Ipod classic audio quality

The audio quality on new Ipod classic is not as good as audio quality directly from itunes on lap top which it was synced with. Is there a fix for this?

There is no definite answer for this, your hearing is unique to you.
The best thing to do is choose a few songs and put them on your iPod in all the different formats you are considering. Then listen to the same song in the different formats and see whether if like the lower bit rate version or if you must have the higher bit rate version.
Personally, I use (good quality) Bose on-ear headphones, a Bose speaker dock and a Klipsch speaker dock. Most of my songs are in 192kbps AAC, some are 256kbps and I don't hear the difference. But then, my age means that my hearing is no longer as acute as it was.
Since you have a 160GB iPod, if you have the room (that is, not too many songs), use the higher bit rate. I began using the higher bit rate when I realised I had the room.

  • IPod classic sound quality issues

    Hi guys,
I understand probably it's too much early to discuss this topic but anyway I try to ask.
In order to the release of the new model (yesterday's event in USA)of the classic, anybody has any news about the sound quality complaints arised in the previous months?
I mean, anybody knows if the quality sound problems, due to the change of the sound micro-chip, have been solved in the new modelMany thanks in advance for the help.

Excellent question, the answer to which I eagerly await. If the sound quality improves, I might purchase a 120GB, otherwise, there are now alternatives by competitors with 120GB capacity, similar form factors, built in FM radio, subscription music services, and wireless sync of the music library for the same price as Apple's 120GB. They don't have the sound stage issue as the 160GB Classic. There is even a 240GB model being offered by a competitor.
Too bad Apple didn't release a 240GB Ipod classic. Toshiba, Apple's hard drive manufacturer, announced a 240GB 1.8" drive on 9/9, coincident with the Apple Ipod announcements. I have a large and growing library of classical recordings as I explore the classical catalog, as well as many Podcasts. I could really use the space! I've input this request on Apple's Ipod feedback page and suggest that any like minded customers do the same.

  • Ipod Classic sound quality

i bought a ipod classic but the sound quality sound really ****** and the volume is 2 low APPLE I WANT MY MONEY BACK !!

    2 factors:
    1. are you importing tracks at 128 bit (or less)?
    2. are you using Apple earbuds or some other company?
Tracks at 128 or lower may sound tinny/am radio-ish.
Low-end earbuds may also sound "off"
128 bit is great for space conservation, especially on the smaller ipods (2-4gb), but the tradeoff is sound quality.
Since the classic has sufficient space, I would check iTunes prefs and reset track import quality to 256 or higher. Personally, I import at variable lossless. Typically runs between 950 and 1100 bit, which is close to CD quality.

  • New iPod Touch, audio quality really noisy.

I just recently purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation in white on Boxing Day. So far, I'm enjoying my product, however when I try to listen to music through any earbuds the quality of the audio becomes distorted and noisy. I've tried the earbuds on other devices and the audio quality was also poor. I've tried using different earbuds with the iPod and the quality remains poor. I think there has been a manufacturer flaw in the product.
Do I return to the store in which I purchased the iPod and demande for an exhange? And if I do, would it be exchanged at none of my expense?
    Thank you in advance.

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • Ipod Touch or iPod Classic Sound quality

    Hi
I am considering geting either an iPod Touch or iPod Classic and was wondering if there is any difference in sound quality between the two?
    Many thanks
    Ken

I looked at the tech spec and could find no differences.  I would not expect there to be much difference since mp3 are not that good anyway and the earphones have a great effect on sound quality.

  • IPod Classic product quality

I've had an old 4G 20Gb for a couple of trouble-free years and recently updated to an 80Gb Classic. After having had it replaced once because of a faulty Clickwheel, the replacement just completely died on me after a week or so. I took it back to the PC World Store and the guy said that none of their UK stores had any left, so I haggled for a refund. when I asked why they had none left, he said he thought it's because of major quality issues with the product, which I suppose my experience supports. He also said that he'd never buy an iPod and advised me to buy a Samsung or Creative.
I'm very dissapointed that Apple seem to place too much emphasis on design and Marketing and not enough on Quality management. I haven't decided whether I'll buy another iPod Classic when they're available again, can anyone out there convince that I ought to?

I would definitely not give up on Apple so fast. I've had my 1st Gen Nano forever and it still works as good as day 1. Never has it given me problems, its always been a solid product.
Its like the person said above though, newly released things usually have bugs but Apple is working as we speak developing new versions of the software for the iPods to fix stuff. By 1.0.3 most things will probably be fixed especially if Apple rep's monitored this forum and see bugs people posted. I am currently gonna purchase a Classic soon (want more space + video) but I am prepared for a few bugs. Apple will come through trust me.
Besides any other MP3 player will not work with iTunes so you'll have the hassle of using a Windows based program to manage/sync music and we all know how much fun that can be.
In the end stick with Apple, they will get it right plus you have a year warranty so take advantage of that.

  • Ipod Classic - Case Quality ?

Thinking of replacing my 5th Gen Video Ipod with new 80 GB Classic. How good is the new case ? I have an invisible shield on my current pod for much needed protection. Will I have to shell out more $$ to do the same with the new Classic or have Apple sorted the scratching problem ?

Case top is a matte finished aluminum material. May resist more scratches. Only time will tell - but it will be more difficult to apply, say, the scratch protecting films like DLO makes since it isn't smooth. I have their films on my 5.5Gen unit and, if applied correctly, you can't tell it's there.
I think, at least, you'd want a screen protector for the new classics. Don't know if anyone has announced a line yet at this stage.

  • Best quality audio option for Ipod classic

Hello to everyone, I got a 160 Ipod classic as a present and I dont have previous experience. I am choosing the best way to import the CD collection and came to this 3 choices, after doing some research in the web
-AAC at 320. I have a trained ear and think I can tell the difference with 256, the difference in storage is not that big
-AIFF. I not really counting on this becasuse the files are big and I guess I colud onlu get around 400 CDs on 150 GB
-Apple lossless. I have read the quality is similar to Aiff and they dont take a lot of space.
What do you guys think is the best option for this 160 gb model? quality is important for me. I think the choice is AAC at 320 or Apple lossless, But Apple lossless is still almost double size files than the 320 AAc, so I dont know
Thanks a lot and best regards

  • What is the audio quality on an iPod Shuffle?

I have just received a free iPod shuffle. I would like to know whether the sound quality is different on all different models/varieties of iPods. I am an audiophile and quality is 1st priority. If one has music files as AAC format with highest bit rate possible, will it sound exactly the same on a Shuffle as on an iPod classic, or what about an iPod touch? Where can I find a description of the different audio quality of playback on these different size devices?
    Thanks

Apple does not publish audio specs on the various iPods and this information is tough to come by. They all sound pretty similar, some will have slight differences from others due to the difference in chipsets used.
Personally I think my 1st Generation iPod Shuffle has slighter better bass than the 2nd Generation Shuffle, 3rd Generation is on a par with the 1st Gen, my fifth generation iPod sound cleaner than my 160GB iPod Classic and I prefer the 2nd Generation Nano sound to all of them.

  • My ipod's music quality is inferior. It doesnt have the surround sound/ left and right audio channel unlike my brothers ipod? is there a problem with the chip?

I have an ipod touch 4g (8GB), I got this about 2.5 months ago, the same time my brother get his. My problem is that I noticed that audio quality is better on his device than mine. I have been listening to music and had different music devices before (non-Apple product and mobile phone) and the quality of music is better when I used to listen to those devices as well as my brother's ipod touch. Im referring to the left and right audio channels. Im not so good about the technical stuff but the best explanation I can give you is in a music or a movie, there's an effect wherein you can here a sound only at the left ear phone/speaker that you cant hear at the right earphone/speaker. I mean for example in a song, a guitar intro can be heared only at the left
ear while the background music plays on the other ear. Or when theres and echo effect on the song that alternates sound on the left and right ear. I hope youre getting what Im trying to say. Im bothered that my ipod is fake or has an internal problem on the chips or something because I didnt bought this at an Apple Center/Mac Center. I bought it on a retailer. I am not able to visit any store or Genius Bar  or contact an apple specialist through phone because of my work schedule and work load.  I have contacted the retailer before when I tried to return it for replacement or repair but he told me that it is under Apple's warranty, not theirs. I do hope that I can get a help from you because I want to really enjoy my device. Thank you and Im looking forward for the responce/assistance form you.

I suggest you don't apply pressure to the screen - it's a Touch - you touch the screen not push it.

  • Has Apple addressed poor sound quality issues with new 160GB iPod classic?

I just bought a new 160GB iPod classic, replacing a perfectly good 80GB iPod Video (5.5), thinking that the newer one would be superior to my 3 year old model. I discovered that the sound of the new unit was flat and muddy compared to the older model. I found that the 5th gen iPod video was more "spacial", if that's an appropriate word to use; the bass was more present and more clearly defined, as was the rest of the sonic spectrum. I searched several forums to research this issue and while there were numerous references to this issue, all of the posts I found referred to the original iPod classics (80GB and 160GB) and not the later 120GB classics nor the new 160GB classics like the one I bought. Has Apple done anything to address this issue since the first classics were released or are the new ones still suffering from the same sound quality issues as the original classics?

Based on your observations here, they apparently have not changed the sound quality since the original 160GB classic. I noticed a clear narrowing of the sound stage (ambiance) between the 5.5G 80Gb and my 6G 160GB. You're describing the same characteristic. I don't own the newest 160GB version and came here today to see if it might have improved the sound quality back to the 5.5 spaciousness. Note that the 5.5G has a higher signal to noise ratio than the 6G, making it difficult for me to enjoy it through efficient balanced armature in ear monitors like the Shure SE530s or Ulimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s.

  • My iPod Classic is emitting a low whining noise and I can no longer access songs or audio books. Should I restore factory settings?

When I turn my iPod Classic on I hear a low whining noise coming from it.If I follow through the menus to a song or an audio book it shows the item for a few seconds then reverts to the previous menu and the whining noise is audible again. I have tried the "5 Rs" without success. Should I try restoring the factory settings - or is there something else I can do? I would be grateful for any advice!

I have the same problem with my ipod 4th gen 32gb! My music is all in the library but I cannot get it to go onto my ipod!! Ever since the latest iOS 6.1.3 update! I have restored my ipod, backed it up, done absolutely everything!! Nothing works! Please help!

  • IPod Classic 160GB audio still there even at zero volume

    Hi there,
Unfortunately I haven't found any topic here that's dealing with my problem on the first gen 160GB iPod Classic. Yesterday I realized that there's something wrong with its volume control. Even when I shift down the volume to zero there's still audio hearable (no matter if it's an audiobook, music, a podcast or a video clip) there at a fairly decent volume level (not nearly close to the sound level of whispering, by far louder).
First I tried to do a Hardware Reset on the iPod but this didn't help me a bit - the problem is still there.
So, I put all my hopes in that forum - actually I prefer listening to my audio books on a really low volume but that's not really possible right now...
    Greetings from Austria,
    Stefan

Same here! Please Apple, fix this issue in the next update! This should be no problem I think!

hi, my 120gb ipod classic is not showing up in itunes, and everything is gone.
how do i format it on microsoft ' format portable audio player ' ?
the device has just installed necessary drivers to microsoft upon plugging in
like a say though, not showing up in itunes still
before it recently had this failure, it had shown up as corrupted and that it needed restoring (but i was holding off, as i manually managed all music and was hoping for a way to back it all up, to no avail)
first time posting here, would appreciate a quick answer because tempted to just click the 'restore device defaults' option
    Many thanks

  • Will a 6gen audio jack for ipod classic work if installed into a 5gen ipod classic?

i think i might of ordered an ipod 6 gen audio jack and hold button for my ipod classic 5 gen and when i installed it it makes the clicking noise when the wheel is spun but when i want to listen to music it wont send audio through my headphones or anything is it the audio jack that's broken or is it just not compatible?

See my response to your other post.  I assume a 6G hold switch and headphone jack would work, but again only assume, so maybe not.
