Ipod classic 160 , iMac tiger 10.4.11 , itunes 9.2 not syncing & freezes up

Same problem as itunes 9.1..... this is so wrong , apple should have figured all of this out before releasing products... imac , itunes & ipod are all with newest software as of OCT 30th and it still freezes up then gives me the spinning ball of doom and 15-25 minutes later it tells me it cant sync...
I took back two other ipods thinking it was them...then bought a third and held on to it until this new release of software today , I was excited for about 5 minutes until all this started again : (((

I have EXACTLY the same problem as you! I had my classic in bits the other day tryin to suss out whats wrong, but ever since this happend more and more people are coming up with similar issues. I plug my classic in, it recognises it and begins to sync. Then around 100 songs in itunes will freeze and my ipod goes from syncing to just connected and makes weird noiese. I've tried everything so im not sure what to do next. As long as i know its not just me :P

  • Ipod classic 160 , iMac tiger 10.4.11 , itunes 9.1 not syncing & freezes up

Im ready to yank my freakin hair out. I have called and talked with itunes support and got nowhere. I have downloaded , upgraded , restored and even returned 2 ipod classics to see if they were the problem.
When I sync it gets to about 1-3 gb and freezes everything (ipod , itunes , computer) I have put up with everyone acting like its something Im doing. It always ends up saying ( cant read or write to the ipod ) This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!! I have 15,500 songs and cant use them mobile at all, this *** after my girlfriend spending $280.
What is going on?????? , and is there going to be an itunes up date for this sooner than later or should I return it before its to late? A Best Buy saleman said something about many complaints about this and that I should be able to expect an update soon... so I have a new 160 sitting in a box Im afraid to open.

I'm not sure that if this is exactly the same problem you're having but it sounds similiar...
I have just purchased a new ipod classic 160, and have attempted to sync it with my itunes 9.1 library. It managed to sync about 3 Gb and then an error message came up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I then tried manually transferring the music and was successful with some of the music, but with other tracks the same error message came up. I performed a restore on the iPod, as I initially formatted it on a PC, not my Mac, and thought this might be the problem. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. As far as I can see there is no pattern to the tracks that it won't load on (well not to my eyes anyway). I would be grateful for any suggestions as I'm off traveling in a few days time without my laptop and can't imagine myself without my music collection!

  • Ipod classic says it has been restored by itunes but will not get out of recovery mode

Hello, about a week ago my ipod classic 120gb shut off unexpectedly and gave me the big red X, telling me to restore. I connected it to itunes (on a mac) and attempted to restore, but it kept on giving me error message 1439. I kind of gave up, but then randomely today when i tried to restore it, it gave me the affirmative that the ipod was restored to factory settings and would restart. however, when it restarted, it was still in disk mode, and the message on my computer was that it has detected an ipod in recovery mode that needs to be restored! i then restored it again, and again it gave me the message that it was successfully restored, however when I restored it again it told me that it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored again. anyone know how i can get it out of disk mode so that when it finally restores on itunes it can restart in normal mode?

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • My ipod classic (160 gb) wont connect to my itunes.

ive downloaded the latest update of itunes, and when i plug my ipod in it says on the ipod it is connected but does not show up in my itunes library. I had to reset it to factory settings yesterday , would this have anything to do with it?

Thanks for the info, I see that all software are uptodate.
Try the Hard reset on the iPod
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
If this doesn't help, try a Restore/Update the iPod software.
if your music is MP3, then google "MP3 validator", download and  then run it, this will fix the ID3 tag coruuption, which causes the song skipping.
    Good Luck!

My husband's 80GB iPod had the same problem a few months ago...turned out it was due to corrupted album artwork. Try unchecking the box "Display artwork on this iPod", close iTunes, reconnect iPod to iTunes and then recheck the box "Display album artwork on this iPod". Once I did that, the iPod loaded perfectly and no more error messages.
    Hope this helps!

  • Ipod Classic 160 6th g. doesn't sync w/Imac g5 non intel OS 10.4.11. This is a replacement for same ipod which was stolen recently. That pod worked fine with Itunes 9! Now this pod says it only works with Itunes 10.7. ***!!!! Why has Apple screwed up?

My ipod classic 160 6th gen. was recently stolen. It had 3000 tunes on it and it synced perfectly with Itunes 9 on my Imac G5 non intel OS 10.4.11. So I recently bought same model and guess what, it doesn't sync at all. Now message says it only works with Itunes 10.7 and up. I certainly cant afford to buy a new intel based Mac and I really dont need a new pc. It feels like Apple has dropped the ball on its long time users and tough luck to you and all the $$$$$$$ spent on downloading songs and buying ipods over the years! I AM SO ANGRY THAT I CANNOT BRING MY MUSIC WITH ME ANYMORE. I dont know if there is any solution to this except being extorted to upgrade to new tech! I have been trying to get answers to this issue but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not a tech genius so extremely techy solutions will be in vane.

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

  • Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices

Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices. The iPod is fully charged, iTunes reckonises my iPod touch, iPad, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, but not the iPod classic, although it says the iPod is connected it doesn't register in iTunes.

I purchased a new iPod Classic 160 GB in August 2013 and it (the iPod Classic device) would not show in iTunes though it did show in the Apple Finder. I tried EVERYTHING numerous times including resetting the iPod, updating iTunes and trying everything in the book and in on-line tips. Nothing worked and I was about to give up when I tried using the Apple iPod Classic cable that actually came in the iPod Classic box. It worked!!! Conclusion? Dont just use any old Apple cable eg. from a iPhone or whatever; TRY the USB cable that came with your iPod Classic!!! I have 2009 iMac with the latest Mac OS BTW.

  • Ipod classic 160 not visible in tunes 12

My perfectly functioning ipod classic 160 gb is invisible to itunes. It shows on the ipod screen it is connected and it shows on the imac screen as an ipod. In itunes it does not exist. It worked perfectly with itunes before the upgrade. I have seen the device bar and my iphone 5s displays there normally and functions perfectly. When only the ipod is plugged in, there are no devices in the bar and the itunes menu for device is greyed out.

If you have not, disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  With iTunes running, connect iPod to a direct USB port by itself.  This is to rule out a problem a conflict between connected USB devices, or a lack of power on the USB bus for all connected USB devices.  If you already tried that, or it does not help...
Since the iPod appears initially in iTunes, the problem may be a "feature" that recent Windows PCs, with Windows 8 and USB 3.0 ports, seem to have.  It is an "energy saver" setting that turns off full power to the USB port if the connected device is deemed "inactive" by Windows.  When you connect the iPod, iTunes does its initial sync for a few seconds.  That's when the iPod is seen in iTunes.  After the sync, iTunes unmounts the iPod's disk.  If Windows considers the iPod to be inactive and turns off full power to the USB port, that is when the iPod disappears from iTunes.
If this is the cause, you may be able to go into Windows Control Panels and turn OFF this feature (so USB ports always stay at full power).  If that does not work, or you can't find such as setting...
Alternately, you can Enable disk use on the iPod.  With disk use enabled, the iPod's disk remains mounted by the system until you Eject the iPod in iTunes, so the port remains at full power.  This may be difficult, if you don't have enough time to click on the iPod in iTunes and check the box for Enable disk use on the iPod Summary settings screen (and click Apply).  I'm assuming you have your iPod set to automatically sync your entire iTunes music library.  If so, you can extend the iPod's initial sync (when you connect it) by making a significant change to your iTunes music library (before you connect it).  If you happen to have some music CDs that you need to import into iTunes, that would work.  Add new songs to your iTunes library, and then connect iPod.  If you use the Sync only checked items setting, you can uncheck a large number of songs in your music library, connect to sync, then recheck the songs, connect to sync.  Making iTunes sync a few dozen songs during the initial sync should give you enough time to go to the iPod's Summary settings screen, and check the box for Enable disk use (and click Apply).
If that does not work (or the iPod still disappears quickly even when there are changes to sync), the cause something else.  FYI - It's not because iTunes 12 does not support discontinued iPods.  I have an 3rd gen "classic" iPod from 2003, and it works fine with iTunes 12.

  • My iPod Classic 160 is in disc mode and won't turn off, itunes doesn't recognize it - ¿how can I make it work again?

My iPod Classic 160 is in disc mode.  I responds to nothing.  iTunes doesn't recognize it.  It doesn't sync.  I've tried to restore and got error 1429.  Now it just stays in disc mode and won't turn off.  I'm keeping it connected to the charger so it doesn't go dead.  Is there anything I can do to resurrect my pod?

To get out of disk mode do a iPod Hard Reset.
Toggle the Hold switch till you dont see the red mark.

  • My Ipod Classic 160 GB will charge but is not recognized on my macbook or in itunes. Just began suddenly

I purchased my Ipod Classic 160 GB about a year ago new and never had any issues until lately. I recently updated my itunes to the newest version and my Ipod seemed fine and didn't have any trouble. About a week later my Ipod was no longer recognized by Itunes or my Mac book. The catch is, that my Ipod is still able to charge but never shows any signs of connection besides the charging screen. I have no clue where to begin.
Any help would be awesome! Thanks

Have you updated your iPod and iTunes sofware?
most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like  iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1334?viewlocale=en_USet
If  your iPod software is version 1.1.2, then you have to use lower quality format.

  • IPod classic displays 'No music' after sync, HDD problem? Geschiedenis • Verwijder  So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn't find any files on the iPod anymore. H

So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn’t find any files on the iPod anymore. However when you look in the settings it displays that ~roughly 90 GB free space is available. Seen the fact that I had about 60 gigs of music this doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I think my music is still somewhere on the ipod but the HDD isn’t recognizing it anymore.
I’ve tried resetting it, and resetting it to factory settings, which didn’t work. When connected to a desktop it won’t be recognized by iTunes, it displays an error message that the iPod cannot be read and that I have to reset it to factory settings.
I’ve spent some time researching this problem yesterday and I ran into a myriad of vaguely similar problems didn’t really offer any help. Currently I’m thinking that formatting the iPod might work, and restoring the software afterwards. However this is a rather bold strategy so I’d like to consult you here first.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • IPod Classic 160 GB doesn't work for audiobooks in BMW X3 F25

    Hello
I have been owning a 160 GB iPod classic for a while now. I have newly acquired a BMW X3 (2012 Model, F25). The problem is that when listening to audiobooks, the iPod doubles or triples the speed (and pitch) when I return to the car after having parked. So it runs fine at first, then I stop and park the car and return and then it sounds like Donald Duck is reading to me ;-)
The car comes with the USB interface to which once can connect media players like the iPod. I am using the original BMW "Y-shape" cable that has once connection on the iPod that then splits into an USB and a 3.5mm jack. I also tried cables from Belkin and the cable that came with the iPod, but all to no avail.
It is not the Audiobook faster/slower function of the ipod that is activated because that would not change pitch, it's like "the record is turning too fast", you can see the seconds in the car's display movig much faster than at a second's pace. The iPod subsequently retains this increased speed even if not connected to the car anymore and can only be slowed down again by resetting it.
I onw an older iPod photo 80 GB which does not exhibit this behavior.
The iPod classic 160 is at the latest software level and so is the car.
    Any ideas?
    Regards
    Chris

  • Ipod classic 160 usb not recognized

Ipod Classic 160 (not recognized by computer) and under Ipod Diagonistics (no Ipod found). I have two other Ipods which I-Tunes and my computer recognizes.  I have reset Ipod to no avail. Because I am unable to connect to I-Tunes with the Ipod I am unable to restore or reset.  I have watched all the YouTube videos and followed each.  One thing that is strange is it will not test or disconnect from disk mode.  I really enjoyed this I pod and hope one of you can resolve this problem for me.  Thanks

Message from Itunes when I connect Ipod Classic 160 is "Software required for communicating with the Ipod is not installed correctly. When I connect the Ipod to another older Seanix with Itunes 7.5, it works. Can anybody out there solve this problem. I have been going round and round for 10 hours. Cheers.

My new iPod Classic 160 GB is not read by my MacBook.  It doesn't show up in Finder or in iTunes.  What can I do so my computer recognizes it?

Swap to another USB 2.0 port and dont use any USB HUB. (only one of the Macbook USB port can be use for iPod Classic)
If that doesn't work, use another  USB cable.
When you connect to the Macbook USB port, the iPod screen should show this symbol.
