Ipod classic white screen

already did the 5Rs, my ipod can still sync w/ itunes, can play music but the screen is still in white.
i've tried giving it to the authorized service center but to my disappointment they said it's out of warranty since they diagnosed it as an "lcd problem" apparently, according to them, apple does not repair this kind of problem and does not replace LCDs of ipod. hence the only options is to trade it to a new ipod which would cost me bout buying a brand new ipod.
can anyone has other alternative?
does apple really do not service replacement parts?

Hello psi3984,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
can anyone has other alternative?
You can opt to either send it into a third party repair company or purchase the replacement part and do the job yourself using the guides provided at [ifixit|http://www.ifixit.com>.
Just do a Google search for "ipod repair" and you should receive a plethora of sites that can assist you.

  • New iPod classic - white screen

    Hi,
Just bought an iPod classic. After charging there is only a white screen. But it is working, I could listen to music on it, but I can't anything but a white screen on it.
I've downloaded the newest software but that didn't seem to work. I've had another iPod plugged to iTunes (a 5th generation), could this the problem or do I have to get back to the store to get a hold of another copy?

Try resetting the ipod by pressing the menu and select buttons for about 6 seconds until the apple logo shows.

  • HT1435 my ipod classic's screen is flickering when charged to a computer

my ipod classic's screen  when connected to a computer is flickering(blinking) and when the time i have to restore it- it won't  what actions will i do with it? Thanks for your answers

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Likely that the cracks propagated to cause your current problem.

  • Ipod Touch - White Screen Lock Out - Apple response poor/process inflexible

    Hi
I have 2 Touchs and one has the random white screen issue. Screens goes grey`white and there's nothing you can do, till what seems like it needs to be recharged. i haven't had this happen when at home and near the 'master dock' .
I see thats its a prob that is more and more common, and have also seen on other forums that Apple are acknowledging it and in some cases have been providing freebies as sweeteners as well (allegedly).
So first - does anyone have any 'fixes' - other than what I have seen which is a replacement?
And secondly this is my 'Apple Service experience so far'
I called Apple UK support on Thursday morning, and pressed the options for Ipod and then Touch.
A woman answered and as soon as I told her my issue she advised she was IPHONE SUPPORT ONLY as that was section I had come through to and could not help me. I asked to be put through to relevant help section.
On hold for a few mins then line went dead.
Called back - making sure i pressed Ipod Touch options - in case it was user error first time - (it wasn't BTW) anyway got put through to IPHONE support again. This time the woman agreed to help, although i shall temper that by saying that my perception was that she started that day and had a script of 'if x do y' questions.
I explained the issue and that I had carried out web research. She was very polite but asked me questions I had already answered in my pre amble - i.e. screen is locked out, no response from buttons etc - but I was still asked what happens when you press the power button. Anyway I stuck with it - she then asked what firmware I had, and i advised I just upgraded to 1.2.
Ah thats the problem - you need to upgrade to LEOPARD (I have Tiger). That annoyed me as clearly thats rubbish and was really her ' ad libbing' I explained I had 2 touchs and other was fine.
She consulted a colleague and suggested I either send it in or make an appt at my local Apple store. Thats when it really went down hill...
More disappointed at the process, I called my local store (Regent Street - London) and was advised that the Touch would be replaced under warranty - but that I needed to make an appt to have that done, and no they couldn't make an appt on line (you are warned that up front in the recorded message before you get to speak to anyone). This I find odd - two people from Apple advise I can get a replacement under warranty, yet I have to make an appt - thats not good service.
As i am nearby, I decide to go to the Apple store anyway. I get same story and ask to speak to the manager. He is very well trained. He says all the diplomatic things, he agrees unit will be replaced under warranty, but says I have to see a technician - but I cant until tomorrow at earliest.
What then follows is a discussion about the process - his argument is that it allows the customer to attend at a time that suits them (but it suited me NOW - I was nearby). In reality the converse is true you can only chose a slot that suits apple.
The manager, stated that there are two diff stocks of goods. Items for sales and items for replacement. I suggested that he went to the replacement pile and provided one from that. NBo go - the technical dept could only do that.
I agree that booking for TECH SUPPORT is a great idea, but for a product replacement under warranty - especially when 3 people (and user forums) had advised this would be the case - this is not good service at all. The manager looked at me and uttered platitudes along the lines of ' thats your opinion', ' you are entitled to think that' - all of them verging on patronising. he even went as far to say that customers like being able to book a slot - erm - they have no choice!
He advised he 'would take my views on board' and would 'pass them on to the manager' - he was in fact the deputy manager. I left my details and explicitly asked for her comments - needless to say I am still waiting.
So i feel like I have fallen out with a close friend. I have been an Apple convert for 2 years now and this is our first major falling out. I am annoyed, as a customer, at being treated like this and forced into such a rigid system, and bitterly disappointed that a company that has such a a wonderful end user experience in terms of the products themselves and the sales side should treat loyal customers (in fact any customers) this way when trying to dal with faulty goods!
So, anyone have any thoughts - agree/disagree - who can I voice this to in Apple - the store doesn't seem to care past lip service!
I will also try to repost this on the general area if there is one
    Rgds

    Hi,
I used to work at an Apple Store so I have 2 summers of customer service experience under my belt. Let me just say that, yes, I empathize. Some of the store policies are ridiculous, which is partly why I left the company. Well, ok no, I just like to say that that's why I left. I'm actually a student.
Anyways, whoever told you that you can't make an appointment at the Genius Bar was WRONG. Shame on them. Go to this website (it's just apple.com/uk/retail (and Regent Street's site specifically) and on the right hand side there's a column for you to click Genius Bar Reserve.
    http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/regentstreet/week/20071118.html
Here's the entire gist of the store policy. The store is obligated to give you a new iPod Touch if there's a manufacturer defect within 2 weeks of your original purchase. You'll still need a Genius Bar appointment, but all they do is take a look at it, confirm that it's a defect, and they'll return it for you (& they'll label it as DOA - Dead on arrival), and give you a new one. Easy.
I'm guessing you are outside of the 14 day period which is causing you all the trouble. So now we're talking about the year warranty. So you got your replacement iPod touch. Should there still be a defect in your replacement, you still have 14 days from the day you received THAT iPod touch to get a new one. There's a chance that if you talk to the manager (a different one and there are several), he'll hook you up with a brand new iPod touch, without having to go through replacement protocol.
The manager you talked with sounds like a jerk to me, and believe me, I hate it when Apple employees try to think theyre "all that." We student employees used to laugh at how seriously some employees took it. But really, those guys are there to help you and give you solutions, at least that's the company line. With that in mind, demand them to do what's right. I wish I could actually help you. I used to take care of people in situations like these all the time.
    Good luck.

  • IPod Classic's screen when connecting to ITunes

With my IPod Classic 80GB with displying time on the menu, when connecting(Syncing) to ITunes, where time was displyed on the top grey line like 8:20PM for example, it turns into a meaningless letter 'P'.
If the time is like 8:20AM, no such letter will appear on this grey line.
Is this for everyone's ipod classics? Or only mines stuffed.
No fault on its functions, but curious if this is just a stuff up by Apple.
    Your yes/no is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm seeing the same here, too. Letter "P" on top of the screen when connected to iTunes.
I will see if turning off the clock in the display or switching to 24hour time works. Hadn't noticed if connected in the AM makes a difference since I usually synch up at night in the PM.
The iPod seems to operate just fine otherwise.

  • Ipod nano, white screen of death

my ipod nano4gb went to a white screen, still plays and i can update, but only a white screen, makes playback by menu memory a bit challenging. any event, went to Man Beach apple store for repair, booked a genius, spoke with buddy and a replacement is ready for pick up. three days total delivery, 90 minutes wait for the genius. Great Job Apple! Wow!
also, on a separate note, while waiting for the genius, i was continually amazed by the level of customer enthusiasm in the store, even the genius bar is a "stroke of genius" by apple marketing. direct customer interaction, peripheral customer involvement, all genius's well trained and communicative. it was an "experience" that i spoke glowingly about to my friends and colleagues about for several days.
    great apple experience!
(no, I don't work for apple. just an honest observation from a marketing manager for a less glamorous product line... marketing envy....;)

Yeah the same thing just happened to me on saturday. It doesn't look like the screens cracked or broken at all. it's just a white screen. I could still play music and update and all. Screen jus makes it hard to navigate. I contacted yesterday apple and they're sending me a box to ship to them so they can check it out. Not sure if they'll fix it though.

  • IPod Nano white screen of death - RESURRECTED! :D

Alright, here's the deal...A friend of mine has a new iPod Nano and gave it to me because it had stopped working, and was hoping it was worth something to recover. Sorry about the long story!
It _wouldn't_ turn on. But, when connecting it to the computer via the USB dock cable, it comes on for a few seconds on a grey-whitish screen. Then turns back off, reboots, and tries again. Step 1 step 2. Nothing.
Although, 'Diagnostics mode' or whatnot it is, does work however. It would still be a faint grey screen, but whiter and more vibrant, as if it's saying "Hey, I'm alive! I'm alive!!!" and I can go through settings and make it (sometimes) change colors, and reboot the iPod.
I was thinking since iTunes never recognized it (It was plugged in the whole time) that I would drown in just for the sake of it.
Well, 3 hours later after attempting to kill the poor thing, it... resurrected itself.
I'm serious, it really seems to have unbelievably done it. When turning it on, I get 2 beeps, but no restart loop, the LCD stays on the white screen though, BUT, here's the good thing.
NOW, I hear the system 'click' sounds when using the buttons and such that it's going through the menu, good news so far! It seems like it because after the 'boot' sequence (it appears to boot very fast, strangely).
The good thing is (kinda) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1517571?start=0&tstart=0 ... So I suspect that somehow, this method of submerging it under water, letting it dry, blowdrying it, and then leaving it in the heat, somehow restored the SD chip inside of it... possibly only for now... I'm going to use this moment to hopefully get all data off the device, and see for one last time if it's fully restorable...
I have the power! Ok, so I hooked it up to the wall charger (just put the wall connector on the USB cord) and it now beeps two times, and after about 30 seconds or so, I get to the main menu, screen still white, but I can certainly hear the click letting me know I'm 'navigating' the iPod. It doesn't appear to have any music on it, or maybe it does, but I need to connect some earphones first. Or, it supposed to be display the 'sad iPod' icon, but I just don't see it, therefor, I'm blind as to the status of it.
I likely guess it's the battery, since every time I disconnect it, it goes dead. Yep, just looked back, still on. Yep, still menu clicking. Yep, I can start it with no problems now. Any clue what I can try to do to resolve this? Obviously it's turning on, and it seems to be doing something, it boots, (apparently) so that's a good sign.
Please, is there any hope at all in this iPod?  At all?
AND, IT JUST BEEPED 2 TIMES AGAIN! And I was just typing... why did it do this? (Funny thing is, how it still works!) Is that really the menu button clicking? That would explain it, I mean it only plays the menu clicking sound AFTER about 30 seconds of it 'booting' to the iPod firmware, so it obviously has some sort of life to it. If I hook up my earphones... Holy Mac! I hear music! It's alive!!! It's alive!!! Oh my man!!! Yes!
It has hope, in a way!
Atleast, I hope, but it works! Freaking amazing! Jamming to some awesome beats right now, some cool hip hop, sound quality you ask? Great, actually! I don't know how, don't want to know, but it seems trying to kill this iPod actually resulted in it being resurrected? How? Who knows! This is awesome! iPod truly CAN have 2 lives, I guess!
Cool stuff, I swear on that! My favorite song was on here too!
How to adjust the volume on the iPod Nano? I don't care, it's playing at full volume, and it's awesome!
The sad thing is, it still has the white screen of death, and the battery is apparently fried still (or needs a good 24-hour charging).
This iPod has been sitting dead as a dud in the storage room for a good 1 year or so, unused. And now it came back to life in a flash. Unbelievable.
    I love you Apple.

Your problem was moisture. It was wet inside and sitting around for a year let it all dry up.
If you get this kind of thing happening, speed the process up by putting the iPod into a zip lock baggie with a dessicant (you know those little silica pouches) or even some rice to absorb the moisture. Let it sit for a few days and it should dry it all out.

  • IPOD and white screen asking in different languages

    Hello everyone
My ipod has been acting up for the pass few months and now i have had enough.
When my ipod is connected to my fm tuner, when it is time to take the tuner off, it gives me a white screen saying in different languages to connect to computer and restore. I have restored my ipod about 20 times in the past months. I work on linux and have a vitual windows xp
is my ipod broken or what

Hopefully the battery has leak after long disused.
Recharge the iPod battery for at least 4 hours, normally it would take 30 minutes of recharge before the screen comes to live.
Disconnect the iPod, safely, after charging.
If your battery is good and can recharge fully.
Hard Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
    Select your preferred language.
Connect your iPod back to the Mac, and see if it is recognised by iTunes or Finder
Good Luck! and you will need it when syncing your iPod.

  • IPod shows white screen or dark

My 5th generation (60gb) iPod shows a bright white screen, so I have done de steps listed in other threads, pressing center and menu buttons for a few secs, and after that the bright white screen goes gray and i push the center and play buttons. All this while plugged to macbook...and then it shows in iTunes. I have my music and I can play it, I can sync, etc...all in iTunes. I have restored it, and am running the latest iTunes software. Still my screen remains white or gray and cannot use the iPod if it's not plugged to the mac, since i can't see anything on the screen.
    Any suggestions? Is this common?

well    This did not help me... The screen is still solid white and I can't get it to do anything in reference to restarting.   I can only look inside of the Ipod folder whenb my computer sees it when USB is plugged in.   Any other thoughts?

  • Ipod with white screen

My son was downloading the update to his iPod.  He thought it was locked up and did a force shut off.  Now when you turn his ipod on it shows the apple as though it is starting up correctly and then immediately goes to a blue line which transforms into the dreaded white screen.  You cannot force shut it off.  I have tried to connect it to iTunes on 2 different computers and it's not recognized on either.  I have let the battery drain and then plug it in to charge it and it still automatically turns on and goes back to the white screen.  It is only 5 months old.

Then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You tired all there is to try.

  • IPod Video - white screen, no video, won't turn off either

    Greetings.
I have an iPod video that recently has been giving me quite a bit of trouble. The lcd doesn't display the menu or anything 95% of the time. The backlight turns on so it looks like it's powered, but I can't see the menu or anything else. When I turn it off, dark lines, sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical go across the screen. The lines also sometimes appear as colored lines when the screen is lit.
Also it doesn't want to turn off via holding the center and menu buttons. It will go dark, then I'll feel some minor mechanical vibrations followed by an audible click (not the wheel). If I let the buttons go after about 10 seconds the screen turns on again to white screen without any video.
If I keep holding down the center and menu buttons, then it will continue to do cycles of the mechanical movements followed by the audible click, then do the movements and click again and again. Once I let go, the white screen reappears.
I've tried accessing the diagnostic mode, but that doesn't work since it just starts up in the white screen mode with no video.
I'm way past my warrenty. I've already opened my iPod several times to ensure all of the wires are firmly attached. I think its the LCD, but since it has trouble turning completely off, I wasn't sure if that means it's actually the logic board.
Any suggestions? Would it be a smart to try replacing the LCD screen? Or is it R.I.P. for my iPod?
    Thanks!

Hopefully the battery has leak after long disused.
