IPod Classic wont update OR restore

Well, I've had my iPod Classic (80 gb) for about a year now. For a few months it's been trying to update but I haven't been able to because it keeps having an error while downloading it. So I just haven't been updating it since It wont let me. The other day my iPod kept skipping songs and doing crazy stuff so I plugged it in and it said the iPod was corrupt and I needed to restore it. So I tried that and it said update and restore. I keep trying to update it but it still won't update, therefor it wont restore. And thats the only option I have. Any suggestions or help?

For a few months it's been trying to update but I haven't been able to because it keeps having an error while downloading it.
What has that error message been saying, Bre?

ipod classic wont restore or reset error code 1415,,1417,

I assume you have seen this article regarding this error message.
    iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • The songs on my Ipod Classic wont play at all although you can feel and hear the machinery working hard. The tracks are not playng at all but you can see the Ipod rewinding them all and returning to the album. And this happens to the second IPOD I have!

The songs on my Ipod Classic wont play at all although you can feel and hear the machinery working hard. The tracks are not playng at all but you can see the Ipod rewinding them all and returning to the album. And this happens to the second IPOD I just got!

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

  • My ipod classic wont turn on. telling me to go to a link

my ipod classic wont turn on. telling me to go to a link. www.apple.com/support/ipod cant find for what im looking for. can someone tell me what i can do.

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

  • My iPod classic wont connect to the computer. The light comes on but it doesn't even come up with 'connected' screen. Have tried everything on apple troubleshoot but hasn't helped. Still works in Logitech iPod player. Any suggestions please???

My iPod classic wont connect to the computer. The light comes on but it doesn't even come up with 'connected' screen on the ipod. Have tried different computers, usb cables and ports, as well as restarting computer, updating itunes, and rebooting ipod. Still works in Logitech iPod player, however it has just wiped itself of all songs so at the moment I'm stuck with a useless iPod. Any suggestions please???

If you happen to have a USB docking cable that is new (or close to being new), try using that one.  If the cause is the dock connector on the iPod becoming worn, if you try it with a cable that is not worn, it's possible that it may connect for data.
I believe the dock connector is internally part of the logic board, so it may not be economical to have a repair shop (including Apple Store Genius Bar) do the repair.  You'll need to ask for pricing.
If you are good at such things, this web site has DIY repair guides

If it's the most recent iPod classic, it appears to be quite difficult to pry open.  I have an older 4th gen (and 3rd gen) "classic" iPod, and those are fairly eash to pry open, using the plastic tools.

    Hello adifromba
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode to force a restore within iTunes to get it to show up. The steps to do that are within the first article below, I have also provided a second article for further troubleshooting if it continues to not show up.

  • My Ipod classic wont turn back on

My IPod classic wont turn back on. I dont know why.

    Try a Reset.
Turn the Hold switch on, then off again and then press-and-hold the Menu and the Select (centre) buttons together for at least ten seconds. The Apple logo shoudl apapera at soe stage and then the iPod will re-start.
Alternatively, if the iPod's battery is drained, plug it into a power source and leave it for at least thirty minutes. Only then will it show signs of life.

Is there anything i can do without having to buy a new one? Its about two years old, and a few months ago it made some clicking sound and kept restoring and now it wont stop. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it just unusable now?

    Hi denz471,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod classic is having issues waking from sleep after approximately 30 minutes. In this situation, I would recommend working through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the attached link.

  • IPod Nano wont update songs!!!

Okay, when I plug my ipod nano into the USB port and my itunes pop up, the stage where my ipod would usually update itself is replaced with a popup window that says: Songs on "iPod Nano" cannot be updated because of all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist.
Yes, I have no playlists right now, for some reason in the past I deleted them all. But this problem has erased all the songs and things I have on my ipod and since it wont update my songs I cant seem to put them back in (this includes the burned ones and ones bought from the music store). I am totally confused on what to do, someone PLEASE help!!

I am experiencing, for the first time, a VERY similar issue; except I have MANY playlists, and, up until now, I have been able to selectively manage them on my iPod (2Gb iPod, 60Gb of music). Now, all of a sudden, I get the error that is quoted above, although I have already restored iPod twice, reinstalled iTunes once, as well as selected manual sync, and they all "crap-out" about 1/3 of the way thru the synch-job. Never before have I had any similar problems with my product. Please help.

  • My Ipod Classic wont charge or turn on. Ive never had a problem with it before this.

OK so long story short, I went to listen to my ipod this morning before school and it wouldnt turn on.
I thought it might have died and didnt really think anything of it. When I was done with school i went to go turn it on again, still nothing.
Now itunes doesnt register its even plugged in. I've never had a problem with it so im really frustrated it was fine less then 24 hours ago and now it wont even turn on. Its not even that old I think its two years old maybe three.
I've tried diffrent computers and different chargers still nothing.
    PLEASE HELP!
i love my ipod and im way bummed its not working.
    thanks!

  • IPod Classic won't sync, restore or register in iTunes

I currently have my 160GB iPod classic plugged into my MacBook Air and it is giving me the "Do not disconnect" warning. If my predictions are correct I should about to be prompt with a notification via iTunes that my iPod needs to be restored. As I predicted, iTunes sends me this notification: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes" is the prompt I'm given. I click restore and of course, it gives me an error prompt (1434). Only after all of this am I able to properly disconnect my iPod from my computer but the process repeats itself anyway because the iPod wasn't successfully restored nor was I allowed to enable disc use- which may be my issue.
I've done the following suggestions as per iTunes and discussions.apple.com
    -restarted my computer
    -checked for iTunes update
-tried a different USB plug in
    -computer>devices>ipod>uninstall
I've heard that uninstalling iTunes once you've backed up your music is a good way to do it but I'm praying there is an easier and less time consuming way to deal with this issue. I've already spent three hours the first round and twelve plus the second round with this problem so I'm hoping there's an easy solution I just haven't tried. But I'll do what it takes to get my 160GB freedom back. Thanks!
Sincerely a VERY frustrated Apple customer!
