IPod Classic not working in car but works everywhere else. Troubleshooting?

My iPod is not working with my Infiniti iPod jack but all other iPods work fine with the in-car system. My iPod synchs fine to my Mac and to an external stereo player through the connector on the bottom of the unit. So it looks like both units work fine with any iPod, but only my iPod will not work with the car while it does work with other connections. How can I troubleshoot this? Thanks for any help.
BTW, the Infniti is a 2008 G37 and the dealer just put a brand new unit in it and the same thing happened. The iPod is a 2008 80GB Classic.
Heeeelp!!!!

I have the same problem with my infiniti G37. Soo frustrating!

  • IPod (5G) and iPod (Classic) Not Working

    _*iPod 5G:*_
I bought the iPod 5G 2-3years back ago. It was working all fine. Few months back I accidentally dropped the iPod. After this, the iPod was not working at all. None of the buttons works. But i am still able to put in on HOLD or even restart/put to disk mode. I am using it as a 80gb External Hard Drive.
    *iPod Classic (120GB):*
I bought this iPod from Bangkok in December 2008. Later, in March, used to restart by itself and freeze suddenly when a track is being played. I had some tracks on it then. Whenever i try to play any track it showed the time 00:00 and started to play that particular track after this 'click' sort of sound from the inside, possibly from the hard drive. It even freezes during the RESTART process. So I had to bring it to a stable condition by restarting it during it is being restarted. My computer is not able to identify it. I have tried to restore it a couple of times now. Sometimes, I am able to get through the RESTORE process but most of the time my mac/ipod freeze together and wont come back to normal until and unless the usb wire is pulled out forcefully. Well, whenever iTunes recognizes it, I try to sync music. I have about 200 tracks in this one playlist. Whenever i try to sync it, the ipod freezes together with my mac. The sync process stops without copying all the tracks to my ipod. After that the screen goes black and then comes back with a dull APPLE logo displayed.
    +Information on iPod Shuffle:+
My dad is going to Bangkok tomorrow. I asked him to get me a Shuffle. The new one that talks. I use the ipod mainly in my car (using the aux). There are no buttons on the Shuffle as everything in situated in cable of the ear phones. How am i going to use the controls if my connect the AUX (from my car's stereo) to my iPod? I wont be able to change tracks, pause or even shut down the ipod. Another thing is that whenever the ear phone plug is disconnected from the ipod, while it is playing a track, the track gets automatically paused.
This is very long, consumed a lot of time for you to read/for me to write. I guess making it longer would help me to kill time as I am running a ZERO OUT format on the 2nd ipod I own. :P
    Thank You,

The classic bought in December 2008 would still be covered by warranty. Have you arranged for service for it?

  • 80GB Ipod classic Not working

well i have a 80 gb ipod classic and as soon as i plug into my computer it just decideds to freeze itunes and not let me click anything on itunes but allows me to still run everything else, also in my computer my ipod appears there but does not allow you to accsess it also, but also does not appear  in itunes
    any help/advise ??

I am having the EXACT same problem. All the buttons work fine on my 80gb iPod Classic, except for the play button.
I am experiencing the exact same thing as the poster. The play button will not work. I also have to unplug the headphones to pause the music and let it go to sleep when I am finished.

  • Why will my 7th generation ipod classic not work in my 2006 VW Passat?

I equipped my vehicle with the VW iPod connector that was hardwired into my vehicle.  I have used both a 1st Gen iPod video/classic as well as a 4th Gen iPod nano with no issues.  However, the 7th gen iPod classic I recently purchased will not play music through my car's stereo system.  It will charge, but is otherwise undetected by the vehicle.

Because it isn't designed to do that. The only Bluetooth profiles on the Nano are A2DP (Stereo Bluetooth) and low energy (think heart monitor). You cannot sync with it.

  • IPod Classic not working unless docked

I have a new 7th gen iPod classic which is only 2wks old. It works perfectly fine when docked & states the battery is fully charged but as soon as I disconnect it becomes no responsive & the screen slowly fades until until it is off completely. Plug it back in & it works perfectly again. I've tried all the ways of trying to reset it but nothing appears to be working. Any ideas?

Since it is new, you should make a reservation at the Genius Bar, if there is an Apple Store conveniently located.
If there is no Apple Store nearby, look on the Contact Us link, at the bottom right corner of this web page.  Under Product & Technical Support - Contact Apple Support, it says "Mac, iPhone, iPod and iPad customers within 90 days of ownership are eligible for complimentary phone support — one support incident per iPod..."
For something like this, which sounds like a manufacturing defect, I think you should be speaking to an Apple tech support employee, either at the Genius Bar or on the phone.

  • Ipod Classic Not Working Correctly, ect.

The Ipod was working at all . It was working perfectly fine . It's an Ipod Classic . It was being used by a friend , they clicked on a song to listen to is and it turned off . So I plugged it in thinking it had died . It would not register that the Ipod was plugged in . I've tried everything , plugging it into the computer , plugging it into an Ipod dock , turning it off then back on , nothing . All it does is show the apple very dimly , no lights , nothing . Just the apple just barely .

I have the same problem with my infiniti G37. Soo frustrating!

  • Ipod classic not working after restart

What do i do if my ipod takes forever to sync and when it is ejected it doesn't have anything on it?? Anyone???, What do i do if my ipod takes forever to sync and when it is ejected it doesn't have anything on it?? Anyone???

If you are using a Macbook Pro, switch to the other USB port, as only one USB port is compatibly fast enough for iPod Syncing, the other is shared with other builtin devices like iSight, Bluetooth, hence slowing down the transfer rate and causing a timeout.
It would also help, if you disconnect all other USB devices while you are syncing an iPod classic.
Do the iPod  Disk Diagnostic, it will help you troubleshoot, the cause of the iTunes Freezing,

  • IPod Classic not recognized by iTunes, but iPod Touch is recognized

I have both an iPod Classic and an iPod Touch. iTunes on my Windows XP computer will recognize the iPod Touch, but it will not recognize the iPod Classic. I went through the first series of tests recommended at the Apple site, but I stopped when it said uninstall iTunes, and further suggested major stuff with the Classic. The whole uninstall/restore process instructions did not assure me that I wouldn't lose some music or my playlist. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard just to get iTunes to recognize a device.

If you have iTunes 11 on the computer and are using the same cable that works with the iPhone then:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try on another computer
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware preoblem

  • HELP! Ipod classic not working with Windows 8

I have an Apple classic Ipod.  I just had to purchase a new PC.  It came with Windows 8 operating system.  When I plug in my classic ipod to this new computer it appears in itunes and you can see the songs that are on it but that is all.  I can no longer select one of them and play it on the ipod through the computer nor can I select or deselect songs on the computer to make a new playlist, nor do my new song purchases on itunes download to the ipod.  Instead they are on the cloud and unbeknownst to me they appeared on my Ipad.  I don't listen to music on my ipad so that doesn't do me any good.  I want them on my ipod.  Can anyone out there tell me what I need to do to make my classic IPOD work on this new computer or am I SOL?
    Thanks.

    Hello Ethan
I am a bit worried since using Ospprearm.exe for office in my 64-bit version of Windows
8 original version apparently changes my CMID will it affect my Windows Profile adversely as well or only office? I am told this rearms
    does "the following tasks:
Resets the grace timer to 30 days.
Freezes the grace timer until either an Office application is run, or the ospp.vbs script is run.
Resets the client computer ID (CMID). This is important because the KMS host uses the CMID to determine the number of unique clients. To check the CMID, use the command ospp.vbs
/dcmid. For more information about ospp.vbs, see The ospp.vbs script.
Note: If you run this command on either Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, it only returns to CMID for Windows,
not Office. To see the CMID for Office 2013, look for event 12288 in the Application Event log..."
Your clarification will be deeply appreciated thanks!!!

  • Ipod classic not working

It freezes on play, but song doesn't advance and can't hear music. held menu and center button, got me nowhere, plugged into computer, won't register in itunes or come up on desktop. Now reset it on the ipod itself and no music on there, and like I said before when I plug it into computer I get nothing. I can feel it trying to work but nothing happens. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hard drive is making that noise and it means the hard drive is done. You need a new iPod.
That happened with mine under one year and they replaced it... Yea!! Right... nope... now the replacement is making that noise and threatening to die. It's after a year from the original purchase, but this unit is less than a year old. I wanted to call Apple.... But get this, they want MONEY to talk to me.... WOW, it must be nice....

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

    any thoughts anyone??

Perhaps the reason you haven't had any replies is because there is no such thing as an 8GB iPod Classic.
I suggest that you begin by correctly identifying which iPod you have.

I tried updating my iPod, and ever since it has not worked at all. If I hold in the lock & home button, it will tell me to plug it into iTunes. Once I do that, it says it will restore but every time, restoring it fails. My iPod is not working at all, and I really have no idea what to do. It is just a black screen, and occasionally the white apple will appear as if it were turning on, but it won't turn on. I just need some suggestions on what to do!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
