IPod Classic (5th and 6th gen) with Apple Universal Dock - static fuzz?!?!

I have been using my ipod classics with a Belkin input in the headphone jack for the last 6 months to my stereo. But I wanted a remote, so I picked up the Universal Dock. But ever since I got the dock, about 30 min into listening to music I get a static fuzz on the speakers. The fuzz goes away when I un-dock the iPod, then back again eventually once I re-dock. I never get the sound when I just use the line out from the iPod. I thought it was a faulty Universal Dock, so I exchanged it, but the same problem exists. Why?!?!?!?!
Anyone else have a similar problem?
I really want to continue using the Apple Dock, but the static spoils the deal

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

  • IPod nano 5th and 6th generation battery

I've both iPod nano 5th and 6th gen which i kept them brand new in box for years. Today, I took them out to charge and it seemed like the charging takes forever. Once I turn off the power supply, I'm unable to turn them too. Is this a case of dead battery? Anyone knows how I can save them? Thanks.

Lithium Polymer batteries need to be exercised with a power cycle once per month. You will need to have the batteries replaced.

  • Are the newer ipod classics (80GB and above) compatible with docks for the older ipod classics (20GB)?)

are the newer ipod classics (80GB and above) compatible with docks for the older ipod classics (20GB)?)

I have an iPod Touch 2 with iOS 4.2.1.  This is the highest version that works on this device.  I checked it once and it had to do with iOS 4.3 and above only supporting the higher RAM CPUs on newer devices.
Apple does make it harder than it needs to be.  There still remain a number of apps available on iTunes that will work but they are hard to find because you must manually look at each app specs to see if the app supports an iOS below 4.3
App backups are your friend since iTunes has no way to keep older version of apps.

Does anyone know if the FM tuner in the ipod nano 6G works with the universal dock to give audio output?

  • 3rd generation iPod with Apple Universal Dock?

I have a 3rd generation iPod, the one with touch buttons (not touch screen). The new Apple Universal Dock will run with that iPod model? I know that I won't be able to see videos on a TV because my iPod doesn't play video, but should I'll be able to charge it and sync it with the computer and connect it to the hifi stereo? The Apple Remote could run as well?

I don't see why it wouldn't, unless its for some reason imcompatible with FireWire.
The Apple Store doesn't list it on the compatible iPods list, but I believe that is for 2 reasons: 1) They want you to buy a new, video-capable iPod and 2) It doesn't come with a dock adaptor designed to fit the 3rd gen.

  • Problem with Apple Universal Dock and Iphone 3G

Just bought the newest version of the Apple universal dock (revision C), so I can have one dock for my iphone and all my ipods.
It appears that even the newest version isn't 100% compatible with the iphone.
When the iphone is connected via the dock, you get no alert sounds such as for new email, text, etc..when the phone rings you DO get audio then.
Also, when you try and sync the iphone with itunes while connected, it won't sync. It just hangs and says "sync cannot be completed"....
Connecting the iphone directly via the cable to the computer solves all these issues.
They advertise this as compatible with iphone but obviously not so...

    Update:
    I've checked this:
-Aux (Dock-Connector) of the iPod has no damage, no problems playing music in the car!
-Same Problem now with iPhone. It gets charged and so, but if I want to listen to music it is very quiet, music is playing for half a second or so, after that stopped, than goes on playing for a second or so. Cracking sounds often while music is stopped.
So the Dock is broken, I guess.
Any possibility to restart/resert or so by my own or try to get it fixed by apple?
    Greetz!

  • IPhone (3,3G,4) does not work with Apple Universal Dock.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch that has been upgraded to iOS 4. My iPod Touch will no longer sync via the Apple Universal Dock. Also, my new iPhone 4 also will not sync via the Apple Universal Dock.

Trust a geek not to give up. I decided to get to the bottom of the "iOS device does not work with the Apple Universal Dock" problem. I noticed that the iPhone 4 and iPad came with slightly different USB-Dock adapter cables. I wondered if that might be the issue. My Apple Universal Dock was connected to my Mac via the original dock adapter cables which are slightly larger. I connected the newer cables between the Mac and the Apple Universal Dock and .... voila! Both the iPod Touch with iOS 4 and the iPhone can now connect via the Apple Universal Dock. Apple changed something in the way the adapter cables function.
Of course I still have the problem with the car head unit dock adapter ... Sigh. I'll have to call Best Buy ( uughh! ) and find out if they'll do the update for me. The were the vendor authorized installer.

  • Can the iPod nano fourth generation fit on the apple universal dock?

Hi, I'm looking at purchasing an iPod nano fourth generation used, and I'm reading a lot of things saying that the charger for the iPod touch and iPad does not work with it.  Is that a load of garbage and will the universal dock work for it? Thano you

Yes.  It can be charged using the same USB dock connector cable and wall adapter.
will the universal dock work for it?
Yes, but it will require the necessary adapter.

  • Using Iremote with Apple Universal Dock

Having recently bought an Ipod, and being the Gadget-happy person that I am, I stocked up on the accessories as well. Radio remote, Universal Dock, and the before mentioned Iremote. All great stuff I thought.
My first but smalles disappointment was that all accessories are available in white only. I, of course got the Black Ipod. That however is a cosmetic issue, that i will just have to deal with
The Iremote however was the cause of my next concern. The "Menu" button did not work with the Universal Dock when testing it at home. I returned again to the store, where the clerk contacted the local affiliate of Apple, and it was more or less confirmed that in spite of the Iremote being sold, and promoted as an accessory to the Universal dock, the actual remote has a button, hence/or a function that is completely useless with the dock itself.
    "Apple Remote
The Universal Dock supports the new Apple Remote, so you can plug iPod into the Dock, connect to a TV or stereo and control everything from afar." quote from apple.com
Following this dissapointing news, I went to the actual Apple store and inquired again regarding the remote. The sales person I spoke to was not aware of the lack of compatibility but after confering with a colleague, and testing the equipment for himself, he had to agree with me. We also tested the remote with the Ipod HiFi (which was next on my shopping list, obviously I am now reconsidering that one..)and the menu button did NOT work here either.
The reason that I got from the colleague whom the sales person had conferred with earlier was that "you wouldn't be able to see the Ipod screen from across the room anyway, so there is no reason for the button to work"
This, so called reason is (obviously) COMPLETELY BESIDES THE POINT.
Am I the only one who thinks this is completely insane ? I would like to hear opinions of other gadget-happy people, and if possible their experience with the Iremote and the Universal Dock.
Sincerely, an otherwise thrilled new Ipod owner

    Dear cjsiv
It is correct that I am using Pc and not Mac with my Ipod. This is however irrelevant as I am not referring to the use of the remote when being connected to my PC.
I do of course appreciate your point that the menu button works when accessing the frontrow menu on your mac.
In my original text I am referring to the use of the universal dock as a connection point to my stereo, as the quote from apple.com suggests. I am sure you can appreciate that in this situation it makes no difference whether you are a mac or a PC user.
The actual matter is that the promoting phrase suggests that you can control your ipod fully when using the remote, when in fact you can not.
Now for the record. I am a big fan of apple products in general, mostly due to its simplicity and pureness in design, ergo my angle towards the company and their products is in no way negative. Therefore when you suggest that my attitude towards their products is that they are all junk, I must strongly beg to differ.
    sincerely

  • Using iPhone 3GS with Apple Universal Dock

I want to get the Apple Universal Dock to use with my iPhone 3GS. The main purpose of this, at this time, is to hook up the iPhone to my living room speakers (computer speakers) to listen to music.
I know I could just use a mini stereo cable to hook up the dock to the aux-in on the speakers, and then be able to control everything with remotes. However, this would require plugging and unplugging the cable each time so that if I wanted to switch to watch TV the speakers would output the correct audio. Sorry if that is confusing.
The other option I'm thinking about is using the Apple Component AV Cable to hook up the dock to my TV, which outputs to the computer speakers, that way it could always stay connected and I can switch inputs with the remote. MY QUESTION IS WHAT WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE TV IF I AM JUST USING THE IPHONE FOR MUSIC AND NOT VIDEOS? Will it show a visualizer like with iTunes, album artwork, nothing? Please answer from personal experience. Thank you for your help.

  • IPod Classic 80gb, 5/6th gen doesn´t work properly with Renault Media Nav?

    Hello,
I really hope, anyone in here can I help me. Recently I got an new Renault including the Media Nav Radio System. I wanted to use an Ipod Classic 80gb, 5 or 6th gen. I connect it via USB an everything is fine. The problem that is annoying me, is that if I shut down the Radio by closing the doors with the key an start the Media Nav afterwards, the iPod everytime starts playing from the "All-Songs"-Playlist and not from the point of playback I was listening to, as I stopped playing music. The iPod touch 4g (8gb) in contrast works fine and without any problems.
My question now is: is it possible in general to use the iPod Classic properly or are the Software versions used in Media Nav and iPod incompatible?
Thanks a lot for your help!

So I had a similar problem on my 120 gig classic. After months of go around with the repairs department, we finally figured out the problem. ITUNES 9.0.3, KILLS THE HARD DRIVE on classics. What you need to do is get apple support to send you a REPLACEMENT, do NOT accept a repair, as they are idiots and only try to sync maybe one song, don't get the problem, and will send it RIGHT back to you, unfixed. Believe me, it is a Hard Drive issue. Once you get your new ipod, UNINSTALL itunes 9, and go back to using 8.2.1, it will work believe me. Hope this helps.

  • My ipod Classic hangs and freezes on the apple screen.  It will not do anything.  I tried to restore using iTunes, but came out 1415 error code, and cannot do anything about it.

My iPod Classic which I rarely uses.  I try to refresh it and put new song into it.
As I try with iTunes, it runs very slow and show that it had problem, need to restore it.
When I tried, it will not and hangs, also slows my HP Win 7 system immensly.
I tried to reset, pressing the middle and menu botton, now it hangs on the apple screen and remains there forever.
What is the problem and how can I solve it?

The screen is telling you to connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes.

  • IPod classic 5th is not recognized by operating systems or iTunes

I have an iPod Classic 5th generation A1136 (80g with video).  Recently, right around the time of the new iTunes release, my iPod is no longer recognized by my Mac (in disk mode) or in iTunes (in any mode).  It still charges when connected to my computer.  It plays music (and video) in all of my docking stations.  It isn't recognized by the machine.  I have tried iTunes on other machines.  I have tried the 5 R's.  I have put it in disk mode.  I have reset the iPod.  I have reinstalled iTunes on my Mac.  Every solution i have read about, I have pretty much tried.  Could this be a hardware issue?  If so, what sort of issue would produce these symptoms.

You have a 4th gen Ipod.  First reset the ipod , then put it in disk mode. then plug it back into computer. That second icon of the folder  means it can't find an OS.  You might have to take it apart to see if you have the hard drive seated correctly and the hard drive ribbon. If none of this works, uplug and restart it, hold you ear to it and listen to see if you hear a clicking or buzzing sound. If you do the hard drive is bad. To do a reset -toggle the hold switch on the end by the screen then press and hold the center button and the menue button at the same time-then as soon as the apple comes up - press and hold the center button and the botton of the click wheel, disk mode should come up.  Plug back in and see if it comes up in itunes do a restore. The bottom of the click wheel is play- pause. It's also what you hold to shut it down.
