IPod Classic 80gb - "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time"

Having trauled the Internet this evening, it appears i'm not the only person having this problem. This afternoon I updated my iPod and downloaded the latest software update. Since then, my iPod has not worked, it wont switch on, it wont reset and when I connect it to my laptop, iTunes displays the "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time". Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have tried downloading version 1.03 and putting that in the Apple software updates folder, as suggested in another thread on here but that does not work. I have tried to reset it whilst plugged into my in car charger, this doesnt seem to work either. As this seems to be a common fault, there must be a way of sorting it?

My 80Gb iPod Classic died a few days ago, shortly after installing the latest iTunes update, syncing it and then plugging into my integrated iPod kit in the car. I could not get the iPod to switch on after this and it would not appear in Windows explorer or iTunes (although I did get the rather unhelpful "iTunes cannot recognize iPod at this time" message). I tried various suggestions from the web but to no avail.
I've managed to resolve the problem by uninstalling version 7.6.1.9 and all associated apps (iTunes, Safari, Quicktime and anything called Apple xxx in Add/Remove Programs). Then I downloaded and installed the previous version of iTunes 7.6.0.29 (you can get this from http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/3694/) and this seemed to sort the problem.
Needless to say, I won't be updating my iTunes version for some time!

My Shuffle 2G lost power yesterday and when I connected it to my Mac mini to recharge, the light flashed a few times before getting the error prompt "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time." The prompt instructs the use of the reset utility, which I ran repeatedly to no avail. I've tried all the rebooting, restarting iTunes, switching USB ports, etc. with the same error message each time.
The power indicator is no longer responding at all following the first time that I connected it yesterday. Is my Shuffle completely fried? I've only had it a year and it was hardly ever used during that duration. Help!The exact same thing just happened to my 2nd Gen shuffle. It stopped playing due to low battery charge, then when i tried to connect it ti iTunes, it said it 'could not recognize iPod at this time" and to use the reset utikity. I have now ran the reset utility a few times....but there is no change.

I have an old iPod Classic that iTunes cannot "find" even though it shows it. I can't even restore it. Works fine except can't synch with iTunes to add new music!?
We (Appple techs) tried disk mode and that didn't work. At times the iPod would even "show" itself in iTunes and iTunes would say it was synching but when you looked at the iPod you could tell it wasn't ( it just said do not disconnect) and after 10 to 40 minutes later iTunes would say can't find iPod. We would then have to force quit iTunes because it was hung up and then just disconnect the iPod. The iPod works fine with headphones or a docking station, just can't add (or subtract) anything to it. It completely mystified all the techs in the store and all "senior" advisors on the phone- and that was about 4.5 hours getting tossed to one "expert" or another! Ah well, indeed stranger than life.

I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
Can someone help me out, please? :}

The “hosts” file may also be blocking gs.apple.com.
Select the hosts file (normally you can find your hosts file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC).

Please tell me which Ipod dock adapter is compatible with the Ipod Classic 80GB? They no longer make this particular Ipod and I need the right dock adapter for my Panasonic SC-HC25 stereo system with universal dock for Ipod/Iphone I recently purchased.

Look through the compatible list chart and see which 80GB model are you using, either ID 9 or 10. you can order through Apple Online Store.

If you have jailbroken your iPod before and used Tiny Umbrella then it could be that your hosts file has been modified and is not pointing to Apple's servers. In that case you have to fix your hosts file and everything should be ok. If you didn't jailbreak then try putting your iPod in dfu mode. Shut it off completely then hold both the power button and home button for 10 seconds then let go of the power button while still holding the home button. Then it should restore through iTunes. Hope this helps!

- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
I have an iPhone, but cannot use it at this time. So Im trying to text off my iPod, but it only comes up as my email. How do I make it use my iPhone number?
The iPod will only have a phone numnber for Messages and FaceTime if the same ID is currently being used with an iPhone with iOS 6 and and that ID is used for Messages and faceTime.
There is no way to add a phone number to an iPod otherwise.
Also, on the iPod yoo can only send and receive Messages from other users who use the Apple Messages app. -

hello! i tried to install OS5 in my 1st gen IPAD (16gb) and it froze in the process. My IPad still runs normally (on OS 4) EXCEPT itunes cannot recognize, sync or even charge my IPad!
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -
I've rented an SD movie from iTunes but cannot download it as I normally do to my iPad 2. Message reads "download error" followed by a small window with message "movie cannot be downloaded at this time". I have been billed by iTunes. What next?

There are a couple things that I would recommend trying. Try closing all open applications and power cycle the device. Next, go through the section labeled Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the second article below. If the issue persists, try completely signing out of the iTunes Store on the iOS device and sign back in. Be sure to test downloading an application after each step.

Hi guys, When I try to update my iphone4s to the latest software on itunes via my MacBook a message displays a message: 'This iPhone "Seans iphone" cannot be updated at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable'. I just got the iphone 3g and dug out my eMac to use for the syncing. I pulled it out and downloaded the .mpkg file and put it on a thumbdrive (I have no internet at my house) and I tried to install it on the eMac and got this error --- "itunes cannot be installed on this computer because it requires mac os x 10.3.9 or higher" but I only have 10.2.8... Why does it matter what OSX I have? It's new software but who cares??
