IPod Classic "stuck" at "connected" screen?

Hi there. I have a BMW and I use a hardware device by DICE to hardwire my iPod to the car. This decive allows the ID3 tags to show up on the Navigation screen as well as the "on board computer" that is underneath the speedometer, as well as allows me to control the iPod either via the iPod itself or the buttons on the navigation device or on the steering wheel. I first used this with my iPod nano, then my 2nd generation nano, and then a 5th generation iPod... all without a problem.
All of a sudden I sell the 5th generation iPod and get an iPod Classic (80 GB black) and now when I connect to the DICE I cannot use the iPod to control the music. It just loads to that generic orange screen that says "connected to device" and the buttons on the iPod are in essence disabled. I can control the music via the car, but the songs just automatically sort by artist and I can only use the forward/back buttons to browse through my music. Imagine how annoying that is with 80 GB of music!
I am running the latest version of the software (I forget what that is... I don't have the iPod Classic in front of me but I've run Software Update to check) and with this latest version at least now in that same "Orange Connected Screen" the ID3 tag will scroll along the bottom of the screen, but still no control of the iPod from the iPod itself.
Anyone else seen this/know how to fix it? Please help!
Sincerely,
Keith

Did the problem start occurring right after you upgraded to iTunes 7.6.1 (the latest version)
I don't use DICE but I have the built-in BMW iPod interface and it no longer works...
Other people have reported the same issue.
I'm so mad at Apple for breaking it, they advertise car integration and them mess it up. I already talked to BMW and they said "well, that's an Apple problem"

  • IPod classic stuck on 'X' screen, can't restart or sync with iTunes

I've tried everything, but nothing has worked to fix my beloved iPod classic.  It hasn't worked since last September, so about four months.  I'm curious if it has something to do with the classic being discontinued, but I don't see why that would destroy my iPod, which I had for about a year.  If I hit a button, the apple logo pops up, and after a few seconds it goes to a different screen with an 'X' on it, giving me the url for apple support.  It didn't seem like any of the support was directed to my sort of problem.  I have a lot of music, so without my iPod I've been forced to only add a small amount of it to my 16gb iPhone.  I'm hoping that I can get my iPod working again, since I used it everyday.  I would appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

    Hi b.lindstrom,
If you are seeing the Red X on your iPod, then try putting your iPod into Disk Mode and then restore it within iTunes. If that does not work, then you will need to setup service on your iPod. The article below will have more information to help you out.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • I have an iphone 4 connected to my imac/itunes using a designated email address.  However, I also have an 80gb ipod classic which is connected to my general email account. How can I transfer my ipod to the same account as the iphone

I have an iphone 4 connected to my imac/itunes account using its own designated email address. However, I also have an 80gb ipod classic which is connected to my general email address. How can I delete this and transfer the ipod to the same account as the iphone 4. Thankyou

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID.  So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account.  Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

  • Ipod Touch Stuck On iTunes Screen. The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
    In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
    Can someone help me out, please? :}
The operating system was ios 5 something? It wanted to update to 6 i believe.

I've tried the top part but now that i've looked to the bottom:

Select the hosts file (normally you can find your hosts file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC).
I put this in the url bar?
When it gives me the list of names, im not sure what to do from there. The steps aren't that clear for me.

  • Does the 7th generation iPod classic have a glass screen

does the 7th gen.... ipod  classic have a glass screen an what the average life span with normal everday useage,,,,

It is a glass display and the average lifespan depends on a number of factors such as how often it is used and under what conditions, etc.  I would say 2 - 3 years overall is a very good number for these types of devices, but many users recieve many more years of use than that.

  • IPod Classic won't connect - need to restore. What do I do?

I installed the latest iTunes onto my laptop (Windows 8), and now my iPod Classic won't connect to my laptop or iTunes. It's also telling me I need to connect to iTunes to restore it. I can't connect it to iTunes.
When I plug in the USB cord, It starts the iPod in Disk Mode -  still no connection. What do I do?!

    Hi DanielleGuise!
It sounds like your iTunes installation is not recognizing that your iPod is plugged in, so you will need to address that issue before you can restore the iPod. Here is an article that will help you do this:

  • Ipod Classic Won't connect

My Ipod classic will not connect iTunes? And every time I do connect it stops Itunes from Working?

I'm assuming you are using firmware 1.1 on the iPod, you might check with your BMW dealer and see if there is a software upgrade for your BMW that will correct the issue. The 1.0.3 upgrade fixed the connection on my BMW, but I have the post March 2007 iPod connection.

  • My iPod is stuck on a screen were it shows the itunes symbol and it show i need a plug in device. Ive tryed everything I can do can anyone help me?

I need help with my iPod, its stuck on a screen with the iTunes symbol and the charger below it can anyone help me?

This happens when the operating system on the phone becomes corrupted.  This could be because of a failed update to the OS or even a hardware failure due to being dropped or submerged in water.  If you follow the instructions indicated, hopefully iTunes will be able to restore the OS and afterward you can restore the settings from a backup (assuming you have one).
If this does not solve the problem you will need to take the phone to an authorized repair center.

  • HT203175 ipod is stuck on the screen saying to plug in itunes

ipod is stuck on the screen to plug into itunes

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod is stuck on the screen which says 'connect to itunes' and i am unsure how to get it off i've tried backing the system on to itunes but it doesn't seem to work if anyone knows how please submit an answer.

my ipod is stuck on the 'connect to itunes' screen how do you get it on to the home menu?

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes on the computer. If iTunes does not see the iPOd try:
    - Placing the iPod in recovery mode.
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    or
    - iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
