Ipod classic in 3rd generation ihome

will my ipod classic work in my 3rd generation ihome? i got the ihome last year and i have the ipod mini insert in it right now. Should i get the ipod classic insert? will that make it work? because right now the ipod plays but no sound comes out, but my mini works in it.

Not to be rude, but how many times are you going to post this? As has been pointed out at least twice, there have been lotos of reports that third party accessories, including those made by iHome, don't work properly with the newer iPods. You should check the iHome website for compatability with your particular iHome device (they make a bunch of them, so without a model number, it's kind of hard to give you any better info). If the website says that the model iHome device you have is compatible with your iPod, then yes, you should get the correct insert to avoid damage to your iPod.

One week ago, i bougth an Ipod Nano of 3rd Generation.
And still cant get it work.I already installed the LAST version of Itunes. And when i connect my ipod, itunes doesnt recognize it, and in the taskbar in windows, it says, new usb mass storage, then i click, and start searching something, then it says that it havent been found, that i insert a disk with xp label.
I had tried resetting and nothing.im using Windows XP Pro 2002, with SP2.
What would be the problem please help me!

I have the same problem except through Vista. If iTunes isn't on my computer everything is listed as fine in windows device manager but as soon as I install iTunes it installs a problem driver for the iPod and device manager lists it with a yellow icon with an exclamation mark. Reset the iPod
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

There is no way to transfer ipod-to-ipod. Look for a 3rd party program, such as Yamipod, that will let you pull the music from your old iPod to your computer.
You really should be backing up your data on your computer.

This may indicate you have a 2nd generation. Please check the model number on the back and post back. If it is A1288, it is a 2nd gen.

My ipod touch 8gb 3rd generation keeps dropping wifi. Doesn't matter where I am - happend ALL the time. Almost useless now except for all of my songs! We don't have any other problems with other computers in our house. I have downloaded all of my songs from itunes directly to my ipod (I know, I wish I hadn't) so I hate to reset or I will lose them all. I have never downloaded any updates (I know, I know!) so could this be my problem? How do I find downloads and what do I need? Please help if you can!

The reset may help with the WiFi issue, but you'll have to do the reset to be sure. It does seem to cure a wide variety of issues. At some point you should be connecting the iPod to your computer/iTunes account, otherwise you risk losing all of your music and other content if you have a problem with your iPod.

Can I use a usb data cable from a classic ipod with my 3rd generation iTouch?

I can't find the usb data cable for my 3rd generation iTouch but I have an old cable from my old ipod classic. It appears to be similar but is it electrically identical for syncing and charging or not?

If it looks the same it should be OK. Some older iPods used Firewire so it the cable has an extra connector (more that the dock connector at one end and a USB connector on the other end) do not use it.

Ok so yesterday i had an ipod nano that wa snew and i had already had itunes downloaded on the computer. I found out that itunes could not recognize the drive and i had to reformat and update my ipod to get it to recognize. Well it worked. The problem i have is i just got another ipod (a 3rd generation) and when i plug it into the computer my computer recognizes it but itunes wont. I dont remember everything i did to the nano to reformat and update but i am wondering if i run the updater i installed yesterday, would that help? WOuld itunes recognize it? Also can i use the updater i downloaded yesterday for the nano and update the 3rd generation one?

Ask around about fanatical 3G iPod owners, and my name is at the top of the list. I love it. I think the newer models are all serious downgrades over the 3G. I bought an iPod to carry my music, so it doesn't need color screens, or the ability to display photos or movies. What it does need to be is solid, and mine is. Dispite the whole battery flap, I still regularly get over 4 hours of continuous play. It has never once frozen or given me any evil startup icons. And those glowing buttons always get a second look from iPod "newbies" with their 4G, photo, mini, nano, with Video models.
"Back in the day", there were tons of issues with folks connecting the 3G to USB. As you seem to have found a few of them, I'm going to share some info to make your lives easier. The 3G was the first iPod that (nominally) supported USB. It was really an afterthought tacked on to a firewire device to help market it to the Aindows community (me at the time). It never seemed to work that well on Windows computers. iPods would get lost because XP recycled USB resources, and iTunes became confused. They would only load a small number of songs at a time. Then there's the whole USB 1.1 vs. USB 2 thing...
Almost without fail, the solution to a USB related issue was "use firewire". It really did clear up most of teh problems. And for those that would like to be part of the best group of iPod companions, the advice is still sound. Your 3G iPod will be much better behaved if you get an inexpensive Adaptec firewire card.

ipod classic 4th generation error 1429, can't reset via ipod itself, yet when itunes regonized ipod, it freezes when trying to restore it. ipod also have a folder with explanation mark icon. Windows 7 also wants to format the drive on ipod. Help as I just seem to be stuck in a rut with it!

Yes it does, one that is functioning properly.
Before investing in one to just use this as a portable external drive, I'd look around on the internet for a low priced portable drive instead.

No, you can't. You may be able to get compatible application versions by downloading the current ones to a computer, signing into the iTunes Store with the same Apple ID on the device, and trying to download them there.

Ipod videos with 3rd generation.

every time i go to use itunes with my ipod nano 3rd generation, i go to movies or TV shows and "add folder" and "add file", & every time i add a file with videos in it itunes dosnt bring them up, and the ones that do come up on itunes like refuse to go onto my ipod. i press "sync" and it says that it syncs, but when it syncs too quickly. so i find out that it actually hasnt synced onto my ipod. itunes wont convert them either, it just like ignores the fact that i have videos there. its fustrating me. i just downloaded quicktime but just realised i alredy had the needed version of it. i have the newest itunes aswell, since i just got my ipod at christmas. someone help. im in a bit of a pickle.

Sorry, there is no 8gB, 3rd generation. You have a 2nd gen and it can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1
