Ipod classic not recognized by windows xp

everytime i plug my ipod classic (80 gb) into the usb port, my computer makes thiss little tone (different from the one it makes when recognizing it) and the ipod just turns off. it does not show up on itunes and the battery does not begin to recharge: it acts as though it is not plugged in at all. however, when i unhook the ipod, the pc makes the same tone that it usually does when the ipod is unplugged. what is wrong/ how do i fix it (ps- i have recharged the ipod a little to no avail, and it was not completely depleted when i tried the first time)

The simply way is to find a Mac computer and do a Restore there, hopefully, after that it can recognized by your PC

• Ipod Classic not recognized in Windows.

Hey folks, I have had the same problem as alot of you. I bought an 80gb to replace a 30gb 5th gen classic. The 80gb, did not show up in my computer or in iTunes at all. It did however show up in the device manager.
If this happens to you, I got a solution out of tech support this morning....
In the Device Manager, find where your Ipod is listed, mine was under other devices, and had not driver installed. Right click on it, and select update driver. What you want it to do, is point your computer to search the following file...... c:\Windows\winsxs (Be sure to have it search all the sub-folders as well)
It worked for me, and I have not had a problem since. I am also unsure if it will work in XP. My laptop has it, and there was no problem with my iPod when I hooked it up there.
Once it was up and running, I was able to sync my 16gb worth of music, 99mb of pics, and some movies to it without a problem, and the click wheel was more sensitive than the 5th gen I had.
Anyway, I hope this helps some of you. Let me know if it does....Thanks for reading.

My problem is that I'd try this suggestion, but I cannot even get Windows to recognize the iPod. I've tried moving the cable to different USB ports, and it still does not recognize it. I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it.
Two days ago, my iPod was recognized, but the connection was very slow, and synchronization/update was very slow. Yesterday I updated my wife's iPod (an older model), and the same thing -- very slow.
Later, when I wanted to remove a couple of playlists on my own (newer model, purchased for me for Christmas 2007), a message appeared about the iPod possibly being corrupt, and I haven't been able to get it to be recognized every since. I am completely at a loss ...
Any suggestions?

Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?
Have you checked this link out?:
iPod doesn't charge correctly
Does your iPod appear in "My Computer"? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
If not...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes
Post back on what happens when you try these things out. I hope this helps!

My iPod is not recognized in either Windows 7 or iTunes. The iPod was jail breaked and that may have an impact. I did a reset to remove all files and now all I can do with it is view the logo on the screen. Help.

Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.

• Ipod disabled & not recognized in windows 7 or itunes

My son disabled his ipod touch 4th gen trying to get into it, he planned to give it to his cousin so I just removed the device from his Apple acnt. However, it's still disabled & now not recognized in Windows 7 or by I-Tunes on any computer or usb we try, but it does charge by usb or wall charger. I am not super familiar with Apple products & need some advice if anyone has any. Thanks!

Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

• IPod Touch not recognized by Windows Explorer.

My iPod Touch is shown in iTunes' list of devices but is not recognized by Windows Explorer. Another possibly consequential symptom is that iTunes will not start when the device is connected to the computer. Any help appreciated.
Windows 7 Pro, IE9, have verified latest version of iTunes.

If your iPod is recognized by iTunes (and by your photo app as a camera), then that's how it should be. To startup iTunes when the iPod is connected, check the appropriate option on the iPod's Summary page in iTunes.

• IPod classic not recognized by mac or itunes.... but otherwise works fine.

I'm wondering if there is any way I can save my music. I had to reformat my macbook due to corruption of whole disk encryption. My only copy of my music library was on the iPod itself. I was able to restore about 2/3 of my collection from the iPod to the mac. However, at one point the computer became nonresponsive while the iPod was mounted. Had to force a reboot. The iPod was not recognized after that. I connect it to my mac, it says "connected", but iTunes doesnt recognize this, and it doesnt appear on the desktop.
It works fine. All the music and movies, etc., are there, as well as other data I stored on it (which I also want to get back) (judging from free space indicator), but I can't mount it.
I've done everything traditionally recommended.
-Five Rs, numerous times
-Tried with different macs, 10.5.8, 10.6.1, different cables
-Started iPod in disk mode
-Ran all the diagnostics, they're all fine
-Played with iTunes helper
-Reinstalled iTunes
-Tried on completely different macintosh, same problem
For some reason this thing really doesnt want to mount, but when I use the iPod it's clear all the data is right there on it.
Will I have to bust open the iPod and take out the hard drive, and mount it in another enclosure to get my data back? That's the only thing I can think of at this point. Any other ideas?
Thanks-

• Ipod shuffle not recognized in windows 7

I bought a new 2gb ipod shuffle 4th gen on friday, as my 120gb classic was stolen, and i have been having massive problems with it. Whenever I attach it to the USB port (tried in all 4) it only comes up with a box in the bottom right of windows saying "USB Device Not Recognized", and then nothing at all happens in itunes (which is up to date). To say I have taken it out of the USB port and put it back in 200 times would not be an exaggeration. After about 10 minutes, it was suddenly recognized and I managed to put a few songs from my itunes onto it, but then it got disconnected, and it was never recognized by the computer again. As I only managed to put a fraction of the songs I want on it, it is annoying that it won't work.
The ipod shuffle plays completely fine, I can listen to the songs I DID manage to put on it. I have also tried everything on another computer with itunes and the same thing happened. Every other USB device I own has worked on it, and I have unplugged everything to see if or not it conflicts, and it makes no difference with the shuffle. As the shuffle plays fine, I can only imagine it being a problem with the cable, but for a brief time it worked in itunes perfectly, so I am unsure.
Any help would be massively appreciated. but at this rate I will be taking it back to argos.
I have tried practically everything in all the support and troubleshooting guides, tried using the shuffle in 2 seperate computers, and the shuffle is most definitely plugged in all the way!

• Ipod classic not recognized in itunes because of ipodservice.exe

My ipod classic (80gb) is frequently not recognized in itunes 11 running on Windows 8 unless I close itunes, eject the ipod using windows, stop ipodservice.exe (64 bit) using task manager, and restart itunes. Anybody know of a more permanent fix?

That's not a good sign.
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

• New iPod Classic not recognised by Windows 8.1 or latest iTunes

I have a brand new iPod classic and have just made several playlists on iTunes.
As a sidenote, I am due to have a baby in one week and bought the iPod just for the hospital stay so I am getting extremely frustrated!
My computer is running Windows 8.1and recognises my iPhone and iPad Air but will not connect the iPod Classic.
When plugged in, it makes that little musical sound to say an item has been connected then nothing.
It does not register in 'My Computer' or on iTunes.
The iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting". I don't get the iPod sad face or the exclamatuion mark.
I have reinstalled iTunes, the one time it registered the iPod was when I plugged in the iPad Air (iPod was no longer plugged in) and wanted me to restore the iPod, which it was still attempting to do 7 hours later (I did plug the iPod back in for this)!
Any suggestions would be super as I have now spent about 5 hours more on this than I would have liked to and about 10 hours more on this than I should have.
Thanks

• IPod Shuffle Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes v7.0 - What Now?

Hello everyone,
I am having the same problem as many who have posted here. I have upgraded my software to iTunes v7.0.1.8. I also accepted the auto update for my iPod Shuffle - 512GB 1st Gen to v 1.44 (I believe). Of course, now my Shuffle is not recognized in iTunes and is only recognized in Windows for less than 5 seconds (as I have monitored it). I am listing below all of the actions I have taken today.
As none of these have worked, my question is now what? Does anyone have any other suggestions before I take the dreaded step of calling support? Any help is appreciated.
I am not happy with this upgrade issue at all. I expect much better from Apple.
Steps Already Taken:
1. Reset iPod.
2. Set Terminal Services to "Manual" and restarted my laptop PC.
3. Changed all USB Root Hub entries power management options to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option" and rebooted.
4. Assigned my external hard drive a different letter as it was assigned to "E" and tech support documentation suggested I changed it - I changed it to "M".
5. I stopped the iPod Service via the Services and Application interface from My Computer/Manage, reattached the Shuffle, and started the iPod Service. The Shuffle was still not recognized.
6. I uninstalled iTunes 7.0.1.8, the Apple Software update and QuickTime. I deleted all temp directories; program files folders and all possible traces of all three pieces of this software. I also deleted my iTunes library. I reinstalled all of this software and re-built my Library. NONE OF THIS WORKED!
My 30GB Video iPod works fine and always has - it is only the shuffle for which I have this issue any only since the upgrade.
What do I do now? If no one has another fix, I will be forced to call Tech Support after an experience with them over a year ago I would almost rather throw this thing away!

qswh - I too cannot play the songs that are loaded on the shuffle. Additionally, I get a green & orange light when I plug it into a USB port and then I either get a blinking orange light or a solid orange light from there after.
