Ipod classic and connecting to my TV

Hi, I'm really confused as to what cable I need, to connect my Ipod Classic to television, either via component video etc. I have a belkin cable I had with my previous ipod and it worked fine with that - but not this one!

The cable you use is dependent on the connections available on your TV.

I recently connected my new ipad to my itunes, but now itunes will not recognise my ipod classic, and 50gig of music has gone. ipad connects ok but no longer ipod which has been there for two years! help!!!

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

  • I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format"

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • Ipod classic not connecting (not even showing 'do not disconnect' on Ipod)

Help! I have an ipod classic and, since I upgraded to itunes 9, I have noticed that, all of a sudden, my ipod won't connect at all.
When I connect the USB cable to the ipod, the screen lights up but does not start charging nor does it show 'do not disconnect', and the ipod is obviously not recognised by Itunes. I have tested the same USB port on my printer with no problems, so it doesn't seem to be the port. I have also tried downgrading to itunes 8 with no problems. I have tested the cable and ipod on another computer and it worked fine. I am basically all out of ideas as to how to fix it.
When I restart the computer with the ipod plugged in, the ipod briefly starts charging and shows 'do not disconnect' before disappearing after a few seconds. It is a total mystery to me.
Does anyone have any ideas whatsoever? I am getting desperate!!!

I have the same problem as you describe it. My iPod Classic 160GB freezes up when I plug the apple usb cable into the iPod. I am using Windows 7 64bit, and iTunes v9.0.2.25 64bit for Windows Vista & Windows 7. Firmware 2.0.3 PC. And I do not have this problem with my iPod Classic 80GB.
This is the workaround to the problem: Reset your iPod. You need to hold down the center button and MENU button TOGETHER, and wait for the iPod to start resetting. Then release the buttons. When the Reset completes, it should start synchronizing normally.

  • Why does my iPod Classic keep connecting THEN disconnecting immediately?

Here's the deal, I bought my iPod Classic used, and is the 160GB version in "space gray".
I connect my iPod Classic, and immediately it disconnects itself right away(!!). I would have searched a question, but let's face it, all the other info is now out-dated. So please, help!

  • IPod Classic and the new software upgrade

I've had my 80GB iPod Classic since December. I loaded it up with all my music and hadn't plugged it back into my computer until a couple days ago. I got a notice to update my iPod software so I did and it came back that it couldn't because there was an unknown error. Not only that but after I ejected it from there I wasn't able to restore it automatically) all my music was gone. A couple days have past since then and I've not gotten around to restoring it, which it suggested. It told me it would be reappear in the iTunes window when it was done. Since then it hasn't shown up and I've been prompted twice to restore. Has anyone else had this problem?? Can someone help me out?? It's now nothing but a blackish-grey screen with the apple icon. It's not even registering on my computer......

I've tried all afternoon to get it fixed and I think I finally found the answer. To all of those 80GB iPod owners having problems with the reset please try this, it worked for me!
iPod Classic keeps Continuously resetting at Apple Logo

Okay, I have sent in my iPod Classic, and let me just say its AWESOME! Okay first I found that other people were having a problem with the NEWEST iPod Continuously resetting at Apple Logo. There is a 10 step process in getting the help you need, follow these instructions:
*I got these from Jimmy_Dean, thanks bud...*
10 Simple Steps To Fix Your iPod That Is Stuck In A Continuous Reset Loop:
    1) While the iPod was resetting itself over and over (continuously resetting itself), press the Play/Pause button and the center select button simultaneously, for about 5 seconds, and it will display that it is now in disk mode.
    2) Start up iTunes on your computer and then connect the iPod to your computer with the USB cable.
    3) Click on the iPod in the left pane, select "Restore" to restore it to its original blank state. Follow the prompts to continue.
    4) When the computer completes the Restore update, and it displays a message saying that the iPod will disappear and reappear in iTunes in a minute, immediately disconnect the iPod (unplug it from your USB cable).
    5) On the iPod, you should see the main menu, in a few seconds. Pick a couple of settings to update for example the English language, and Eastern Time Zone (New York or Washington, DC), etc.
    6) Press and hold the Play/Pause button to power the iPod off.
    7) Re-connect the iPod to your comptuer with the USB cable.
    8) Start syncing using iTunes, as normal.
    9) All should be well.
    10) Remember to always click on Eject in iTunes, and waiting for visual confirmation, before disconnecting the iPod.

This site brings you to a step by step process in getting your iPod fixed. Its very hands on, and the day I requested a repair or a replacement, they sent me a box. I got it in less that 1 day! Mind you that was the 4th of March when I requested the box. I got it the 5th of March, and I sent it in that same day with NO CHARGE! Apple pays for it if you have the warranty, if your iPod is in the first 180 days of purchase (they can tell), everything is free unless its obvious that you dropped it or something like that. Anyways, I got an email toay (March 6th), that says that they have recieved the product and are diagnosing it. Thats really fast, mind you! Well, I am now waiting for that, and then they will let me know if they can fix it or have to replace it. In that case, I will NOT BE CHARGE A PENNY for the services, they told me the process is really fast and I will get my iPod back in a few weeks at most.
So a total of 2 weeks for everything at most FOR FREE, thats a deal!
I live in a city that DOESNT have an Apple store in it (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and I am on tour ALL the time with bands, and I am just lucky everything is coming together fast and smooth!
If your city has an Apple store, you can check here:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
You can bring it to them and they will tell you if they have to replace it or fix it, if you can get a NEW iPod for free TAKE IT there and then. You will save time and effort!
Let me know how this helped on this blog!!!
    Thanks everyone,

  • Possible iPod Classic and Oracle Netbeans/Java Issue

I recently lost all the music from my iPod Classic and was unable to restore from iTunes or reset to factory defaults. The iPod showed a large amount of disk usage but no music, video, photos, etc. and it took forever to connect to my Windows USB port. After battling this and trying tons of ideas on the net, the Apple Store had to reformat the device from a Mac and reset the drive. Today I just had the same issue and I think the issue was caused by Oracle Netbeans and/or Java being loaded to my desktop. Both times I had this issue was after downloading Oracle NetBeans for a development tool. Has anyone else seen this issue?

    1. How likely is it that Apple will fix this issue with future firmware releases?
No-one here could even hazard a guess. We're just users like yourself. Do Philips claim this DVD player is compatible? Isn't it the responsibility of the makers of the DVD player to ensure it works with the Classic?
    2. Are other 3rd party devices (i.e. Docks, Automobiles, etc.) affected by this firmware release?
Yes. Almost all older 3rd party accessories don't work with the Classic. There have been many posts about such issues both here and other iPod forums.
    3. Is there any way to go back to firmware release 1.0.2? I know backing off firmware releases is possible with the iPhone.
This may be of help but you have to have the previous version still on your computer.
Remove the latest update from the iTunes/iPod updates folder.
In Windows XP but I think it's found in "Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates."
Then prevent iTunes from checking the internet for a new update (preferences/general and remove the check mark from "check for updates automatically), then click restore. Or simply disconnect your modem from the computer.
    Then restore the iPod.
You should then be asked if you want to use the previous version of the iPod software.

  • PC crashes when ipod classic 160GB connected

I have just bought a brand new ipod classic and I haven't been able to do anything because as soon as I plug it in my PC shuts down (no error message). I am using Windows XP home edition, service pack 3.

This sounds like you may want to re-install Apple Mobile Devices at the very least.
First, try disconnecting all USB stuff except for your keyboard and mouse. Then connect the iPod and see what happens. Your iPod may be conflicting with some other USB device. Also, if you are using a USB hub, do not connect the iPod through the hub. Connect the iPod directly to the system.
Here is an article to help you reinstall all the apple stuff in case the troubleshooting does not work:

  • ITunes immediately ejecting my two iPod Classics and my Ipod Nano (6gen)

ITunes ejects my two iPod Classics and my iPod nano (6th gen). All synced fine a few days ago, never had any problems. None of them are used as disks. If I uninstall iTunes, they will mount and I can see all three of them in Disk Utility. Verify Disk ➔ no problems. If I open iTunes, all three are disconnected by iTunes before they show up in the program. And they are ejected by Disk Utility such that the Mac no longer sees them.
IPhone 5 on the latest software, iPhone 6+ and iPad 3 all sync just fine.
Tried deleting all the com. preferences, etc. Uninstalling and re-installed iTunes twice, trashed SyncServices file, no resolution. Seems to me it's something to do with iTunesHelper refusing the connection between the iPods.
Running Yosemite 10.10.2, could be the update to the pre-release beta that did it. Or could be installing Last.fm Scrobbler, but that was completely eliminated, so I'm guessing it's the pre-release beta.
    Any suggestions?

The answer is rolling back to 10.10.1 from Time Machine. Doing that solved my problem.

Does the device show up in Windows Explorer when connected?
Have you tried going into Control Panel > Programs & Features > iTunes > Repair?
Have you proved the cable with a different device, or the device's connectivity with a different computer?

My iPod classic wont connect to the computer. The light comes on but it doesn't even come up with 'connected' screen on the ipod. Have tried different computers, usb cables and ports, as well as restarting computer, updating itunes, and rebooting ipod. Still works in Logitech iPod player, however it has just wiped itself of all songs so at the moment I'm stuck with a useless iPod. Any suggestions please???

If you happen to have a USB docking cable that is new (or close to being new), try using that one.  If the cause is the dock connector on the iPod becoming worn, if you try it with a cable that is not worn, it's possible that it may connect for data.
I believe the dock connector is internally part of the logic board, so it may not be economical to have a repair shop (including Apple Store Genius Bar) do the repair.  You'll need to ask for pricing.
If you are good at such things, this web site has DIY repair guides

If it's the most recent iPod classic, it appears to be quite difficult to pry open.  I have an older 4th gen (and 3rd gen) "classic" iPod, and those are fairly eash to pry open, using the plastic tools.
