Ipod classic always has to restore, then doesn't sync

Hello,
my ipod's problem is the following. Whenever I connect it to itunes it comes up saying itunes has found a damaged ipod and it need to be restored, so then I restore, because I have no other option. After this, I press sync and it starts syncing the whole library back normally, but when it reaches around the last 100 tracks it starts to go very slow and eventually freezes completely. after a while of being like this an error message comes up saying itunes was unable to sync.
I've tried to sync manually and it does exactly the same thing.
I was thinking maybe it's the hardrive, maybe it needs a new one.
Has anyone went through this before? Or anyone know how to solve it?
I would be veru grateful.
cheers

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.
If there are any other USB devices connected to the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) remvoe them and reboot your PC. Then reconnect your iPod with iTunes.

  • My iPod Classic 160GB has lost all its music and won't sync or restore

My iPOD Classic 160GB has spontaneously lost all its music - approx. 5000 songs. One minute they were all there, now they're all gone - display says "No Music" although memory still shows 23GB in use? I tried to re-sync on iTunes but the iPod won't sync (error 1415) or restore (error 1439). As things currently stand,my iPod is just a very expensive paperweight - please can anybody help with this?

    hi lindsay
i understand you have all your music still in your itunes library?
Try the basic resetting of your ipod, also try another usb port.
Have you tried ,when ipod is connected, click on your ipods name, for example lindsays ipod, another window should open up and you can see  summary, click on the sync box ,bottom right hand corner, see if this helps.
Or you could ,when you have itunes open, click for updates.
    hope this may help you
    thanks madforit

Transfer all of your content to the computer:
Tunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Then try turning the device off and on again. I'd leave it off for 10-15 minutes, but that is up to you:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If the item is still there, you may need to restore the device:

Hope that helps . Worst case scenario, you may need to write into iTunes support to see if they can also help!!

  • My ipod classic 160gb has frozen. Any ideas how to un-freeze

My ipod classic 160gb has frozen. Can anyone help me to un-freeze it?

    alan,
Try a hard reset.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may take one or two tries.
Otherwise, it might be necessary to let the iPod's battery fully drain.

    Hello adifromba
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode to force a restore within iTunes to get it to show up. The steps to do that are within the first article below, I have also provided a second article for further troubleshooting if it continues to not show up.

Following two changes to my computer it is only my iPod classic which has my full library of tunes on it - how can I transfer these back to the computer?

    Hello, Ray.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple options available to you to transfer purchased media to your computer.  Below, I have included a couple articles that outline this process.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
Please note that this feature works only for items that were purchased on the iTunes Store. Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your iPod to the iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How can I export files from my ipod classic and reset it without losing content and syncing it to a new library?

I'm trying to export the files that exist on an ipod classic. It belongs to my girlfriend, and she doesn't want to lose any of the music on it. But she wants to sync to a new PC and not lose the content. So, I want to export all the files and then place those files plus start a new itunes library with it. If I were to sync to my PC, would it erase all of the existing data? Can I buy/download a program that would allow me to upload all of the existing content on her ipod classic to my PC and then take that and place it back on by syncing it through her new laptop and adding the exported files....?

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Did you go into iTunes to change the location of your media files? if not you will need to go into iTunes and click on preference and select the advance tab then click the iTunes Media folder location.  Select the location of your on external hard drive.

  • New ipod classic is has been stuck in restore mode (160 gb) version

Hello, i have 160 gb  ipod classic which is old about 7 days and im using Windows7 to transfer my songs. When i syncing songs and ipod was about 2/3 full it has begun to transfer songs very, very slow.. Then i tried to reconnect it but both itunes and ipod report that it was corrupted and after restarting ipod it shows that has 0 songs instead 10000+.. tried to put it in disk mode to save libaries, but it would not let me do that.. Then i restore it and it was successful and fast.. Later i have began to sync it again and when i have transferred about 2500 songs it have begun to slow-sync again.. I have waited to finish syncing and restarted my pc.. After it was completed ipod was not visible in "my computer", neither in itunes but i could play songs with no lagging in shuffle mode.. I left it connected for maybe 15 minutes and it appears in windows  which asked me to do disk check  what i accepted to do and waited about 4 hours or more to complete it but without any errors.. Then i tried to shuffle songs  and it was very fast but it was still invisible in my computer.. Apparantely, after 20 or so minutes connected to pc it shows up in itunes and says it was corruped and then i did restore again but it was very, very slow (it was fast to half bar but other half needed about 1 hour to complete) and when it was done it was still invisible to computer and ipod says that i have 80 gb used and other is free.. I have left it again some time connected to pc, and this time i tried to format hdd with windows uttility in both NTFS and exFat file system and after i done it and reconect to pc it shows up immediately and i could transfer files like i do on any external hdd but when i tried to restore it in itunes i am waiting for maybe an hour to complete but  after it has been done, it again shows me to my ipod is corrupted..
I tried several times with varius formats and files system and still nothing... Sound of hdd is good, like it was before this issues.. In "device manager" and "devices and printers" it shows up right after i plug it in everything it seems to be ok but it is invisible in "my computer" and itunes for long time.. When it shows up, its offten unresponsive and to get it to restore i have to replug it few times.. Sorry for long post but it is detailed as much as my english let me describe it (its obvious that it isnt my main language)..
I would be very grateful if someone can help me :-/ Thanks in advance!

i forget to mention that i tried to sync it on other computer and same issues occurred..

  • ITunes can't recognize iPod classic. Says to restore factory settings. Did. iTunes still doesn't recognize. Lost music on iPod.

I restored my ipod after it said to. Then i put all my music back onto it. THEN, later i tried to sync it again and i got the same error message. Only THIS TIME (now get this) i ejected it WITHOUT restoring it, and everything was erased. Completely blank iPod after ejecting it. Like i said this time i DID NOT restore it. It erased it all on its own. What do I do?

  • Trying to restore ipod classic. Mounts as HD, itunes doesn't see it.

How can I restore my ipod if itunes can't see it? Any ideas?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the same problem. Yesterday I connected my iPod Touch to my PC and iTunes prompted me to update the ipod's software to 1.1.2 (I think thats the new one?), I accepted and it proceded to download it. When it finished downloading it tried to update the software but for some reason it failed. An error message came up saying that the ipod will have to be restored. I went ahead and tried to restore it, it gave an option for restore and update, that didn't work. My iPod won't even turn on now, it just shows the iTunes icon and the USB cable. When I connect to my PC iTunes says its in recovery mode and the software tries to do the update, the iPod screen shows the Apple logo and the updating icon, the screen goes blank and the process starts again, after a couple of attempts an error message appears on screen saying an error occurred and gives an error code of 1611 (or something like that).
Holding down sleep and home together doesn't do anything.
What is up with it? I've tried the same thing in my girlfriend macbook and the exact same error happened.

  • IPod classic battery has suddenly started draining in ~6 hours while turned off

    Hi all...would love your advice!
I have a 6th or 7th gen iPod Classic (120gb) for 3 years now and it has been wonderful...until a few weeks ago. Whilst travelling overseas I started connecting my iPod to the stereo system (pioneer I think) of the rental car I was using, and all played fine, but after I disconnected it I and tried to use it the next day I discovered that the battery had drained to zero. I continued to use it for the next couple of weeks like this, each time trying something different after disconnecting to turn the battery off to see if it would not drain, but it always did...usually gradual and taking roughly 5 or 6 hours. (Normally I just turn it off by holding the play button). I played around with the Hold lock, but that change anything help.
So after coming home I hoped I would be able to get it back on my macbook with my iTunes with all the advice of support communities and get it working again. But there doesnt seem to be any recent topics on this with iPods which have been useful that I could find (some old ones where firmware updates resolved the problem). So...I have tried Apple Support's 5 steps to resolve generic problems, but to no avail. The software is apparently all up to date...both on my iTunes and my iPod (2.0.1). I restored the iPod and then replaced my music on it, then tried it again, but no luck. I then did it again and only put back on one album only (to see if perhaps it was a corrupt file triggering it) and tried again, but the problem persists. I have checked settings - backlight is set at 5 seconds and it has no problem going off. Alarm is not on. Nothing else seems to be unusual. I dont think it was ever was left in extreme conditions (certainly not recently, the weather was mild where I was). So I really cant figure it out. One thing that seemed to happen at the same time was that connecting to this car system seemed trigger the song shuffle function and it would always start playing the same random selection of songs. People talk about being able to hear the hard drive still spinning, but honestly I cant hear it while it is off or on.
So my best guess is that the stereo system triggered some kind of malfunction which makes the hard drive remain constantly spinning and therefore quickly drains the battery. But I have no idea what to do about it! Any ideas, I would be so very grateful! :-)

I would look at several things. I'm assuming it shows fully charged after you charge it and that this is a new iphone and not used. Check your location services under Privacy: Location Services for apps that use your location. If you have apps always checking your location it can use power. Turn off any you don't really need. You can always turn them back on.
Check you wifi settings. Turn off the " Ask to join other Networks". If you are driving down the road it will be looking for other networks to join.
Turn off any apps running in the background that are not needed.
Restart your iPhone after you have done this. Hopefully this will improve your battery usage.
