Ipod Classic Firmware

I have been trying to restore my 80gb ipod classic for a while and I end up with the same results.
If the ipod isnt plugged in It works fine not screen messages although It's not saying I have no music on there, plug it into itunes and It says I have songs on the ipod, the computer finds the ipod no problem but when I go to restore it I get the message
"The ipod can't be restored the firmware file is not compatible.
once I dissconnect from my computer the screen goes white and the ipod asks me to set a launguage again and the process repeats.
I have tried to manually install the firmware update but no luck
help much appreciated.
I'm running software version 2.0.4 on a 4 month old imac so no out of date software I'd hope.

  • What's new in the iPod classic firmware v1.3?

I was just wondering because I hadn't noticed anything new.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't seem to find anything explaining what the firmware update is supposed to accomplish.
Also, is their a good reason why the 5th Gen Video iPod can't download rented movies? I know the new Classic can... this makes no sense.

  • Calling all iPod Classic owner who wants to use iPod Camera Connector

Dear All Honoured iPod Classic users a.k.a Photo Enthusiats,
Good day. I have recently bought an iPod Classic and iPod Camera Connector. As many of us may be into photography. I believe you may agree with me, it is more expensive to buy CF Card especially when you travelling on holiday or assignment. Moreover 1x 8GB CF card is never enough.
It is troublesome to bring your laptop together when you are travelling. So the best option to transfer all your photos from the camera is to use an iPod Classis and Camera Connector. This helps you to continue shooting without worrying running out of CF card for your next day shooting.
Currently iPod Classic has firmware v1.0.3 but iPod Camera Connector only works for iPod v.1.1 and above. So, in conclusion ... i urge every member here to send in their feedback to Apple ... logon to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html , so that Apple will act on it sooner rather than we play wait and see game.
So, logon today and send in your feedback. Who knows, tomorrow we will have the iPod Classic firmware updates that allow us to use iPod Camera Connector and this will solve our problem and save our money in CF card.
    Cheers! Happy New Year.

    Hi Josh,
Interesting web site. I holiday in the UK (my passport ran out in '91 and I haven't felt the need to replace it yet) and off to Shropshire in September.
Lovely, the UK is actually a surprisingly excellent place to retreat to, despite the occasional weather issues.

Yes, if you have the money, the B&W is great, but as I said, it's only a speaker.

All of the PURE products are excellent, good luck finding one to suit your needs!

  • My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs; what's up with this?

My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs...just silence. The play indicator shows that there's more data there but it's just blank. The songs play fine on iTunes and the data on my PC (Windows 7, iTunes 11.02.26). And it's not always the same song... It's like random. So it's got to be a bug in the iPod Classic firmware. Any help from Apple? Get a Zune?

Is it always the same songs that get cut off?  So the question is, after you do a Restore, when you re-sync songs back to the iPod, is it always the same songs that get cut off?  Or are they different songs each time?  Try doing a Restore and re-sync several times...
If they are the same songs, that points to a problem with the song files.  Maybe there is data corruption on your computer's hard drive, that caused the song files to become corrupted in a way that iTunes on the computer can still handle, but the iPod's software cannot.  The corrupted songs stay the same.
If they are different songs, that points to a problem on the iPod.  If a Restore does not fix the problem, then it may be data corruption caused by the iPod's hard drive becoming unreliable.  When you do a re-sync after Restore, the data is not being stored properly on the iPod due to a hardware problem.  It randomly affects different songs each time during the re-sync

  • ITunes 10.5.1 and iPod Classic

I've been reading all the posts on this forum over the last week, and it certainly makes one paranoid about iPod Classic problems. I'm already paranoid about iTunes problems, so here's my question: I'm currently on the latest 10.4.x iTunes version (Windows 7 64-bit), and I've been hesitating upgrading to 10.5.1 because (a) 10.4.x works reliably; (b) 10.5.x really doesn't add anything for the iPod Classic; and (c) I remember the disasterous 9.0 update that trashed iPod Classics.
So, is the upgrade to 10.5.1 (Windows 7 64 bit) reliable for interfacing with iPod Classics (latest 160GB versions), or is this the case of: if iTunes isn't broken, don't fix it?

As I recall from the days they actually updated iPod Classic firmware :-), that was always a distinct download from iTunes. My inclination, right now, is to update Quicktime but not iTunes, until and unless iTunes stops workings (there was one point with iTunes 10 where the iTunes store stopped working until I upgraded -- this was significant only as I was looking for a new podcast).
As for the iPod disk issues: It's scary reading these forums, but I take heart in the fact that the vast majority of users likely do not have disk problems. I take care of my iPod, attempt not to subject it to shocks, rarely run the battery down, so it may last. I also plan to pick up a spare before they discontinue them... at the last possible moment to get the longest disk life :-)

  • IPod classic 160GB freezing when plugged in

    Hi,
My new iPod classic started freezing when plugge in after the night, for example - it needs a restore, then works fine. Any ideas?
    Thank you for your help

Yikes!, it may means it is the iPod Classic firmware 2.0.4, that is hanging up the USB Host controller, which freezes your whole Computer.
Could be a partially updated firmware 2.0.4, (so kind of corrupted)
    Can you
    1. Open in finder <yourname>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
    2. Remove the .ipsw and .ipsw.signature for the version you are wanting to drop, in this case, 2.0.4
    3. Open iTunes and in Preferences uncheck automatic check for updates.
    4. Connect iPod and select restore. It will ask you if you want to check for newer update. Select Yes. All files will be removed and it will have to resync the entire library but it worked.
PS: try and do this in Diskmode.

  • My ipod classic crashes after about 2-3 days of being attached to my Kenwood KDC-248U receiver in Pickup.  There are 2700  songs but only get through the first 200   Apple has replaced the Ipod 3x and Kenwood says it is not a problem with the receiver.

My ipod classic crashes after about 2-3 days of being attached to my Kenwood KDC-248C receiver in my Pickup.  There are about 2700+ songs on the Ipod, but only get through the first 200 to 300 songs.  The screen fades, but there is still power and a charge.  Does anyone have a clue because I don't.?

There seem to be compatibilty isuue with KDC receiver and Ipod Classic firmware 1.1.2.
Here is an earlier post on the same problem.

  • Can`t synch IPOD classic after 1.0.2 firmware

I just boguht an Ipod 160 GB 2 days ago. Using the firmware 1.0 I could synch anbd load about 1gb of music. The itunes asked me to update the firmware to 1.0.2 and the problems started from here.
After update, the itunes freezes, and ask for not disconnect while the ipod is not synchronizing. If I ask for eject, notthing happens... Tried to delete some repeated songs, and it freezes, just one and it freezes.
in a forum i found a way to downgrading the firmware to 1.0.1 It freezes as well the itunes, of course i think i couldn`t even update the firmware to newer versions...
Any help is appreciated, sinde i`m not in the states

I didn't think the new ipod classics would work with Windows 2000. I quote from the technical specifications:
    Windows system requirements
    PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    iTunes 7.4 or later
I seems odd that your ipod worked with 1.0.1 then ran into a Windows 2000 issue with 1.0.2 I don't have an answer but it might be worthwhile to ask Apple about this.

  • What is the latest firmware for my ipod classic 80GB (MB147)

    Hi all,
I have not got access to iTunes.  I want to find out if there are software updates for my iPod classic.
The "About" area reveals the following information:
Serial number - not really relevant
    Model - MB147
    Version - 1.1.2 PC
This is the 80GB iPod which is capable of playing videos, if that helps further.
Thanks all in advance for reading and for any advice.
    Oren

I was a wee bit too tall for the Shire, a head taller than Gandalf.
Personally, I dont think so, not for 1.1.2, as the hardware, are not the same as the latest iPod Classic, currently, using firmware 2.0.4. Model BM147LL/A is taken off the shelf, about 4 years ago, but you may get them off eBay or Amazon.
I also read, from hifi forums, that the older iPod Classic sound better than the latest, unfortunately, they took down that comparison link from this guy "marc.heijligers"

  • Ipod classic 80GB now totally blank without firmware. help!

I have an 80GB Ipod classic used with my Macbook and itunes 9.1.
I tried restoring several times in itunes but it didn't help. So I eventually ended up in disk utility doing an erase and repair. Now I have a "blank" ipod that won't mount in itunes or enter disk mode through numerous attempts to restart, reboot, and plug/unplug it.
How do I get firmware back on it?
In disk utility it shows up at "74.3GB" Apple ipod media with a subdrive under it that just says untitled.
I searched the forums to no avail. Thanks for your help!

Update: Itunes doesn't recognize my Ipod now.

  • Downgrade iPod Classic from firmware 2.0.5 to 2.0.4

    Has anyone attempted this?
My new iPod classic came with firmware 2.0.5, but this firmware isn't compatible with my car stereo, which is the reason I purchased the iPod in the first place. Has anyone successfully downgraded?
I'm not sure if it's possible as I've heard that iPods that ship with this firmware have different internal components than the ones with 2.0.4.
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hi,
I am in the same situation : I have to go back from 10.2.0.5 to 10.2.0.4.
    Everybody is asking "why ?".
    For me :
    * My production database is 10.2.0.4
    * Nearly everyday, I have to duplicate it onto one or several other databases, some of them are now 10.2.0.5
    * These databases have all differents names (ORACLE_SID)
    * Only the RMAN DUPLICATE command is supported to restore a database from one database name to another database name (no RMAN RESTORE possible, or at least not recommended)
    * During the RMAN DUPLICATE process, a STARTUP RESETLOGS command is issued ; this does not work because a STARTUP UPGRADE should be issued, and there is no way to tell RMAN to use the UPGRADE clause
    * So I have to go back to 10.2.0.4 on every database. And I will not take any risk by downgrading : I will just de-install and re-install 10.2.0.4.
    * As you can imagine, I am very happy
    * If somebody could tell me I am wrong ...
    Regards,
    Laurent

  • Reproducible bug in iPod Classic latest firmware, crash after Contacts

    Reproducible bug:
You can't enter the contacts item on the iPod Classic 120gb with latest firmware (possibly affects newer iPods too), when you haven't synced any contacts..
However, if you put the contacts in the main menu (Settings -> Main Menu, then check 'Contacts'), you CAN enter it.. When exiting the Contacts menu (which says you have to sync contacts through itunes first) with the Menu button on the iPod, it instantly resets..
    Reproduced a number of times..

I'd suggest that you report this to apple by calling them or leaving them feedback at:

As if it is a firmware issue there's nothing that can be done until they release an updated edition.

  • HT1339 how to fix a firmware corrupt on ipod classic

when i try to restore my ipod classic to factory settings i get an error message saying cannot update firmware corrupt. how do i fix this?

I'm having the same problem as you (I think). My iPod Classic 160 gb got corrupted and I can't put songs on it. I tried resetting the iPod, changing connections, and completely reinstalling iTunes, but nothing has worked yet.
When I plug it into a usb drive on my Laptop (OS: Windows 7) it says "You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" If I click cancel, nothing happens and I can usually go to iTunes. If I click Format disk, a new window appears with many options (Capacity, File system, Allocation unit size, etc.). If I click start (no matter what options I chose), a message appears saying "WARNING: Formatting will erase ALL data on this disk. To format the disk, click OK. To quit, click CANCEL". Sounds scary right? None the less, a message always appears before the formatting can do anything saying "Windows was unable to complete the format."
When ITunes opens, a message appears saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I can click "ok" and the click the restore button, but after a while the load fails and it says The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1439).
This is really irritating! I just want to listen to music on the subway and bus! If anyone has any ideas or tips that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Need to get firmware 2.0.4 on to my ipod classic 120GB (on PC). Currently running 2.0.1. How do I do this please?

    Hi there
I'm trying to hook up my ipod classic 120GB (serial no ends in 2C7 so think its 6th Gen?) to my Audi in car entertainment system. When I hook it up the car is telling me the ipod is not compatible. I think I'm using the right cable as the car is only 4 days old and the cables came with it. When I check the system requirements in the car manual, it states that Classics are compatible running on 2.0.4. My ipod is on 2.0.1. Itunes tells me there are no software updates pending. How do I get my ipod to run on 2.0.4 firmware?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Paul

Oh, and I've also tried to hook up a different ipod (8GB Ipod touch)which worked on the same cable. So dont think its an error with the cable or the car!?
