Ipod classic not recognised as an ipod

my ipod was originally mac-formatted and a fren connected it to her pc instead and reformatted it. (not sure how it was done)
but now it is no longer recognised as an ipod! itunes does not recognise it and my desktop shows a harddrive has been connected ( http://t.co/C0JCgVv not even the ipod logo appears anymore, just a white drive icon used).
from ipod itself, it shows 0kb used and 0kb free.
tried changing it to diskmode and reconnecting it to my mac, but still the same results.
i cant restore the ipod cause it wont even load in itunes.
anyone got any advice? pls

Hello McPimp,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you can get it to show up on your desktop as a hard drive, try reformatting it using *Disk Utility*. See this article for instructions on how to do this.

  • IPod classic not recognised by iTunes on Mac

I have an 80Gb iPod classic video. It has suddenly stopped being recognised by iTunes on my iMac. It IS recognised by the iMac though. iTunes does recognise my iPhone and iPad. I've restarted the Mac and reinstalled iTunes but no difference.
I tried erasing it from the Mac but when it restored, prompting a restore by iTunes then it's still not recognised.
I've plugged the iPod into a pc and iTunes recognised it...so I know it's not the iPod or the cable. iTunes on the pc restored the iPod but it's now blank and not being recognised by the Mac iTunes. I've run a diagnostic on the iPod HDD and it seems fine.
I'm confused as to what to do next...other than put all my music onto the laptop and sync it with that...but that seems unnecessary and drastic.

Same problem here, on 10.10.2 with iTunes 12.0.1, my iPod Classic 160 ejects immediately, on my mavericks mac with iTunes 12.0.1, all is well.
I've tried forcing iTunes not to run, by getting it into 'choose library mode' (holding down option key, whilst starting), and the iPod stays connected, but as soon as an iTunes library is chosen, it ejects.  This leads me to think, it may be a system call that iTunes is using that has changed in 10.10.2, forcing the eject.
To Xavier, I don't see an issue with my iPhone wifi sync, although as I tried reinstalling iTunes to remedy the iPod situation, I did have to set that up again on the summary page.
I've also submitted a feedback assistant report, hopefully a fix will be coming...

  • New iPod Classic not recognised by Windows 8.1 or latest iTunes

I have a brand new iPod classic and have just made several playlists on iTunes.
As a sidenote, I am due to have a baby in one week and bought the iPod just for the hospital stay so I am getting extremely frustrated!
My computer is running Windows 8.1and recognises my iPhone and iPad Air but will not connect the iPod Classic.
When plugged in, it makes that little musical sound to say an item has been connected then nothing.
It does not register in 'My Computer' or on iTunes.
The iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting". I don't get the iPod sad face or the exclamatuion mark.
I have reinstalled iTunes, the one time it registered the iPod was when I plugged in the iPad Air (iPod was no longer plugged in) and wanted me to restore the iPod, which it was still attempting to do 7 hours later (I did plug the iPod back in for this)!
Any suggestions would be super as I have now spent about 5 hours more on this than I would have liked to and about 10 hours more on this than I should have.
    Thanks

  • IPod Classic not recognised by iTunes after 8.1 update

I upgraded my iTunes to 8.1 yesterday (on my iMac, OSX 10.4.11). Everything was performing fine until I tried to sync my iPod Classic (160GB).
I agreed to an update for the iPod (1.1.2) but after that was completed, iTunes told me I'd have to restore the iPod to factory settings.
So I did that, then tried to load all my music back onto the iPod. But while iTunes itself recognises my iPod, showing its correct name and displaying greayed-out track names, suggesting the music has been loaded correctly, the iPod itself tells me it has no music. I can see in iTunes that 100GB of the iPod's memory has been used up, but it is classifed as "Other" rather than as "Music".
And confusingly, on the desktop, the iPod is not mounting with the correct name or even icon. It is mounting now like a white .dmg disk, and calls itself simply "iPod"
Anyone else been experiencing these kinds of problems? Is it a problem with iTunes 8.1? iPod 1.1.2? Or both?

Just bought my Ipod 120gb. early february and it was working well with my powerbook g4, 1ghz. running 10.4.11 and Itunes 8.02. Then upgraded to Itunes 8.1 which did not recognize the ipod and had to download the latest Ipod software - 2.0.1, then middle of my synching all my music back to the ipod itunes froze and i had to force quit. Then tried synch again, seemed ok. but my ipod said i have no music on it - although i had 10 GB data on the ipod according itunes summary page. I tried to restore back to original factory settings, synched again, same results - no songs on the ipod except unrecognizable data. I restored about half a dozen times, loading small batches of music only but same old same old. Did the usual permission repairs, ran cocktail, applejack, hoping for some miracle. Then i threw in the towel and cloned back my previous system from my external backup with Superduper- just cloned before upgrading to itunes 8.1 - which had itunes 8.0.2 on it and of course had to download the ipod software 2.0.1 and crossed fingers and synched again and this time it worked as supposed to. All my music and videos are fully functional on the ipod. Just wanted to share what worked for me...

  • IPod Classic not recognised, unable to sync

I've had my iPod Classic for just over a week. The second I got it I immediately plugged it into my PC and put my music library on there. But now that I've added some more music to my library I want to sync it again.
I've plugged the iPod in via USB cable. The iPod is charging up perfectly fine but my iTunes does not recognise the iPod. It's as if I haven't plugged anything in.
But my iPhone 4S is recognised through WIFI and can sync easily.
This is the second time I have tried to sync my iPod. I have restarted the computer, turned my iPod off and on again, ejected my iPhone from iTunes, the USB cable has no damage to it.
Could anyone please help me out?
My PC is a Windows Vista and my iTunes has the lastest update.

  • Ipod classic not recognised by windows(only ipod light turns on when in)

Hi, I have been using my ipod classic perfectly for months now. All of a sudden once day it failed to connect. I have tried the 5 R's I have put it in disk mode, nothing! The computer just won't pick it up at all! It doesnt show in device manager, my computer or itunes. I thought it was my computer so I reformatted my hard drive and the problem persists. I am getting really frustrated and do not know what to do. I REALLY dont want to reset my ipod to factory settings as I will lose ALL my music, movies everything and I don't know what to do.
I am not sure if it has somehow switched to mac version, as on the support area
    - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1335
It says on the settings>about to scroll down to the bottom and if the serial number is there its mac, however I dont have scroll instead I press the middle button and at the end there are 3 items, none of which are the PC version but one is the serial code, suggesting it has maybe gone to mac?
I really REALLY apreciate any help you guys can offer me I have been slaving away for days at it and this is my last resort!

I REALLY dont want to reset my ipod to factory settings as I will lose ALL my music, movies everything and I don't know what to do.
First priority it getting the iPod recognized. If it does get recognized by iTunes, it is likely you will have to run a Restore to erase the hard drive and initialize the software. It is not a good idea to keep your only copy of music and video files on an iPod.
I am not sure if it has somehow switched to mac version
The only way that can happen is if you connected it to a Mac and had iTunes sync it. It cannot just happen.
Although you say it does not connect, does it do everything else properly, such as play music and videos it currently has?

  • IPod classic not recognised in iTunes

When I try and connect my iPod classic with latest iTunes it comes up with an error message "Mac OS X can't repair the disk JO IPOD" it's also not registering in my iTunes. Do I need to reformat my iPod? If so, how do I do this when it's not showing up in iTunes? Any help would be great, thank you!

Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support
If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes on the Mac and connect the iPod.  iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore, which erases (reformats) the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.  If there is no prompt, but the iPod appears in iTunes, you can initiate a Restore from the iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes.

  • Ipod Nano not recognised as an iPod

Hi, I have a fourth generation iPod nano, which today just started not working correctly. When inserted into my Mac, it will be recognized as a removable drive (with the name "noname" on the desktop, and it is not recognized at all in iTunes. I have tried resetting the nano, but that doesn't help. I have also tried running in disk mode which also did nothing. When I double click on the Noname icon, it is completely empty. When I look at the iPod menus they are all there but there is no music. I tried to restore it, but since it will not appear as a device in iTunes, I can not do this...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod classic not syncing with Mavericks

For some unknown reason my iPod classic will no longer sync with iTunes
Have the most upto date version of Mavericks and iTunes
It recongises the device when connected to the Mac (it shows in iTunes on the device list) but it won't sync/update although there are now playlists showing on the iPod that I haven't created on iTunes
Other than this the iPod plays ok but it won't sync so I can't add anything to it...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I am having the same issue - Mavericks, latest version of iTunes, an iPad and an iPod classic. I have all my music on my mac and it automatically syncs on the iPad through iTunes match, perfectly.
When I connect my iPod classic, iTunes recognises it (it appears on the screen and I can check all its content). The only thing is that it doesn't sync, not even if I press the "sync" button myself (even though the iPod should sync automatically when connected).
When I connect the iPod to the MBP, two things happen: on the iPod screen it says "ok to disconnect" after 5 seconds or less (definetly too little for having synced everything?), while on iTunes it says "updating iTunes match".
    No idea what's going on.

  • My iPod is not recognised by itunes or windows 7

Appreciate any wisdom concerning iPod Classic not being recognised by my PC. I run windows 7 and iPod does not register in My Computer or iTunes.  Thanks for any help in advance.

    Does it charge?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

    Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode</a>
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?
Have you checked this link out?:
