I have looked at multiple websites; they all have the same instructions for putting your IPhone into recovery mode using ITunes.
My computer was not downloading ITunes before, but I recently made it work. I turned my phone off, held the home button, plugged in the phone to the computer with ITunes already up. The little USB cord and ITunes logo showed up. The instructions said that a popup would say that ITunes had 'detected and IPhone in recovery mode', and from there I would be able to reset my phone. However, the popup never happens. I have tried this several times, and it's the same: I see the USB cable and ITunes logo on my phone screen, and in the corner of ITunes, a picture comes up of a phone with a little 'X' next to it. I clicked on the phone, on the X, but nothing works. The popup just never shows. I am unable to reset my IPhone because of it. I have not found any other way for me to reset my phone, since I didn't activate Find My Phone or ICloud.
There is no icloud on an iphone 3, because you need IOS 5.0 or higher, the highest IOS is 4.2.1

  • Ipod Classic in disk mode does not show on desktop or finder

Ipod Classic in disk mode shows in Itunes but not on desktop or in finder? Can't add any files to it.

With the Finder as the front most application, choose Finder -> Preferences -> General and make sure there is a tick mark next to CDs, DVDs, and iPods, under the option Show these items on the desktop.
    Any luck there?

  • TS1372 I have iPod Classic in Disk Mode and when i connect it to my apple computer it does not appear in iTunes and the screen displays a message saying "Do not disconnect" with a circle with a line through it, flashing. What do I do now?

I have iPod Classic in Disk Mode and what do I do next cause it's not showing up in iTunes?

Does the iPod appear on your desktop as an external hard drive?  Has the iPod ever successfully connected before?  Disconnect your iPod and reset it using the Select (Center) and Menu button combo.  Then reboot your Mac, open iTunes, and reconnect your iPod to a high powered USB 2.0 port and see if it's recognized.
Have you worked through all the troubleshooting here?

  • IPod Classic Hard Disk Ruined

To whom this may concern -
I am a long time Mac user. I love Macs, and I may always. But I've run into a huge problem now. I purchased an iPod Classic for my boyfriend. He lives in Argentina. He was charging it, and it fell on the floor. Nothing was damaged on the outside, but when he turns it on there's a big X. He went to the website to try and reboot it, but it didn't work. Now he's gone to the Mac Store in Cordoba Argentina. They took it apart (for a fee), and told him that he needs to pay over $200 to get it fixed. It cost me $190 to buy it here... mind you. They said that the Hard Disk is ruined.
Here's my question. The iPod is still under warranty. SINCE, you people say you have the best customer service, (which you DO NOT indicate WHERE you have the best customer service), I was wondering if he sends me their report of his iPod, (including his serial number and things), I could get him his hard disk, and we replace it there. He cannot send me his iPod for less than $70. So sending it to me in the States is not an option.
I am very upset at Mac. I thought they were the best for service and products. But his iPod broke, just by falling once. AND they won't fix it for free for him in Argentina. This is frustrating. If you can get me a Hard Disk for his iPod (i can show you anything you want to see, their report, his serial number, whatever you want) my opinions of Mac will be much better.
Why isn't there customer support all around the world? I'm moving there soon... and I'm nervous about my computer breaking there and the expense it will be to fix it.
    Thank you for your help,
    Maureen

They do have the highest rated customer support and they are good at honoring the warranty, which covers manufacturing defects. But a warranty is not an insurance policy and does not cover accidental damage. And the number of accidents it has doesn't matter. If you buy a car and get into just one accident, good luck with having the dealer fix the damage under your warranty. Apparently the fall was far enough to crash the heads on the hard drive.
If you purchased it with a credit card you might see if the one you used has extended warranty/insurance coverage. Otherwise you are looking at repairing it by putting in a new hard disk.

  • ITunes won't recognize my iPod classic in disk mode.

I have a iPod classic that has the sad face. I read all the articles, and videos that show how to fix it, and all of them show that you need to force it into disk mode and plug it into your computer and restore it with iTunes. I can get it into disk mode fine, but when I plug it into my computer iTunes won't recognize it.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks for your help.

Is there any way to hard restore it, with out hooking it up to the computer.

  • Failing iPod Classic Hard Disk?

Last week, one of my podcasts couldn’t get past 3 minutes or so (of 30) before it would stall out, and then move on to the next podcast. The next day, after syncing new podcasts, all MP3 file versions of podcasts would not play from the iPod. Later that day, accessing the iPod (at work with windows 7) would take forever, probably because the OS was trying to rescan the disk.
When I got home and connected my iPod to my Mac, the disk wouldn’t mount, and iTunes would say it needed to be restored and all data would be lost. Not wanting to waste the gas to drive to work and back on the weekend, I tried just about every available I have to get the work files I needed- Data Rescue 3 would spin its wheels for 20+ minutes with no effect, disk utility didn’t get any results after 30 minutes, and my wife’s PC had the same issues reading the disk. I eventually got disk utility to ‘repair’ the disk and was able to get files off. Oddly, doing more than a few hundred MB transfer at a time would cause Finder to beach-ball until I made it quite the transfer.
After this, I wanted my iPod to function again, so I tried restoring it to factory settings. This didn’t work on either my Mac with iTunes or my wife’s PC, so I ended up erasing the disk with Disk Utility and reformatting in MS-Fat32 (so my work PC can read files off of it). My Mac was then able to restore the iPod software, but when trying to sync my media to it with iTunes (around 5k songs), it would fail part of the way through, asking for a restore. Resyncing would get more media on, but have similar ends. When trying to navigate songs on my iPod, it wouldn’t see any at all.
I eventually did a restore with my wife’s PC, to guarantee it had the windows file system version (for disk usage) and then synced it to my Mac. It only took 2 tries and over-night (6+ hours) to get all of my songs & podcasts to sync.
Now songs will play, and navigation works, but album art is not correct. Files that I know are MP3s, once again, will not play, not even for a few minutes as before. MP4’s that are from the same podcasts do play, so I don’t think it’s their media source. AAC’s work just fine. I didn’t move any M4V’s over to test b/c it was taking forever just to get songs to transfer, much less video.
Is this indicative of a hardware problem, or is something messed up on the software side? Can anyone suggest appropriate steps to fix these issues?

I've done repairs myself on older models (new batteries) and while it's delicate, it's not impossible. iFixit.com has step-by-step instructions on how to do this with my exact model, so there's no issue for me doing the actual work.
Buy a part from Apple? Ha! That won't be reasonably priced.
In any event, I had Disk Utility zero out the data on the drive last night, not just erase it, and iTunes reformat the disk. Now, knock on wood, it seems to be playing well. I haven't tried out a problematic podcast yet, or added any video, so we'll have to see. I also let my Mac format this to AFS, or whatever the "Apple Macintosh" file system actually is for an iPod instead of the FAT32 windows version I had been trying ealier. I'll need to move to the later to use this as a means to move work files about, but iDisk will suffice for the short-term.
I'm hoping the re-allocated sectors can avoid being used and go with the drive I have now. We'll see what happens when I toss video files back on here and work project files...

  • HT1363 iPod Classic and Disk Mode

I have a 5th generation iPod and I can't seem to get it to into disk mode. I've tried to complete the mentioned process on a flat surface and still no luck. I have a lot on my device and I'd love to be using it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!

Did you see the Apple logo, after 6 secs?
When you put it in Disk Mode, you are using it as a Portable Hardisk, so I can't get what you meant by this statement,
I have a lot on my device and I'd love to be using it.
In Diskmode, you cant play music or watch video or Podcast
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".

  • Ipod classic not allowing access to to music or pod casts - shows zero files in music and pod cast but used space shows 3/4 full it is recognized by itunes sometimes on my pc but unable to view content

ipod classic shows disk 3/4 full  but when i look in the folders  it shows zero for music and zero for podscasts. i can not access these folders on the ipod or when it does connect to my windows computer thru itunes.  it does not connect 90% of the time now.  i let it check the disk when it was connected to my pc which did not good  -  any other ideas?  other than restore?

Your iPod filesystem is corrupted, so your music and podcastr is in the Others, this is most likely caused by a slow USB connection, which timeout during sync.
    Try the Hard Reset first
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

Then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, in this earlier post by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help you decide if your iPod is dying and causing the timeouts.
    Have a nice day!

  • While restoring the factory settings on my 7th gen iPod classic, my computer blue-screened. Now, my iPod just keeps continually restarting and cannot be recognized by my computer or iTunes.

Is there a way I can make my iPod stop restarting and be recognized by my computer so I can continue to use it?

    Hello GraceSchaff
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode and then in iTunes click restore when it shows up to take care of that process again.

  • How can i transfer non purchased music from my iPod classic to iTunes?

Recently, my laptop died and geek squad was unable to extract files from hard drive. How do I transfer non purchased music (burned cd's) from my ipod classic to itunes on my new laptop? Apple customer support suggested I engage support communities to find out about 3rd party software (not apple) that can accomplish this. Does anyone know of where I can find such software? Please and thank you

Back when I had to do something like that, I used Copytrans, http://www.copytrans.net/. You might see if they are what you want.
At worst, you could open the ipod classic in disk mode, locate the music files, copy them to your hard disk (they won't have good names), and just add them to your library. You'll probably lose play counts and *s with that approach, but it should work.
