IPOD Classic - memory view in I-Tunes

Have 80GB listed in memory as "Other" but there is only music on the IPOD. Tried viewing content of IPOD as a USB devide but can't see what this "other" content is

I had this problem with my iPod Classic a few months ago. I ended up reverting my iPod back to factory settings.

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • I have a ipod classic which i purchased 2007,can i use the new apple tv dock to play my itunes video clips via my ipod classic to view on my tv

hi there, i have a ipod classic purchased in 2007,with the release of the new Apple TV dock in Australia,my question to anyone out there including apple suooort staff,CAN I USE THIS NEW DEVICE TO VIEW MY VIDEO CLIPS I DOWN LOADED FROM ITUNES ON MY TV INSTEAD OF BUYING THE APPLE COMPONANT CABLES....THANKS  EDWARD

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer.  How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

  • Ipod Classic TV viewing?

I have an IPOD Classic and have downloaded music videos from Itunes (legally) Would like to view on my large TV but don't know the proper cables. My TV has USB port as well as an unused HDMI inputs. Any thoughts as to the proper cable and settings on the Ipod?
    Thanks,

There are/were two different cable sets made for the iPod classic: iPod AV Component cable with 5 phono connectors R,G,B (Video) L, R (Audio) or iPod AV Composite cable with 3 phono connectors V (Video) L, R (Audio). Composite to SCART is a common 3rd party adaptor.
I've no idea if there is actually a way to hook up an iPod classic to HDMI. There is a 30-pin dock connector to AV/HDMI kit but that appears to support iOS devices only.

  • Ipod Classic not responding in i-tunes

My ipod classic is coming up with an error message in my i-tunes account stating there is a problem with this drive and that my ipod is not responding.
Also, before I plug my ipod into the computer the itunes is working fine then when I plug it in, it goes to a hault and this error message shows up.
I can't figure out why or what to do. We have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and the same things are still happening.
I'm not sure if it is the new version of itunes that's the problem or if it's because our computer is now windows 8.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping someone else has maybe come across this issue and would be able to help me.
    Thanks!

  • Older iPod Classic 3D Views

I'm working on a project for school, displaying the history of the iPod. I see where there are 3-D views of the current iPod Classic, Nano, Shuffle, and Touch on their perspective pages in the store. Does anyone know where I could get 3-d views of all the older iPods? Or at least some good hi-res images? Thank you.

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

  • Ipod classic 160 not visible in tunes 12

My perfectly functioning ipod classic 160 gb is invisible to itunes. It shows on the ipod screen it is connected and it shows on the imac screen as an ipod. In itunes it does not exist. It worked perfectly with itunes before the upgrade. I have seen the device bar and my iphone 5s displays there normally and functions perfectly. When only the ipod is plugged in, there are no devices in the bar and the itunes menu for device is greyed out.

If you have not, disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  With iTunes running, connect iPod to a direct USB port by itself.  This is to rule out a problem a conflict between connected USB devices, or a lack of power on the USB bus for all connected USB devices.  If you already tried that, or it does not help...
Since the iPod appears initially in iTunes, the problem may be a "feature" that recent Windows PCs, with Windows 8 and USB 3.0 ports, seem to have.  It is an "energy saver" setting that turns off full power to the USB port if the connected device is deemed "inactive" by Windows.  When you connect the iPod, iTunes does its initial sync for a few seconds.  That's when the iPod is seen in iTunes.  After the sync, iTunes unmounts the iPod's disk.  If Windows considers the iPod to be inactive and turns off full power to the USB port, that is when the iPod disappears from iTunes.
If this is the cause, you may be able to go into Windows Control Panels and turn OFF this feature (so USB ports always stay at full power).  If that does not work, or you can't find such as setting...
Alternately, you can Enable disk use on the iPod.  With disk use enabled, the iPod's disk remains mounted by the system until you Eject the iPod in iTunes, so the port remains at full power.  This may be difficult, if you don't have enough time to click on the iPod in iTunes and check the box for Enable disk use on the iPod Summary settings screen (and click Apply).  I'm assuming you have your iPod set to automatically sync your entire iTunes music library.  If so, you can extend the iPod's initial sync (when you connect it) by making a significant change to your iTunes music library (before you connect it).  If you happen to have some music CDs that you need to import into iTunes, that would work.  Add new songs to your iTunes library, and then connect iPod.  If you use the Sync only checked items setting, you can uncheck a large number of songs in your music library, connect to sync, then recheck the songs, connect to sync.  Making iTunes sync a few dozen songs during the initial sync should give you enough time to go to the iPod's Summary settings screen, and check the box for Enable disk use (and click Apply).
If that does not work (or the iPod still disappears quickly even when there are changes to sync), the cause something else.  FYI - It's not because iTunes 12 does not support discontinued iPods.  I have an 3rd gen "classic" iPod from 2003, and it works fine with iTunes 12.

  • Ipod classic memory "other"

I have an ipod classic 120 G. When I attach it to itunes it shows 1.4GB as "other". How can i remove this

Depending on how much data your 120Gb iPod has on it, Neil's suggestion to restore it may not make any difference. The figure for "Other" is comprised of all data on the iPod that is not Audio, Video or Photos. This includes all artwork cached on the iPod, games and of course the iPod's database of your media. I've estimated that this type of "other" data is generally 1%-1.5% of the size of the Audio, Videos & Photos. My correctly functioning 160gb iPod is pretty full and has over 2Gb of data reported as other by iTunes. That said, "other" also includes any data that you have placed on the iPod in disk mode, any temporary copies of the library that haven't been removed, or any media that the iPod database has lost track of following an incomplete sync. If your iPod is nearly full don't bother to restore. If it's mostly empty then go for it...

  • 120GB iPod Classic Memory

Does anyone know if the new 120GB Classic has the same 32MB of cache, or ram, as the 80 and 160GB models? I'm hoping they've increased it, as insufficient cache memory may have caused the random pauses and gaps problem with lossless files, as discussed here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1274016&tstart=0
I've already checked the new User Guide. It doesn't say. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure where you saw this, but everyipod.com clearly states that they do not know how much RAM is in the original Classic 80/160. Clicking the "onboard RAM" link under the Classic specs reveals the following:
*No official information regarding the amount of onboard RAM for skip protection is available, but as the previous 80 GB model had 64 MB of memory, these models likely have at least 64 MB of memory, if not 128 MB. When additional information is available, this will be updated.
As far as how much RAM the new 120GB has, I've yet to find any posted figure. However, numerous posts to this forum indicate that the original Classics (80 & 160GB models) had only 32MB of onboard RAM, not 64.

  • Just got new PC with Picasa 3 but worried it might not be compatible with my photos previously synced to ipod-classic.  Any advice?

Just got a new PC (Windows 7 with Picasa 3 installed).  Not used Picasa before & worried this might not be compatible with i-tunes if I connect my ipod-classic.  Have reinstalled i-tunes on new PC but scared that all my existing photo files on the ipod might not stay the same if I connect the ipod to the PC.  Any advice please?

I know that they are on my computer. I'm saying, they're in ONE folder titled "iPhone" with separate folders in it titled by the dates the photos were added. I put them ALL in one folder thinking that the photos were listed in chronological order, not starting from 001 for each folder, and not there are duplicates, not of the pictures, but of the names. Ex. There's a picture of me titled 001.jpg and another of a friend titled 001 (1).jpg. See what I'm saying?
If I were to do backup, which I do not know how to do, I think it'd backup from THAT location where all my photos sync when I plug in my iPhone and the dialog box pops up. I'm not trying to get the pictures back onto my phone, I just want to make a 'backup' of ALL of them, at once, to replace the other folder with the duplicates, on my PC.

  • I have a iPad were I have opened I tunes match ect linked to my pc I have since found my old ipod classic which I have loads of music on but that was all linked to a mac which I don't have anymore, is there anyway I can sync them both

I have a iPad were I have opened I tunes match ect linked to my pc I have since found my old ipod classic which I have loads of music on but that was all linked to a mac which I don't have anymore, is there anyway I can sync them both without loosing my music, if I plug my ipod into PC it won't read it

You need to transfer the music from your iPod on to your iTunes library on your PC, since that is where you are currently syncing and where you are signed into iTunes Match.  It doesn't matter that you were previously syncing it with a Mac, and you won't need to reinstall iTunes on your PC.  But you will have to use 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer any music not purchased from the iTunes store from your iPod to your iTunes library.  Here's another guide on this, which is shoter and you may find easier to follow: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.  Also, if you're using iTunes 11, go to View>Show Sidebar.  This will make it easier to follow along with these guides.
