i resetted my ipod the other day i just got it like 3 days ago, i slid hold to on and off then held menu and select button, while i was doing that i was waiting for the aple sign but all it did was turn off, now it wont even turn on. I tried connecting it to a wall outlet and even my laptop, but still no cake, does anyone have a solution to this?

If you went through Apple you do get one free phone call to an Apple tech.
Try browsing here for info that might help:

You may have to return it. Not unhead of that an iPod may be defective!

  • TS1538 iPod touch won't turn on after resetting

I started by resetting my iPod touch 3rd generation, and now it won't turn on at all. I've let it charge and have tried literally everything I can find on the internet,, but nothing has got it to turn back on. Someone PLEASE help me...

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect.

7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect. I loaded some new music, synced and ejected correctly. screen went black on unplug. Waited, did the button trick, didn't work. plugged it back in & it is recognized immediately. restored, resynced & ejected again. same thing-black screen w/ no response. Charged it overnight. ejected, screen then went to language setting. OK for English, eject & back to black on unplug. Switched ports for cable, tried eject thru PC...all resulting in dead nano after unplug. I really don't want to charge into the store & take it out on the poor kid who will catch the brunt of my frustration. anyone have a suggestion?

    Hello Marie,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano was not powering on.  I found an article for the 6th generation iPod nano that has steps you can take for an issue like this (the only difference for the 7th generation iPod nano is the steps you will take for the reset. I included the steps to reset a 7th generation iPod nano below):
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
You can find the full article here:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3474
All the steps apply to the 7th generation except the steps for the reset.  To reset a 7th generation iPod nano, use these steps:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, or until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds, and then the Home screen. You may need to repeat this step.
I got these steps from this tutorial, which may also help with your iPod not appearing in iTunes:

  • Nano (4th gen) won't turn on after reseting and I need itunes support

A couple of weeks ago, my family computer crashed when we were trying to install a sercurity program. The computer company sent us a disk to bring the computer back to its original state. (This was supposed to make the computer be like it just came from the factory when we first got it) The disks didn't work and we sent it to a local computer repair center where they fix stuff like this.
So anyways, now that the computer is back to when we first got it, I'm afraid that if I downlaod itunes, sign into my account, and plug my ipod into the computer that all my songs and PURCHASED songs will disappear and I will be out more than $200.
Now it's Oct. 30th and my ipod will not come out of sleep for anything. I've tried all of the things they offer on Apple's support webpage. I plugged it into my wall adapter and it's making a funny buzzing noise.
Please help me with these 2 issues I'm having.
    Thanks so much.

My 4th Gen iPod Nano won't turn on once it is off the USB cable. If it is connected to the iMac (iTunes 10.1 (54)) it works perfectly well (synchronizes, plays music). Have tried to reset it (holding the Menu and Center buttons) and to reset it to its original settings (current SW version is 1.0.4) and it still wont work.
    Any suggestions?

  • IPod classic won't turn on and isn't recognized

Today, I started having problems with my 80gb classic and have no idea what to do with it.
I took it out of it's dock charger and plugged it into my laptop and was accessing a file off it. About a minute after I connected it, my computer said it had disconnected and I looked down to see the sad ipod face. I tried resetting it, switching it into disk mode, plugging it back into my computer and nothing would work. It's not being recognized in Finder or in iTunes and the screen won't turn on for anything. I'm out of ideas of what to do with it since this is the first major problem I've had with it.
Any suggestions on what to do would be really helpful since I have no idea what to do next with it.

I have the same problem with a 20G classic. I assume it may be a dead battery but when i use the docing station i get the apple logo and a clicking sound(HD trying to boot up) then a "folder logo with !"
Will the battery replacement allow me to charge and reset the operating sytem syncing with iTunes?

  • IPod Classic won't turn on unless plugged into wall even though battery is charged

I plugged in my old iPod Classic and charged it up for a long time. I got that little plug symbol that indicates that it's fully charged. The iPod turns on and works fine when it's plugged into the wall, but as soon as I unplug it, it won't do anything at all. Just black screen. I also tried plugging it into the computer. Nothing.
I tried re-setting by toggling the "Hold" button and then pressing Play/Pause and Menu at the same time. Nothing.
Why would it be fine when plugged into the wall but not when unplugged or plugged into the computer? Is it possible that is really is not fully charged even though it did show that little plug symbol? It had been just sitting for many months.

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • IPod Classic won't turn on

I've reset my iPod Classic because it wouldn't play music, but now it won't turn back on. The screen just keeps flashing the apple logo at me, the computer won't recognise my iPod when i plug it in, my computer is running Windows7 64bit and the correct iTunes is installed... Somebody please help me

My Classis shut down and wouldn't turn on.  I read on this site somewhere to click the hold button back and forward a couple times then hold the centre button and menu button together for  a few seconds.  I tried it and it worked. See how you go with that.

  • Brand New iPod classic won't turn on.

Minutes after getting home with my new iPod I plugged it into my computer and synced my library with it, afterwards it asked me to install an update and I let it, it told me it was going to reboot, it shut off and now it won't turn back on. I know there's some life in it as when I hold down the reset combo i hear windows indicate that I've disconnected and reconnected a USB device however nothing displays on the screen and iTunes tells me that it cannot recognize the iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an additional note now when the I connect the iPod windows lists a "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" in device manager.

  • Ipod 5g won't turn on without reset

hi everyone, i'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.
First off, when the ipod's on it works fine; i can plug it into the computer and listen to music, synch (windows recognizes it), etc. The problem starts when it 'auto-shuts off' or sleeps, or whatever. no button press will turn it back on, nor will fidgeting with the scroll wheel. if i plug it into the computer nothing happens and windows doesn't recognize the device. the only thing that will turn it back on is to reset (menu+center for 7 seconds) it, at which point the apple logo comes up, sits there for a few seconds, and then i have to select my language again (just like the very first time). after that it's fine again until the next time it 'powers down'.
I've hit the 'restore' button in itunes and it went through all the motions, deleted all the data and resynched it, but the darn thing still won't turn on without the 7second reset.
has anyone else experienced this? I've read through the forums and i've read the 'official' apple 'what-to-do-if-it-won't-turn-on' page but that doesn't seem to do anything. i've only been experiencing this for the past few days, and didn't make any changes to it prior to that, besides adding/removing some music.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • My iPod Classic won't turn on and is making loud noises?

I bought my iPod Classic in late 2009, it is out of warranty and I am really hoping I won't have to take it in.  My iPod hadn't been charged for a while so I plugged it in, I heard some strange clicking sounds that were quite loud.  Afterwards, a red circled X with the apple ipod support website would show up.  I went through the website and tried what the site said, my iPod just continues to do the same thing.  It also dosen't let me turn my iPod on to Disk Mode.  Does anyone have any helpful hints on getting my iPod to work again?

Leave it charging for at least 2 hours, till the full charge icon comes ON.
Reset the iPod -Press Menu and Center button simultaneous for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON
Refer to this Apple support article on Step 2.(RESET)
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Release the button and select your prefered language.
If the above doesn't work then do a disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2.

As the RED X meant your Hardisk is having a stroke.

  • Help! Ipod nano won't turn on after disconnecting!

Okay I've had my Ipod nano for like 3 weeks. I've used it once. It worked fine when I first got it and after my battery ran out I haven't used it for about a week. When I got it back I hooked it up to my computer and updated the stuff on it as well as let it charge. After is says to safely disconnect, I disconnect it but it automatically turns off and won't turn back on. I've tried resetting it and nothing works. I thought the battery was dead but I've left it plugged in (not only USB on my computer but also tried an outlet) and it never completely charged. I've even left it plugged in overnight (well over the 4 hours it's supposed to charge). I have no idea what to do (It also took like at least a full day to completely charge the first time I've had it)

Okay my iPod wouldn't turn on . (Guess I will be throwing out the box to ship my ipod for warranty replacement)
at like 11pm dec 1 2008, the ipod was dead, pressing the power button did nothing.
I thought it was a goner... I even ordered a warranty replacement..
ipod wouldnt turn on . left it for 24 hours. when I got home from school the next day
it tried to sync but my playlist did not exist..it even showed the folder in windows
After trying various USB ports and seeing an Apple Icon, and "connect to power low battery"
I even requested a warranty replacement... and apparently you throw out the box they send to cancel. I wish I could be courteous and let them know
    So in short
    PROBLEM;
==IPOD Won't Power on when you press the power button==
(FIRST OF ALL , I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT TRY TO OPEN THE IPOD UP,
you will probably scratch or damage the beautiful iPod .. when it will be perfectly fine 24 hours later...)
    Try:
RESET, and plug in to itunes and restore..
    SOLUTION:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/consumerelectronics/ipodfaq/ipod-troubleshooting-wont-turn-on-appear-hung-sad.html
    Official Apple Documentation:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1383?viewlocale=en_US
I guess my actual story will make you believe that THIS SOLUTION actually works.
    "Let the iPod battery drain
In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:
    1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
    2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.
I even tried the iPod on 2 computers and it was sort of detecting the serial # in Windows
    but mostly freezing up windows.
    4. " Let iPod's battery drain"
Was the solution for my iPod 3rd generation.
So now that the problem was fixed, I guess iPod is so terrible after all
Just don't drop your iPod get it a nice case
it took from 9pm December 2,2008 to about Dcember 2,2008 6:45pm
roughly 20 hours.. so this morning when I left I pressed the button and it wouldn't turn on
I thought maybe the battery was knocked loose but the battery was just so low or something
To prevent this problem I guess whenever you ipod is low battery, charge it before it gets dangerously low
As sad as it is to wait like 24 hours without your iPod just to pray that the problem is the battery or something and then it will power on..
When it actually does power on you would see the apple Icon
== When it was all said and done==
I didn't really need to use "restore" option, i think itunes resynced what it needed.
And thanks to this I upgraded to Itunes 8 .. which I was too lazy to do before
    ==STILL DOESNT WORK?==
If you bought it less than a year ago... Warranty..
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Enter your Serial# and country and it will be located at the back of your iPod under where it says 8GB or whatever (at least for iPod Nano 3rd generation)
I always like posting solutions, so that someone like me can benefit from it.
It is my understanding that if you do send in your iPod they don't care about the USB cord or headphones that came with it, so you just ship the iPod itself
see here for some frequently asked questions.

I restored my ipod touch 3g (32 gb) to factory settings last night because I'm supposed to be selling it to someone today, but now, more than 12 hours later, it won't turn on! • Ipod touch won't turn on after trying to charge after the battery ran out

I was about to charge my ipod because it was below 10% but before I could it ran out. Now, when I plug it in to the computer or my Ipod wall charger, it won't come up in itunes and my wall charger says it is charging (red light) but 30 minutes later, my ipod won't turn on. I can't figure out why my ipod will not turn on and can't restore it in itunes otherwise I would have tried that. I can't reset it either since it won't even turn on. Do I just need to charge even longer? Or is it something else?

Thx alot for this thread, plus the solution. i was frekin out. i didn't do anything to the ipod for it to do what it it. have you or can any one tell me why it did this, or what could be the reasons for this to happen. i think that knowing that would also be very usefull. thx in adv.
