IPod Classic Album Art Issues

I see people have been having issues with album art but I think mine's different
I have the 160G iPod classic, the current iTunes for Windows & iPod software
My problem is that with the rectangular cover art I use, my iPod will not resize it to fit the thumbnail screen at the corner of my iPod (like it does for the square ones--like CD covers)
Is there a way to get iTunes/iPod to resize the cover art to fit the screen?
Size I don't think is an issue, since the square ones are not very small (500x500 or 600x600. etc.)
Any thoughts?

What you see is what you get. There are no hidden commands to get the iPod treat regular images as square. If it matters enough then you probably need to copy the images out to a picture editor like paint.net, change the aspect ratio and paste them back. At least that's what I do...

  • IPod has album art issues

I'm pretty sure this is a top problem amongst iPod users. I've been trying to find a solution, but so far no good.
My iPod has had some album artwork issues lately. This problem doesn't affect a majority of my songs, but it's a really annoying problem. Despite me adding correct covers for each song on iTunes, the artwork for certain songs don't appear like they do on iTunes. They get switched with other covers from other songs on my iPod, get switched with screenshots from my iPod videos, and sometimes don't appear at all. This is despite the fact that they appear perfectly fine on iTunes.
Case 1: Album covers get switched with other album covers. In one case, the album art used for a Jason Mraz song was the album art for an Owl City song that was also on my iPod.
Case 2: For some songs, screenshots from my iPod videos appear as album art. I've got a screenshot from a Futurama episode where my Rihanna album cover should be.
Case 3: For some songs, nothing appears at all except the standard musical note icon, despite me having added covers to these songs on iTunes.
Case 4: Likewise, for some of my videos, album art from my songs appear for icons, instead of a selected screenshot from the video, which is usually what appears. In fact, the album art that does appear is the art from songs where Case 3 applies.
This is a really irritating problem that I'd like to see get fixed. The most commonly cited solution to this problem, restoring the iPod, didn't permanently work for me. Please help!

  • Ipod classic album art work

Hello some of my albums in the coverflow on my ipod classic are in the wrong order for example the strokes, the doves and others are at the end of the coverflow in the ipod classic. please help me?

If your iPod is set to update automatically give this a try , it can often sort out wrong artwork problems:
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes (Right click on the iPod icon and choose Sync from the menu)
    4. Re-enable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.

  • 2G Ipod Touch picture and album art issues

I have a 2nd Generation 8GB Touch with 4.0.2 installed. Just recently I've noticed a couple of issues with it.
When I look at the photos stored, in the thumbnail view some of the photos are just a black box, but when I view the pics, they show normally.
When I am looking at the album art, a couple of the albums have wrong artwork showing, even though in iTunes it has the correct artwork showing there. For example one album has the artwork for a podcast that I no longer have synced to the iPod. If I browse to right to look at the next album, in the background where you see the album covers of the other albums, it shows the right artwork. Another album just has artwork for another podcast, but when I see it behind another album, it is showing the artwork for the podcast that I first mentioned earlier.
Has anybody else seen this or something like it and know how to resolve it?

I called Apple and was told that I needed to restore the iPod. The problem is that I had purchased and installed the January upgrade on my iMac and not my MacBook.
I restored the iPod on the iMac and then synced to the MacBook.
    Problem solved!

  • IPod Classic Album Issue

    Hello,
I recently purchased an iPod Classic from a local retailer.  Everything about it works great except for one thing that is really anoying.
I have a full album by a band that I purchased on iTunes a couple of years ago.  For some reason I can't get the album to properly sync with my iPod.  What it shows is 6 songs in one album and 22 in another and there is a total of 28 songs on the album.  I've completely checked line by line in the "Get Info" section to make sure all the artist name and album information and track information matched up like it should.  I've even checked for odd occurences in the title like an upper case versus a lower case character.  No such luck to be found.  I've also tried to completely remove the album from iTunes by moving the files to the trash, re-syncing my iPod to remove the files then taking the files out of the trash and placing them back into iTunes.  I then sync the iPod again and it still shows up the same way!  I'm out of ideas here and have spent literally a couple hours trying to figure this one out and have had no luck.  The odd thing is when you click on either album cover it lists all the songs in the album even though it says 6 for one album cover and 22 for another both have the full 28 track listing.
    Very odd.
Please help me if you can!

Since you seem to have checked alll the other possibilities, it may be an extra "space" character at the end of some text and they are very hard to spot.
One thing you could try; use the artist name (since it sounds as though that's the field that causing the problem) and copy it from one of the songs and then paste it into every other song on the album. By using copy and paste, you know that the same information is now on every track (for that field).
You obviously need to Sync that change to the iPod (I guess you knew that... but for the benefit of anyone else reading this).
    Does that fix it?

  • IPod Classic album artwork gone in new iTunes display board as of 1 Dec 2012

Now that I installed the new iTunes software and connect my iPod Classic the album artwork display in the bottom left corner has disappeared! There are other new features on this new iTunes layout that annoy me!
Apple...please go back to your previous iTunes layout and get my album artwork back.
My iPod is fine, there is nothing wrong with my iPod, just iTunes and their ridiculous change! I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes to no avail.
And NO, I DO NOT use the apple iTunes store for anything, just use iTunes to connect to my iPod Classic, that's all, nothing further!
So don't go trying to sell me something on the iTunes store! NOT INTERESTED!
Why do you people tend to make things more difficult after I finally figured out your last iTunes layout?!
Simple guy non-computer geek here, just your average all-American Joe!
Can someone out there assist? Any way I can return to the previous version? This new version bites! Thanks much!

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough. iTunes store art seems to be generally 600x600.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • Can someone help with an album art issue???

I am using iTunes 9.....this problem was in iTunes 8 too....but anyway....when i get a new album I make a new playlist and put the album in the playlist......and when I click the arrow that pulls out the sidebar to view the album art for the album each song has its own icon for album art.....but I would like the entire playlist to have one icon because they're all off of the same album......how might i manage this??
heres a link to another forum with pictures of what I'm talking about:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=199060

I've dealt with that space after a title issue before, but usually with artist names. If the space after the title is different for different tracks, they are not identical, that's why my advice was to change them all at the same time.
I periodically scroll through my artists and albums in the column browser looking for just that sort of issue, because if they're not identical in itunes, they're going to be separated on my ipod.
And while I love making convoluted playlist systems myself, I agree with the unsolicited advice on separate playlists for every album. You are going to see slower loading times eventually.

  • Solution for album art issues

I spent some time with the issue downloading album art. First, the application seems to be quite specific with artist/album text. I went through my library with the mini store turned on and compared the album titles to my albums with the titles in the store. I noticed that the albums that had issues downloading the art were spelled differently (additional apostrophe, and instead of N, etc...)
Once I fixed all the album titles, I was able to get the artwork for all of my albums. Next issue is that iTunes is not synching the added art work. It seems that adding art work through the application does not trigger a synch. I had to change the settings on my iPod to manually manage my library. Deleted all my songs off the iPod and change the settings back to automatic and iTunes synched everything back over with the added album art.
Hope this helps anyone having issues...

GreyCharleh I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get an answer?
I bought music on iTunes, created a Playlist - which SHOWED the album artwork in the playlist.
BUT when I burned a CD, the album artwork did not burn with the music.
Any help? Any suggestions? Or am I SOL?

  • IPod Classic 160Gb - Skipping issues

    Hi all,
Recently I have updated my iPod Classic 160gb to the new version.
    I have noticed the following:
When I push >>| (next) button to go to the next track, the next track sometimes
will start playing in the middle of that song!
All my songs are mp3, I don't know that their bitrate (192, 384 or vbr, ...)
I only noticed this behavior yesterday.
    Has anyone noticed this too?
Is there a solution for it?
I only have 4400 songs on it ....

The issues are real. A thread that had over 100 posts about itunes and the classic ipod freezing has been locked and no one can post anything more. Just to post what I have already posted:
I have a new 160 gb Silver model. The ipod and itunes frezes after it is recognized by itunes. Itunes freezes half way through the sync process when only sycning one album. It will freeze for 80 seconds and then the rest of the songs will sync. It will then freeze up again for 80 seconds, and then after all the songs are synced, it will freeze one more time before I have full use. I have tried 2 160gb ipods, I've restored and added a library. I have bought a new computer from a previous XP. My new Vista operating syatem does the exact same thing. Tech support is clueless and cannot add anything to why this is happening. I have the latest version of itunes and the latest software version for the ipod.

  • Ipod Classic 160GB having issues, need help please?

I am on vacation away from my home computer where my iTunes is.  I turned on my iPod and scrolled down to Music and it showed "No Music."  Went to "About" and saw that there were only 9GB of free space, so I felt for sure it was there because that's right at what I had when I last synced it, which was a couple days ago and it finished syncing with no problems.  Went to the next "About" screen where you can see how much Audio, Video etc. etc. you have and it showed 0 Audio and The "Other" category had all the data in it.  What happened to my music, and can I get it back on vacation without my iTunes on my computer at home?  I tried the holding down of the Select middle button and the Menu button until the Apple logo appeared but that did not restore any Audio.  Hope someone can help me out here.....Thanks

Solved my issue and thought I might do someone a favor by posting the answer.  If you wind up with NO MUSIC and find all your audio files have been synced into the OTHER folder on your iPod such as what happened to me, AND if you happen to be unlucky enough not to have access to your computer where your iTunes program would allow you to re-sync your iPod, here's what worked for me in a Windows7 OS.
1.You will have to find a computer that has enough storage to hold the amount of information stored on your iPod.  In my case, 139GB!!!  Download iTunes if it is not already on the system, or if it is, update to the latest software.
    2.  Plug your iPod into one of the USB ports.
    3.  Open iTunes if it does not open itself.
    4.  Select your iPod from the menu on the left and you should get a message that iTunes cannot read the iPod. Simply close that box.  If you get a message that syncing your iPod will erase all content then decline the sync.
    5.  Open Computer and you should see your iPod as an external hard drive.
    6.  Open it and you will see some folders and a few files.  The folders will likely look like they are a washed-out yellow instead of a deep yellow like you're accustomed to seeing.  That threw me initially because as I was looking for the folder with @ 139GB, it was not there.  Right click each folder, go to Properties and check the "Show hidden files" in the View menu.  After that, the folders will appear dark yellow and as you hover over each one, you will see one that will have the full amount of data that was on your iPod before the mess started. Open that folder and you will see a bunch of other folders with strange names, like F00, F01 etc. etc. Do the Edit, Select All, right click and in Properties, View menu, check the Show Hidden Files again.  All the folders that were that light yellow color will now turn deep yellow.  Be sure to select show hidden files not only for the folder but all sub folders and files box that will come up....forgot to mention that earlier.  Now all your folders and the files in them will be readable by iTunes.
    7.  The folders will all still be selected.  If not, select them and then do either a copy/paste into iTunes Music Library or drag them over into that pane.  The process will begin and likely take quite a while.  In my case, several hours.  When it is done, you will see all your music in iTunes along with the album art if you had any.
    8.  Now you will need to sync your iPod to that library, but before you do, you will need to Restore it.  Simply select it from the left menu and click on the Restore iPod option.  That will only take a few minutes and it will wipe your iPod clean.  Before you do that, it is a good idea to MAKE SURE YOUR MUSIC IS ALL THERE!!!  I also went to about a half dozen of the albums and tried playing a few songs just to be double sure.  Proceed with the Restore, and when it is complete change the iPod name that will be in the small box on the same page as the Restore option and likely be something like"karens iPod" (whoever the computer belongs to will be the name there) to exactly what your iPod is called on your iTunes on your computer that it was originally synced to.  I found that before I did this, it would not sync.
    9.  When you hit Sync, be patient because it took a minute or so before it actually began to sync.  Then, it will be another few hours if you have as much music as I did for the sync to complete and depending on the speed of the computer you're using.
That's how I got all my music back and I am now a happy camper/listener again.,
I called Apple support and they were absolutely no help.  Just told me I would have to re-sync to my iTunes even though I kept telling them that was 1,650 miles away at my house and not going to be possible.  I even asked if the above process would work and they said they didn't know but "You could try it....." :-(  At that time, I didn't have access to a computer with enough hard disc space on it yet so I called the Apple store in Louisville, KY which was 65 miles from where I was hoping that they might be able to help.  After 2 calls and getting hung up in the same loop of menus that left me on hold for over 20 minutes long distance, I gave up and concluded that Apple and Support are two mutually exclusive terms and have no relationship to one another. This has been quite a nightmare, and if anything good has come of it aside from having my music back, it might be the learning process but I really feel that is a rather small reward for the time spent!
Not likely to be an Apple fan when considering my next purchase of home computer, laptop, nor the phone I am preparing to buy.
    Hope this has helped someone.

  • ZEN VISION:M Multiple Artist Directories/Album Art Issues/e

I recently bought a Zen Vision:M (got talked out of the IPod) and for the most part I'm very happy with it. However these two small issues are so irritating that they make me want to get rid of it.
Firstly a few artists on my player have multiple directories/folders. Some have two, some have as many as fi've. I am extremely particular about my music so I know that they are properly tagged and the artist name matches exactly. It only does this with when I add media with the zen media explorer, however if I use any other program to add files, such as windows media (don't tell anyone that I used that terrible excuse for a media player!) or MusicMatch (my preferred choice), my album art won't display. I find this interesting, and extremely irritating, considering I used MusicMatch to tag the art to the files). I can only get the art to display using the zen media explorer.
Also is there a way to have the zen organize tracks by name and not into album directories? I refuse to believe that I am the only one who listens to my music by track title as opposed to album title, otherwise I'd just pop the cd in!!! And what is the deal with playing one track plays the whole album? I have to add track to playlist just so it doesn't throw all the songs in there.

Windows Media Player does not write the album art to the ID3 tag of the mp3 file. It keeps the image file separated from the mp3 and makes a link to it.
You need something that can write the image file to the mp3 file itself. Zen Explorer can do this.
As for the multiple artist names showing up. I've never seen that before, and I feel like I need more details. Do the Artist names show up under the Artist Catagory view or the Album catagory view? And I misundertood if you were trying to say this only happens when you transfer music using the Zen Explorer and not Media Playper or MusicMatch since you changed subjects midway through the sentence.
But in a general sense, this would happen if you are spelling the two directories differently. Like for example Tom Jones, Tom Jone, or ( )Tom Jones. the ( ) means theres a space in front of the T. Those would all show up under different album names.Message Edited by TimT on 07-0-2006 2:04 PM

  • IPod Classic having strange issues

My 80 Gig iPod Classic is having the following issues:
1.) It appears empty when I search for songs using the wheel.
2.) It shows on my desktop as "Unknown" and is ejectable when I drag it to the trash.
3.) When I put it into disk mode, clicking the mounted disk on my desktop shows pictures and about 150 songs that are unchangeable (i.e., I tried deleting stuff and I was given error code 61.)
4.) I can reset it using Menu+Select, and I can also put it into disk mode.
5.) When plugged in to my computer it displays "connected, eject before disconnecting."
6.) When I eject it (by using the trash bin) it displays "ok to disconnect" - but it immediately resets, the Apple logo comes on, and it asks me to select a language preference.
7.) When it's first plugged in, iTunes will open and the Apple logo at the top of the screen will flash quickly, but the device does not show on the left hand side of the screen.
    And the biggest problem...
8.) It is not recognized by iTunes - therefore I can't figure out how to restore it.
I have 8 other kinds of iPods/iPhones, all of them are recognized by iTunes (version 9.1) using my MacBook Pro, using 3 different USB ports. I've restarted iTunes, my computer, everything, and I still cannot get the device to show in iTunes.
Any suggestions to get this going?

  • IPod classic album artwork showing in iTunes no longer in Ipod

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod classic and until today, my album artwork always would show in iTunes and iPod Classic.  The artwork is now no longer showing in my iPod and the "get info" tab is not available for me in iTunes.
I tried ticking off the artwork in my iPod, syncing, then ticking again the artwork and albums, then syncing again and still to no avail.  Please help, I would be grateful if someone could give me a solution

Restoring is the function in iTunes that wipes a device, reloads the firmware and then lets you put back content. Yes, it deletes the media from the device but that should all be in your library, which in turn should be backed up. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device and Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy if it isn't.

  • Album Art Issue

My album art works for almost every album I have (except that I have album art on every album, so it shouldn't be an almost!).
I've realized that the album art won't show on albums/artists that have a music video of the same album/artist... so I gave the music videos the proper artwork. However that didn't solve the problem.
I don't know how anyone would suggest fixing this, but it hasn't seemed to be an issue for anyone that I've noticed. I hope someone at apple reads this forum, but I'm sending them a technical support email anyway. I hope this issue can be cleared up in an update sometime soon.

Are you sure the Album Art is included on every song on that album?
The art is stored with every song not per album.
Do a Get Info on the first song n an album an click Next while viewing the artwork to scroll thru all the songs on that album.
