCal 3.0
Anybody know how to sync my Apple and my iPod?

well, I fixed it by removing EVERYTHING on my mac that had anything to do with iCal, so I made a backup of my new calendar, then deleted every old entry I ever had made (turned out I had made one like a year ago).
I don't know if this next step was necessary, but I removed and re-installed iCal. Next thing I did was import my Calender backup and I could sync the calendars with my iPod just fine now.
Hope if someone has this problem, it will help!

  • Ipod classic 80gig sync problem

when i download podcast into i tunes i set the release date to oldest to newest. When i sync the i pod and transfer podcasts to i pod they remain in same order. But after i eject the i pod and open into podcasts they are always the opposite way around ie newest to the top and oldest to the bottom.
    Help please

i have the oposite of your problem. My iPOD shows the newest on the top and oldest on bottom. So in example if this was a book I would be reading the last chapter first, go figure. I tried everything I know how but remains like that. I learned to like it that way.if the newest podcast is interesting then I follow the story with the previous one. oh, by the way on the itunes shows in the correct order. I guess is a software thing.

  • IPod classic 120GB: video problem

I am having problems putting movies on my iPod. I've converted the files from .avi to .mpg. However when I sync them to my iPod it says "'Movie Name' was not copied to the iPod 'Name' because it cannot be played on this iPod."
I only recently have had this problem. I have put one file on before, but now it doesn't work. Any answers would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

Update to this, I used the iTunes convertor and it converted it to .m4v I believe and it worked fine, but it's lame because instead of compressing it, it's now like 3 times the size :/

  • ITunes 8.0 problems while syncing photos with iPod Classic 120GB

Hello, last week I bought the new iPod Classic 120GB, I updated iTunes to 8.0. But when I was syncing, everything sync (movies, music, cover arts, etc) except the photos. It appears this message "the iPod "Name's iPod" canot be synced. the required file cannot be found." Those anyone knows how to solve this issue?
When I don't selected to import photo albums, it syncs perfectly.
    Thanx for your help

Oh, I have switched USB ports & cables just to make sure.  I am re-syncing now, but am afraid it will turn out the same and continue to have the same issues.

  • IPod Classic 120Gb restarts after syncing?

    Hi,
When I sync and then eject my iPod classic 120Gb, immediately after rejecting (after the progress bar has gone all the way to the right) the iPod reboots...
This seems harmless, I'm having no other problems, I'm sure this isn't supposed to happen, right?
    Any ideas, anyone?
    TIA
    Kevin Pitkin

I forgot to add that usually after I get some songs to sync then I try syncing again, it will end up erasing everything off the iPod and I have to start over.

  • IPod Classic 120GB cannot sync, "Required disk not found"

Somebody, please help! iPod Classic 120GB charcoal, current OS as of about a week ago (won't stay synced long enough for me to see what it is), iMac 24" 10.6.4, iTunes 10.0.1. Let me know if you need any more info and I'll try to provide it.
Everything was absolutely fine until I updated to the newest version of iTunes. Now, when I plug in my iPod, it says it's connecting then jumps straight to the "Okay to disconnect" screen. It never shows up in iTunes at all. After doing this repeatedly, I unplugged it then immediately plugged it in again before it had finished the progress bar on the "Okay to disconnect" screen, and it finally showed up in iTunes, but it gave me an error of "iPod was not properly disconnected" then "cannot sync - required disk not found" and disconnected itself again.
I tried resetting it (menu+center buttons) while it was plugged in, and this did nothing. iTunes still didn't recognize it at all.
About a week ago, I followed some instructions somewhere and toggled the "enable disk use" option (I usually keep it unchecked) then was able to restore it. The songs were added back in a bizarre order (not alphabetical, not chronological, songs within an album added out of order, jumping from artist to artist, etc.) and I had to sync it again for three random albums that it missed the first time, but once everything was in again it was fine. I haven't added any new songs or playlists to my iTunes library since then (just changed a few ratings and I like to keep track of play counts), but when I tried to sync it again this morning, I got exactly the same errors.
The only difference this time is that it alerted me that one song in my library (a song I happen to like very much) could not be synced. The song still shows up on my iPod, but will not play. It still appears and plays in iTunes on the computer.
The iPod works perfectly in day-to-day use and is a little over a year old. I take very good care of it (my previous iPod is four or five years old and still works fine) and it has never had any problems before this. It has almost 100GB worth of music (no other media, just music), which makes it pretty annoying to have to restore it more than absolutely necessary. What is going on here and is there some way to fix it that will last longer than a week?

Hi, yeah I'm experiencing the same issue as everyone else with a 120gb iPod classic using iTunes 10.1.1 (4). Started about the time of OSX 10.6.5 update and hasn't been resolved with the OSX 10.6.6 update.
iPod attempts to Sync but now quits without even appearing on the computer let alone iTunes.
I have ESET security but quitting the app doesn't help.
I also have an iPhone 3Gs and that's still syncing fine (thank heavens), via a different library.
I've since managed to wipe the iPod clean (back to factory settings) as forced to do so by following the instructions in another post to remove the iPod Photo Cache. I then moved my iTunes folder to another directory for safe keeping.
I set up a clean iTunes database thinking my old one might have been corrupted. To do this you open iTunes from scratch while holding down the option key and select "Create Library". iTunes then remembers the last library created whenever you open the app.
When I am able to see the iPod summary screen (a rare occurrence now) I see that "enable disk use" is checked ok - this has been noted as a problem in previous forums. So that's not the issue.
Actually the iPod doesn't even stay connected to my 2010 unibody MacBook Pro when the iPod is switched over to disc mode. It immediately goes into "OK to Disconnect".
So I now have a clean iPod, and clean iTunes - all empty and essentially useless!
Anybody out there with any ideas? Plllleeeeeeeese?

  • Video Playback Problems (iPod Classic 120GB)

Hi! I recently purchased my new iPod Classic 120GB but I'm encountering problems regarding video playback.
I downloaded a *music video* from the internet, and the file format is *mpeg video*. I then purchased an iPod Video Converter and thus changed the file to the appropriate one in order to play it in my iPod.
I played the music video first in my iTunes to check whether the video has any problems, but there was none, and it wasn't corrupted. As for my other videos, I have used the same iPod video converter and they were all fine. I then transferred the music video in my iPod.
Problem is, the quality was good and everything, but there are some *slight glitches in the music video*. There wasn't anything wrong with the audio, but with *some of the scenes* in the video itself. I then replayed it, then the *glitch transferred to another scene in the video*.
I then removed the said music video from my iPod, re-converted it, replayed it in my iTunes, then transferred it to my iPod, but the same video still has the same glitch.
So far, I have transferred 10+ music videos in my iPod and they all worked just fine, but I have 6 other music videos that are encountering the same problem with playback.
Does the problem lie with my iPod converter, or in my iTunes, or in my iPod itself? I would like to know.
I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks!
    For additional information:
    iTunes - latest version 8.1
iPod - recently bought, Classic 120 GB
video converter - Allok Video to iPod converter
video itself - mpeg format, 204 MB

unfortunately its hard to tell where the problem lies... it depeneds on what type of glitch you are talking about. i really hope you didnt actually pay for a video converter... try "ipod video 9" which is absolutely free... top quality and VERY VERY easy to use!!! this program has never caused issues for me. if the issue is with your ipod it may be a delay in information transfer from your ipods hardrive. try defragmenting your ipod like you would your computer in the "my computer" window on windows, this does actually help your ipod read the information on its hardrive faster and should slightly--->drastically improve your ipods performance depending on factors such as how fragmented (jumbled) your files are, how many files you have on the ipod, the size of each file etc.
these are the only things i can think of!!! try both... see how you get on.

  • HT1386 I sync all songs, photos and videos between my computer and iPod classic with no problems, but when I get to sync info I get this message: "iTunes cannot sync Calendar and contacts to iPod. Try logging out of Windows adn then logging back in".

I sync all songs, photos and videos between my computer and iPod classic with no problems, but when I get to sync info I get this message: "iTunes cannot sync Calendar and contacts to iPod. Try logging out of Windows adn then logging back in".  Could you please help?

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • IPod Classic 120GB random crashes

    Hi,
I have a iPod Classic 120GB that for the past year has been randomly crashing in the middle of playing songs. For a long time it was once in a while but then it became daily and now I can't even listen to a complete song.
I've done several RESTORES and for the first 24hrs it seemed to fix the problem, but now it seems to be deteriorating. Any suggestions? Would it matter if the host sync computer is a PC or a Mac? Possible problem in the code of iTunes that when syncing would cause a problem? Could this be a sign that the HD is seriously deffective?
Any insight or tricks to fix the problem is appreciated.
    much thanks

My new 120gb classic survived a 7 hour bus ride on Saturday without crashing once, however I was watching videos for most of the trip.
Over the weekend away I was using my small sound dock and again, no crashes what so ever.
After picking up my car from the workshop (the reason for the trip away) I plugged the classic into my Alpine IDA-X100 stereo (first time using the USB cable on the X100, as opposed to the older style connector) and no crashes at all during a 6 hour drive home.
And yet - after an hour of using the classic in the office with just headphones I've just had a crash.
This confuses me further - if it was firmware I'd have thought I'd have had crashes when using the sound dock, or car as well.
Have any of you who are also having crashes/skips seen this behaviour?

  • IPod Classic 120GB

I have a iPod classic 120GB and itunes isn't syncing all of my music. I have over 5,000 songs. But, once it syncs about 500 of the songs itunes freezes and stops syncing and gives me an error. I have tried changing the music files from MP3 to AAC that didn't work, I've also tried dragging and dropping the songs in sections and once it gets to 600 songs it give me another error. I've pretty much tried it all and now I have no idea what to do. Someone please help!

It is likely that the iPod's hard drive is faulty, and there is a problem with the iPod's storage media at about the point where 500 to 600 songs would be loaded.  That is why it errors out consistently at about the same point in the data transfer, no matter how you load the songs.
You said you tried converting your song files from MP3 to AAC, so that would rule out a problem with the files being transferred.
It may be a problem with the connection between iPod and computer, but then, I think the problem would occur at a random point, not consistently when you get to about 500 to 600 songs.
You can set the iPod to Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
With iTunes NOT running, connect the iPod.  If you have any Windows utilities that can examine a hard drive, you can try them on the iPod's hard drive.
You may want to try reformatting the iPod's hard drive using Windows (instead of doing a Restore in iTunes).  The format type used on the iPod's hard drive is FAT32 (when the iPod is used with a Windows PC).  If there is an option to do a "quick format," do NOT select that option.  Do a "full" format (it may fail at that same point).
If that completes successfully, try running iTunes.  It will probably prompt you to do a Restore, which you will need to do because the iPod does not have any of its software loaded.  Then, see if your problem still recurs.
