Ipod Classic - Docking Station

Don't know if I'm posting in the correct place but I own an 80gb ipod Classic and I wish to purchase a compatible docking station (reasonable price).
I'd like it to have fully working functions like: Alarm that wakes up with ipod music, maybe ID tag display, and even video output??
Is there a docking station on the market at the moment that does all this?
I purchased the iLuv i199BLK but have recently taken it back because the video output didn't work and also the alarm didn't work with my ipod, I was informed that it's because it's made for the 5th generation ipods.
I have purchased another docking station today the inMotion im600 Altec Lansing and the Alarm function doesn't appear to be working on this model either? Am I doing something wrong? or which Docking Station do I require?
Thanks

The IM600 video output does not work with the Ipod classic (6th generation). I have tried with my new 80 GB Ipod, and it does not work. Interestingly, the user manual I downloaded from the Altec Lansing website says the IM600 is "made for" the Ipod classic. The picture of the back view of the unit on their site that shows the yellow video output exists, but the manual makes no mention of it. I liked the IM600, but now I am quite dissatisfied and question the integrity of the company. I have read that the new classic now requires a $49 cable from Apple which has a chip in it allowing videos to be played. Unless AL would make something to plug into the video output that would work like the apple cable, the video out feature is useless for new Ipod owners.

Does the manufacturer say it will work with your model iPod and iOS?
    Does it charge?
Is the iPod fully seated in the dock?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • IPod Touch 2G + iPod Photo docking station

I have an iPod Photo docking station connected to my iMac via USB. Are there any issues with using ipod photo dock with ipod touch 2g? I'm only interested in recharging and syncing and not using the s-video or line out ports.

Its fine. I used it for a bid too. Its just a dock, doesn't matter which iPod you have on it.

  • IPod nano 6gen does not send audio to home stereo when using an older (iPod classic) dock.

iPod nano 6gen does not send audio to home stereo when using an older (iPod classic) dock.  Is this a functional discount or something else?  [This system has worked with iPod Classic and Nano 4 gen.]

  • IPOD 80g Classic & docking station help!

Hi everyone, hope someone can help. Bought a friend slimline TEAC cdx60i for Christmas to use with her IPOD 80g. When she puts the IPOD into the dock, it freezes and won't play, she has had to reset everytime. Any suggestions before we return the unit to the store, its nice but won't work half the time & frustrating. I saw an earlier post from 2009 that said this was happening after updating Itunes to a newer version? thanks!

A bit more info........this is a CD/IPOD charging unit that attached to the tv to play music/videos from your IPOD (maybe that explanation is not necessary). It plays videos fine when choosing the function from the IPOD menu, but when trying to just play music it freezes on the docking station. My friend is worried about resetting it all the time and just plain doesn't want to deal with the hassle, maybe its not compatible with the classic model? Thanks again all.

  • Solution to 'Connected to Accessory' for iPod Classic docking

(solution: at least for my docking device)
I bought a Neo iPod docking station for my BMW and it used the iPod 60 GB (last generation) and it worked great – no problems.
Last week I bought the Classic iPod 160 GB and got the 'Connected to Accessory' problem using the docking station in my car.
No iPod screen and none of the controls on the iPod would work.
Thought about taking the iPod back.
Took the car to the installer and he fixed it.
You are not going to believe this:
Go to your iPod Menu > Settings > Clicker and change the setting to "On"
    (default is "Off")
That is it - plug it in your docking station and it works fine.
    Hope this works for you.

  • TS2634 Problem IPod Touch docking station.

I have an IPod Touch in a docking station which drives a player piano,  I have an Apple A1256 docking station with a remote control.  The IPod suddenly stopped working in the docking station.  The IPod screen appears to show the IPod playing, but no signal is leaving the docking station.  When I plug the piano directly into my IPod, the piano plays.  Has anyone encountered the problem of losing output from a docking station, and if so, how did you fix it?

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod and dock for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Bring both iPod and dock

  • Considering Purchasing a 160GB iPod Classic,  Dock Connector compatibility

While I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Apple (using Windows occasionally does that) I feel that I have to investigate in more detail before purchasing than I did in the past. (iMovie 08.)
I presently own a 5th generation iPod (iPod Video). All of our vehicles have a Belkin Auto Dock Connector that connects to the iPod audio and power.
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=149006#
Under the dash the audio connects to an Aux input of the car radio. So this one connector allows the audio hook up to the cars radio and it also charges the iPod as well. I don't know all the details of the installation, it was done by a "high-end" (aren't they all?) car audio shop.
Does anyone have an opinion or actual knowledge as to the likelihood that the 160GB iPod Classic will work with this dock connector like my 5th Gen does?
    Thanks

Well, the camera connector is NOT working. Belkin TunesTalk Stereo microphone is NOT working, too. Griffin iTrip IS working. So, my opinion is, Apple would have made changes in the classic connection which makes 2/3 of my connectors worthless. I'm disappointed about that, especially that they didn't care about the use of their own cam.-connector.
Take your car, try to get a parking spot near your local dealer and find out. Of course, Apple's not responsible for other producer's products - but who handed out the specs of the connector? And who is giving up them?

  • Is it ok to leave my ipod on docking station most of the time?

I have an ipod touch that I use solely to listen to music in my room and as an alarm clock. Will it ruin my ipod or damage the battery if I leave it on the ihome docking station the majority of the time?

It is OK as long as your almost completely discharge and then full charge the battery monthly as recommended here:

No ... you do NOT need to disconnect the dock's USB connector from the USB port after Shuffle is removed.

  • Is there an Apple alternative to using the Asus videophone. Is there a simple FaceTime alternative for an elderly person to use. iPod and docking station maybe?

I have an elderly parent and recently bought a secondhand Asus SV1T video phone to be able to Skype from my Mac, iPad,iPhone etc.  The device was perfect from a usability point of view but when I set it up discovered that the latest vesion of Skype is not supported on the Asus and there is no hope of Asus issueing a firmware upgrade to fix it. So the question is "is there a facetime alternative that an 85 year old can use".  It needs to be simple to operate, always on and reasonably compact.  One thought I had was using an iPod in a speaker dock for power and amplification.  I assume you can then tailor the front screen to simply show the facetime icon.  Anyone got any thoughts?

You would need to have an iPad with 3G, and pay for cellular data service for it.  If you have a wifi-only iPad, you simply cannot access the Internet anywhere that there is no wifi network available.  You could tether it to a wifi hotspot created by a smartphone, though having a smartphone significantly reduces the need for FaceTime, I would think.
