IPod classic, windows 7 and Itunes 9

Hi all. I have a 160gb IPod classic. I had no problems when using Itunes on Windows XP on an old PC. However, I have a new laptop with Windows 7. I downloaded the newest version of Itunes (version 9.0.2.25). Now my IPod does not show up as a device in Itunes, therefore I can not sync the IPod.
I can't tell if it a windows 7 issue, Itunes 9 issue, or both.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

This is not an issue with Itunes. It is a problem with Windows 7.
If you are have a motherboard with an N-Force chipset, you are most likely experiencing a know USB 2 Bug in Windows 7. This issue causes the USB Port to lockup when transferring data to USB2 Devices on some Motherboards. It mostly affects n-force motherboards but has also been reported on other chipsets as well.
Microsoft are aware of the issue and are working on a hotfix. For further information and a temporary workaround head to the following thread on Microsoft Technet:

I found some info in other threads and read that some people had re-downloaded, re-installed and were now working OK. Unfortunately some others went through that pain and still had the issue.
I found a reference to deleting the file 'iTunes Library.itl' and copying back the previous version of that file.
I tried this and when I fired up iTunes I noticed there was a window pop up saying iTunes was updating the database to version 11. I then re-imported the CD and now the songs are there in iTunes, the artwork is there and song titles etc. The songs play and everything appears normal again.
It would appear that my issue was the database was not correctly upgraded correctly durting the original upgrade, this theory is to some extent supported by the fact some people have had success re-installing version 11. This also suggests the upgrade process may be a little flaky.

When I tried to sync my iPod Touch with my new computer none of the photographs were synced. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. When I did it the first time the photographs were all muddled up in their albums. When I tried to sync again the photographs were all removed. On the third try I received an error message something like 'Unable to sync photographs program cannot be found.' Can anyone help. (It may be to do with Windows 7 and Libraries??)

Unable to access ipod in windows 7 and itunes.

My ipod has been sitting in a charging dock for a few months now. Yesterday
i removed it from the doc to add some new music. When I tried to attach the ipod to my computer through the USB cable I noticed the ipod was not recognised in itunes or in Computer.
I have tried about every solution in visited forum and even contacted Apple. I have noticed that the ipod will charge while it is in the charger or charging from the computer. the ipod is not recognised when attached to the computer, but will play back music and charge as per normal.
Apple suggest it needs servicing for a charge of $170 - should I just try another cable??
PS - all the USB ports on all my computers have been tested and are all functioning properly. All help will be gratefully excepted.

Help Please..Until recently I have owed 2 iPod Classics - 2007 80gb and 2009 160gb (which has since been returned). How do I transfer the library from the 160 to the 80gb in iTunes using Windows Vista (ie merge the 2 libraries)? Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but not actually sure how to sync a second iPod with the library of the first, as I thought it would not recognise a new iPod for copyright reasons.
Also, the files are in a location on the pc but I had to do lots of formatting amendments in iTunes as most of the stuff was on mp3 files and the formatting was all over the place. I did not want to loose any of the work by simply asking the new iPod to look at the original file and would rather copy en masse from one device to another.

Windows 7 and iTunes doens't recognise iPod Classic 80g after wipe clean hard drive and format fat32.

My iPod Classic 80gb every now-and-then goes funny, and eventually iTunes doesn't recognise it. In the past I could put it on disk mode, and do a reset, but some times I would have to format (FAT32), uninstall and reinstall iTunes, so it would work. Now it happened again, this time wiped clean the hard drive and formatted. However windows 7 and iTunes still doesn't recognise it. Tried many tips online but nothing works. All software I have used don't see the hard drive, so can't format it again.
I can get it on disk mode but even then windows and iTunes don't recognise it. When connecting to laptop my machine goes boiling hot. Left it connected with iTunes on for few hours but still no luck.
Any suggestions?

Following your threat I realized it was time to have my hard drive changed. My iPod classic has a Samsung Model: HS081HA, 80gb/3600 rpm (real hard to get it open and check out!!!).
My question is if I DO HAVE to buy exactly the same hard drive, or I could get away with another manufacturer and model, such as Toshiba (80 GB MK8009GAH FOR iPod Video 5th 5.5th iPod Classic 6.5th 7th Gen Hard Drive - Ebay listing)?
I ask you that as these Toshiba hard drives are considerably cheaper.
Help much appreciated.

It should still be compatible. Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port using a different cable to see if that helps? Perhaps, try it another computer as well to see if it's recognized there.
Otherwise, start by checking to see if it's even recognized in Device Manager. See this article for details.

The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...

Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?

If your iPod classic is formatted for Windows, and you want to sync it with your Mac, try to force the iPod into Disk Mode and then restore it using your Mac.

If the media is in the library then yes it is that simple. Connect the device, load it up with your media. The problem is when you try to connect a full device to a new empty library on a new computer when iTunes will offer to replace the content on the device with that in the local library, i.e. nothing! (For anyone in that position see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device).
You should be able to add your devices at https://supportprofile.apple.com/ though I'm not sure what happens if the second hand iPod was previously registered.

You won't believe this but a friend of mine (who happens to be an Apple Genius) told me to put a towel or cloth on a sturdy countertop (I know this may sound weird) but hold the selct button (in the center) and menu part of the wheel at the same time until an Apple logo comes up on the screen and then quickly turn the ipod on it's side and wack it on the counter where the towel is so as not to damage anything cosmetically. It seems the clicking is the hard drive reader is stuck and this dislodges it. Mine works now (no clicking) and all seems to be well again. Who knew?

Why does music differ in quality between devices,do ipod classic/iphone/macbook and nano have different power output ratings

Why does my music sound so differant on seperate devices ?.
same song differs in quality between ipod classic , nano , macbook and ipad.
do the devices have power output ratings if so is one more powerful than the other ?.
same song , same headphones all downloaded from the same source

Doesn't anybody have any ideas why diagnostics say "no universal serial bus controller found" and yet founds connected device information just fine?
IPod and iPhone appears in itunes and device manager with no problem, but syncing stops with error everytime.
Do you think that this would be an issue with: ITunes, Windows 8 or Asus Maximus V Formula motherboard?
Am I right, that diagnostics should find universal serial bus controller even though there was nothing attach to it?
Am I alone with this problem?
