IPod Classic Music deleted

So I have a old 80GB iPod Classic so i can look at the music on there going through my computer. i recently brought a MacBook Air and wanted to transfer the music from my iPod to my mac without syncing it as yet because a lot of my music is from old cd's and not considered a purchase so it wouldn't transfer over.
I tried through the way that i use to all the time and now my iPod is stating that there is no music on there but i go and have a look through my computer or the mac equivalent and it is still on there.
Is there a way that i can transfer my music off my iPod then restore it then add it all back on?
I have 11205 songs and have collected it from since i was 13 and i dont want to loose it.

Finder has a user preference to show hidden files?  Couldn't find it.  But that CNET article describes a method that seems to be your way (using a utility to show hidden files).

If you can't copy off the data using Finder, there is probably serious data corruption on the iPod's disk.
Have you tried doing a Repair Disk on the iPod's disk using Disk Utility, or a third-party utility (such as TechTool Pro).  NOTE:  It's possible for an attempt at repair to make things worse.

  • How to put my iPod classic music onto my iPad?

Hi I was wondering how to move my iPod classics music on to my new iPad. Thanks.

You will need to sync your music via your computer's iTunes, you can't connect an iPod to an iPad for copying music. If you don't have the music on your computer's iTunes then you should be able to copy music purchased from iTunes from the iPod via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) then if you don't have it on your computer nor on a backup then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from your iPod : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • IPod Classic music artwork Displayed on TV????

Is there a way to display my iPod Classic music artwork to my TV like my Zune does?

You cannot drag and drop photos. Read your manual and you will quickly find out it mentions nothing. However in ITunes, click edit and preferences while your IPOD is connected. Click IPOD tab and you will see a photos tab. Designate where your photos are you want to snyc.

  • Ipod classic music to Mac Book Air

I am a new owner of a Mac always used PC in the past, and have an Ipod classic from a ba-billion years ago (2006)
    My old PC computer died.
My old itunes account was attached to an email that got hacked and I can no longer use.
When I try to log in to the account through apple it says my birthday is wrong. (I know when I was born) so I assume this has to do with my email being hacked.
I cannot get purchaced music off my ipod.
I also keep getting an error message everytime I try  to transfer music from the "harddrive" option of the ipod classic to the new computer. I have music going back as far as 2002 on this ipod from several different computers, cds, etc. All paid for! Nothing stolen, but I cannot get it from my ipod to my new mac Its so frustrating because I didn't hack anything or steal anything and now it looks like I'm either going to never buy new music for my ipod or erase and start all over...
Any advice to keep all the music would be appreciated!
I never had any problems transfering from one computer to the other with a PC does apple do this on purpose? It really makes me wonder if I made the right choice if everything is going to be more difficult on my new Mac?

Also I cannot get the ipod to stay connected to my Mac for more than a min??
Everything about this switch is annoying and doesn't make sense. It's an apple product trying to work with another apple product so why is it so much trouble?

  • Ipod classic music erased, with "iTunes cannot read contents of iPod"

I went to sync my ipod classic 120GB and before it began, a message popped up telling me that there was a problem with my devices and that they should be scanned and fixed. I went to scan and fix them, but it failed each time. It started syncing but then an error message came up saying, "iTunes cannot read contents of iPod, go to summary tab in iPod preferences and click restore to restore this iPod to factory settings. I took my ipod out of the usb cable and looked to see that my music had all been erased! I went to the preferences tab that it told me to go to and if I restore the iPod to factory settings then all my media will obviously be erased. I have tried a few times since then to re-sync it but it is coming up each time. I had previously had another iPod with this same iTunes account, but it was lost. I bought this new one about 7 months ago and I have had no problem syncing until now. I also had to get a new hard drive for my computer, but that was about a year ago and I illegally saved the music files from my itunes to my new hard drive so I could have all the old music from my ipod on the new one. Is there any way I can get my music back onto my iPod or do I really have to set my itunes back to factory settings and erase all my media?

I've got a brand new iPod Video 60Gb and i have had this message since the first time i synced it. I think i restored the iPod about 10 times but it's always crashing when i unlupg it. It try to listen to something, the musics are on the iPod but they aren't listed in playlists or under artists or songs.
Then i plug it to iTunes and i got the message: iTunes cannot read the content.
I've bought a Belkin card just for it, the one recommended for iPod USB 2.0. Doesn't change anything. I've tried different USB ports, again, nothing new.
I was just going to try using USB 1.0 but it's sooooooooooooo slow that it will take me like 12 hours to sync the iPod!
I don't know what to do now, as i can't find if it's a computer problem or an iPod problem...

  • Ipod classic music back to iTunes library?

I Lost my iTunes library that had my music uploaded from CD.  I have downloaded iTunes again but it only has new purchased music.  my ipod Classic has all the old music on it, how can I transfer the files to my new iTunes?

You can manually do it by first showing the hidden files, and then dragging them as a group to your machine.
I asked a similar Q, and got the same lame answer.
At least w/ iPads there is a backup option w/ iTunes ..
try RealPlayer on a Win7 machine

  • New ipod classic, music sync error

On Sunday I got a new silver 160gb ipod classic. Today in unpackaged it followed the quick start instructions, so connected ipod to the computer to charge, registered it, and then chose to sync (autosync) my iTunes library, and everything was going fine about a quarter of the way through. I decided to leave the computer to let it finish and charge fully. However when I returned it said there had been an error syncing "JAMES'S iPOD". So I decided to sync again, and now when I try and sync it comes up with the message "Attempting to copy the disk ~ JAMES'S IPO ~ failed. An Unknown error occured (-81)", and then when I press ok on that the message "The iPod ~ JAMES'S IPOD ~ cannot be synced. An Unknown error has occured (-48)".
I'm a bit confused as to why this seems to happen with my brand new ipod, and want to get using it! Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem?
Thanks , let me know if you need any more info

I've got the same exact problem. mine says:
"The iPod "iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error has occured (-48)."
I've had my iPod now for about 2 years and I usually don't have too many problems with it. I've tried everything that apple has suggested, except for the restore option. NO WAY AM I RESTORING MY iPOD!!! I've got like over 2000 songs on that thing and they aren't backed up! It's too much work to back up all those songs. I've reinstalled iTunes, I've restarted my computer and my iPod, but no matter what happens I can't put new music on it. I can listen to the music on and off my computer, but I can't make any changes. This is driving me crazy. I haven't been able to put new songs on my iPod in a while and have been listening to the same old things. Now that I've finally able to download new ones this thing just craps out on me. I just want to put new songs on my iPod, but can't. What's the point of having an iPod you can't change it? Also for some reason i've got duplicate songs that I now can't erase. Apple is just letting me down more and more lately.

  • Program To Play Ipod Classic Music

i have an 80 gig classic..i dont keep my music on my hard drive i manage my ipod manually and i usually play my music off my ipod through itunes but with the new ipod and new ipod this is to sluggish right now if u pause it take like 30 sec to do and other things are just way to sluggish..is there another program i can use to play music off my ipod through that is similar to itunes

Well as I've heard the new iPods do not work with most 3rd party software. However I do remember hearing of a recent break that allows only the classic so far I think. I'll try to find it for you.

  • My 160gb Ipod Classic just deleted itself of all its 13000 songs when i plugged it into the mac! how can i get them back?? ive connected it to this computer 100's of times.

my 160gb ipod just deleted its whole contents and keeps error-ing when i try to upload more songs to it! is there some way i can get them back, i dont have 2/3 of them stored as backup! hellpppppp!?!

You may not have a backup of those files, then.  Have you checked for backup according to this knowledge base article:

  • IPod Classic - Music stops after a few seconds

I have an iPod 160Gb. My problem started a few days ago. After listening to a few seconds the music stops (really stops!). I have to 'click' on play again and it runs for a few seconds more and stops once more.
I've already resetted the iPod three times and so far nothing changed.
I've tried listening to different songs, many of them I've uploaded into the iPod a long time ago and I know there were working before.
Thank you for all the suggestions and ideas.
    David

I have the same problem. And, just as daluan clearly wrote, "I've tried listening to different songs, many of them I've uploaded into the iPod a long time ago and I know there were working before". So it's not a matter of partly downloaded tracks.
As far as I've understood, the problem might be the headphone jack. The iPod is designed to pause when the headphones are removed, so any bad connection in the jack will cause this kind of problem. I will now try to clean my jack and the headphone plug, to see if the problem disappears.

  • 160 GB iPod Classic just started skipping songs. Is there a fix?

My 160 GB iPod Classic worked flawlessy for about two years and now has begun to skip songs. Always after the same playing time from zero to around 48 seconds. About 5% of the songs skip, but the list is growing and it seems to happen at random. I am on iTunes 9.2.1 (5) on my iMac running Tiger OSX 10.4.
(I also have an older 60 GB iPod that is working fine). I have read many strings by this community concerning  this problem and cannot seem to find a good solution here. It seems like some sort of corruption issue.  My iTunes library seems to be fine. If I delete an album from the iTunes library and then synch the iPod Classic to delete the same album from the iPod Classic then re-burn the album to iTunes and then resynch the iPod Classic, the album plays just fine. Of course, I do not wish to hunt and peck for all the bad songs in order to clean them up, especially if more corruption is going to happen. This is a maddening problem as many of you know. It drives me nuts and ruins my enjoyment of my music with this 160 GB iPod Classic.
My music is all in the AAC audio file format and I have about 8700 songs, some 25 music videos, 25 podcasts and thousands of photos taking up around 63 GB of space on my iPod Classic.  I sure wish that everyone who is having this skipping problem can band together and get a voice at Apple for some help.
The iPod Classic was a joy for about two years - and now - has become an aggravation.

Here I am submitting possible causes and solutions for my own problem. Possible root cause of skipping may be the use of a headset cable having a TRRS connector male plug having 4 conductor rings and 3 insulator rings. My problem started when I began to use an AKG Q460 headset which has this connector. Same TRRS plug may be found on iPhone headset or many other headsets having an active switch control in the cable. I think this headset plug may have caused corruption of digital song data when I actuated skip to next or previous song or possibly even when I increased or decreased the volume which is an incrementing pulse control signal. I went back to the headset cable having the same TRS connector as found on the Apple original headset and on my Sennheiser headset and there is even a short TRS cable that comes with the AKG headset. The problem seems to have gone away. No new skipping songs have occurred since using the TRS connector. You can learn more by searching on TRS connector on Wikipedia.
Fixing the corrupted songs was accomplished as follows: 1) MARK the corrupted song as a one star rating on the iPod. 2) Synch the iPod and then when synch is complete, DELETE the marked songs into the trash. 3) Synch the iPod again to remove the corrupted songs from the iPod. 4) Drag the songs out of the trash to the desktop. Then drag the songs back into iTunes. Remove the one star rating. 5) Synch the iPod once again to restore the uncorrupted songs. Fortunately, the iTunes version of the song does not get corrupted when synching the iPod. So far, this has worked fine. I even had one corrupted music video which was repaired with this method. Comments are welcome, especially regarding the TRS vs TRRS connector theory.

  • I had to reinstall iTunes and lost the library, so I used what I had on my hard drive, but I have much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes library. If I synch now will it delete all that extra music from my iPod?

I recently had to reinstall iTunes on my PC (Windows 7) and lost most of the library. I restored with what I had on my hard drive on the PC, but there is much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes current library. I'm worried that if I synch now it will delete the extra music from my iPod, some of which I don't have available to re-rip etc.. Will this happen, or is it safe to synch more content without losing from the iPod what is already there but not in my iTunes library on the PC?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.
