IPod classic will only charge from my computer

I have an iPod Classic 80gb and it won't charge from my wall charger or my car charger it will only charge from my iMac and MacBook Pro what can I do to fix this.

If it charges from your computer, then there is nothing wrong with your iPod charging. The problem then goes to your charger.
just in case, try a 12w charger or use a different charger.

  • Phone won't charge from standalone chargers, will only charge from a computer.

This is a bit strange.  My iPhone 4 (at&t) won't accept a change from any of my chargers (the one that came with it, the iPad charger, third-party chargers), it will only accept a charge from a computer.  The same chargers work OK for other devices (iPhone 3G, iPod, iPad).  This happened both in 4.x and 5 (I just upgraded, hoping to fix it).

Clean the iPhone Dock Port with a clean dry toothbrush. See if this helps. If not, clean again with the toothbrush and a small amount of Isopropyll Alcohol, clean especially the Pins which are on top of the Dock Mid Rib.

  • HT1384 iPod Classic will not charge from wall outlet

My iPod Classic 80G will charge from my computers and my iHome dock, but not from the wall outlet. The cord, outlet, and adapter all work. We know the regular adapter works, it's an Apple universal USB to wall adapter that charges our iPad. We tried other cords (have two), other outlets, and even my kindle 2-prong adapter. Nothing worked. Suggestions?

    Hello there, Anhaja.
First off, great job in your isolating steps performed already. One step that wasn't mentioned is found in the following Knowledge Base article:
    How to reset iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
    For your particular model:
How to reset an iPod with a Click Wheel
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • My ipod touch will only charge on my computer. What should I do?

I have an iPod touch 3rd generation 32GB with iOS 4.3.3 that will charge and sync on my computer. But if it is plugged into a wall, car, or dock charger it will not charge. I believe it is a software problem because it works on the computer. I have already tried: going into settings>General>Reset> Reset all settings, I did a full restore through iTunes, I have tried out many different chargers, I updated to the latest iOS and still I have had no luck. I'm pretty smart about technological things but I just can't figure this thing out.
Thanks so much for any help!

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

  • My ipod nano will only charge in my computer

I have a 4gen ipod nano, that used to charge with the power adapter, my speakers, my car and my computer but now, none of them would work, except my computer

What other (besides computer) charging source are you trying?
What do y mean by " cord and cable"? I am confused by the term "and" since the they are one and the same

  • TS2771 My iPod touch will only charge through computer, new wall charger will not charge it, but charges other iPods

My sons iPod touch will only charge with computer. This has happened since update. Wall charger charges other iPods/iPhone. Restored to original defaults. And still does not work.

I believe it started with the update prior to 5.1.1.  I just udated it to the 5.1.1, thinking it would resolve the problem.

  • My ipod classic will not charge or turn on

MY IPOD CLASSIC WILL NOT CHARGE OR TURN ON

Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.

  • Ipod classic doesn't charge from 24Volt

MyiPod classis A1238 doen't charge from 24 Volt and from wall charger. It does from USB connected to my iMac.
    What could be wrong?
All original cables. exchanging checked cables doesn't work either.

    Agoris010 wrote:
...12V car charger is not working...
...Funny thing is it is charging with a 12V Parrot car kit with dock connector.
So the 12v Parrot car kit is different to the 12v car charger then? Or is one of these items actually the 24v charger you referred to earlier?
    A few points to note:
Any Apple charger should be okay. If the wall charger is non-Apple, make sure to check the rating.
Whatever the source, the output from the charger needs to be at least 500mA. This "output rating" should be writtten on the device somewhere, as 5v 500mA or similar. If the charger supplies only 300mA (a common rating) this will not charge an iPod Classic.
Car batteries supply 12 volts. So a car charger needs to change the 12 volts to 5 volts. Some old iPods could be charged with 12 volts and some (not so old) iPod models could be charged by either 12 or 5 volts. However, the voltage was supplied on a different "line" (or wire) into the iPod. So a charger that changes 12 volts to 5, but feeds the 5 volts on the 12 volt line, will not change an iPod. As far as I recall, no iPod Classic can be charged with 12 volts, all Classics use 5 volts. (See point 5 about the definition of a Classic.)
A 24 volt charger (to which you referred originally) would presumably be for a commercial vehicle. So a charger designed for 24 volt supply in, needs to step down (change the voltage) to 5 volts out.
Here's a major point: is your iPod actually a Classic, as defined by this article; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 ? If it is not either an 80GB, 120GB or 160GB iPod, then it is not a Classic. In that case, check with the article to correctly identify your iPod.
If your car charger has a plug-in lead, with a plug that can be turned around to supply the same voltage, but with opposite polarity, then you need to check that the lead is connected the correct way.

  • Ipod touch will only charge in docking station after 3.0 upgrade

Prior to my recent (this week) upgrade to 3.0, my ipod touch could charge off of my desktop computer, my laptop, and my Apple USB wall charger adapter. That adapter is not the current version, but the prior model. Since I've done the upgrade, the ipod touch no longer recognizes it's attached to the adapter (and the wall outlet) or to the USB cable and computer. I am using the Apple supplied USB cable, so it is not a matter of using non apple equipment or Firewire. This week, it will only charge using a lamp that has a docking station. I've had the ipod touch about 4 months, and didn't have this issue until the 3.0 upgrade. Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on how to fix it?

If the iPhone has no problem with the same cable then
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My new Ipod classic will only synch purchased music from my Windows 8,1 computer

My Ipad and an older Ipod synch the entire library, but the  new Ipod classic won't see anything but music purchased from the Itunes store. I have used both the entire library option and the manual option, but neither will see anything but the purchased music. Please help!!!

I had something similar occur when I purchased a new I-Pod. Sync did everything except vids I had downloaded from YouTube.( These are placed in films/home films.)
Apple support rang me after about 30 secs and talked me through how to sync these and done within 5 mins. All vids now synced on my I-Pod.

  • 3rd Gen Ipod Classic - will USB charge work or only firewall?

I just inherited a 3rd Gen Classic Ipod. I don't have capability to charge with firewall - will USB charging work and if not, how to I charge it?

You need the same kind of charger as you returned, but instead of the USB one, you need the firewire one. Apple sells these.
The problem with not having a firewire port on your computer is that if the iPod is connected via USB, it won't charge whist it's transferring songs. This is a very large drain on the iPod's battery and you'll find that the battery runs out in the middle of the transfer (especially if it's a lot of songs you're transferring).
There used to be a cable that had both firewire and USB plugs on it so you could plug the firewire end into the wall charger and the usb end into your computer and so get power to the iPod whilst transferring data.
I haven't seen one of these cables for a while now, but Google might turn something up.
You could of course transfer very small amounts of songs from iTunes to iPod before the battery runs out, then re-charge via the wall charger, but this isn't an ideal solution.
    EDIT.
Here you go, this is the type of cable I mean.

  • My Ipod Classic Will Not Connect To My Computer

I've had this ipod (new classic 120gb) for about a month and I have had not problem connecting it to my computer in the past. I connect it and it will put my songs and videos on it. But now I connect it as usual and the only message that stays on my ipod screen is:
    Connected
    Eject before connecting
and the picture switches between two arrows going in a circle and the picture of the the connection to the ipod of the usb cable. And then when I try to click in Itunes it doesn't do anything. I have Itunes minimized and I can open it but I can't click anything. Not even the close button up the top right corner.
So I then just disconnect my ipod, it will turn off and then when i turn it on it still works but only the songs and videos I had on there before are there and the new stuff I tried to put on there isn't.
Also after Itunes will resume and come up with a message saying
'the ipod ___ cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found'
then it will appear again for the videos. I haven't touched a thing and suddenly this starts happening. I'd appreciate help. I have a basic knowledge of most of the workings of computers so I'm confident I'll be able to understand instructions on how to fix this.
That is as much detail as I can provide. Need more? Let me know and I'll give you what you need

  • IPod Classic will only sync with iTunes 11.0.2.26 in disk mode - can you help?

Hello, I am running Windows 8 64 bit with iTunes 11.0.2.26.  This is a new PC and this is the first time I have tried to use it with my iPod.  My iPod classic does not show up in Windows or in iTunes.  The only way I have been able to sync anything is in disk mode.  When syncing in disk mode the iPod appears in Windows and then disappears again when it ihas finished.
I have tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, but this has not sorted out the problem.  The iPod device troubleshooter can not see the device.  I have tried several different usb slots and two different sync cables.  I can not see the iPod in device manager.
My iPod model is MB565 version 2.0.1 PC.
I would like to be able to sync my device as normal and to see if there are any updates available for my iPod classic, which as iTunes currently can't see the device, is not possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Many thanks!

Well I finally figured out the problem, not thanks to anyone from Apple for that matter. You would asume this problem has happened before and is still happening. The problem was I couldn't copy certain songs anymore from iTunes to my iPod Classic. When trying to copy certain songs I got an error.
If you have this problem it means your song file is corrupted. You can simply check this by trying to copy it from your hard drive to an external hard drive. Here you will also get an error message.
This means you need to replace all the corrupted files by a back up on your hard drive or download it again. I did this and now everything works fine.
Hope this will solve a lot of problems.
