IPod Classic displays blank event reminder, click causes restart

I have an iPod Classic that I've had for about a year now. I've restored it twice now, but I'm still seeing this error. Periodically, a blank event reminder will pop-up on the screen with no name, but with the option to snooze or clear the reminder. When I click the wheel to select either option to clear the reminder, the iPod instantly restarts.
Anyone else have this happen to their iPod? Any ideas what causes it or how I could get it to stop?
I've been wondering if it could be related to having three computers (work: 10.4.11, home: 10.6.1, other home computer:10.5.9), an iphone and my ipod all sync-ed together with MobileMe. The OS variations seem to generate a lot of problems with duplicate entries and sync update notifications between computers and I'm wondering if maybe something in there is causing these strange blank notifications to go to my iPod.
However, I don't get blank event notifications on my computers or on my iPhone...so I'm not sure my half-baked idea has anything to do with it.
I don't know how many more times I need to restore this iPod... anyone have an idea, or should I just take it in (even though I can't force demonstrate this error to a genius bar employee...)
Thanks!
-M

I've been having the same exact problem since I've had my iPod Classic 80 GB (about 1 1/2 years). Not sure why either, I've looked for forums discussing the problem but have found nothing. I assumed the issue would've been fixed with an update, but I guess not.

  • TS1382 Is my iPod classic 160gb supposed to make clicking sounds?

Is my iPod classic 160gb supposed to make clicking sounds?   I can hear the drive.  I was just wondering.  It's almost like its *******.  And it lags slightly. If that's normal please tell me.

Sounds like you are just hearing the normal sounds that a hard drive makes. Because there is a drive in the Classic iPod, there is some lag and that is normal.
I have a 6th generation iPod Nano and when I go to play a song, it plays instantly but that iPod has a flash drive.
    How old is your iPod?

So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn’t find any files on the iPod anymore. However when you look in the settings it displays that ~roughly 90 GB free space is available. Seen the fact that I had about 60 gigs of music this doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I think my music is still somewhere on the ipod but the HDD isn’t recognizing it anymore.
I’ve tried resetting it, and resetting it to factory settings, which didn’t work. When connected to a desktop it won’t be recognized by iTunes, it displays an error message that the iPod cannot be read and that I have to reset it to factory settings.
I’ve spent some time researching this problem yesterday and I ran into a myriad of vaguely similar problems didn’t really offer any help. Currently I’m thinking that formatting the iPod might work, and restoring the software afterwards. However this is a rather bold strategy so I’d like to consult you here first.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • IPod Classic display album art via TV-Out

Just purchased an iPod Classic 80Gb with the new Apple Dock. I am thinking about getting the new composive AV cable to display video etc. on my TV as well as playing tunes through my hi-fi. Does anyone know if the album will display on the TV when playing music?

I just got the Universal Dock and the Component A/V cable as an early Christmas present, and as stated before there's no album art. Initially I would have thought that the entire iPod UI would be visible on the television, but it is not. The only thing that shows are movies, tv shows, and photos. :/

  • Having problems adding contacts to my ipod classic, itunes help says to click on the "info" button.  But there doesn't seem to be an "info" button in my itunes under my ipod

I am wanting to add contacts to my ipod classic 160gb, the intunes help says to click on the "info" button on my device, but there doesn't seem to be an "info" button there.  I have tried restoring my ipod as well, twice now.  But doesn't work.  Any ideas?

'Info' is along the top of the iTunes window when you have the iPod attached and selected.
When info is selected you will find the option you want.
    Best.

  • ICal event reminder bug causes alarm to be repeated every hour

    Hi,
I'm running 10.7.3 on an iMac.
In the last fortnight (nothing with the OS or settings has been changed) the iCal event reminders incorrectly trigger every hour for the same event. This is occuring for every event reminder, even if the settings are for a single alarm or email the day before. To make things worse I've had to delete the events with one-off email notifications as my inbox was getting full!
The events themselves are not duplicated, and the alarms not set to be recurring.
I have an icloud calendar, two exchange calendars, and two calendars all being sync'd between my iMac, two macbook pro's, and iPhone and iPad. Have had these all set for ages with no problems.
I've called apple support enough times in the past to have already checked the system privilages but unfortunately this has not resolved the problem.
I would turn off all the event alarms but a few of the calendars are shared across different sites and keep us all on the same page (occasionally also the events have been created by others).
    Suggestions would be much appreciated
    Isaac

Totally missed it, duh! Thanks. Will try again.

  • IPod Classic display bit rate?

Is it possible to view the bit rate for individual songs on the latest iPod classic? If not is this possible by any third party plugin or something? It would be really useful.
    Many thanks

Sorry, the answer to your question is no.

  • IPod classic stuck on 'X' screen, can't restart or sync with iTunes

I've tried everything, but nothing has worked to fix my beloved iPod classic.  It hasn't worked since last September, so about four months.  I'm curious if it has something to do with the classic being discontinued, but I don't see why that would destroy my iPod, which I had for about a year.  If I hit a button, the apple logo pops up, and after a few seconds it goes to a different screen with an 'X' on it, giving me the url for apple support.  It didn't seem like any of the support was directed to my sort of problem.  I have a lot of music, so without my iPod I've been forced to only add a small amount of it to my 16gb iPhone.  I'm hoping that I can get my iPod working again, since I used it everyday.  I would appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

    Hi b.lindstrom,
If you are seeing the Red X on your iPod, then try putting your iPod into Disk Mode and then restore it within iTunes. If that does not work, then you will need to setup service on your iPod. The article below will have more information to help you out.

  • HT1320 My ipod classic displays the apple logo then transitions to an "x" inside a circle, with the support website underneath. What's that?

I am trying to get into the ipod to save the files, if, in fact, there are any files left. I have followed the steps in the "support steps" all the way through the "Services" inputs. But I still can not get the unit to reset to the point where I can retrieve my files. Whenever it is that it does show in iTunes (and it doesn't always), there is a message that says that the unit should be restored. Restoring will delete all files. So it suggests that I backup the files on the unit. If I can't see the files, for the previously stated reasons, how can I possibly "back up" any files?
As you can see, I need HELP!!!!!!!

    Hello dhhatfield,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have a red x on the iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • TS1369 My iPod classic displays the apple logo, then shows a large red "X". I have repeated the list of steps several times, but my computer does not recognize the iPod. Does this mean my iPod will not work again?

My computer will "wait for the iPod", then begin to prepare it for recovery, but the process does not follow through. I've tried a few procedures to reset my iPod, and connect it to the PC, but even with repeating them, it fails. What must I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Incorrect display iCal calendar events on iPod Classic

    Hi.
I'm the owner of iPod Classic 120Gb with latest firmware (2.0.1)
I synchronise iCal calendars with my iPod Classic.
My events in "iCal" contain much of the text, but iPod Classic can show only little first part of text when i select this events.
    I cannot see all text.
    It is incorrect
For Example - iPod Nano 4gen can show all text of this events.

They do sync back for me. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. You might try resetting the sync history:

Alternatively, (and drastically) maybe Restore your IPT.
    Hope this helps...

  • How do i get itunes to recognize or sync to my ipod classic

How do I sync my ipod classic to itunes so I can download purchased music?

    Hi mane_tamer,
Thanks for your question.  Do you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC?  If not, here's how to update it:
Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201352
    Windows
    Open iTunes
From the menu bar, choose Help > Check for Updates. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can find this option in the Advanced menu. Learn how to show the menu bar.
Follow the prompts to install the latest version.
If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer, download it here.
Get more information about how to install and update iTunes and troubleshooting assistance.
If you are not prompted to install a new version of iTunes, you already have the latest version your operating system can support. See the System Requirements on the iTunes download page.
To learn how to sync your iPod Classic to iTunes for Windows, click on the iPod Classic User Manual below.  I've highlighted the key information about syncing for you (Pages 23-25.)
    iPod Classic User Manual
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/0/MA630/en_US/iPod_classic_120GB_en.pdf
    Managing iPod classic Manually
Setting iTunes to let you manage iPod classic manually gives you the most flexibility for managing music and video on iPod classic. You can add and remove individual songs (including music videos) and videos (movies and TV shows). Also, you can add music and videos from multiple computers to iPod classic without erasing items already on iPod classic.
Note: Setting iPod classic to manually manage music and video turns off the automatic sync options in the Music, Movies, and TV Shows panes. You cannot manually manage one and automatically sync another at the same time.
To set iTunes to let you manage music and video on iPod classic manually:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list and click the Summary tab.
2  In the Options section, select “Manually manage music and video.”
    3  Click Apply.
Note: When you manage songs and video yourself, you must always eject iPod classic from iTunes before you disconnect it.
To add a song, video, or other item to iPod classic:
1  Click Music or another Library item in the iTunes source list.
2  Drag a song or other item to the iPod classic icon in the source list.
To remove a song, video, or other item from iPod classic:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list.
2  Select a song or other item on iPod classic and press the Delete or Backspace key on
    your keyboard.
If you manually remove a song or other item from iPod classic, it isn’t deleted from your iTunes library.
To make a new playlist on iPod classic:
1  In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list, and then click the Add (+) button or
    choose File > New Playlist.
2  Type a name for the playlist.
3  Click an item, such as Music, in the Library list, and then drag songs or other items to the playlist.
To add songs to or remove songs from a playlist on iPod classic:
m Drag a song to a playlist on iPod classic to add the song. Select a song in a playlist and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the song.
If you set iTunes to manage music manually, you can reset it later to sync automatically.
To reset iTunes to sync all music automatically on iPod classic:
In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list and click the Music tab. Select “Sync music” and then choose “All songs and playlists.”
    Click Apply.
    The update begins automatically.
Note: If “Only sync checked items” is selected in the Summary pane, iTunes syncs only items that are checked in your Music and other libraries.
    Enjoy!
