I had a very similar problem. I came across this post early on and it did not have an answer or help me with my situation - so, when I got my situation fixed, I thought I would come back and give my solution to see if it would help.
Reset ipod (toggle hold then hold down menu and select buttons until apple appears on screen)
Remove iTunes 9 (drag to trash)
download iTunes 8 (easy to find with a google search)
Install itunes 8, after installation when you open iTunes it will tell you the library was created with a new version... so what! restart iTunes while holding down the option key. tell it to create a NEW library- name it what ever your not going to use it.
plug in the iPod... i got an error saying the firmware on ipod was not the same as itunes and to install additional ipod support from OSx disk... DO IT! (additional software - ipod support)
restart mac
open itunes plug in ipod and it should recognize it.... now it should tell you that your ipod has a firm ware update... do it! Once that is finished and has rebooted your ipod and you can see it again in the itunes menu- update itunes back to version 9.
Done! Simply point your itunes music folder back to where all your tunes are located and import the entire thing (my itunes folder is about 40gb and this took only 5 minutes)
resync music to your ipod and you are done. and you are on the newest version of itunes with your classic ipod!

  • Just dowloaded my ipod classic into a new pc but cannot access songs

I just downloaded my itunes into my PC and connected my labtop but unable to access songs on ipod classic, help

Your question is a bit terse, so let's explore this.
You have connected the latest iTunes. Please confirm the version, as well as the software version of your iPod Classic.
Can iTunes see your iPod? That is, when you connect the iPod, does it show up as a device in iTunes? If so, you should be able to then click on the diamond and see the music on the iPod.
Do you have the same music in your iTunes as in your iPod?

  • IPod Classic Cannot Be Read Or Written To Or Restored

    Hi,
I have a 160 GB iPod classic which had about 40 GB free on it, but I cannot get iTunes to synchronise or restore.
    If I try to synch,  iTunes shows the following error message;
'Attempting to copy to the disk "Andrew's iPod Classic" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
So tonight I thought i should try and restore it, but after several minutes it popped this error message:
'There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "Andrew's iPod Classic". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.'
After having selected the OK button my iPod has nothing on it at all now. So whether i try to synch or restore, it always shows those two error messages.
I also tried using the "Manage Tracks & Playlists' option. But although I can see the tracks i manually moved over in the ipods music section when its connected to itunes, they dont show up on the iPod itself when i have ejected it from the computer.
My iPod is about 18 months old, so no warranty repair possible.
I have tried for several evenings to sort this, and cannot understand the problem.
Can anyone please advise me how to proceed?
Im using OS X 10.7.5 iTunes is 10.7 and my iPod is 2.0.4
    Thank you.

Try repairing permissions on the disk using Disk Utility. If that fails, do a low level reformat instead using the instructions in this article.

  • IPod Classic: Cannot Restore?

For a long time now my iPod couldn't sync new music from my iTunes, but the songs originally in it still played. So I waited it out. But last week, I couldn't stand it anymore so I tried asking around, and they told me I should just restore it. I plugged it in and it said:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
And I know, because I've tried, that the latter does not do anything to help at all. So I clicked RESTORE. And when I do so, it tells me a newer version (1.1.2) has been downloaded and asks whether or not I want to restore with the old version or the new. If I choose USE NEW VERSION:
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPod "iPod" to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased."
    a) At this point, they already changed my iPod's name.
    b) I, of course, clicked RESTORE.
It then says, "Extracting software...". Then, "Restoring iPod..". Next it tells me that my iPod is restored & it's restarting & to keep my iPod connected. My iPod shuts off, turns on, but does not appear in iTunes or my computer. The iPod is now empty but 1 of the original games still won't work.
Sometimes it says that it could not be restored because of unknown error. Now, when I open the iPod, click Vortex, it loads, then shuts down. And restarts. So, it constantly shuts itself down now. And there's nothing left in it. When it shuts down, it is as if it reset itself. It goes back to the Choose A Language Page and all changes made (like the date) are reset.
Side notes: I had a friend take my iPod home to check if it was just my computer, but it did the same thing.
I have warranty until October (If I bought the iPod at Futureshop, do I go there, or to the Apple Store to ask for help...?).

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

ive been having the same issue for months, i tried reinstalling iTunes, restoring my iPod.. and everything..
nothing works.. its a brand new iPod, and i couldnt get any music on it.
this iPod was a replacement for my iPod classic that the screen broke while under warentee, and now i can get music on my iPod, but not video.
for some reason my comp freazes, and crashes anytime i try to load my movies, or TV shows.
and recently it keeps giving the error of "The iPod cannot be synced. the disk could not be read from or written to"
and it says that it cannot be restored..
    how do i fix this?

  • Is there a way to transfer music from my original Ipad to an Ipod classic? All songs on my Ipad were purchased directly through I tunes they are not on my PC. Thanks

Is there a way I can transfer songs from my Ipad (first) to my Ipod classic? I purchased all of the songs directly through Itunes to my Ipad, in other words they are not on my PC, (Windows Vista)
    Thank you

I'm pretty sure there's one or the other in most US households.
That being said, as Thom_D said, there's no need to post your full name and location in any public forum.
I've asked the mods to remove that personal info.

  • How do I get songs from itunes match on my ipod classic if the songs are no longer on my hard drive?

I synced my I tunes to Match a few weeks ago, and I then deleted the music from my hard drive. I just bought an ipod classic 160g and I cant get it to sync from my library now, even though all the songs and playlists showup on my computer sitll (and play) from match. I have the hardrive space to download the 150gigs of songs, but I'm not sure if thats whats need, or even how to get everyting back on my computer now so that I can sync it.
    Help Please!

The actual files must be on the computer HDD to be synced to an iPod Classic. Syncing of that model of iPod will not work if the files are not there.
If you are going to re-add the files back to your library the best way to do it is to restore from the backup you made before you deleted all the song files.

  • Ipod classic skips with songs downloaded from itunes and mp3's.

I have an ipod 120gb classic, I listen to it in my van through my alpine car stereo, i found that it would start to play songs and then skip to the next song in the playlist, i thought it may have been the cable for the stereo that was the problem, 2 month ago i changed the stereo and the cables and with the brand new stereo the ipod is still skipping through songs which leads me to believe that its an ipod issue and not my alpine, is there anyway to correct this, as it is very annoying, i bought the ipod to avoid having cds and damagings them now the ipod is doing what cds do, skipping tracks, and then ive noticed for such an expensive investment, apple has not been able to resolve the problem.

I need to know more specifics about your problem.
Are your songs ending earlier than expected and the play count incrementing? If you push the back button to play the song again, does it end at the same premature time? Can you scrub (push the center select button once and then scroll) to a point 60 seconds after the songs cuts off and hear the remainder of the song play? If you listen to the same song on your computer and it plays fine all the way through and all of the above applies, then the problem is that iTunes is omitting a small amount of data in the midst of the data stream as it transfers files to the iPod.
Uncheck the song(s) ending too early; sync; check the song(s) ending early; sync. iTunes will then send a new copy of each song to the iPod. If any song on the iPod isn't repaired after this (and the point where the song cuts off may change), then repeating the process for any song which didn't get repaired should work.

  • Itunes and Ipod Classic stop before song ends after transfer to new computer

I purchased a new Windows 7 computer and transferred my library from my XP computer.
I restored my library and all seemed well with the world.
I synched my IPod classic 120GB with over 8000 songs.
I was listening to the IPOD on my docking station when I started noticing that songs would just stop before the end of the song.
I thought my 120GB Ipod was dying, so I purchased a new 160GB.
    The problem continued.
I then listened to them on the new computer in Itunes and they did not completely stop, they just skipped to the next track at the same place as it froze on my IPOD.
I listened to the same song on my old computer through Itunes and it played correctly.
I have do not have the Itunes Match and the songs that I currently know that have the problem were purchased on Itunes.
Any suggestions as how to resolve the issue?

I would try copying over the tracks from your XP computer again as the files from the first transfer may be corrupted.

  • IPod Classic not playing songs

    Hi
Grabbed my 160 GB iPod Classic yesterday and the entire thing was empty. No clue what happened. The only thing I did was update the OS and download a new album from iTunes.
Resynched the device twice now and now the iPod is not playing some songs. Some play, some tracks skip on to the next one without playing.
Not finding a clear solution in my searches, though others seem to have had the issue.
All my songs play fine in iTunes.
Would love a solution, cuz I like my iPod!
    thanks,
    D

What format are these problematic files encoded in?  I assume you have worked through all of the suggestions here already?

  • PLEASE HELP - BACKED UP IPOD BUT CANNOT GET SONGS BACK ON IPOD

Hi. I have a U2 ipod photo. Recently have had alot of problems with songs dissapearing and i had to reset IPOD everytime. I bought the my ipod in the US 2 years ago with the "Complete U2 set" installed on the ipod. All the songs that came with the special edition ipod.
The consultant in the store loaded all the songs for me as we can not do it thru Itunes via South Africa with and SA credit card or login. So i read all the online help files and made a backup disc of all my "purchased songs" which is the U2 collection.
Now i can not get the songs back on my ipod and i cannot play them on my machine. Said im not authorised. Gives me a login request with this email addres "[email protected]".
Have been trying to contact apple, but i cannot find an address to email to ask for help. If i start my itunes and insert the backup disc it puts on the music in my library, but i cannot move it or change it.
    PLEASE HELP.
    thks
    nicol

You are out of luck for non-Tunes purchases. The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • IPod Classic 160GB skipping songs after a few minutes play

I've got an annoying problem with my iPod Classic 160GB.  It gets to about 3 minutes or so into a song (sometimes more sometimes less then just skips to the next one.  It's about a couple of years old (I got it as a replacement when the battery of my 120GB Classic failed) and has been excellent.
It doesn't just do it when I'm walking along - I've put it on my desk now for experimental purposes and it's the same thing.  They all play fine in iTunes.
Most of my iTunes recordings are now Apple Lossless - the lower bitrate songs and podcasts seem to play through fine.  I've hard-reset and restored the machine.
I have heard some noises coming from the hard disc - could the HDD be failing?  Very disappointed if so - and what else can be done short of converting my large iTunes library to a lower bitrate?  But that defeats the object of having the Classic's high capacity which is the ability to store and play higher quality recordings. It never did this in the past - nor on my original 120GB

I've done the iPod diagnostic tests on the HDD (select-menu then select-back) and it comes up with no errors or bad sectors.  Hmm

  • Ipod classic "cannot play" with jvc kd-hdr50 car stereo?

When I plug my ipod classic 160gb into the usb input on my JVC KD-HDR 50 car stereo I'm getting "cannot play" on the display. This is the first time that I've had this happen.  I did reset the ipod and tried a different usb cable but still have the same problem. Can anyone help me with this problem?

I solved the problem using the reset button on my JVC car stereo. Works fine now.

  • IPod classic 160GB skipping songs

I bought a new 160GB iPod only four days ago. I've noticed a couple of problems:
    1) When playing a playlist, the iPod will sometimes skip a song. For example, when song 1 is finished, it will play song 3. It skips only some songs, but they are always the same ones. The songs played perfectly on my 80GB 5.5G. Unless I manually select them, they won't play along in the playlist. I've tried restoring and I updated to 1.0.1 but it didn't help.
    2) I noticed the battery meter jumps all over the place when selecting different things on the iPod, especially videos. One second it was 3/4 full, the next it was 1/4, then back to half, thten it goes back to normal. Maybe it was doing that because it's a new battery, but I did calibrate it last night (fully discharge and fully charge) so maybe that fixed it. Haven't tried it yet. But has anyone else encountered this?

My iPod Classic 80G is doing something similar. At times it will not play the selected song from the list. For example, I am in the podcast directory for a video podcast and I select the Sept. 19, 2007 episode. The iPod queues up and plays the Sept. 18,2007 instead. I exit out and go back to the directory and reselect the Sept. 19, 2007 episode; Sept. 18, 2007 episode plays again. I normally have to restart the iPod in order for the desired podcast episode to play.
This also occurs with music. I select Track One and track three begins to play. Reselect track One and track three plays again.
I am running iPod Classic software 1.0.1
