Ipod classic update

How do I update my ipod classic version 1.3 30GB so that it will control a Kenwood aftermarket car Stereo? My daughter's Nano will control it. The Kenwood help tech says the problem is my ipod software is too out of date.

Click here and follow the instructions. If it's a fifth generation iPod classic, no further updates are available.

Thanks in Advance for your reading and replying to my Post,

If you haven't removed the previous update from your computer, try this.
Remove the latest 1.0.2 update from the iTunes/iPod updates folder.
On a Mac this is found in (name of)user/library/iTunes/iPod software updates.
Then prevent iTunes from checking the internet for a new update (preferences/general and remove the check mark from "check for updates automatically), then use iTunes to restore in the normal way.
You should then be asked if you want to use the previous version of the iPod software.

  • IPod Classic updating ratings and not play counts in iTunes

I am currently using an iPod classic purchased in 2010 with iTunes 10.5.3.3.  however I encountered the same issue on 10.6.1 which made me think that if I downgraded that it would solve my problem but it hasn't.
Here is my problem. Over the past two weeks, I noticed that when I synched my  iPod my recenlty played playlist number went from 835 to 720. I typically listen to over  fifty songs throughout the course of the day. I have playlist set up to select songs based on a last played date. Last played not in the last 14 days. I last synched my iPod yesterday and I recently setup a new library that is less than 2 weeks old.
On the iPod everything was working fine. When I synched the iPod I noticed that the playlist reverted back to yesterday's status and that my ratings had changed but not the last played date and play counts did not update. Hence breaking the smart playlist functionality of Top 25 Most Played and any other playlist based on play counts. Also my podcasts are not updating as well. I listened to a podcast today and it is still showing up as new after syncing with iTunes.
I noticed that if I do a hard reset (Menu+center button) and resync then the playlist update from the point of the last. I have not encountered this problem until upgrading to 10.6.1.
I even went has far as deleting the itl files and letting iTunes create them again based off the XML and still the problem persists. I even created a new library and added new songs and the problem persist.
I would like to know a good way to getting the sync functionality to work properly and not just sync my ratings. Has anybody encountered this problem?

The rules for my recently played list is as follows:
Last Played is in the last 2 weeks
    Kind does not contain video
    Live updating
Oh and I forgot the Match all is checked.
I have changed my playlist from Apple's default playlist of:
    Match all
Last Played is in the last 2 weeks
    Media Kind is not Podcast
I have found that Media Kind balloon breaks live updating on iPod Classics but the Kind or Genre balloon does not. In the past I could go two to three weeks without syncing as I have over 100 Gigs of music and sometimes could go into recently played to find a song quicker because it would be at the top. Now that isn't the case.  Most of my smart playlist start with Last Played is not with a certain range so I can listen to new songs and I rate songs as I play them so I can get rid of 1 & 2 star songs off my library at a later date. However when I sync my device the songs reappear  on certain smart playlist with no play counts but updated ratings. Like Mix Rap or 4&5 star unplayed.
    For example, Mix: Rap
    Match all is checked
Last Played is not in the last 14 days
Last Skipped is not in the last 7 days
    Rating is not 1 star
    Rating is not 2 star
    any
    Genre contains Hip-Hop
    Genre contains Rap
    Limit to 25 items Random
    Live updating
I am going by the recently played list because I wiped the entire library as of April 3, 2012 so everything I play is still within the two week window. I have a few other playlist that are not updating after syncing. Meaning they are updating on the device and revert after syncing with iTunes.
After writing my post last night I did a clean install of 10.6.1.7. By clean install I mean I deleted all information from my Users\AppData folder related to Apple Computer in Local, Roaming, and LocalLow. I also deleted my .itl, itdb, and sentinel files and imported my Library xml file. I also performed a super fix on my iPod classic as well.  I played a few songs last night and they seem to be running fine. But that's how it always starts out.
Any feedback would be helpful....Thanks for the response turingtest2 by the way

  • My Ipod Classic (160G) no longer synchs completely with iTunes (93G).  Have reset and restored to no avail.  AM about to try roll back to a previous version of iTunes, which has been on auto update.

My iPod Classic (160G) used to sync flawlessly with iTunes (93G).
Recently, there seem to be fewer folders syncing.  In particular, it is not syncing more recent adds.  It also occassionally refuses to sync at least one mp3 downloaded from  Amazon.com, giving an unable to sync message with an error code or 50.
I'm running iTunes version 10.7, and the software (2.04) on myiPod is current.
I only use the iPod for music.  I have only one playlist.
Reset and restore did not fix the problem; I'm considering rolling back to a previous version of iTunes.  Are there any other  ideas to consider?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

iTunes and its sync process with your iPod have been know to choke once the amount of data that needs to be transferred, replaced, or updated, reaches a certain size limit in GBs.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.
This ipod holds huge sentimental value and i am loathe to buy a new one! If anybody can help it is greatly appreciated, than kyou in advanced.

  • After updating to iTunes 11.1, i'm getting error 42404. Everything's working fine though, other than my iPod classic which is now getting automatically ejected when I try to connect it.

I'm on Windows 8 64bit, and I have a 160gb iPod classic which has worked perfectly on all versions of iTunes including 11. Just a couple of days ago I updated to 11.1, and now when I open iTunes it gives me that error message. Re-installing or repairing iTunes has absolutely no effect, I've done that about 10 times now.
Everything in the program actually works fine, but when I try to connect my iPod, it says "connected, do not disconnect" for about 10 seconds before flashing up the "sync in progress" screen for about half a second, and then it goes to "okay to disconnect".
I have connected the iPod in disk mode and exactly the same thing happens.
Any ideas? Is my iPod now a brick until apple does another update?

Upgrading to itunes 7.0 just cost me 2 days of messing around and in the end I had to revert back to v6.0 and resore my lib.
Apple CS was good but did not belly up the fact that 7.0 is defective in some cases and in the end told me I had a hardware problem!
The main issue is that I could not get itunes 7.0 to see my ipod (very infrequently after a hard boot I would see it but would not be able to upload anything). Worked(s) 100% with v 6.0.
This is very defintey 1/2 baked following in the steps of the other well known producers of sw that is not always functional/buggy the first time around.

  • Ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • How can I update my iPod classic that will not mount on iMac computer?

I can't update my iPod classic from my iTunes on my iMac computer with OSX 10.9.  It will not mount or be recognized by iTunes version 12.1.
I plug it into the USB port and it charges, gives the "Do not disconnect" symbol but the computer does not recognize or mount the iPod at all.  I haven't been able to update the music for years. I have four other devices associated with my Apple ID for automatic downloads. Is it too antiquated to upload any of my music from my computer to it anymore?

    Ahh! The plot thickens!
I went thru the console and read the error logs. It appears that the .ipsw file does load.....I think. It's been years since I spoke computer....
Here is what I got after double clicking the .ipsw file and iTunes opened:

  • Since updating itunes to version 10 my ipod classic will not sync any new music that I have added to itunes, can anyone help

I recently updated iTunes to version 10.3.1.55. Since then when I try to sync my IPod classic it says on the top of iTunes (where the barbers pole is) "Step 1of1 Determining Tracks to Sync". This stays like that for about 15 minutes before a message pops up saying "Itunes could not copy ""song title name here"" to the Ipod because an unknown error occurred (-50)". This message pos up for every song title that has been added to itunes since the itunes update. Therefore I am unable to sync any new music. This only happens when syncing the ipod as the iphone syncs with no problems.
Does any one have a solution?

There's a good guide here on how to roll back to 10.7 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4559563?tstart=0

  • Updated now itunes will not recognize my ipod classic

I just updated to the most recent version of itunes and now itunes does not realize that my ipod classic is plugged in so I cannot sync nor can I even format if that was required. My PC sees I'm plugged in and I have even reinstalled itunes. Any ideas?

Well I solved my problem just in case anyone needs to do it in the future.
Opened windows explorer and located the device. Right click then selected format. I left everything as it was and then told it to format. Once the ipod was formatted I put it into disc mode and connected to the computer. Itunes recognized the ipod then made me restore it. once it restarted it recognized the device and synced right up.

  • IPod Classic will not update certain playlists

I have a 120GB iPod Classic running software 2.0.1, and I cannot get it to update some playlists. Some will have a different album artwork than in iTunes, and the couple that I really care about are in reverse order.
I tried creating new playlists of the same albums with slightly different names, but they still show up in reverse order on the iPod, which doesn't work so well for a story.
Last nigth I got so frustrated that I restored my iPod to try to get it to work, but still the same playlists are showing up in reverse order.
I have tried restarting my iPod, reseting it, restoring it. I have even run diskwarrior on my iPod, and have tried trashing the com.apple.iPod.plist, to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas, or am I SOL?

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!

  • Can't update my Ipod classic's software. My Window's Vista Home Edition will not load the latest version of Itunes, and the older versions will not allow my Ipod to connect to the update server

I have an Ipod Classic, 80 gig. It's over 3 years old. I have a Samsung SensR410 laptop, also over 3 years old, running Vista Home Premium 32bit but '64bit Compatible'
    I had iTunes 8.
One day my Ipod stopped working.
    I formatted it.
    I uninstalled iTiunes.
    I re-installed iTunes.
But the latest version would not be loaded on my PC. I chose English as the language, but because I bought my laptop in Korea, some parts of the installation were in Korea. I uninstalled it, following the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
I re-installed iTunes 8. It loaded, but when I plugged in my Ipod, it said that the Ipod needed to be updated/restored, 'click to contact updater' but then it could not contact the server. I tried: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1814but it didn't help.
I tried downloading iTunes 9, it loaded, but the Ipod would not connect.
    Help, please!

    Hi Edward,
You should still be able to manually manage the music on your iPhone within iTunes. Make sure that when your iPhone is plugged in, look in the Summary tab to see if “Manually manage music and videos” is enabled and you can even you turn off Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected. Take a look at the first article below to give more information on that. As far as your other questions about calling someone, I have provided two options for you. If it is for feedback on iTunes, you can use the second link to give detailed feedback on what is going on. If you want to actually talk to someone, the last link has a list of numbers for you to call for any support or service that you may need.

  • Can't update to latest iTunes, ipod touch not appearing in current iTunes but iPod classic is.  HALP!

    Hi there.
This is driving me absolutely mad!
I am not completely computer illeterate but I don't want to go poking around in any registry files and things like that as I would most likely break the Universe if I did.
Basically, for some random reason a few months ago iTunes wanted me to download it's new version.  I said ok and it proceeded to do it's thing.  Then I heard the 'I'M BROKEN' sound that my laptop makes when something goes wrong or there is an error and it's saying that there is an error with something or other and it can't complete my request to update.
After that I have not been able to connect my ipod touch 4th gen.  At all.  To anything.  I've tried downloading alternatives to iTunes to see if I could work around things that way but it seems my ipod won't connect to them either.
I've fiddled around with USB's, buying new ones, going into my computer and poking around in there to see if I can do something, all to no avail.
Strange thing is, everything recognises my ipod classic.  Now yes, I could just use that but I want to use my touch! It cost enough, I might as well use it.  If I can't I'll sell it and I'll never buy anything from Apple again as it seems that if one thing goes wrong, there is no way around it.
I have scoured these boards for answers.  I have followed pretty much every single solution that Apple can give via the FAQ's and troubleshooting things.
I have also tried connecting my touch to a friends computer and it is recognised there so it's an itunes or laptop problem and not the ipod.  It still connects as a camera, my USB drivers are up to date.  I've tried deleting and then reinstalling itunes and that doesn't work as it WON'T INSTALL.
I was thinking that perhaps formatting my ipod might help but there is no point as it's not the ipod that is the problem.
If anyone wants me to screenshot the error message then I will be more than happy to do so.
I just really want some help!
Thanks to whoever reads this =D
