IPOD CLassic: "Cannot synchronise IPOD, because of an unknown error (-48)"

Hi all,
I have an IPOD CLassic 80Gb just recently. At first synchronising with Itunes 7.5 went fine. Now i constant get the message that synchronising isn't possible due to a unknown error -48. The only right mouse option on the IPOD is to disconnect it. No recover option is possible. While the diagnostics states that everything is fine. Anywhone who knows how to fix this problem?
Thx in advance

Did you get an error message when you did the standalone AMDS install? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Did you migrate the application or do a clean install? The more recent Adobe products don"t do well with migration. Uninstall, run the cleaner tool and reinstall is the usual remedy.

  • My Ipod Classic cannot be synced because it cannot be found.  Help?

IPOD cannot be found when I try to sync it on my desktop Windows XP.  Haven'tt been able to sync it for over a year.

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • "Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists..."

I recently bought a 1GB iPod Nano from a dude on craigslist and I updated it once, but when I try to update it now a message comes up that reads:
"Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
Also, when I updated it yesterday, it said that the iPod didn't have room for all of the songs on my iTunes...but I only have like 75 regular-length songs on there and the 1GB is supposed to hold 240. Anyone know what's up with that?
After it informed me of this last thing, it made me a playlist of a "selection" of songs from the iTunes and updated it with those.
I deleted that playlist today...may that be related to my first question?
All of this doesn't make sense. Can anyone shed a little light on the subject?
    Thanks

I had this problem with my 4GB iPod nano and I tried everything that you said to try. I did accidentally delete the iPod Selection playlist and I tried to make a new smart playlist. When I did this I got an error message that said "The smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty of conflict with one another. This will result in never matching any item. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?" I tried to upload an old library onto my iTunes and it was successful, however, my iPod would still not sync. Do you know what i can do to fix this?
    thank you.

  • IPod touch cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes Library

Hi, I have just transferred my whole iTunes library from my old computer to my new one and am trying to sync my iPod to the new one. However I get an error message saying "iPod touch cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes Library (additional 5.38GB required). I currently have 8.5GB free on my iPod so I don't understand why it cannot sync.

Hey Georgiarose94, If what's going on, is what I think it is, when you sync the information it's over written, it can take 2 to 3 times more space the get the info on your iPod, once it's there the info only occupies the space it needs. Kind if of like moving, when you first step in the room with boxes of stuff there's no room. But after you get everything put away all is well. If you haven't already, connect your iPod to your computer, from your iPod Summary page, go down to Options and check reduce bit rate to (select 128 kbps). (Wording maybe a little different). Will greatly reduce memory space needed on your iPod, and you really do not hear the difference in sound quality. Other option, go to music and select manual so you can pick which music you place on the iPod. You need to reduce by 5.38GB of information to finish your download. Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • I'm getting this message "The iPod "Sage's iPod Touch" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. " But cannot update iTunes because my OS is 10.5.8

I'm getting this message "The iPod “Sage’s iPod Touch” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. " But cannot update iTunes because my OS is 10.5.8.  How do I use my iPod with my iTunes?

Solved.  Not sure what I finally clicked on on Apple.com but found iTunes 10.6.3 and was able to download that for free and now my iPod can sync.

  • Why iPod Touch cannot be synced because I do not have the privilege to make the changes?, Why iPod Touch cannot be synced because I do not have the privilege to make the changes?

When trying to sync m iPod Touch with my iTunes it tells me that the iPod Touch cannot be synced because I do not have the privilege to make the changes.

    Hello Lizzyr Lizaryd,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try reformatting the iPod using *Disk Utility*. For instructions on how to do this, see this Apple Support document.

  • WE have 2 Ipod classics and 1 IPod touch. One of the classics is not recognised by itunes library under devices and cannot be synchrinised with a playlist

We have 2 Ipod classics and 1 Ipod touch. One of the classics is not recognised by the itunes library and therfore canoot be synchonised with a playlist.

The second shuffle cannot be recognized by this computer ("USB Device Cannot be Recognized") so I don't think I'm able to reset it using that (it says "iPod is not recognized by iTunes, but is *visible in My Computer or in Device Manager* on a Windows PC, or in Apple System Profiler on a Mac.")
Like I said though, it works on other computers just fine and is visible so I don't quite understand what's up with this computer.

i connect my ipod touch on my lap top and i cannot sync my photos cuase an unknown error alert (-50)
but on the ipod settings shows like it sync the photos but i cannot see it
    how can i fix it?

    Hi,
Does the issue occur while syncing photos?
If it does try deleting the iPod photo Cache from the root of the folder photos are synced from, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Also, make sure you have the latest software updates available for your Mac. Just click the Apple(top left corner of the scree)> Software Update..

  • My Ipod classic works perfectly until there's around 3 GB loaded on it, then there is an error message saying that it couldn't sync because of an unknown error.

My itunes and Ipod software are both the current version, doesn't seem to change anything. It works perfectly until there's around 3 GB loaded on it, then there is an error message saying that it couldn't sync because of an unknown error.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

    Best,

  • Itunes could not copy 'song' to the ipod 'name ipod' because of an unknown error occurred (-5000)

Itunes could not copy 'song' to the ipod 'name ipod' because of an unknown error occurred (-5000)

This problem does seem pretty random, affecting just a small number of tracks. Apparently it is due to some file corruption or something... Anyway, this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2654317?start=15&tstart=0 has a couple of solutions spelled out. Basically the same thing that a-monk-at-large suggested above. (Delete and redownload the offending tracks.)
