Ipod classic partial sync?

Okay,
Brand new 160gb classic, just got it from apple.
Replaced an older model under warranty.
Works great, but I'm not getting all my songs from itunes
library....  Have 8469 songs in library, only syncing 8111....
Partial albums are resulting.
Any suggestions??

Difficult to help a generalised problem like some songs not syncing, we need to know what is Itunes telling you, there are many possible causes, like corrupted files, incompatible file format, no hardisk space, sync incomplete due to timeout etc..
Any error messages while syncing?
iTunes should tell you which songs are not downloaded and the reasons, unless you switch off the alert.

In other words, no. You don't need another iTunes Library for your new iPod
Another iTunes Library, that's only if someone elses music is mixed in with yours and you want to create another Windows user account with their music in it.
The iTunes Library is the master vault containing all your content, from there you create playlists or smart playlists specially tailored for the smaller iPod's storage requirements.
For instance if the iPod can hold only 2,000 songs, then you create a smart playlist based upon those rules/limitation. Plus what type of music you like.
You have a incredible degree of control with smart playlists, they update automatically so you only set the conditions for what goes into them. Including content from other created playlists and smart playlists.
Then, when you hook up the smaller iPod, it has it's own sync options, "all of your music and playlists" or "only select playlists"  So you use the second option to select just the smart playlist you tailored for the new iPod.
When you hook up the iPod Classic, only it's sync options are used, not the new iPod ones.
I hope I explained it better this time.

  • TS1425 I cannot eject my ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc. It states some of the files are being used by other applications. What does this mean? How can I get it to eject?

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

My iPod Classic is synced with an old iTunes account.  How can I transfer this music to my new iTunes account?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.

My 80gig Ipod Classic will sync with my computer, but won't charge during or after the sync. It used to work.

Either that, or try another USB port. Bear in mind that your iPod will only charge when plugged into a high power USB port, though it will sync when plugged into high or low power ports.

  • IPod Classic stopped sync with new iTunes

Once iTunes went to version 11 my iPod Classic stopped syncing.  My iPod Touch will sync.  I prefer my Classic though.  It is recognized by iTunes, starts the first step of the sync process but that shuts down and doesn't sync.  It doesn't freeze my machine just won't launch the sync process.  My library is on my iPod from the last time it would sync, but anything I've bought since won't load to the device.  I ran the diagnostic and it fails at the end saying no device found, which is weird since it appears in my iTunes, tells me how much audio and files I have and reflects that I have 16GB available.  I've tried tons of the tips on here, changed settings, checked and unchecked all kinds of boxes, changed USB ports, etc., and nothing has worked.  Has anyone else had this issue since the v.11 series of iTunes came out?

  • I have tried suggestions found on this website from other Ipod Classic users without success. I cannot get my Ipod Classic to sync any more - have tried on 3 computers with different OS's. Apple have tested Ipod and its lead and pronounced it OK.

This is the third time of writing this on your Apple Support Communities!  My Ipod Classic will not sync.  I have had it checked over at an Apple Genius Bar and also its lead - they say it is OK.   I have had my computer checked at the place that built it for me (Windows 7 desktop when I found Windows 8 childish and irritating).  After collecting it, I again had the Ipod symbol back on my library page, which was a step forward.  However, the Ipod still won't sync.
I have tried other USB ports.  I have tried removing Itunes from computer and downloading it again - with the latest version of course.  I have tried authorising my computer.   I have tried resetting the Ipod.  I have tried ringing the Apple helpline at vast expense - the first assistant was helpful and went through a number of procedures before suggesting I removed and replaced Itunes and then rang back after doing this.  I was given a reference number to quote so that I wouldn't need to go through the whole rigmarole again with another assistant.  But, unfortunately, I got an extremely offensive young man who more or less called me a liar when I quoted the job number I had been given.  He flatly refused to accept that I had already spent ages on the phone that afternoon and said that my last call to Apple, to which the reference number referred, had been in November 2011.  When I asked to speak to a manager, he put the phone down for ages and left me paying for minutes, just waiting.  I put the phone down eventually and rang back, got this person again, and again asked to speak to a manager, whereupon the phone was put down on me.  Needless to say, I am not keen to try this phone service again in a hurry.  But I do desperately want to be able to download my Economist in audio podcasts, which I have been without for a whole month now.  Please can someone knowledgeable take pity and help me?  By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.  I have a newly built computer using Windows 7, the latest updated version.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • IPod Classic not syncing all my songs from iTunes

Background: I've had my 160GB iPod classic for 5+ years and been using iTunes for close to ten years. I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and up until recently I've been updating both iTunes and iPod whenever updates are available. After the horrible experience of upgrading to iTunes 11 and trying for over a month to get used to working with all the annoying bugs and compromises in functionality that Apple stupidly introduced into what was once a really good piece of software, I decided a week ago to downgrade to version 10.7. I went thru all the necessary steps to make this downgrade work, eliminating the various error messages, etc, and it appears now that my earlier version of iTunes is fully functional.
But when I connected my iPod to sync new songs, I kept getting a message to scan and fix the disc on my iPod. I wasn't sure if I should do that so I ignored the prompt a few times. Then last night I decided to restore my iPod and start from scratch. The disc error message has gone away, but now it is not syncing all the songs it is supposed to.
Af far as I know there are no broken links and all the songs in my music library are located within iTunes, so that is not the issue. There may be some songs with the same title and artist but that appear on different albums, so those should not cause a problem. At this point I have too many songs to fit on my iPod so I have selected to sync only checked songs, and I have unchecked over 1000 songs in iTunes, so that when I connect the iPod, it doesn't tell me that there is not enough free space to sync the iPod, it just syncs the checked songs.
Before restoring my iPod, I had 14161 songs in iTunes, with 1105 of those songs unchecked so as not to sync them in the iPod. I did the math and that left 13056 songs that are checked, and that was how many songs showed up in the iPod after syncing it, with about 1GB of free space left on the iPod.
Now, after restoring my iPod, I get only 13009 songs showing up in the iPod, meaning 47 songs are missing (with exactly 1.4GB free space).
How can I troubleshoot this to find out what songs are missing and why, and then fix it? Is there an easy way to approach this daunting task? I am really fussy about my music library and am not the kind of casual user who just loads a bunch of stuff on my iPod and doesn't care if there are duplicates, broken links, missing songs. I manage my own library very assiduously each time I import new music and make sure it is tagged and filed correctly according to my own system. I want to fix this issue.
Could it be a problem with me using a newer version of the iPod updates with an older version of iTunes? And is there a way I can correct that, possibly downgrade the iPod software version I have now? Would it be worth the trouble to try restoring the iPod again, and if so, what precautions do I take to prevent the same thing happening again, where not all my songs get synced to the iPod.
Thanks to anyone who can offer some helpful advice...

  • IPod classic not syncing with Mavericks

For some unknown reason my iPod classic will no longer sync with iTunes
Have the most upto date version of Mavericks and iTunes
It recongises the device when connected to the Mac (it shows in iTunes on the device list) but it won't sync/update although there are now playlists showing on the iPod that I haven't created on iTunes
Other than this the iPod plays ok but it won't sync so I can't add anything to it...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I am having the same issue - Mavericks, latest version of iTunes, an iPad and an iPod classic. I have all my music on my mac and it automatically syncs on the iPad through iTunes match, perfectly.
When I connect my iPod classic, iTunes recognises it (it appears on the screen and I can check all its content). The only thing is that it doesn't sync, not even if I press the "sync" button myself (even though the iPod should sync automatically when connected).
When I connect the iPod to the MBP, two things happen: on the iPod screen it says "ok to disconnect" after 5 seconds or less (definetly too little for having synced everything?), while on iTunes it says "updating iTunes match".
    No idea what's going on.

  • IPod Classic not Syncing with iTunes on Windows 8

    Hi,
I have reccently bought a new laptop which has Windows 8 64Bit pre-installed.  I had my music library backed up (consisting of ripped CDs etc and nothing purchased from iTunes) and thought it would be a straight forward process of syncing this to my iPod.  I am aware that this process would wipe the music off the iPod and replace it with the music on the laptop which I had no issues with.
Despite my best efforts I have not been able to get my iPod Classic 160Gb to sync with iTunes.  When I plug the iPod in, it is recognised in iTunes and th iPod briefly displays a messge saying it is syncing.  After about 10 seconds this message disappears.
iTunes (version 11.0.1.12) gives me the option to restore the iPod which I have done.  It goes through what seems to be a very short restore session where I am not given the option to name the iPod etc before the iPod giving the brief "synching" message and then telling me that I need to eject the iPod before disconnecting.
The only way I have managed to get some music onto the iPod is by clickong on "Music" (under the iPod button) and then selecting "Autofill".  Whilst this works in putting all of my music onto the iPod, if I delete a song from my library this change is not mirrored on the iPod.  I also now have no option to sync my pictures with the iPod.
I have tried using compatability mode to start iTunes in Windows 7 mode but I still have the same problems.
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Many thanks

    how did you fix it?

  • Genius Bar Response to 80gb iPod Classic not syncing to iTunes 9.0

Ok so basically I have been having the same problems as every other 80gb iPod classic owner that has been on this discussion board. Ever since I downloaded the new iTunes update, my ipod has been unable to sync to my computer. Now I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps (uninstall, restore, reset, different computer, etc) and NOTHING works. Basically when I connect my ipod I get the clicking noise it makes when it connects, however that is quickly followed by the annoying disconnect sound. My ipod does in fact show up in My Computer, but as far as iTunes is concerned, all I get is a window to pop up in the upper left hand of the screen saying "Verifying files". After that toggles through for about 5 min, I get the error message in the bottom right corner saying something along the lines of E: Ipod control could not be saved, etc.
I finally got so frustrated that I made a genius bar appt. To my dismay, I got the exact response that I was expecting. The, otherwise friendly assistant, had no clue what the problem was with my Ipod. I described all my issues and he even tried restoring the ipod, tried a different computer, etc and after about 30 minutes all he could say was that he didn't know what the problem was. His worthless excuse was simply that it looked like I had some corrosion on the bottom of my ipod and so that might have fried a circuit or something. However my ipod was working completely fine before the new itunes update. In fact when I disconnect from my computer, my ipod seems to be working properly (i.e. it responds to my touch, it cycles through the menus, etc), but unfortunatly all my music is gone.
As I'm sure is the case with most Classic owners, I have had mine for about 2 years and so I was of course out of warranty. My only options at this point are to pay ~ $140 to replace the same 80gb ipod or just buck up and pay $300 for the new iPod Touch. Considering I'm still convinced this is Apple's shady business tactic of phasing out the older gen ipods, I think my best bet is to go with the Touch.
God I hate when they get shady like this.
    Good luck to anyone else.

    1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
    2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
    Retracts: 861
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2097
    Starts/Stops: 856
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.
