Ipod Classic Ejecting Itself

My Ipod glassic keeps ejecting itself before a sync is even complete.  I have tried reseting it, changing cables, changing ports, putting it into disc mode.  I updated Itunes a few days ago and that seems to be the only thing that has changed since I last plugged in my ipod.  It won't even let me restore it from my computer.

Is Enable Disk Use ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab?  Does this happen when you plug the iPod into another available USB port?
Are there any other USB devices that are plugged in?

PLEASE HELP ME! I'M DESPERATE =) THANKS!!!
PS: MY Classic charges when it's connected in my PC..

hi, i thought i'd offer an alternative solution as i found something that worked for me.
i got my first ipod yesterday (the classic 80gb) and i have had this problem. it kept ejecting itself intantly. well...i managed to update it to 1.1.2 and sync it once but then i had this problem since. i tried different usb ports and also different cables but nothing worked.
    this is what finally worked:
before, i always had itunes open and running then plugged in my ipod and i got this problem. i tried closing itunes, and just plugging in my ipod to the computer without itunes running and it didn't eject (nor did it open itunes for me as apparently it is supposed to) so anyway i connected and it held the connection without ejecting, then i opened itunes manually by clicking the icon and it held the connection. at this time i changed the settings to manually sync the ipod and to use it as a hard disc, and since then (only this morning) it has worked ok and not kept ejecting. hopefully it'll continue to work in this way. good luck guys hope it works for you too.
what a crappy company apple must be to have such a high profile product used my millions and it's just plagued with constant problems and bugs. my mobile has to do 3 times as many things as the ipod and it never has any trouble. sort it out apple!!!!!

  • My ipod 160 classic ejects itself.

Before I can click on it in itunes it ejects and disapears. I already had it in Disk Mode and have been able ot use it within the past year sucessfully. Now it won't stop ejecting itself. How can I fix this? I even tried a new ipod cable.
    -Thanks!

Did you do a simple reboot of both the PC and iPod to see if that does any good?  It wouldn't hurt to also remove any other USB devices if they are connected.
To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod Classic wiped itself & is no longer recognised in iTunes

iPod Classic, 80GB, from Dec 2007.
Plugged iPod in to laptop as normal (Acer Aspire 7730ZG, using WIN7 Ultimate at the time) & tried to add an album. Process froze & iPod would not update. It would not respond within iTunes, so I manually ejected via Windows. Upon ejection, the iPod reset itself & wiped all content & settings.
Since then, the iPod is not recognised by iTunes & is inaccessible. The iPod is recognised as a device in Windows, but I cannot format it or run any diagnostics via Properties. Each time I eject the iPod it resets itself as well.
I have tried various solutions that have previously been posted, but no luck so far. iPod can be put in Disk Mode, but just sits at 'Do not disconnect' (again, is recognised by Windows as a removable device).
iPod diagnostics gives me the following:
    Retracts: 201
    Reallocs: 4
    Pending Sectors: 6
    PowerOn Hours: 1007
    Start/Stops: 167
    Temp: Current 31c
    Temp: Min 12c
    Temp: Max 47c
    Any advice/help is much appreciated!

Hmm. I was having problems with one of my iPods recently that in the past I've fixed by simply wiping the hard drive. The DFU restore worked quickly for me once I was told about it but prior to that I had reformatted the drive using EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free). Perhaps that had some useful effects after all. It may also be a good idea to disable any real-time anti-virus products while you do the update in case they are interfering with the process.

  • IPod Classic Formatted Itself & Now Won't Sync

Help! Plugged my iPod classic in using normal cable & USB port, iTunes picked it up fine. I transferred some new stuff over on to it, then i noticed the device wasn't showing the 'conncected' screen like it normally does whilst plugged in, so i pressed the middle button, it then disconnected itself and reset showing the Apple logo but when it had loaded up, everything has been wiped off! Absolutely nothing left, all music, videos etc gone. When opened in My Computer, it's recognised as a device and is showing up empty. I've transfered my music back on to the device, but it keeps saying that the iPod cannot be synced because a duplicate file name was specified.
Can anyone help? I couldn't eject it from iTunes, but i unplugged it and all the data i've transfered over is there, but the friggin' thing won't sync! Please help!

    Hello ChewyEllis,
I would be frustrated as well if my iPod was not syncing.  I found a resource that I think would help in a situation like this.
I recommend following the steps in this troubleshooting assistant:

  • Ipod classic ejects as soon as its in!!

just bought a new ipod classic and the first time i put it in the sync was perfect and got all my music on. Now as soon as I put the ipod in it ejects itself as soon as connected. All my software is up to date, my cable is fine as my iphone works and i have reset the ipod. Any other ideas?

Well here on this forum, you are not talking to Apple but other users like yourself.
If you feel that your question wasn't answered properly then you can either escalate the question to the manager of the Apple Store or call Apple Customer Service to report this problem to them.

  • IPod Classic unmounts itself

I've had at least 3 iPods over the years, but the behavior or this iPod is unusual. It worked normally until I got my iPhone, which I also sync by connecting to my MacPro.
Typically, what happens is that I plug in my iPod and my iPhone for syncing which works correctly. (One device s plugged in via the USP on the back of my 30 inch Cinema Display and the other device is via the USB on the front of my MacPro.) Both devices show up in iTunes and the iPod mounts and appears on my desktop.
After syncing I disconnect the iPhone and leave the iPod connected. When I come back to my Mac later, the iPod has been unmounted and does not appear in iTunes or on my desktop. This has happened NUMEROUS times now.
This has only begun since I got my iPhone. Nothing else has changed. What's up?
    Mac OSX 10.6.3
    iTunes 9.1
    iPod Classic 120GB (2.0.1)
    iPhone 3GS 32GB (3.1.3)

You might try enabling disk mode on the Classic, that should keep it connected until you eject it (which would be required every time if you enable this option).

  • IPod Classic ejects after opening iTunes

Macbook Pro 17" 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo
    OSX 10.6.8
    iTunes 10.3.1 (55)
Does not make a difference if connected to powered USB hub or directly to the computer. iPod stays on the dekstop. When I open iTunes, the iPod Classic is Ejected.
I do not have this problem with an iPod 4 Generation color.
    So what's wrong?

I did everything the last message said in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/12487358#12487358.
The iPod still ejects after I open iTunes

  • My iPod is ejecting itself almost as soon as i connect it.

When connected, my third generation Nano briefly connects, but then ejects itself when plugged into my computer. The following text box appears:
"An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
    Any help???

Hey there - yup huge problem - I actually made some comments a while back and my apple user a/c got disabled 4 security reasons (maybe because my user was fixmyipod!) Anyway, had same prob for AGES, even took it to the apple retail store and they checked it - fine (they did reformat it for PC for me so this might also help y'all) and said it was our computer. Tried all the tricks - 5R's, latest version of Itunes etc - it worked fine on Mac's and some PC's but not ours. Saw a hotfix from another discussion thread which apparently worked for them, but didn't work for me because my version of Windows (XP Pro Service Pack 3) apparently already has that hotfix installed. Even found something on the Windows help website (sorry can't recall it was a while ago but sure you'll find it if you search a little) which suggested very CAREFULLY deleting some keys of some type (can't remember - I'm no expert on these things just followed instructions) - I tried this also but still the ipod would read for 1 second, then disconnect.
So...after much research, banging of head against brick wall etc, my husband who is also no real tech head at all, went into My Computer > Properties > etc until he got to Device Manager, and then he checked everything methodically and found that one of the USB controllers had a problem, he can't remember exactly what he did but voila (i think perhaps enable? or troubleshoot?) - next thing the ipod works absolutely fine now and it's as though the last few months of frustration never happened.
I personally think that lots of people are having this problem for a variety of reasons - our ipod was first used on a Mac, and when I first used it on our PC it asked me if I wanted to format it which I didn't, so I ejected it using the "Safely Remove Hardware" thingy at the bottom right of screen and from then on wouldn't work. I've read others who've got a new cable or used a different USB and it worked fine. It seems like you just have to try everything under the sun until you find what is gonna fix yours - hope this may bring at least 1 other person some help with what I know is frustration to the hilt!

  • HT1435 iPod Classic reboots itself every minute, is there a way to restore it?

After populating a new iPod Classic up to 50GB of 160GB space, it reboots itself every minute. No chance for iTunes to recognise so no way to reset/reload the device.
Any other way anyone can suggest? Mainly to delete the contents before replacing/returning to the shop.

Have you had a look at Troubleshooting here...

  • IPod classic restarts itself after connecting

After installation of iTunes 9 my iPod 120GB often wouldn't connect, but I think that happened to all of this iPod users. Today I plugged it in, but after showing "Connected. Eject to disconnect" for about 2 seconds, it restarted itself, showed an Apple logo for 10 seconds and disconnected. After that it connected itself again for two seconds, restarted, disconnected, connected, restarted, disconnected...
Also: there is some of my iTunes Library on the iPod, but only podcasts can be played.

  • Ipod classic restores itself, got unknown errors (-50 and -124)

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1433709&tstart=15
-posted this yesterday, did what the other users suggested.
I've been using this ipod for almost 3 months now.... and just recently i started having problems after...
    Already did the Rs.
    Already updated my firmware.
    Already formatted using windows.
    Already scanned for errors.
Already checked properties for quick removal of usb.
I don't know why i keep getting these errors. HELP!!!!
I'm really not enjoying my ipod.... I already had this replaced.. and it's still defective!

If your iPod is still under warranty, bring it in to Apple store for the Genius to have a look and you may get a replacement, as you only got 74 Hours of playing time.
The iPod Hardisk definitely need to be replaced, as can be seen by the high numbers of start/stop, in trying to get a good cluster to write or read. The Realloc numbers will grow, as failed write cluster are reallocated.
Others may not agree, but I suspect your Hardisk maybe affected by being close, (within half inch), to another elctromagnetic source, like a magnet or a handphone transmission signal.
    Have a nice day!

  • As soon as i connect my ipod classic it ejects itself

please, how do i stop my ipod from ejecting itself?

    Hi,
Apple support has fixed this issue for me as it seems to be a common issue with itunes 11.
Go to top left of itunes and select "show menu bar" - this will then display "file, edit, view..." menu on top left.
Go to view and select "show sidebar" and then connect your ipod.  This should now work for you.
Apparently with the hidden sidebar the very first time you connect it has a hard time recognising it.  After you follow the above steps and connect the first time you will no longer have this issue and you can connect the ipod and keep the sidebar hidden in the future.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my Ipod display a syncing message then eject itself without syncing?

I tried reseting my Ipod and reinstalling Itunes, neither of these fixed the problem

Do you have the enable disk use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab?  If not, go ahead and do so now as it should prevent your iPod from ejecting itself.
If you can't the iPod to remain iTunes long enough to enable this option, try manually forcing the iPod into Disk Mode first using the instructions in this Apple support document.
