IPod Classic - restore - apple logo

My iPod Classic keeps making a clicking noise whilst displaying an apple on a grey screen. The screen then goes white and says "OK to Disconnect" and then sometimes tells me that it needs to be restored. I try to restore it but my laptop doesn't notice it

  • Ipod classic flashing apple logo

when I hold menu & select buttons, my ipod flashes the apple logo and won't go into disc mode.  Low battery symbol also shows occasionally although it's charged.  Is my battery dead?  What can I do??

I am having this same exact issue with mine, mine is a 160G though. I wish someone from Apple would answer this question already.

  • My ipod is displying apple logo and wont start up, hard reset leaves it the same, disc mode works but iTunes doesnt "see" it even if the computer does.

"My ipod is displaying apple logo and wont start up, hard reset leaves it the same, disc mode works but iTunes doesn't "see" it even if the computer does."
It worked two days ago fine, for two years, until I installed this newest iTunes update, then for one day it kept on freezing and going to apple logo screen mode, then today it only goes to that screen and wont start up at all.
I've tried the hold down two buttons hard reset, that doesn't help. I've tried disc mode... but iTunes doesn't "see" it even if the computer does.
This is a pristine ipod, never exposed to adverse conditions, never dropped, never wet, and it worked perfectly two days ago.
Can I factory reset it somehow? (considering itunes can't "see" it)
[Ipod classic 160gb less than two years old.]

Looks like I might have found the solution on a youtube comment:
    R.O:
"Plug into you laptop first, whichever set up you use that has iTunes, i know it won't read it, don't even open iTunes as of yet. Do the typical reboot "Menu +Center button at the same time" and hold it, DONT LET IT GO like we were told, when the apple pops up.. KEEP HOLDING IT it will make a new ding sound I've never heard before. and since its hooked to you laptop already an error message pops up and says apple will need to download something to repair your iPod. I when u see that that when i let reboot buttons go. hit ok on the laptop something downloads for like 20 seconds then the iTunes icon hops around when you open it it has a screen with an iPod classic on it and says "Software version blah blah, iTunes will check for an update on such n such date" AND FINALLY there's a "Restore" button. click that and you will be back to square one with your iPod. Renaming , adding all the music on it, but it will work again, finally. "
I had to do it twice, because my mac froze the first time, but its recognized it now and is downloading the software as we speak...
Now I've clicked the restore button and it's restoring... I'll post again if its a success, otherwise assume failure.

  • What generation is the iPod classic from Apple's website?

I am looking to purchase an iPod classic 160GB from Apple's website, and I would like to purchase a third-party casing from Amazon.
After browsing Amazon, I realised that the iPods were classified as 6G,7G or earlier generations and I am pretty confused because it is only stated as "iPod classic" on Apple's catalogue.

    Please Help!

If it happens again and the reset (home + power buttons) doesn't work, just let the battery drain; you'll know when the screen shuts off. Charge it back up and it should be fine. Frankly, I'm surprised this worked for you. Usually I hear people with this problem say that holding both buttons doesn't work, and they have to do the battery drain.
If the issue is incurable next time, you have a one-year warranty from the date of purchase.

  • Ipod touch's apple logo in back side is scratched.

iPod touch's apple logo in back side(rear) is scratched. i want to repair this perfect.
And I want to repair other scratch too... What can I do about that?
I am Korean,,, I don't know English about that...T.T please understanding me well...

I believe you're south corean, right? Are there any Apple Stores in South Corea? If not, go to the place where you bought your iPod, and talk to them about that.
Much more productive than talking to someone that's sitting in front of a computer, on the other side of the world (i.e. Portugal)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 7th generation iPod nano flashes apple logo with a white screen and won't play.  What is wrong with it?

I have a 7th Generation iPod Nano that started flashing the Apple logo with a white background.  I have tried Diagnostics, restoring the iPod and even resetting it.  At one point it was in a Restore Loop.  I'm thinking maybe it has a virus but reading further says that I may be missing one of the drivers.  Is there any way to fix it without taking into a tech?? Please help...miss my music!!

    Hi jkjuarez2012,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPod nano is only showing the Apple logo with a white background, and you've tried many good steps including resetting and restoring the device. I know I'd miss my music in this situation.
Make sure that you followed the steps in this article when restoring your iPod:

If the issue continues after restoring, your iPod nano may need to be serviced. You can use this link to find out more about iPod service:

  • After a power outage, iPod now displays Apple Logo and wont turn off

I had my iPod connected to my PC (not on iTunes or Syncing), and when the power went out I unplugged my iPod from the PC and it now displays the apple logo without backlight, then with backlight. I tried resetting, but it only repeats the pattern.

I'm sorry to hear about your ipod. you could try restoring it.

I hope you still have all your music on the computer. restoring the ipod deletes every thing off the ipod.

  • Ipod Touch - Black, apple logo, white screen, black REPEATEDLY!

My ipod touch, 2nd or 3rd generation, keeps flashing from black, to apple logo, to white screen and back to black. Then about every 10th cycle or so it flashes the low battery screen and then shuts off. Only to begin its cycle again in a few minutes. Obviously the battery is so low it can't boot right away. But it won't wait to try to turn on long enough to charge the battery. I've tried resetting, and it won't show up in iTunes to restore...HELP! I WILL NOT give up on this iPod!

    lllaass Thanks for the reply.
I was aware of the nature of the error. The USB issue would not appear to be relevant as my own iTouch 2G is fine using the same PC / cable. However I will, when I have time, install iTunes on another PC and attempt from there. My question asked if the OP had resolved the issue and if it had been resolved then how was it acheived.
The Grandson's iTouch is now permanently stuck in the mode it first appears in when new i.e. image displayed of the iTunes symbol and a USB cable, indicating that it needs to communicate with iTunes.

  • IPod stuck on Apple logo

After running the iPod updater because I updated my iTunes to version 6, I was told to remove my iPod and attatch to external power source to flash the firmware. When I plugged it into the wall, it has been stuck on the Apple logo ever since (going on 5 hours now). I have done numerous resets, tried to plug into the computer to run updater again, but it won't even recognize that it has been plugged into the computer.
I'm pretty much at the end of things I can think to do.
This is on a 15 gig iPod.

Okay, after letting my ipod totally uncharge (nothing on the screen). I unplugged the firewall cord, shut down and then restarted my computer, replugged the cord and plugged in my ipod. My computer recognized it this time and then I opened the update file again (programs, ipod, updated 9-23-05) and chose restore again, this time it restored (which means erases everything and puts it back to the factory settings)
Fortunately my music files were still on my itunes so after restoring, I again shut down the computer and repeated the process before, unplugged cord and ipod, restart, plug in the cord and the ipod. A screen came up to rename my ipod and setup my preferences just like when I first setup the ipod and after that it reloaded my songs and is working fine now, but I have spent all day messing with this silly machine. The next step I was going to try if this didn't work was load my setup cd that came with the ipod but I didn't need to and I was surprised that I didn't. Hope this helps. My ipod is the 20gb clickwheel. Good Luck.

  • Ipod shows only apple logo

I was updating my ipod and the battery of my ipod got completely discharged. After charging the battery again the ipod now shows the apple logo and then after 30 seconds it makes sound and its backlight gets turn off for 5 seconds.
I have tried to restore the ipod but the ipod updater does not recognize it. Neither itunes is recognizing the ipod now.

  • 5th generation Ipod only shows apple logo, lights up, and restarts.

The iPod is stuck restarting and showing the apple logo. When I try to restore iPod, says "can't mount Ipod", already tried the Five R's. and I tried charging the battery to see if that was the problem, did not work. Computer sometimes recognizes ipod, but only in Disk mode.

    Hi. try...
    1. Deinstalling all iTunes / quicktime / updater. Reboot the PC and install all the software from the CD again. Then try a RESTORE.... if that doesn't work.
    2. If you have access to another PC try the restore from there.... if that doesn't work.
    3. Contact Apple for a replacement.
You'll find a few hits on the forum that talk about the ipod being formatted for Mac use and you have to restore to get it into a windows format. I had a replacement and info came with it from apple with this info.
I had a problem with restoring, along the lines of 'disk write error / firmware error, which I eventually fixed by installing the Belkin USB card. Once I was sure the ipod was working OK I tried installing the software and restoring on a few different PC's that I have access to. Unfortunately results were pretty inconclusive as to configs that worked / didn't work.
