IPod Classic to iMac photo transfer

Laptop died, lost everything. However, my old iPod Classic (click wheel 120GB) still had all of my old photos on it. I have an iMac now and am trying to transfer the photos over. Any good (hopefully free, although not opposed to buying) transfer software? Tried two already and they don't seem to work, or can't "find" my iPod.

See Putting iPod into Disk Mode.
If you ticked the option to include the original images these should be visible in the file system on the device, otherwise the iPod will only have low resolution copies. Some of the third party recovery tools are able to extract these but I don't have a recommendation for you.

  • Connecting iPod Classic to iMac with USB 1.1 and Firewire

I've just read the specs for the new iPod Classic and the requirements call for USB 2.0 to connect to a Mac. My older iMac does not have USB 2.0. Is the iPod backward compatible to 1.1 or Firewire or is this just not going to work?

Only way for you to use the newer "iPod Classic" is to buy a newer machine if yours can not be upgraded. It is how to make money now, new product means buy new machine to run them, gone are the days of making hardware backwards compatible, no profit in it. What Apple could have done was use its R & D center to make either the Firewire chip smaller or install a Firewire and USB 2.0 Chips in a Dock and have the iPod's internal USB 2.0 chip to switch off when dock connected and allow the electrons to pass through circuit and have the task of delegating to the dock to which ever format it is plugged into the machine. Remember when calling something "Classic" you are referring to the features that made it popular to begin with. Not only was its ease of use but it was for its Firewire connection was the fastest way to get hundreds of music files transferred in a matter of minutes not hours. That was the only choice until the 3G ipod and remained until the ipod photo. I have told Apple a thousand times by e-mail, phone and snail mail I would gladly pay extra to have the iPod with Video and firewire syncing through a dock or a custom iPod. But for now the only way for you to get what you really want is to build it yourself.

  • Ipod Classic not showing Photos in full screen

I have a new Ipod Classic 80gig version and have sync'd it with my windows PC. All is good other than the photos. It will display them in mini form (like a contact print) but when you click on the photo you want to look at in full size version the screen goes black and it doesn't show thge photo. Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Nick

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • How do I make iPod Classic import (sync) photos via iTunes so that the photos stay in order by filename and can then be viewed as a slideshow in the correct order?

I carefully number my iPod bound photos so that they are in a desired order by filename.  When I sync the photos to my iPod Classic they are not in the same order.  A typical filename would be:  001 001 IMG-3489.jpg followed by 001 002 IMG-3478.jpg.  Windows uses the first seven characters to order the files and does not care what follows the first seven so long as the first seven are not duplicated within the folder.  My iPod ignores that convention.  HELP! PLEASE!  I want to view my slideshows in the correct order.
    Thanks

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Ipod classic 160 , iMac tiger 10.4.11 , itunes 9.1 not syncing & freezes up

Im ready to yank my freakin hair out. I have called and talked with itunes support and got nowhere. I have downloaded , upgraded , restored and even returned 2 ipod classics to see if they were the problem.
When I sync it gets to about 1-3 gb and freezes everything (ipod , itunes , computer) I have put up with everyone acting like its something Im doing. It always ends up saying ( cant read or write to the ipod ) This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!! I have 15,500 songs and cant use them mobile at all, this *** after my girlfriend spending $280.
What is going on?????? , and is there going to be an itunes up date for this sooner than later or should I return it before its to late? A Best Buy saleman said something about many complaints about this and that I should be able to expect an update soon... so I have a new 160 sitting in a box Im afraid to open.

I'm not sure that if this is exactly the same problem you're having but it sounds similiar...
I have just purchased a new ipod classic 160, and have attempted to sync it with my itunes 9.1 library. It managed to sync about 3 Gb and then an error message came up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I then tried manually transferring the music and was successful with some of the music, but with other tracks the same error message came up. I performed a restore on the iPod, as I initially formatted it on a PC, not my Mac, and thought this might be the problem. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. As far as I can see there is no pattern to the tracks that it won't load on (well not to my eyes anyway). I would be grateful for any suggestions as I'm off traveling in a few days time without my laptop and can't imagine myself without my music collection!

  • IPod Classic & New iMac

We have a classic iPod and just got a new iMac. All of our music transfreered over to the new iMac. However, we now cannot synch our iPod. We receive an error message and nothing new gets added. We did a factory restore and now nothing happens when we try synching. Any help/feedback  would be appreciated.  Thanks.

iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iMac's iTunes library.
NOTE:  Ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer, and not use your iPod.  If you can do it that way, please post back.

  • Ipod not connecting for photo transfer

I recently bought a Ipod color 20Gb for storing photos during my holidays. I used it straight out of the box and filled it up with about 1000 pictures. As I had no computer with me I never connected it to a computer. Now, at home, I like to transfer my photos to the computer.
In explorer I can see the Ipod as an replaceble disk. If I want to open it it says "disk not formatted do you want to format?".
Who can help me to secure my pictures?
    Bart

I called tech support just now, and they resolved the problem. I switched the drive letter of the iPod (My Computer>right click>"Manage">"Disk Managment">right click on iPod>"Change Drive Letter or Paths") to "M", and the issue was resolved. The tech lady said that iTunes doesn't like many drive letters below "G", and was causing hardware conflicts (due to weirdness with my harddrive settup, my iPod was C:\ and my harddrives are H, I and J. Yeah, weird, I know).
So this question was answered by the nice tech support people, and maybe this could help you...

  • Ipod classic 160 , iMac tiger 10.4.11 , itunes 9.2 not syncing & freezes up

Same problem as itunes 9.1..... this is so wrong , apple should have figured all of this out before releasing products... imac , itunes & ipod are all with newest software as of OCT 30th and it still freezes up then gives me the spinning ball of doom and 15-25 minutes later it tells me it cant sync...
I took back two other ipods thinking it was them...then bought a third and held on to it until this new release of software today , I was excited for about 5 minutes until all this started again : (((

I have EXACTLY the same problem as you! I had my classic in bits the other day tryin to suss out whats wrong, but ever since this happend more and more people are coming up with similar issues. I plug my classic in, it recognises it and begins to sync. Then around 100 songs in itunes will freeze and my ipod goes from syncing to just connected and makes weird noiese. I've tried everything so im not sure what to do next. As long as i know its not just me :P

  • How do I transfer photos from my iPad to my iMac?  When I sync, only my iMac photos transfer???

I am trying to move photos on my iPad (not in iPhoto) just "Photos" to my iMac, but I cannot get them to transfer???

If the photos were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then you should be able to copy them off the iPad via iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture on your Mac  : copying photos.
If they are photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • How transfer photos, videos and music from iPod classic to Mac?

I have an iPod classic and trying to transfer my photos, videos and music to the iMac without losing them. The iPod was running on windows software. Any suggstions?

  • IPod Classic 80-gig won't transfer purchases to iTunes Library, nor will it sync. Please help!

My iPod Classic 80gb will not transfer purchases to my iTunes library. When I click the "Transfer Purchase" button, it says it's working, but then I get a pop-up which reads 'Attempting to copy the disk "OS" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)', and following that pop-up is another pop-up, which reads 'The iPod "William's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-69).
I need to transfer the purchases, because I had to restore my laptop (Which is a PC, by the way) to the original factory settings, and I had to re-download iTunes. When I re-downloaded it, I logged in and everything, but all my music was missing. I clicked the "Purchase History" button in the account part, and I clicked the "Download" button in order to regain my lost music, and I waited about 45 minutes or so, only to come back to iTunes saying it had finished, when it had only re-downloaded 75 of my 279 songs.
After this, I went into the help section of iTunes. In that, I clicked "Manage your media files," and from there, I clicked on "Find iTunes files." So, I did what it told me to do, which was to run a full scan on my PC, and I looked everywhere I could think of, and everywhere iTunes suggested my missing music might be located, only to find that I wasted my time.
I am a musician, I CRAVE the music I listen to, and I'm constantly finding new stuff to listen to and research, and if I can't transfer my purchases or sync my device to my library, then that means I can't get new music to listen to on the go, and for me, that is an extreme issue. Obviously, restoring my device is not  an option, because I have nothing to sync it to to get my music back.
Please, if anyone can help me with my situation, I'd be forever grateful.

  • HT1351 Using OverDrive Media from my library I can't transfer audiobooks to my ipod classic

Can anyone tell me how to configure my ipod Classic so I can transfer audiobooks from the library using OverDrive Media.  These particular books are labeled "ipod compatible" but when I try to transfer, after downloading to my computer, I get an error message saying they can't be transferred to my ipod.  I selected the option on my ipod to manually manage something which I know requires that I eject my ipod before disconnecting it from the computer.  Any other help?

What format are these audiobook tracks in? If it's the WAV format it will not work with the iPod Classic. You'll want to use the MP3 version instead from OverDrive.

  • [solved] iPod Classic disconnects during transfer

if I transfer more than a couple songs at a time, my iPod Classic 160GB disconnects during transfer. on Lubuntu, I could get away with about 40 tracks at a time, now it disconnects if I do more than a couple. I'm not sure the issue, lsusb says I'm using a usb 2.0 port
    [ tye@t: ~ ]$ lsusb -s 001:008 -v | grep -i bcdusb
    bcdUSB 2.00
one more detail: when the USB disconnects during transfer, it's no longer visible in lsusb, where as when I eject it it still remains visible.
