IPod classic for OSX tiger 10.4.11

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew what ipod classic generation would be compatible with my apple emac running osx 10.4.11 tiger?

Yes; for best results, restore it on the Mac before syncing it.

  • Is it possible to use iPod Classic with OSX 10.3?

I bought my dad an iPod classic for Christmas and it was a perfect gift cause he has tons of music and just my old 3rd Gen. ipod to use. He clearly needed an update. The problem is that he uses my old iMac G4 that is running OSX 10.3. Is there anyway that i can get this iPod to work with 10.3 or do i have to spend more money to upgrade to tiger? any help is great, thanks so much!
    ~joseph

    Joseph,
The system requirements for the iPod classic include Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later. You can upgrade to Tiger or if your dad's computer will support it, you can get Leopard.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Ive had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been using my laptop to sync songs from iTunes.  Unfortunatley, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do i now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

I've had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been connecting it to my laptop to sync any downloaded tunes from iTunes.  Unfortunately, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do I now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

If an iPod is set to update automatically it will be associated with a particular library. If you connect that iPod to a different computer or a different library on the same computer you get the the message you are referring to. "The iPod "iPod Name"is linked to another another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library". To use an iPod on multiple computers you change the update method to "manually manage songs and playlists". You can also use multiple iPods on a single computer so you will be able to connect both of your iPods to your existing iTunes. Connect the new iPod and follow the on screen instructions, iTunes will open and update your iPod.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Returning Broken iPod Classic for new Product

I have a defective 30GB iPod classic. I bought a new one, but still have the old one. Will Apple take the old one as part of a trade in for a new product?

As part of a recycling program they will give you 10% off towards the purchase a an iPod at an Apple Store.
Or you can sell it for parts.

  • Using iPod Classic for Time Machine or Startup Disc

I have enabled my iPod to be used as external disc on iTunes. iPod icon does show up on desktop, but is not one of my options as backup volume for Time Machine, nor as an option for startup disc. Any ideas?

It can't be used as an ext drive for Time Machine.
Also, unless you are using an Intel Mac, you cannot use it as a bootable drive via USB. Only Firewire drives can be used as bootable drive on non Intel Macs and of course the iPod Classic is not a Firewire drive.

  • Help w iPod Classic for an Electronics Illiterate User

Hello and thank you all. I have read over the manuals I've downloaded, I have tried asking for help from those I know who have iPods, and last night at work when I proclaimed my "giving up" finally and I was going to just throw my iPod away, somebody mentioned to check the forums cuz there are always people who may know and have the answers to my simple issue and are more then willing to help.
So, let's see. I think you'd consider it an iPod classic, given to me by my college roommate who's gone for an internship and he's one that has to have the latest and newest gadget or piece of electronic equipment to hit the market. He can't believe how old my cellphone is, or the fact I never had an iPod until he gave me this old one of his, I don't have TEVO and you know, think it's the unknowing that holds me back and this being a prime example of why. So long ago, he gives me his old iPod and helps me set it up and get it loaded with items I think I'll use and find worthy of the time spent doing it all. Cool, and yes, I have found it great, but still keeping with the basics, it gets me by until now. So, I need help, cuz recently was laying out on my deck and drop it, and the screen is cracked and I am now completely in the dark of what to do.
Is it possible or is there a way to download all the items on the iPod back onto my pc so I don't lose everything he put on there for me? Some of the songs and items are very personal for me after losing both my parents within a month of each other and I just can't part with it knowing there might have been a way to save all that's held on memory and with me just about to give up and throw it away because of my frustration mostly, I thought I'd have to ask. Now, remember I am pretty computer and electronics illiterate and if help is offered, let's play "connect the dots" or "paint by number" so I don't feel as though I am wasting your time at all and simply because I don't have any idea what is what or how to do it for that matter. You know what I mean? Maybe teach me like a five year old if anything, but please help. Somebody at work last night knowing me and my frustration thought there'd be a cord or some wire to put from the iPod to my pc and it'd reload my items back, but I have no idea cuz I don't know how my old roommate set it all up or how he did anything at all when he made this for me.
So, there it is, my challenge I guess, thank you all for your time and help with this for me.

    Hello watrsprtn,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
First of all, in order to copy the songs back to your computer, or a computer, you will need an iPod USB cable just like this one to be able to connect your iPod to your computer.
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • High Quality music player for OSX Tiger

    Hi
I am looking for some help :-
I have recently picked up a second hand imac g5, 1.8ghz, 2gb ram, 160gb hdd, runnning OSX Tiger
I am trying to find a decent music player, capable of playing alac & flac, up to 24/96khz
I have managed to find something called "Play" however, to me, its not that good
My second issue is how do I set the mac to out via USB in the music files native format, I have a variety of files range from flac/alac 16/44.1 up to 24/96
I kind find a setting in midi to change the output, however, that appears to just fix the output rate rather than play the native rate
    Hoping someone can help me

I don't know much about those formats, but have you checked Audacity?

  • Changing iPod Classic for iPod Touch

    Hello,
My dad went to USA a little while ago, and while being there I asked him to bring a iPod touch for me. He sayed he would, but when he arrived in Holland he didn't brought the Ipod Touch but the iPod Classic.. He sayed he will look how to change it, but he still didn't find a way to do that.
Now I searched a little bit too but I didn't find any e-mailaddresses to mail to or something. So I'll ask it here:
Does anybody knows if it is possible to change a Ipod bought in San Fransisco (America) in Holland (Europe)? And if it is, who/what do I have to contact? If it isn't, what do you recommand me to do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luc

Does anybody knows if it is possible to change a Ipod bought in San Fransisco (America) in Holland (Europe)?
Sorry but no, it will almost certainly not be possible to return a US-purchased iPod in Europe. The iPod would in all probability have to be returned to the US Apple Store (presuming that it was purchased at the Apple Store), and by the time you paid for shipping and the probable restocking fee - 10% if the package was opened - and the iPod would have to arrive back at the Apple Store returns center within 14 calendar days from the date it was purchased - you'd probably be better off just selling the Classic and putting the money toward an iPod touch.
    Regards.

  • Ipod classic 160 , iMac tiger 10.4.11 , itunes 9.1 not syncing & freezes up

Im ready to yank my freakin hair out. I have called and talked with itunes support and got nowhere. I have downloaded , upgraded , restored and even returned 2 ipod classics to see if they were the problem.
When I sync it gets to about 1-3 gb and freezes everything (ipod , itunes , computer) I have put up with everyone acting like its something Im doing. It always ends up saying ( cant read or write to the ipod ) This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!! I have 15,500 songs and cant use them mobile at all, this *** after my girlfriend spending $280.
What is going on?????? , and is there going to be an itunes up date for this sooner than later or should I return it before its to late? A Best Buy saleman said something about many complaints about this and that I should be able to expect an update soon... so I have a new 160 sitting in a box Im afraid to open.

I'm not sure that if this is exactly the same problem you're having but it sounds similiar...
I have just purchased a new ipod classic 160, and have attempted to sync it with my itunes 9.1 library. It managed to sync about 3 Gb and then an error message came up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I then tried manually transferring the music and was successful with some of the music, but with other tracks the same error message came up. I performed a restore on the iPod, as I initially formatted it on a PC, not my Mac, and thought this might be the problem. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. As far as I can see there is no pattern to the tracks that it won't load on (well not to my eyes anyway). I would be grateful for any suggestions as I'm off traveling in a few days time without my laptop and can't imagine myself without my music collection!

  • I've had my iPod classic for almost 3 years now

    Hi,
I've had my iPod classic 160 GB for almost 3 years now & I recently bought
"Live at Wembley" for it. Instead of it being located under the L's its located under
the I's!!!! Can you pls help me fix this issue? If so, how?

Your situation is not good, then. You will need to erase your hard drive and start anew. Boot from your installer DVD for the OS X version you have installed on it.
I hope you have backups because it's not likely you can backup at this point.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • J2SE SDK for OSX Tiger

Well, this seems like a good place to make my post...
My problem is quite simple. I can't find a JDK for my Mac running OSX Tiger. Links on the internet always lead me to Apple's Developer Connection, but their 1.4.2 developer tools will only run on Panther.
Maybe I'm missing something crucial. And I'd really appreciate your help. I've downloaded the latest J2SE runtimes, etc. All I need now to get started is the tools to compile and run some tutorials!
I've tried using NetBeans, but I can't get it to run the tutorials at java.com at all. Who's got some good advice?

Check the Apple Computer, Inc. developer download site:
    http://developer.apple.com/java/download/
It shows they posted Java 2 SE 5.0 Release 3 on 11/15/05.
    Enjoy!
