Ipod classic will not restore and will not work after many attempts

I have purchased and replaced 3 ipod models, This is my third one (80GB ipod classic) and with out fail after 1 year and 2 months after buying it, it stopped syncing with my itunes and now after 5 attempts to restore it will not restore and will not work. I am sick of this and find it preposterous. What is wrong with ipods..? what is wrong with my recent one?

I have tried to restore via itunes and I still get the same message on the Ipod after many many restore attempts."Use iTunes to restore" with the picture of a plug on the screen and then it just shuts down. Exactly 1 year and 2 months after I purchased it as was the previous Ipod I had in 07.... what is going on?
Are ipods not made to work with both macs and pc's? it seems they just shut down after a while
what can I do?

  • Ipod classic has white screen and do not disconnect when connected to computer and ok to disconnect when not connected to computer and stays on recognized in computer but not in itunes

has anyone had this problem followed the steps to rest but i keep getting the same problem

If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • IPod Classic won't Restore and FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES! Help.

    Hi. First, the specifics:
I have an iPOD Classic (120GB).
    I have Windows Vista R2 (64-bit).
I have the latest version of iTunes, yes, for 64-bit.
With that out of the way, I started seeing issues with my iPod not being able to play certain songs. I'd find the song, hit the play arrow, nothing would happen. The time would not move, song would not play. Here's what I've tried to do initially:
    Re-install iTunes, re-sync.
Still wouldn't play these songs.. Not all, but many songs.
    So, I tried to Restore.
Initially, it looked like it was restoring properly - - but took way longer than usual. Like 2 hours. At the end, I got an error "Could not sync this song, Could not sync iPod."
I looked at iPod, had to set it up, choose ENGLISH as language, etc.  Search iPod, found NO MUSIC, NO VIDEOS, etc.
    Tried simply re-syncing, wouldn't work.
So, I disconnected, restarted my computer and tried to RESTORE again.
I connect it via a USB 2.0 and the iPod cable. I have been doing this for years and years and this iPod has worked for the 3 years I have had it.
I have had iPod since their inception, so I'm not a rookie. I also have an iPhone and an iPad2.
So I connect the iPod as usual. NOW, it basically FREEZES iTunes. I CONTL-ALT-DEL and find it's always iTunes (NOT RESPONDING).
This happens EVERY TIME... I tried restarting several times, same issue.
So, I unistalled all components of iTunes > RESTART COMPUTER.
I re-download the latest version of iTunes, yes the correct one.
I tried syncing or restoring. DOESN'T RECOGNIZE iPOD, FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES.
HERE'S OTHER THINGS I have tried:
RESTORING from DISK MODE. (DID NOT WORK, LOCKS iTUNES)
I downloaded the Windows Update for Vista that helps not corrupt iPod when disconnecting too early.
Downloaded update, did NOT help with the issue.
Un-installed iTunes again. Restarted computer. Re-installed newest version of iTunes.
ONE THING TO POINT OUT, when I connect my iPod, iTunes launches if not open and I get a WINDOWS box that says:
    MICROSOFT WINDOWS:
Do You Want To Scan And Fix Errors on Steven's iPod (L:) ??
I tried both options: YES, Try to Fix, NO - Continue
That doesn't work, and iTunes still freezes regardless of option.
Again, tried DISK MODE, tried Regular mode...
    Nothing works...
    PLEASE HELP...

Guys, if you all having the same problem as Steven, then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
Main cause is the iPod Hardisk is dying, but if the DD report are good, then it is the USB connection timeout.
So have a go at the Disk Diagnostic first.

  • Ipod classic 80 freezes itunes and won't work

upgraded itunes to 10.1 (etc). plugged in formerly operating ipod classic 80. it showed up in the device list,. but i could not move the cursor off music. had to use ctrl-alt-delete to close itunes.
ipod would not disconnect. tried to disconnectg by clicking on eject media (i'm using windows 7), but nothing happened. was forced to disconnect ipod the wrong way- by pulling out the usb, and only then did uit say- ok to disconnect.
    itunes then unfroze.
removed itunes following apples list of how to do it. reinstalled itunes.
reset ipod. started itunes. music plays in itunes. plugged ipod in. it showed up in the device lisiting, but i was unable to left click on it. (however- it trid to sync this time - but i got message that said 'the ipod "jose L morales's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found. (and no option but OK)'This time when i right-clicked on the ipod lising, it let me click on eject ipod.
    i clicked- it didn't disconnect.
now i have ipod with no music and can't put any music on it.
    any suggestions.
and yes- i installed the 64 bit itunes in the 64 bit program files

actually thats what i tried- but on a computer running itunes 9.
plugged ipod i. it would let me transfer music from itunes to ipod (in disk mode), but when unplugged the ipod did not retain the music.
so restored it, and downloaded updated ipod software (not itunes software.
    seems to be working now.
    (i hope)

  • N97 freezes, does not restore and does not install...

Having read a few of the problems that some people have out there, I think my issue is more serious than half of them out there.
    Here's how it started:
I bought the Nokia N97 and used Bluetooth to transfer my contacts from my N95. Right from the bat, the phone would freeze at some points. This was usually right after an incoming call would end, and the phone screen would still display the options for answering or rejecting the call. In fact, the freeze was pretty weird because even though everything was frozen, the little "phone" icon would still flash between yellow and green colors.
Anyway, I thought maybe it needed an update, so I updated it to the latest v11.0.21 version, but this didn't change things at all.
So, when v12 came out, I was full of hope. My Ovi Suite was saying that I should update my phone, so I did.
The problem is that the installation was not successful. The Ovi Suite says that the phone disconnected even though I am much too careful to disconnect the USB cable or even touch it during the update.
This was two days ago, and I was left with a phone that wouldn't even turn on.
I took it to the Nokia Service Point yesterday and today it was working again. Fantastic, so far!
The problem is that now, the Ovi Suite cannot restore my contacts to the phone. Again, it says that the connection is interrupted, no matter how many times I've tried this.
The Ovi Suite also says that it cannot install the Support Software on the phone. It just says that the installation fails as soon as it starts.
So, with some 300+ contacts, the phone is pretty useless to me.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you in advance,
    George

I click "restor to factory settings" and then the same error message comes up when it's complete. iTunes does recognize my iPod, it just doesn't seem to realize that I've already done what it's telling me to do. Going around and circles and can't get my music on...:( Help, please?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi Goofy Goat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting for your iPod nano that is not responding. In this situation, if resetting it did not resolve, I would suggest restoring the iPod back to its factory settings and then sync your content back onto it from iTunes. Please use the following article as a resource for restoring.

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.

please help me my ipod nano 7g went off and will not start, this happened after I connect to my computer, my ipod will restart and I no longer turn on. what I do?

    Hey saintbless,
Thanks for the question. The following article outlines troubleshooting information for iPod nano. While it mostly refers to the 6th generation, most steps apply for your model as well:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3474
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
    - Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
    - If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
    - If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
    - If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
