IPod Classic: Cannot Restore?

For a long time now my iPod couldn't sync new music from my iTunes, but the songs originally in it still played. So I waited it out. But last week, I couldn't stand it anymore so I tried asking around, and they told me I should just restore it. I plugged it in and it said:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
And I know, because I've tried, that the latter does not do anything to help at all. So I clicked RESTORE. And when I do so, it tells me a newer version (1.1.2) has been downloaded and asks whether or not I want to restore with the old version or the new. If I choose USE NEW VERSION:
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPod "iPod" to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased."
a) At this point, they already changed my iPod's name.
b) I, of course, clicked RESTORE.
It then says, "Extracting software...". Then, "Restoring iPod..". Next it tells me that my iPod is restored & it's restarting & to keep my iPod connected. My iPod shuts off, turns on, but does not appear in iTunes or my computer. The iPod is now empty but 1 of the original games still won't work.
Sometimes it says that it could not be restored because of unknown error. Now, when I open the iPod, click Vortex, it loads, then shuts down. And restarts. So, it constantly shuts itself down now. And there's nothing left in it. When it shuts down, it is as if it reset itself. It goes back to the Choose A Language Page and all changes made (like the date) are reset.
Side notes: I had a friend take my iPod home to check if it was just my computer, but it did the same thing.
I have warranty until October (If I bought the iPod at Futureshop, do I go there, or to the Apple Store to ask for help...?).
Serial#- 8K73889FYMV
Help would be greatly appreciated!

ipod classic wont restore or reset error code 1415,,1417,

I assume you have seen this article regarding this error message.
    iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

Without knowing what happens when you try to restore the iPod
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Classic Cannot Be Read Or Written To Or Restored

    Hi,
I have a 160 GB iPod classic which had about 40 GB free on it, but I cannot get iTunes to synchronise or restore.
    If I try to synch,  iTunes shows the following error message;
'Attempting to copy to the disk "Andrew's iPod Classic" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
So tonight I thought i should try and restore it, but after several minutes it popped this error message:
'There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "Andrew's iPod Classic". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.'
After having selected the OK button my iPod has nothing on it at all now. So whether i try to synch or restore, it always shows those two error messages.
I also tried using the "Manage Tracks & Playlists' option. But although I can see the tracks i manually moved over in the ipods music section when its connected to itunes, they dont show up on the iPod itself when i have ejected it from the computer.
My iPod is about 18 months old, so no warranty repair possible.
I have tried for several evenings to sort this, and cannot understand the problem.
Can anyone please advise me how to proceed?
Im using OS X 10.7.5 iTunes is 10.7 and my iPod is 2.0.4
    Thank you.

Try repairing permissions on the disk using Disk Utility. If that fails, do a low level reformat instead using the instructions in this article.

  • IPod classic randomly restored on its own and now wont connect to itunes..

    Hey guys
So last week i sync'd my iPod Classic 80gb and everything worked fine.
I've been away for the week and have used my iPod in a couple of different speakers/car transmitters/playstation etc and they have all worked fine.
Then when I got home today, the ipod says 'connected' but doesnt come up in itunes.
However, it does come up in my computer as 'steff's ipod' and shows that there is space being used on the ipod, even though it comes up as blank when i use it.
After I unplugged this it froze and once i got it back unfrozen, everything appears to be gone.
Now whenever i plug it in nothing comes up in itunes even though it says 'connected' however when i unplug it, an error then comes up in itunes saying it cannot sync with the ipod.
The first time i plugged it in it did come up with an error saying it was corrupt.
I've tried installing windows 7 updates, and uninstalling and reinstalling itunes but now itunes just freezees once the ipod is connected to the computer.
Now something similar happened to me a while ago and ended up killing my ipod, I had to go back to Apple and they offered me a refurbished one.
However that time it didnt restore on it's own, something just went wrong and it couldnt sync, but it started with the 'corrupt ipod' message so im thinking its something with my computer that's causing this (the guy at the Apple store did say that my PC caused the problem but i dont know how!)
Any assistance would be great, I don't really feel like spending another 200 dollars on a third ipod.
    Thanks!

update- now it will come up in itunes and says it detects an ipod in recovery mode and to restore it.
I do this and it says the ipod will reset and come back up in itunes when it is done, however it never comes back up and either itunes ends up freezing or the ipod does.
then after i reset the computer it goes around in circles and does all of this again

  • IPod Classic Frequent restore errors

    Hi,
I have a 120GB Classic which keeps coming up with the error as below
When I restore the iPod, it restores it all right, but after syncing and ejecting the ipod, no music shows up.
Can someone tell me what is going wrong?
Here is what I have already tried.
    1. the 5Rs.
    2. Connecting as a disk
    3. Scandisk and fix errors
    4. Hard resets
Do let me know how I can fix this, dear Apple. Also do let me know if Apple would replace the device if it cannot be fixed.

If the On This iPod tab shows a list of songs, then they are being synced to the iPod.  Not being able to play them there (from that tab in iTunes) is normal, if you use automatic syncing. The list is probably grayed out.
I'm not sure why the songs to not appear when the iPod is being used.
Try this test.  Do a Restore again.  If it asks if you want to sync your library to the iPod during thre Restore process, decline doing so.  Also, show the iTunes sidebar, so that iTunes operates like it did before this version.  From the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  You can change that back later.
Select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  On the Summary tab, check the box for Manually manage music and videos, if it is not already.  Apply this change, if needed.
In the sidebar, "drop down" the iPod's content list and select Music there.  To the right, is the list of songs on the iPod, which should be empty at the moment.  NOTE:  This is equivalent to the "On This iPod" tab.
Go to the iTunes Music library in the sidebar.  Using the manual method to load the iPod, drag a small number of songs from the Music library to the iPod.  When you go back to Music under the iPod, you should see those songs on the iPod's Music list.  The list should no longer be grayed out, although you still may not be able to play the songs from there (in iTunes).
Now, try the things that did not work before...  Eject and disconnect the iPod, and see if those songs appear on the iPod and are playable.

    Hello soraiaSP
Check out the steps in the article below to try and restore it again. One of the steps is to put your iPod classic into Disk Mode and then use iTunes to restore it.

  • IPod classic not restoring

I have a 5th gen iPod classic. It kept freezing my iTunes. I would be forced to restart my pc to get iTunes to run again. So I hit Restore, but it keeps claiming the program is in use by another program. No other programs are open. Any advice?

Do the iPod DiskDiagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem but helps in troubleshooting.
Then click on iPod properties, in my Computer, and do error checking, tick on fix filesytem, to clear any redundant flag of the error.
    Have a nice day!

I solved the problem using the reset button on my JVC car stereo. Works fine now.

  • Ipod Classic cannot access songs

Hi I have an ipod classic 80g. When I connect it to the itunes i can't click on the songs and i also can't add new content to my ipod. help!
screen shot of what it looks like
    http://tinypic.com/r/1y94ia/6

I had a very similar problem. I came across this post early on and it did not have an answer or help me with my situation - so, when I got my situation fixed, I thought I would come back and give my solution to see if it would help.
Reset ipod (toggle hold then hold down menu and select buttons until apple appears on screen)
Remove iTunes 9 (drag to trash)
download iTunes 8 (easy to find with a google search)
Install itunes 8, after installation when you open iTunes it will tell you the library was created with a new version... so what! restart iTunes while holding down the option key. tell it to create a NEW library- name it what ever your not going to use it.
plug in the iPod... i got an error saying the firmware on ipod was not the same as itunes and to install additional ipod support from OSx disk... DO IT! (additional software - ipod support)
    restart mac
open itunes plug in ipod and it should recognize it.... now it should tell you that your ipod has a firm ware update... do it! Once that is finished and has rebooted your ipod and you can see it again in the itunes menu- update itunes back to version 9.
Done! Simply point your itunes music folder back to where all your tunes are located and import the entire thing (my itunes folder is about 40gb and this took only 5 minutes)
resync music to your ipod and you are done. and you are on the newest version of itunes with your classic ipod!
