IPod Classic higher than 240gb?

Most of us have seen the iPOd Classic on Ebay with a storage capacity of 240gb.  I took the chance earlier this year when my iPod Classic 160gb was running out and I ordered a 240gb from some dude in Hong Kong - costing about $250.  I have been more than satisfied and very happy with the device.  I still have about 90gb left as of this post.
Can anyone comment if they have seen a storage capacity of more than 240gb??

On the volume thing, does your friend adjust the volume of songs in iTunes with the volume adjustment (gain) under the options when you do a Get Info on a track? In other words, you can select a song, or a bunch of songs, then Get Info and there is a volume slider to adjust songs volume playback up or down. If your friend does that, then he has probably already adjusted the volume up so high that when he tried to turn it up on the iPod louder, the song is already as near full volume and won't go any louder.
How that volume adjust works is that is only tells the iPod or iTunes to automatically adjust the playback volume without you having to do it manually. It doesn't actually change the track at all. So if you are listening to the iPod and you set the volume at about 1/4 the way on the bar, if you get to a song where you have the volume adjusted to play louder, although you do not see it on the iPod's screen, the iPod actually adjusts the volume slider up to whatever level you set. Let's say it turns up the volume to 3/4 volume. Now when you adjust the volume on your iPod up, from 1/4 to 1/2 you hear a volume increase but really you are adjusting from 3/4 to full blast on the iPod due to the song's volume adjustment setting. After 1/2, since the song is already at full volume, adjusting the slider up further does nothing.
Hope that made sense.

  • Can I change video sizes for my ipod classic?

I want to play all my videos for my ipod classic, but some are the wrong dimensions and I want to know if That's fixable.

There are no free games for an iPod Classic other than those built into when you bought it.
For games that you can purchase go to the iTunes Store, then click App Store, then iPod Click Wheel Games.

  • IPod Classic click wheel 'covering' wearing away?

    Hi!
This is not an issue with software or any problems connecting - it is simply an issue with the design!
I recently bought a new iPod classic - less than 1 month ago.
It went for its first outing today, and over the course of the day, what appears to be a 'covering' over the click wheel has started to wear away?
Is this normal behaviour or is this a fault?
It leaves a residue on my fingers when I rub it harshly?
I have never owned an iPod classic before - my previous ipods have had the shiny click wheel!
l've attached a photo to show you what's happened - any input would be great... has anyone else's done this or should i go about claiming for an exchange?! The click wheel functions are not affected.
    Thanks!

As far as I can tell there have been no updates to make the classic click wheel more sensitive. NONE of my older 5.5 skins are acceptable though the iSkin evo3 for 5.5G is the best of the sorry lot. I bought a 3-pack (white, black, blue) of the new thin iSkin for the 6G. I find these acceptable but there is no screen cover. It isn't perfect but acceptable to me.
iSkin has just introduced a new evo for 6G. Haven't tried it.
Just as a side note, I find the iSkin for the 6G a bit unresponsive after taking a shower. To me, it would seem that a little skin oil helps responsiveness. Go figure.

  • Which apple id associated with iPod classic

    Hi
The story will help explain the question.....
Teacher has iPod classic stolen from her classroom. It is handed in some days later. All the teachers music has been wiped off and other music has been put on.
Can she tell which apple id the classic has been linked with? It may help with the recovery of other items which have been stolen and not recovered.
    Thanks

I'm not aware of any method for finding which iTunes/computer put the music onto a specific iPod Classic, other than to look at the iTunes Library and compare it with the iPod. If the music is the same, track for track, that would suggest a match. Connecting the iPod to the iTunes Library that it was Synced with would result in another Sync, thereby confirming the suspect Library.
But that obviously isn't practical as you will not have access to the potential computers involved, except ones at the school. In reality of course, the culprit probably used their own home computer rather than a school one.
I guess the only consolation is the return of this particular iPod.

  • Building a 240gb IPOD classic 6th generation???

I have been doing a lot of research and I haven't found an exact answer to my question. Right now I have a 6th generation 80GB ipod classic. I have run out of storage and I really need 240GB. I bought a rebuilt 240GB 7th generation Ipod from ebay a few days ago for ($274), I received it and I dont like the fit and finish of it. It looks like the wheel and faceplate are aftermarket replacements so it does not sit flush against the rear case and neither does the wheel to faceplate, there is an excessive gap around the circumference of the wheel and the faceplate, and the screen flickers at times, so I am going to return it. I primarily use my ipod for mountain biking and cycling so it gets exposed to sweat and rain. My 80GB has never failed under these conditions for 5+years, and I think this ebay version will fail very quickly.
I would like to know what are all the parts needed to make a 240GB hard drive work in my 6th generation ipod classic. I know if I install a 240GB hard drive in my 6th generation ipod it will only read 128GB. So can I replace the logic board in my ipod with a 7th generation ipod? I can find the 7th generation logic boards for ($60+) on ebay, then buy the 240gb hard drive ($86) and 6th generation (thick)160GB rear cover ($10) new 850mAh battery ($10). That would be a $166 upgrade..... Is that all I would need? Would the logic board be a direct swap, or would I need a different connector, screen, etc? I would prefer to just modify my 6th generation ipod since I know it works and it seems like it could be the cheapest way, and I don't need two ipods so I feel like it would be a waste to buy another one.
My other option is to buy a new 160GB 7th generation ipod classic ($230), and buy the 240gb hard drive ($86) and 6th generation (thick)160GB rear cover ($10). That would put me around $326....
I would prefer not to take another gamble and buying another ipod off of ebay, so I would like to keep it to these two options.....  If buying a 7th generation is the only way, could I then put the 160gb hard drive in my 6th generation? Would it still only read 128gb max? Would the hard drive be the only thing I would need to swap? From what I read it appears all the thin (6th and 7th) ipod classics used the same hard drive connector. To make the 160gb hard drive work, would I again need a 7th generation logic board?
Do I need a new headphone jack? Ive heard that it may need to be replaced but I dont remember for what ipod versions. Does this apply to my thin 6th generation, or the thin 7th, or neither?
Could someone please give me a complete parts list for making a 240gb 6th generation AND a 240gb 7th generation. Thanks!

You obviously know A LOT about this already.  I hear the "iPod classic" is known to be VERY difficult to pry open.  If your current iPod classic is working well, do you REALLY need more than 80GB of music when you go mountain biking.  If you replaced it with a new iPod classic, do you really need more than 160GB of music.
I have a smart playlist, where I start out with ALL of my music, but exclude things I don't usually want on my iPod, such as Holiday Music, Classical Music, Soundtrack Music, etc.  For my smaller capacity flash-based iPod, I have a smart playlist that starts with ALL of my music, then randomly selects a subset of songs that fits below the capacity limit of that iPod.  In both cases, I manage my iTunes library to fit the iPod, instead of making expensive and potentially damaging upgrades to my iPod to fit my iTunes library.
I understand that some folks just like doing these upgrades for the sake of doing the upgrade, and I can certainly understand that...
Here's another high-cool-factor approach.  Replace the hard drive with a standard Compact Flash card (Type II) on an adapter.  For example
    http://www.amazon.com/Komputerbay-128GB-Professional-Compact-Extreme/dp/B008O7N0 W6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
(There is one customer review of it being used in an iPod.)
It's expensive, but less than any of your total upgrade costs.  I have a much older 4th gen iPod with a Compact Flash card on an adapter, and here are the benefits I see.  It's significantly lighter than the same iPod with a hard drive, especially if it has a double-platter "thick" hard drive.  You can keep your iPod's sleek "thin" profile.  It uses less battery power, because no moving parts.  It is more shock resistant for the same reason, which I'm sure is an advantage for mountain biking.  There is no "hard drive spin-up" delay; songs always start playing instantly (and no faint hum and vibration when the hard drive is spinning).  I did not do any timing test, but I think it syncs faster.

This is good for me but what happened?
I don't understand the question...  Did something happen that you think should not have happened?
It took such a long time to sync, because iTunes was converting songs with bit-rate higher than 128 kbps "on the fly" while syncing.  That takes much longer than just syncing the songs.
Also, since you have so much space on your iPod (compared to the size of your music library), you should not use that "convert to 128 kbps AAC" setting.  For songs that are encoded higher than 128 kbps, the conversion reduces sound quality.  You may want to uncheck Sync Music and Apply, to remove the songs on the iPod currently, and then sync it all again without the "convert" setting checked this time.

  • I had to reinstall iTunes and lost the library, so I used what I had on my hard drive, but I have much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes library. If I synch now will it delete all that extra music from my iPod?

I recently had to reinstall iTunes on my PC (Windows 7) and lost most of the library. I restored with what I had on my hard drive on the PC, but there is much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes current library. I'm worried that if I synch now it will delete the extra music from my iPod, some of which I don't have available to re-rip etc.. Will this happen, or is it safe to synch more content without losing from the iPod what is already there but not in my iTunes library on the PC?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

How do I get the volume on my ipod classic to the same level for all songs?  Some songs are a lot lower than others.

Coverflow in iTunes is sorted by Album Artist whereas coverflow on the iPod classic is sorted by Artist. Unfortunately, there is no way to set this on your iPod. This is such a fumble on Apple's part that I'm beginning to think they're becoming another Microsloth with buggy firmware and products.

  • I hooked my ipod classic to my computer it told me to restore. I did . Than it synched up to itunes library and it didn't save anything. Now my  ipod is blank and won't store anything and it says that an error 1433 was detected. What does this all mean? I

  • Why is capacity on my ipod classic is significantly lower than expected?

I have a new 80 GB ipod classic. I loaded it with about 4 GB's or so of music in the first couple of days. Then on the the third day when I tried to add more music, it erased everything off the ipod that I had loaded previously and replaced it with the new music I had added by CD to my itunes library. Not knowing what to do, I "restored" the ipod by using the restore button then sync'd again with the result that all my music was back including the original music. The problem: it's as if the first 6 GB's of space is still used up and the scale on my summary tab shows the total capacity of my ipod as 74.31 GB's with only 5 GB's of music and other on the ipod. What is taking up the other space? It should be showing a total capacity of 80 BG with 75 GB's left. What's up? Any body know?

All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.
