Ipod Classic won't recharge or reset

Have an older iPod that was not used for awhile - plugged it in yesterday no problems - it showed in iTunes and on the desktop - it recharged overnight without issue. It was used today and when i went to re-charge it nothing happened. iPod does not recharge, cannot be reset and does not mount on the computer

Does it charge or function when you plug it in the wall?

  • When using USB input iPod classic won't read in new car

Just bought a new car with a factory iPod ready stereo system. When using the USB input iPod Classic won't read but son's iPod touch does. Anyway I can fix this? I know my Classic works fine as I was using it in my other car and it works in my wife's car. Is the car just too new therefore making my Classic incompatible and soon to be obsolete?

the best option is to contact the car manufacturer or look at the manual to make sure it supports your ipod verision. if it is a custom radio then look then contact the manufacturer or look at the manual for same thing. you can try a reset with http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.

  • Ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • IPod Classic won't connect - need to restore. What do I do?

I installed the latest iTunes onto my laptop (Windows 8), and now my iPod Classic won't connect to my laptop or iTunes. It's also telling me I need to connect to iTunes to restore it. I can't connect it to iTunes.
When I plug in the USB cord, It starts the iPod in Disk Mode -  still no connection. What do I do?!

    Hi DanielleGuise!
It sounds like your iTunes installation is not recognizing that your iPod is plugged in, so you will need to address that issue before you can restore the iPod. Here is an article that will help you do this:

my ipod classic will not recharge or restore

    So you did evething here:
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • Ipod classic won't update

the past few times I've connected my ipod to to itunes, it doesn't update. there's also no "update ipod" option under any menus. ***? anyone know why?

I have a different issue but my ipod classic won't update either, figure I'd post in the same topic.
I can download the software but once it extracts, an error message pops up saying my ipod can't be updated and a code (1462) is at the end of the message.
I have 1.1 and no previous issues with updating or with the ipod. I've tried rebooting it and no difference.
Any ideas why or what to do?
    Thanks in advance.

160gb ipod classic won't sync since update to 11.2.2, system wants to wipeout all current info on device

same has happened to me,  on and off,   for the last 6 months.   Its an issue with the Mavericks system and ipod classics.    works great for a while -  then one day for no reason - erases the entire iPod.   some days the copmputer will not recognize the iPod and you have to start over.  Apple will tell you that "you" may have a disc problem in the device.  that is all the help I have received.

  • My 160MB iPod Classic won't sync from iTunes.  This is a recent problem.  The error message is "The iPod cannot be synched.  An unknown error occurred (-39)." The end result is that music will sync but photos will not.  Current software on Mac and iPod.

My iPod classic won't synch from iTunes.  This is a recent problem.  The error message reads "The iPod cannot be synched.  An unknown error occurred (-39)." The end result is that the music will sync but photos will not sync.  I am running current versions of software on the iPod and the iMac / iTunes.  HELP! J

First try to resolve #2 by:
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
    - Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.

  • IPod Classic won't sync to PC

My iPod Classic won't sync with iTunes on  my PC. An error message is received stating that there is not enough memory available to sync, but I have 101 GB free on the iPod. I'm using iTunes Version 10.6.3.25 on a PC with the Vista operating system. The iPod operating system is 2.0.1 PC.

It sounds like your PC may be too low on memory (RAM) or Hard Drive in for the iPod to sync properly with iTunes.  Try rebooting your PC to see if that helps.  Then run only iTunes and try to resync your iPod.

  • Ipod classic won't connect with PC unless reset

Everytime I conect my Ipod to my windows 7 pc it does not appear in the iTunes list as connected devices, the iPod screen also does not recognise the PC when connected via USB.  Reset the Ipod and it wil then connect as normal.   A reset needs to be done everytime I want to sync.

A typical case of Antivirus intervention.
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with Ipod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
Good Luck! and have a Nice Day!

  • IPod Classic Won't Play Songs, but Resetting Worked??

I have a brand new iPod Classic that I just bought on Saturday 10/26/2013.
I got it all set up on Sunday 10/27, and started listening to it at the office yesterday, Monday 10/28.
I started using it at the office again today, 10/29, and after a few songs, I noticed that the progress indicator was pegged at the end of the song, with 0:00 remaining, but the song continued to play. I was curious about that, so pressed << to go back to the start of the song. The song reset to the begining, but would NOT play.  I tried power cycling, and tried playing other songs, all with the same result - the song would show up in the screen, but would not play.
I saw the instructions on the Apple support page suggesting resetting the device, and sure enough, the iPod now plays again.
Here are my questions: This seems to have been a known problem for at least a few years, judging from the time/date stamps on the earlier discussions I've seen on this forum.
How is it that this problem has never been fixed?
How is it that you release a product and have instructions for the user to just try resetting the devce when it fails to work? If I released a product like that, I would probably be fired.
Are there any plans to provide a software update that resolves this issue?

I had the exact same problem happen with my iPod Classic. It was playing along just fine - and then went silent. When I checked, it was skipping from one song to the next. Now I can't get it to play anything.
Not sure what AAC version is, but if it was working fine for the last two years, I don't believe that changing the format would make a difference. It must be something else.
