IPod Classic Album Issue

Hello,
I recently purchased an iPod Classic from a local retailer.  Everything about it works great except for one thing that is really anoying.
I have a full album by a band that I purchased on iTunes a couple of years ago.  For some reason I can't get the album to properly sync with my iPod.  What it shows is 6 songs in one album and 22 in another and there is a total of 28 songs on the album.  I've completely checked line by line in the "Get Info" section to make sure all the artist name and album information and track information matched up like it should.  I've even checked for odd occurences in the title like an upper case versus a lower case character.  No such luck to be found.  I've also tried to completely remove the album from iTunes by moving the files to the trash, re-syncing my iPod to remove the files then taking the files out of the trash and placing them back into iTunes.  I then sync the iPod again and it still shows up the same way!  I'm out of ideas here and have spent literally a couple hours trying to figure this one out and have had no luck.  The odd thing is when you click on either album cover it lists all the songs in the album even though it says 6 for one album cover and 22 for another both have the full 28 track listing.
Very odd.
Please help me if you can!

Since you seem to have checked alll the other possibilities, it may be an extra "space" character at the end of some text and they are very hard to spot.
One thing you could try; use the artist name (since it sounds as though that's the field that causing the problem) and copy it from one of the songs and then paste it into every other song on the album. By using copy and paste, you know that the same information is now on every track (for that field).
You obviously need to Sync that change to the iPod (I guess you knew that... but for the benefit of anyone else reading this).
Does that fix it?

  • IPod Classic Album Art Issues

I see people have been having issues with album art but I think mine's different
I have the 160G iPod classic, the current iTunes for Windows & iPod software
My problem is that with the rectangular cover art I use, my iPod will not resize it to fit the thumbnail screen at the corner of my iPod (like it does for the square ones--like CD covers)
Is there a way to get iTunes/iPod to resize the cover art to fit the screen?
Size I don't think is an issue, since the square ones are not very small (500x500 or 600x600. etc.)
    Any thoughts?

What you see is what you get. There are no hidden commands to get the iPod treat regular images as square. If it matters enough then you probably need to copy the images out to a picture editor like paint.net, change the aspect ratio and paste them back. At least that's what I do...

  • IPod Classic: Photos Issue: Photos on iPod Show Black Screen - Replicated!

Issue / My Solution related to format = PC / Windows
*FINALLY! I've replicated the issue where some random pictures in iPod photos show as a thumbnail, DON'T show when clicked with center button (instead a nice friendly black screen is shown) but DO show when you click the center button again to start Slide Show.*
Firstly, I'll start by saying that this was one of 4-5 issues that caused me to go to my local Apple store today & get my SECOND replacement (3rd iPod Classic; Black; 160 GB). It made me laugh when the technicians told me the truth; since Apple never preps even their own people for new products to possibly get trained on so that maybe they're more technically knowledgeable then their consumers when they go on sale, this store's approach has typically been 'Problem with a 6th Generation? Here's a new one'.
It's been a quick & easy way to satisfy customers while getting them no where, but they go home thinking their new unit will work, when in reality it was never a hardware issue.
Anyways, I exchanged 2 x 160 GB & 1 x 80 GB tonight for many of the same reasons, truthfully because I felt I'm due new units after the amount of times I've reimaged (restored) each by restoring all versions of the firmware software.
Many of you have experienced the photo issue I mentioned above before going off on my tangent, many of you may not have (yet).
Well, I'm 1,000% that I replicated this one:
*When restoring one of the iPods replaced, I conveniently noticed that the pictures which showed up blank on my iPod had illegal characters in their Windows Filenames.*
*These characters can include, but are not limited to:*
    *apostrophe ('); comma (,); period (.)*
*Again, the characters above are the only ones I've identified so far; granted that it should not ultimately be like this; the iPod should accept filenames containing these characters & if it can't or it's too hard for it to accept them, iTunes should display a warning to the end user to change the filenames with illegal characters.*
In conclusion, I'm about to unwrap my new 160 GB & sync it. I will avoid & hold off with the 1.0.2 update for as long as possible in hopes that a 1.0.3 comes out soon; especially since the only noticeable difference it made for me was a faster & more responsive & sturdy Cover Flow (don't even use anyways) + shuts off in my JBL Dock at work (replicated as a bug in 1.0.2; workaround: use PLAY, PAUSE & other controls on the unit itself, not with the dock or remote control on the dock.)
I learned my lesson the hard way & will definitely wait a few days until 1.0.3 is released to see how it really is by feedback posted here in this forum. For all you newbies, this is the best advice I can offer; don't bank on 1 or 2 posts, read a bunch. When you start seeing a pattern of problems, you know something can't be right. It's funny how you look at the post history of these updates (1.0.1 & 1.0.2 & you see all those who jumped to install post only the nicest things & the great enhancements they see, until a day later they're hit with the negatives of that build.
_*+--> Truth is,_ I can't believe Apple has gotten away without releasing 1.0.3 by now.+*
*+If this keeps up, I hate to say it, but their ratings will definitely go down the tubes (not being negative, just a realist).+*
    Any thoughts?

I don't think it's illegal file names. I've noticed that the file takes a while to "load" even when after you see the thumbnail in the main screen. A few back and forths and hearing the hard drive spinning finally confirmed that it would take a while for the pic to show up...extremely annoying, but a hard drive type issue methinks. Photos that show up once, don't show up again or take forever to do so and vice versa.
Not sure how this affects firmware as I'm not techy (I'm jazzy :)).
I'm going to let all my photos "fully load", and then try it again.
    I tried your method on 3 sixth generations with this issue (2 x 80gb & 1 x 160gb). I let them sit for 12 minutes; no picture.
Changed filename to remove a comma found in the names; then I sync it again & ALL BETTER.

  • IPod Classic album artwork gone in new iTunes display board as of 1 Dec 2012

Now that I installed the new iTunes software and connect my iPod Classic the album artwork display in the bottom left corner has disappeared! There are other new features on this new iTunes layout that annoy me!
Apple...please go back to your previous iTunes layout and get my album artwork back.
My iPod is fine, there is nothing wrong with my iPod, just iTunes and their ridiculous change! I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes to no avail.
And NO, I DO NOT use the apple iTunes store for anything, just use iTunes to connect to my iPod Classic, that's all, nothing further!
So don't go trying to sell me something on the iTunes store! NOT INTERESTED!
Why do you people tend to make things more difficult after I finally figured out your last iTunes layout?!
Simple guy non-computer geek here, just your average all-American Joe!
Can someone out there assist? Any way I can return to the previous version? This new version bites! Thanks much!

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough. iTunes store art seems to be generally 600x600.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • IPod classic album artwork showing in iTunes no longer in Ipod

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod classic and until today, my album artwork always would show in iTunes and iPod Classic.  The artwork is now no longer showing in my iPod and the "get info" tab is not available for me in iTunes.
I tried ticking off the artwork in my iPod, syncing, then ticking again the artwork and albums, then syncing again and still to no avail.  Please help, I would be grateful if someone could give me a solution

Restoring is the function in iTunes that wipes a device, reloads the firmware and then lets you put back content. Yes, it deletes the media from the device but that should all be in your library, which in turn should be backed up. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device and Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy if it isn't.

  • IPod Classic Album listing view

I recently bought iPod Classic touch 80 GB. In the iPod, when I go to Albums, it lists out everything but under every album name, it lists out Composer/Artist name. If there no names available, it puts Unknown there. Due to this extra line of information, the number of albums listed for each view is very limited. Can anyone help how do I disable the display of Composer/Artist information and just list the albums name? Thanks for all the help.

You can't change that, in Album view the Classic will display the Artist name under the Album, along with a thumbnail of the artwork (if available).

  • Ipod Classic Installation Issue

I have an Ipod Classic (30 GB).  I recently installed software"Ipod Updater 2005-10-12" into a new PC.  After I installed it, it asked if "I wanted to allow an unknown publisher to make changes in my computer (ipod updater 2005-10-12.exe)"  After I accepted, it showed a message stating that I had an "invalid ipod service version."  Is this normal?
In any case, after I plugged in my ipod to the new computer, the screen opened.  Some of the toolbar selections looked a little different from the past.  In the screen tab called "Music," I noticed that it didn't show the name/playlist/genre/albums of the CD artists from the past that I saved in my ipod in the past.  Does this mean that I have to transfer the old song files from my old computer to the new computer?  If so, could you please explain the process?  Please help!
Note:  I saved songs from a new CD in my computer and checked sync music.  However, it gave a message stating that it would delete the old music from the past.  I did not go through with the process as I was afraid to delete all the songs in my Ipod.

I spoke to support and they told me to return it, I got a new one and it has the same problem. However it works fine with my friends pc. It must be something to do with some xp machines.
It wont install the "apple ipod usb" driver or even a generic usb mass storage device driver....
    Any ideas?

  • Ipod classic album art work

Hello some of my albums in the coverflow on my ipod classic are in the wrong order for example the strokes, the doves and others are at the end of the coverflow in the ipod classic. please help me?

If your iPod is set to update automatically give this a try , it can often sort out wrong artwork problems:
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes (Right click on the iPod icon and choose Sync from the menu)
    4. Re-enable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.

  • Ipod classic syncing issues with itunes

My IPod classic wont sync anymore and I fear the harddrive might be shot. the ipod deleted all my music randomly, I have restored it but now I cant get it to sync properly with itunes.
Itunes recognises it, and starts syncing (in manual and auto) however it freezes a few songs in and doesnt get any further. When I unplug the ipod, the error message comes up saying ipod sync failed, and lists a number of songs which it could not sync (different songs every time)
Is the problem with itunes or with the ipod harddrive?
Appriciate any help with this one,
    thanks,
    Phil

  • The Very FIrst iPod Classic - Having Issues

So, my brother's iPod keeled over and I told him I'd see what I can do. It's one of the very first iPod classics. They don't even sell these anymore. It's a 20GB metal design from 2004. I figure it's just fried, but I still wanna try. I don't think it died until recently, which is a shame. Even charging for a whole 48 hours, it wont turn on. I've tried resetting it numerous times.
Anyone wanna try and help? Any advice is appreciated.
NOTE: I do realise this is probably pointless since it's so old. I don't expect to fix it. It'd just be cool if I did.

It sounds like a third gen iPod. Does it have four buttons in a horizontal row with a circular wheel below? All of these buttons and the wheel touch sensitive? If so, it's a third gen. If it has a clickwheel and it's 2004, it's a fourth gen.
Sounds like the battery's gone. Just replace it yourself. It's like $30 with a DIY kit.

  • Newly-purchased iPod classic - Notes issues

I just bought my iPod classic 160GB awhile ago and now that I want to put notes on it, the ENABLE DISK USE is not even available for a check box option. What to do? I need to put my work-out plan here.

How big are these files and do you use Windows?
If you use your iPod as a disk with a Windows PC, bear in mind that the FAT32 file system can only accommodate files that are smaller than 4GB. No matter how much free space there is on your iPod, you can't copy files that are larger than that.
Also worth bearing in mind is that the iPod is not reliable enough to use it as a long term storage device, and these forums are littered with posts from people who decided to use it as such and ended up losing all their data.

  • 120GB iPod Classic space issues.....

    Hey all,
One of the main reasons I purchased an iPod Classic was that I could store all my large files safely on it. With that, I cannot put any files (outside of media from iTunes) on it, even though iTunes says it has 81.77GB free space. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • IPod Classic connection issue

Just bought the 80 gig Classic and have already had issues. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1243711. Finally got this resolved and synched the iPod to iTunes. Now, I can't get the d**n thing to connect again. The screen says CONNECTING Do Not Disconnect, then switches to EJECTING You May Disconnect. This thing is aggravating the crap out of me. With my older Zen Vision M, I installed the software, hooked up the device and away we went. I bought the iPod because I figured it was the best. Apparently I was way wrong! No support except for this discussion group (Oh, aside from the ONE call you can make!! Gee, which issue do I use my call for!) Anyway, I've searched and can't find reference to this issue, so does anyone have any ideas? If I can't get this resolved soon, it's going back to Best Buy and Apple ain't getting a good grade from me. Thanks for any help. BTW, it's iTunes v 7.5.

I'm having this exact same problem -- in fact I cannot connect at all -- it says "connected" then immediately disconnects itself. Interestingly for me too not allowing the cable to click in also seems to do the trick.
Definitely seems to be some sort of cable mating issue. Changing cables doesn't do the trick either...
