  • IPod Classic keeps freezing...what do I do?

My iPod Classic keeps freezing. It still plays music, but then the screen freezes and won't let me command the device until the backlight switches off. I noticed it's got a bit worse since I bought 'Bush' iPod speakers to play my music out loud through my iPod. What do I do? It's getting annoying.

    Hi Candyfornia,
I think you must restore your iPod (with iTunes) to solve your problem...

  • White Line Down Middle of iPod Classic Screen

I have recently noticed a thin white vertical line on the right side of my iPod classic screen.  It doesn't affect the iPod's function at the moment but I'm worried that it is signaling a potential technicial problem.  I have tried all the initial troubleshooting steps suggested but am leery about uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

Removing and re-installing iTunes won't do any good as it does not pertain to the iPod in any way.  If none of the 5 R's of troubleshooting helped, we can definitely say that it is a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display.

Sometimes it helps to let the battery fully drain and then redoing the 5 R's.

  • White lines on ipod classic screen, could it be cracked screen? it has never been dropped or anything. Is it pretty common problem. Contacted apple support, denies problem exist.

White lines three appeared on my ipod classic screen. It has never been dropped or screen scratched. Suddenly white lines appeared on the screen. Tried to reset settings, nothing changed. Is this a common issue with ipod classic coz apple adviser denying ever having heard of this problem and I have to pay half of msrp to fix it. Offered 10% off to purchase new ipod and turn in old one. What a waste. Apple should take responsibility if this problem is indeed inherent with this product.

The magnets are tnot the cause.
Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem.
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore tofactory defaults/new iPad
If still problem then time for an appointment at teh Genius Bar of an Apple store. The drops may have damaged it or there could be another cause.

  • IPod classic 160GB freezing when plugged in

    Hi,
My new iPod classic started freezing when plugge in after the night, for example - it needs a restore, then works fine. Any ideas?
    Thank you for your help

Yikes!, it may means it is the iPod Classic firmware 2.0.4, that is hanging up the USB Host controller, which freezes your whole Computer.
Could be a partially updated firmware 2.0.4, (so kind of corrupted)
    Can you
    1. Open in finder <yourname>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
    2. Remove the .ipsw and .ipsw.signature for the version you are wanting to drop, in this case, 2.0.4
    3. Open iTunes and in Preferences uncheck automatic check for updates.
    4. Connect iPod and select restore. It will ask you if you want to check for newer update. Select Yes. All files will be removed and it will have to resync the entire library but it worked.
PS: try and do this in Diskmode.

  • Ipod Classic screen say connect to restore???

Ipod Classic screen say connect to restore but when I do so it just goes into do not disconnect screen and computer wont recognize it at all
I tried everything possible, I reseted it multiple times. try hard disk wont work. tried connecting it wont work. it is just usually stuck in the apple logo screen until it tells me to connect to restore and then after that it goes into Do not disconnect and then after a while it just say OK to disconnect but nothing else happens. HELP PLEASE

    Since you stated
         I tried everything possible
Most likely your iPod hardisk is giving problem, bring it in to Apple store if it is under warranty, else
do the Disk Diagnostic as posted by tt2.
It wont fix your problem, but the report will help in troubleshooting.

  • Nothing shows on my ipod classic screen

I can not get anything to show up on my ipod classic screen. I tried resetting my ipod and still nothing shows up on my screen, not even the Apple logo. I wonder if the battery is dead.

If the battery is "dead" (as in "fully drained", or empty), you will need to leave it on charge for at least thirty minutes before it shows any signs of life. Then, let it fully charge.
If that is not the issue, try leaving the iPod alone and unplugged for a few days (painful, I know). If the iPod is stuck doing something, but unable to turn on the screen, leaving it alone will cause the battery to empty out. Then, go for the "empty battery" option of recharging, as above.

  • My iPod classic will freeze during sync.

I have an 80gb ipod classic. Im using itunes on my imac and when i got to sync the ipod it starts then it freezes.  takes forever to load songs.. Mind you i have over 4,000 songs im trying to download... I still think it should sync a little faster. Anyone know what the issue is?

The sync cable must be connected to a USB port at the back of the iMac screen and not to those USB ports on the keyboard or USB portr hubs.
You iPod hardisk maybe having problem, do a Diskutility firstaid repair and run the Ipod disk diagnostic to check if the Realloc and Pending sectors numbers are not high.
    Good luck!

  • Ipod Classic 80gb Freezes on Apple Logo

I have an Ipod classic 80gb. When I plug my Ipod into my computer the Ipod freezes on the Apple logo on screen. The only way to get it back is to go into disk mode and then restore the ipod on itunes but it doesn't fix it permanently. As soon as I plug it back in or it resets it does the same thing. If i leave it unplugged for a while then it will come back on like a reset ipod asking to select language and it is then a factory reset ipod with nothing on it. When I plug it back in so i can upload songs it does the same thing again. Please help

The clicking sound is your iPod Hardisk, trying to retract and find the boot sector unsuccesfully.
Hopefully, you can do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as in this great post by tt2., it wont fix your problem, but let you know, how dire is your Hardisk health.
So only as a last resort, one way, to get the stuck Hardisk head free, is to bang the iPod on a rubber mouse pad, when you reset it, but do it at your own risk, some very lucky guys got it working again for the next 14 months, like myself.

  • My new ipod classic keeps freezing

I got it for christmas and have been looking after it. The screen and buttons consistantly freezes at least once a week. I don't know what triggers it besides that it only happens when I'm doing something with it. So it dosn't happen when it's in my pocket. The screen dosn't shut off or dim. When I plug it into itunes my computer registers that a usb device was plugged in with a sound effect but itunes dosn't communicate with it. The only way I found to fix it is to wait until the battery drains and then charge it again. It's a classic 160 gig. I don't know why it would be broken because I've never dropped it or bumped it and because it's only a month old it's very dissapointing.

  • IPod Classic Screen still black after restoring it

After dropping my iPod classic, the screen went black and I could no longer get it to work.  I was able to restore it however the screen is still black. I can hear it clicking when I spin the will and it connects to iTunes but the screen is still black. Is there any way to fix this?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 160gb iPod Classic, Screen No Longer Working

    Hello,
So I have a 160gb ipod classic. I dropped it a few weeks ago by accident and now the screen does not work. No backlight, no lightup, no nothing. It will sync up to my PC just fine and if I plug headphones in and navigate to a song by memory it will play. I hoped it was just an issue with the connector coming loose inside the ipod. So i took it all apart since I got it in like 2010 and was out of warrenty. Unfortunatly, to my dismay, the issue was not the connection to the logic board. After doing a little more research I took it apart even more to see if there was a tear in the lcd connecter anywhrere, there wasn't. So I put it all back together and I was still getting the same issue. Great. My next thought was to get a new lcd. I had an ipod classic 80gb in like 2007 with a broken hard drive so I did some research and found they were the exact same lcd. So instead of buying a new lcd, I just took it out of that one and replaced it in the 160gb ipod. It worked!! well... sort of. I still get nothing on the display screen, but now, when I touch the clickwheel, the backlight lights up. Again, I can select songs from memory and it syncs up fine, but I cannot see anything on the screen. So thats a start, isnt it? I'm not sure. I tried to restore it in iTunes but kept getting an "unknown error 1514." Did some reserch on that and wasnt very helpful.
If anyone could help me out anymore that would be great. I am kind of at an end for what else to do. I'm out of ideas and after looking through this forum and others I have not found a real solution. ANY advice would be helpful. Thanks so much!
I am seriously considering ditching hard drive based media players, as the second they get dropped its all over. But I love being able to carry around all 100+ gigs of music and 30+ gigs of movies with me in one small device. if they made a 128 gig flah memory itouch id be all over it...

    Hi, Meg.
I've contacted Apple as you suggested and they have already taken care of the problem.
Thank you for your help and reply.

  • My ipod classic keeps freezing when I plug it in, why?

I have an ipod classic that I bought off of Amazon about month ago. When I first plugged it into my computer to put songs on it, it worked fine, but now whenever I plug it into my laptop it freezes. I have to let it die everytime and this is becoming ridiculous. I even tried closing out all other open windows on my computer so that iTunes is the only thing that's open and it still freezes. I am severely ****** off and I feel like I've wasted $250 dollars. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?

    Hello Briannat1995,
It sounds like your iTunes application is becoming unresponsive when you plug your iPod Classic into your computer. I recommend trying the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
