Ipod classic 80 freezes itunes and won't work

upgraded itunes to 10.1 (etc). plugged in formerly operating ipod classic 80. it showed up in the device list,. but i could not move the cursor off music. had to use ctrl-alt-delete to close itunes.
ipod would not disconnect. tried to disconnectg by clicking on eject media (i'm using windows 7), but nothing happened. was forced to disconnect ipod the wrong way- by pulling out the usb, and only then did uit say- ok to disconnect.
itunes then unfroze.
removed itunes following apples list of how to do it. reinstalled itunes.
reset ipod. started itunes. music plays in itunes. plugged ipod in. it showed up in the device lisiting, but i was unable to left click on it. (however- it trid to sync this time - but i got message that said 'the ipod "jose L morales's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found. (and no option but OK)'This time when i right-clicked on the ipod lising, it let me click on eject ipod.
i clicked- it didn't disconnect.
now i have ipod with no music and can't put any music on it.
any suggestions.
and yes- i installed the 64 bit itunes in the 64 bit program files

actually thats what i tried- but on a computer running itunes 9.
plugged ipod i. it would let me transfer music from itunes to ipod (in disk mode), but when unplugged the ipod did not retain the music.
so restored it, and downloaded updated ipod software (not itunes software.
seems to be working now.

  • My 2 month old Iphone is losing it's mind.  It's randomly turning on Voice Command and calling people or turning on the IPod.  It freezes up and won't let me go back to the home screen.

My 2 month old IPhone started randomly turning on Voice Command and calls people and turns on the IPod.  It freezes up and won't let me push the home button.  Any suggestions?

OK, I reset it several times and it worked fine all day yesterday.  Today when I turned on the bluetooth it went back to the same problem.  Voice Control comes on and the home button won't work at all.  I have gone through the reset many times and it isn't working.  How do I restore firmware as you suggested?

  • Ipod freezes itunes and won't sync

My ipod is driving me crazy. It started before I left for Iraq. It begin to sync to itunes only to freeze once it got about 3 gb's in. I would then unplug it only to find nothing on it. I sent it to my brother in the hopes he might be able to repair it. In a fit of drunken wisdom, he managed to inadvertently restore the factory settings and he sent it back to me with all sorts of movies and songs on it. I jammed out for a while only to find that slowly, the songs I used to be able to play would no longer work despite the fact they were listed on the ipod screen. I finally tried re-synching it only to have it freeze itunes three gb's in like it did before I left. I have restored it with itunes and done the restore thing with just the ipod with no results. If you have any suggestions, please help.

Have you tried doing a reset on the iPod? That may help if its the ipod directly... It may have something where it's not breaking to do the SYNC with the computer
Here's a link to help you with the reset, what ever you do just don't do the "restore" setp.. As this link does the whole 5 r's to help resovle issues...

  • My iPod classic is freezing iTunes

    Hi,
My 160GB iPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze when I plug it in. I also cannot safely eject the iPod. Also, for some reason a lot of the iPod's memory is being taken up by something under the category of 'other'.
Here is some information from diagnostics mode:
    Retracts 0
    Reallocs 8
    Pending sectors 56
    Power on hours 18
    Start/Stops 1769
    Temp: current 33c
    Temp: min 12c
    Temp: max 54c
I got this ipod December last year, so it isn't that old. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong?
    Thank you

See Corrupt iPod classic. for some general ideas. The "other" is likely to be the lost remnants of previous attempts to sync the device. The pendings are areas of the disc that won't read reliably. If they contain part of a song the iPod will skip to the next track once it cannot read the data, but if they contain part of a directory or the device's database then the iPod is likely to crash and iTunes will freeze when it tries to read data from it. A format or DFU restore may release all of the pending sectors and allow normal operation. given that the device is less than a year old you may want to check your warranty options while you still can.

  • 8GB ipod touch keeps freezing up and won't run apps correctly

I have an 8GB ipod touch that is almost a year old and it keeps freezing up.  Some apps that use the motion side to side to move objects, doodlejump for example, won't work.  I have reloaded apps and restored the ipod and it is still having a problem.  What would be the issue and can it be fixed?

If the restore you did was from backup. restore to factory defaults/new iPod since you may have corruption that is now in your backup.  If you then still have problems I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  If they determine it is a hardware problem and it is within warranty they should give you a replacment iPod.

  • My ipod classic locks up itunes and displays "no music" help!

this all happened after i upgraded to the newest version of itunes.
so far, ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and resetting the ipod, but no go.
i know i cant be the only one hanging onto a 2008 ipod classic 80gb.
can anyone offer some words of advice?

    Hey mryanrichey,
If I understand your question correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not showing any content after updating. I believe your symptoms may be related to those outlined in the following resource:
No content shows up in iTunes after updating

If the proposed solution does not resolve your issue, you may want to refer to the following article:

  • IPod Classic 120G turned off and won't turn back on.

I have the iPod Classic 120G and I was listening to it and it turned off. I've tried restarting it and plugged the iPod back into the computer and it still fails to turn on. Help please?

If it's not the HOLD switch, try resetting it with the two-button combo.

  • Ipod classic will not restore and will not work after many attempts

I have purchased and replaced 3 ipod models, This is my third one (80GB ipod classic) and with out fail after 1 year and 2 months after buying it, it stopped syncing with my itunes and now after 5 attempts to restore it will not restore and will not work. I am sick of this and find it preposterous. What is wrong with ipods..? what is wrong with my recent one?

I have tried to restore via itunes and I still get the same message on the Ipod after many many restore attempts."Use iTunes to restore" with the picture of a plug on the screen and then it just shuts down. Exactly 1 year and 2 months after I purchased it as was the previous Ipod I had in 07.... what is going on?
Are ipods not made to work with both macs and pc's? it seems they just shut down after a while
    what can I do?

  • Ipod Nano Error 1417 Tried and won;t work

I've tried looking through the restart method, the disconnect and reconnect method, and nothing works. My Ipod Nano is Ver. 1.0, and the update process does not pop up with a dialogue box, all it does is 'updating' but it's really doing nothing, help?

are you still at an itunes version 7.0.0.70, Chang?
to check, go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
if you've still got a 7.0.0.70, first try an upgrade to 7.0.1.8:
    iTunes 7.0.1.8 Installer
if you still get the 1417 when using 7.0.1.8, let's get your iPod Updater logs to the Apple engineers for a look.
    Open this folder:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Updater Logs
(You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders.")
Send the files inside the iPod Updater logs folder as attachments to this email address.
In the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • My sons ipod touch says ipod disabled connect to itunes and then doesnt work, what do i do?

how do i unlock my sons "disabled ipod"?

You need to connect it to iTunes, and then perform a Restore on it.
If it tells you that you need a password to Restore it, you may need to put it into Recovery Mode.

  • IPod Classic recognized by iTunes, but won't sync? (Windows 8)

iTunes recognizes it and I can go to the menu that displays the filled memory, options (enables disk use, sync only checked songs, etc.), and "sync" button. The iPod screen says that it is connected and charging, and it does not freeze. The computer doesn't have any issues; iTunes (11.0.0.163) doesn't crash or anything.
Everything seems fine, but when I click the "sync" button, nothing happens. I tried changing some settings and hitting "apply" instead to sync it, but that doesn't work either.
My computer is running Windows 8, and I've heard that some people have been having problems with using iTunes on this operating system. The only solution I've found is to make sure disk use is enabled, but that hasn't worked for me (it seems to only apply to newer models of iPod, not my Classic). I honestly don't know what I'll do if Windows 8 is incompatible with Classics because I just spent a lot of money on the iPod and this is the only computer I can use!
I'd love some help with this. Solutions are preferable of course, but even if you can just identify whether this is a problem with me/my computer or with Apple vs Windows, it'd be much appreciated! Thanks

What seems to have worked is checking "manually manage music and videos" and dragging all my music onto my iPod, instead of just letting the normal iTunes sync work.
I'm still upset about this, but as long as I can SOMEHOW get music on my iPod, I can wait until Apple fixes this problem. Which they better do.

  • IPod Classic freezes Itunes and wont Restore

    I have a IPod Classic 120GB.
I was saving a file onto my IPod because i also use it as a hard drive, and the file wouldn't save. Then i noticed that iTunes froze. So i tried saving again and nothing happened.
So i unplugged my IPod and had to go to the task manager to close iTunes.
Every time i plug my iPod into my computer, it freezes iTunes. I'v tried accessing files by going to the ipod and opening it from there and going to programs such as photoshop and opening it through there and all of them say that they cant open it, then they freeze as well. I have also tried uninstalling itunes and then reinstalling a earlier version but that didnt work, so i uninstalled it and reinstalled the latest version of itunes and that didnt work either.
I tried plugging my ipod into another computer and when i click on a normal jpg. image to open from my ipod, it says that the file isnt even there, but there is an icon showing it there.
Im asumeing all my files are corrupt, so i tried to reset my ipod more than once by pressing the select + menu button for 10 seconds, then when the apple appears, i pressed the select + play to get into disk mode. there is get a check mark and connect message, nothing else happens. I tried pluggin it into my computer when i get that screen on my ipod and nothing happens cept my itunes again freezes. So i cant seem to plug it into itunes so i can restore my ipod.
when i have my ipod plugged into my computer, and i start my computer, my computer goes to a black screen, and in white words says something about
    Volume Serial number 3141-5926
    Fat32
    check for consistancy,
and it does then says that all my files on the hard drive are unreadable and have been removed.
but when i look into my ipod after, their all still there. I tried deleting them by going into my computer, opening my ipod hard drive, but the moment i go to delete them, that too freezes.
I also recieve notifications from windows that it cant even connect to my Ipod.
also the hold switch, is not in the on position, its always been in the off position, and my iPod itself has never frozen.
    Im running Vista.
I dont care that i lose everything on my ipod, i just want to set it back to factory condition like when i first bought it. I just cant seem to do so.
    Help Please

He plugged it into his Mac and then it too froze his iTunes, then when he tried to access the hard drive his Mac crashed. He basically had the same problems as i did with it at home.
Eeek! Sounds like it was being "The iPod Of Doom".
Thank you so much for trying to helping me. I printed this all off and showed him and since he said we tried everything we could and it also wouldnt work for them either, we just replaced it.
Thanks very much for letting me know, Ty! (Always a relief to know I was on the right track with a troubleshoot.)
Glad you got a good resolution. Hope the new iPod behaves itself a bit better for you.

  • Help! My ipod classic is not working with the new itunes, it has crashed, i went to the apple store and they restore it but when i came home it just freeze itunes and windows to the point of forcing shut down my pc, is a 160gb ipod classic

Help!! The guy at the shop told me is an "antique" , i bought it a year ago only and barely used it, i feel lile burned money, ipod classic is my favorite model, any suggestions plzzzz!!!!

Glad 7.7.1 worked for you, I updated itunes on my macbook, and every time i try to sync the music to my ipod classic, it goes for 23 songs and then it freezes and I get "Cannot read or write to this disk", and it ejects it. I tried uninstalling itunes, reinstalling an earlier version (7.6.2) same problem, plus a new issue with itunes. (It was a clean uninstall, btw, I got everything cleaned out, I think, lol). Video's transfer fine. And no good way to get ahold of apple. That's great. If I have no music on my ipod, it's useless. Think they'll give me my money back? (lol)

I also had this problem last week.  in the meantime,  I have upgraded Itunes in Maverick.  when i connected this am -  it took about 15 minutes for the connected iPod to show in itunes with message " ITunes cannot read the information on this IPod"   there was an "OK" button underneath the message.   select OK.   the iPod will show as empty onscreen and a prompt to reset to factory settings.   I reset to factory settings - ejected iPod - restarted computer - connected iPod - ITunes then treated my iPod as "new" - for setup.  now after sync - ALL IS FINE AGAIN...

  • IPod Classic "Verifying" Makes Itunes freeze

Well since the itunes 9 update or whatever whenever i plug in the USB cord to my ipod (not just mine I've tried all my friends) my itunes freezes up; but when i unplug the USB coord from the ipod itunes stops freezing and runs normally. So i cant even add songs.
    any solutions?

I am having a similar issue, for about a week or so (first major ipod issue in almost 2 years). When I plug in my ipod classic, iTunes freezes/ gives me the spinning beach ball. This lasts for about an hour, during which time itunes is unusable. After an hour or so, the ipod is recognized by itunes and syncs properly.
I have re-installed itunes, used older versions, created a new library, and restored my ipod.
My iPod works fine on other machines, and other ipods seem to work on my computer as well. The issue seems to be unique to my ipod/computer account combo.
Apple Genius Bar was able only to confirm that my iPod seemed to be functioning normally, and perhaps I had a corrupt library (I don't, as the problem persists with a new library).
If anyone has any advice on what could be the issue (a corrupt user/system file hidden somewhere?) it would be greatly appreciated. THanks
