IPod classic skipping

Haven't been following for a while. Too busy with iPad issues. Has any thing new come op random skips in middle of songs to next track? Or should I give into my desire to see how high it will bounce when tossed from my condo balcony?
Have already tried resets, deleting songs, etc. no need to rehash issues already posted in other threads.

The temporary fix for skipping songs is to do a iPod Reset
Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs, till the Apple logo comes ON. then release the buttons
Select your prefered language.
But sometimes this doesn't work as the skipping comes back, when your cache is full.
The new Classic firmware 1.1 or later, has issues with playing Joint Stereo encoded files.
You can verify that your problem files are encoded as Joint Stereo by looking at the properties or Get Info on the problem songs.
Most people just use 3rd party app, MP3 validator, to correct the problem, but if you are using AAC, re-convert them as regular Stereo. use iTunes converter AAC->MP3->AAC.

IPod Classic - skips tracks between songs

i have a brand 120G classic. when i play with my BOSE sound dock it periodically skips half way through tracks -- various tracks. But when i use any of my other iPods (iTouch, mini, friends classix) they work fine (so that eliminates the docking station being at fault.
i have rebooted, reloaded, reinstalled software for the iPod classic. BUT it keeps happening.
any ideas?

I, like everyone else, am having the same issue. I have a black 120GB classic. Noticed the issue while deployed to Iraq and working out in the gym. Thought it was a headphone issue (was using the ear buds with remote) returned them and problem remains. Now back and having the problem even when not being moved around. I am gonna try the back light recommendation, but, I don't like having the back light always on, so, that is a pain in the butt. I, too, AGREE that having this problem listed for OVER a year now is POOR business management APPLE!!!! This is the only issue I have ever had with apple products....But, definitely the most ANNOYING problem to have...

IPod Classic Skipping Songs?

Ever since yesterday my iPod Classic has been skipping songs when I press the next button. I browse songs by artist, and when I choose the first song in an album instead of saying like '1 of 6' it'll say '4 of 6' and then it'll just go through the songs arbitrarily. :/
I also can't locate the voice recorder feature either. I treat my iPod Classic as if it were my child, this recent malfunction has really gotten me shaken.

Forgot to mention, I've already tried hard resetting, didn't do anything.

IPod Classic skipping/stopping when using Infiniti M37 factory installed dock

We have 2 Infiniti M37s and when I use my iPod Classic in either one, songs will skip/stop during play (happens randomly and not with the same song each time and the frequency differs, too) and then resume, though all songs play without skipping/stopping when I use my Bose headset (not in the car!). It happens on all road surface types and, thinking it may have been the cable, have used 3 different cables to connect from the car dock to my iPod. Same problems. I had a Toyota before and never had this problem with with the same iPod. Help?!!! Thanks.

This most likely won't completely solve your problem and you might've already tried it, but try restarting your iPod. It might just need a rest! To do this, press the Menu and center button on your iPod until it turns black and then restarts itself. (You'll know it's restarting when you see the apple come up on the screen.)

Ipod classic skipping Artist/Albums durring syncing in iTunes

I had to do a system restore on a windows 7 and since then had some probs. w/ syncing my iPod Classic. I'm not getting all the Artist in my iTunes library. It seems to skip one every once in a while.It will record one artist skip one then record the next. doesn't make sense. And sometimes and Artists will have several albums and my iPod will grab 2, but not sync/download the 3rd. I have re-set the history. And set it to sync manuely. But I keep getting these results. Can anyone help?

How is your iPod currently configured to sync music from your iTunes library? In other words, what options and configurations do you have in place from under the iPod's Summary and Music configuration panes in iTunes?

My ipod classic skips in the car via USB, PLEASE HELP!

When i connect my Ipod classic via USB in my car it skips tiny amounts during songs. It plays fine other wise, throught the headphone hole is fine. I have tried a new cable, It has the latest software, I have looked at other forums where they say make all the tracks the same bitrate and stuff like that but im sure thats not the problem as it happens on all tracks and the bitrates of my collection vary as thay are all from differnent sources. Any body have any ideas? This is starting to drive me crazy!

Never mind. I finally got it to reset. I guess 5th times a charm.

Ipod classic skips with songs downloaded from itunes and mp3's.

I have an ipod 120gb classic, I listen to it in my van through my alpine car stereo, i found that it would start to play songs and then skip to the next song in the playlist, i thought it may have been the cable for the stereo that was the problem, 2 month ago i changed the stereo and the cables and with the brand new stereo the ipod is still skipping through songs which leads me to believe that its an ipod issue and not my alpine, is there anyway to correct this, as it is very annoying, i bought the ipod to avoid having cds and damagings them now the ipod is doing what cds do, skipping tracks, and then ive noticed for such an expensive investment, apple has not been able to resolve the problem.

I need to know more specifics about your problem.
Are your songs ending earlier than expected and the play count incrementing? If you push the back button to play the song again, does it end at the same premature time? Can you scrub (push the center select button once and then scroll) to a point 60 seconds after the songs cuts off and hear the remainder of the song play? If you listen to the same song on your computer and it plays fine all the way through and all of the above applies, then the problem is that iTunes is omitting a small amount of data in the midst of the data stream as it transfers files to the iPod.
Uncheck the song(s) ending too early; sync; check the song(s) ending early; sync. iTunes will then send a new copy of each song to the iPod. If any song on the iPod isn't repaired after this (and the point where the song cuts off may change), then repeating the process for any song which didn't get repaired should work.

Why does my Ipod classic skip videos?

For some reason whenever I try to play videos on my classic it skips video. The screen looks like it fast fowards through but the audio is not skipping. This happens with half my videos but the other half seems to work just fine.
Any suggestions? I just want to know if it's the synchronization or something like that.

Can I assume that even with your iPod battery is fully charged, the video skips?
if these same videos, can play smoothly in iTunes then do a disk diagnostic on the iPod, to check the health of the iPod hardisk, here is the earlier post contributed by tt2.

Itunes/ipod classic skipping halfway through songs

When I skip to another song while 1 is currently playing and I get back to it at another time, the song picks up where i left it. Not at the beginning where it should???? This happens on itunes and my classic. Is there a setting somewhere i can not find?

Make sure the "Remember Playback Position" option is not enabled for these tracks in iTunes. To do this, locate the tracks having this issue, right->click on them and choose "Get Info." When the window pops up, head over to the Options tab and make sure there is no tick mark next to "Remember playback position" and see if that helps.

My ipod classic skips in the middle of a song. Any ideas of what I can do?

It's a 80 GB Classic and when I play certain songs (Jeff Beck) it skips. I have only used 11.9 GB.

If it's a legitimately unlocked iPhone, you can use it on AT&T or T-Mobile if you like. You can not bring your own iPhone to any CDMA carrier (Verizon, Sprint, etc).
If it was originally sold in the Middle East, Facetime is permanently disabled.

Multiple iPod Classics are skipping over songs and will not play them. This is a recent issue and these ipods are not new - we have been using them for several years now. The playlist and the Macbook from which the playlist came are also not new. The playlist copies onto the ipod so that i can see it on the device, but after unplugging the ipod and trying to play a song the screen just gets stuck for a few seconds, with the play symbol showing in the toolbar, but then skips to another song until it can find a song it can play.
After some investigating i found that my itunes must not be properly copying the playlist - it shows up on the ipod, but when i view the ipod contents in itunes, that playlist is not there. Upon a second attempt at copying the playlist to one ipod, i found that all files still show up in the song list, some files are now playable, but not all. My husband and I are DJs and one can understand that this is quite a predicament, when all of our ipods suddenly only play certain songs.
Restarting the ipod does not solve issue. Again this is an issue with multiple iPods, so i am thinking that maybe it is an iTunes problem but i don't know where to begin trying to fix it. One thing i did notice was that when i plugged the ipods, iTunes sat in the "verifying iPod" stage for quite a while. I found some past forums that touched on this but it seems to usually be connected to updating the version of iTunes, and i have the most current version (10.6.3). This playlist was made years ago and the files should not be corrupt, at least they have worked fine in the past.

The one year limited warranty ought to see you through "early failures". I have a sneaky suspicion that extended warranties are intented to cover "random failures" before "wear out" failure becomes likely which is why such cover is often limited to 3 years, the period when it is least likely to be needed.
In your case, assuming there is no obvious physical cause that has been overlooked, it would seem to be a random failure in years 2/3. Not common, but they will happen to someone.

Have you checked if your Earphones are working?
Do you get the Music menu after the reset? (what is display on the Screen? song playing)
Normally if you Reset the iPod, it will turn the shuffle mode off, but do check under setting that shuffle mode is off.

Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

There nothing we can suggest to save a bad iPod hardisk, except to try some 3rd Party software to try repair the Hardisk.

Finally fixed my Ipod classic 160 gb from skipping certain songs!

When I would play certain songs or albums on my ipod classic it would skip these songs and wouldn't be able to play them. It frustrated the **** out of me! After much research and reading posts i found an app that helped fix this dilemma. I learned that certain mp3s have corrupted files and ipod has trouble reading them so its good to run your mp3s using this app before you upload them to your ipod. Have you updated your iPod and iTunes sofware?
most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.

If your iPod software is version 1.1.2, then you have to use lower quality format.
Can you select the problematic song, and Advance -> create iPod version
