Ipod Color (60gig Photo) - Unexplaned Shutdowns

Im a sad panda. Just this weekend, my iPod is acting goofy, and its killing me. Heres the deal:
Any movement of the iPod and the screen will fade out to grey (then fade out all together) then i will get the Apple logo as it reboots. Even if the Apple logo is displayed, and i move it, it will fade, then come back up. This does NOT happen if the hold switch is turned on. I will even get the Low Battery Icon when this happens, but i know for a fact the battery is full (unless that icon is not reading correctly) It seems like it has an internal short, which makes me want to cry cause i am supposed to be leaving on a road trip soon, and this is how i carry all my music. I could just listen to it with the Hold Switch on, but once i turn it off...there it goes: fade out. Whats up, peeps? Give me some love over here!

Thanks for the advice...It has been at least 18 months. I just went and looked at it. I had the hold switch over to "hold", and it had been charging overnight. The screen said "charged" with the full battery icon. I switched it off of "hold" and boom, fade out. It was still plugged in. Im going to go have someone look at it today. Ill let yall know what happens. Stay tuned!

When I try to upload pictures to my new 60gb iPOD color, and maybe I'm not doing it right, but I have iTunes open, then I go to iTunes, then Preferences, then Photo, then I'll tell it to "Synchronize photos from iPhoto and select the roll I want to upload, then with my iPOD plugged in, I'll get a message saying, "Preferences were not saved for the iPOD(my ipod name)because it could not be found".
What am I doing wrong?

Sync multiple lobraries with iPod color 60GB

I posted this issue in the iPod forum, but received no advice. Hopefully someone here can help:
I have over 25,000 photos and use several iPhoto libraries to manage and organize them. One library lives on my Powerbook 17" hard drive and the others are on external FW800 drives.
Because I take so many photos away from home, I usually import photos to my Powerbook library temporarily, then transfer them to one of the other libraries I have on the external HDs in my studio and delete them from the PB.
One library consists only of photos I have taken for a client, another contains family photos, a third one is abstract and artistic photos, a fourth is all antique cars, a fifth all nudes, etc...
I would like to be able to include some photo albums from each library on my 60G iPod Color. Is there a way to do this without combining all of my photos into the same library?
I guess what I am asking is: is it possible to get photos from multiple libraries on the same iPod at the same time? if so, how?
If not, is there a way for me to create an iPhoto library that consists of photo aliases (I don't want to import duplicates of the photos to include on the iPod) and then use that library to sync with the iPod?

HI Rich, an ipod can only be associated with one iPhoto Library. You can however have it sync photos from a folder on your hard drive. this would entail sharing 'exporting images from each of your libraries and putting them all in a folder on one computer. Then set up the iPod preferences in iTunes to use this folder for the photos.

IPOD Color- Corrupted- restored- black/white menu+not working (WinXP)

I got an iPOD Color Display last year, few days ago, it started going nuts. Windows were not recognizing etc.
After the restart-reboot-restore it has a Black/White GUI and still windows can not recognize it. Windows say that it is a generic USB hard drivem iTunes say that it needs to be restored (and after every restoration, it needs to be restored again, and it is not working anymore, even if it is alive).
iPOD's screen shows the exclamation mark over an envelope.

6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked

You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"

Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. I'm not too sure about the camera connecter, read up about it and see what it says. The one I've been looking into is a belkin or something, and you take out your digital camera's chip, then place it in a special slot made for it, connect it to your iPod photo in the same place you would your usb cable, and they'll download straight to your iPod.

Sync iPod color after computer crash and loss of music

How do I sync my older iPod color now with a new windows vista computer and not lose the music already on the iPod? the older hard disc crashed and was not recoverable so all of the downloaded music over 2000 songs were lost but are still on the iPod. How can I connect it to the newer computer without losing all of the music that is now on it. I have new music on the newer computer I would like to add but have been afraid to connect it in fear of losing all of my music.

There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Is my iPod Color (60GB) dead?

Hi all,
I don't remember how it began but some day all songs on my iPod seemed to be gone. However, they still were there when I looked on it on the Unix command line (the folders named "Fxx" had my music files with cryptic names).
Obviously the database was corrupt. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to rebuild it, even the tool "TuneTech for iPod" couldn't help.
So I finally agreed on completely resetting it (from within iTunes 7.1) and losing all my songs, ratings, playlists etc.
But things even get worse. Now when I connect the iPod (via FireWire or USB) to my PowerMac G5 (10.4.9) or MacBook Pro (10.4.8) I have to wait almost 10 minutes until the iPod gets mounted. During this time iTunes doesn't react to user interaction.
When the iPod finally appears I can drag-n-drop songs onto it. But even a single song can last several minutes to be copied to the iPod. Sometimes, when I drag-n-drop about 100 files onto it, iTunes thinks firt for app. 5 minutes before the copy process starts.
The copy process itself sometimes hangs for another 5 minutes or so until it eventually finishes.
But the most awkward thing is: when I get a chance to unmount the iPod (eject button) -- which lasts for another 5 to 10 minutes -- most of the time the song list on the iPod is EMPTY!
The About screen says that there are 0 songs on the iPod BUT there are (e.g.) 50.4 GB of 55.9 GB (don't know the exact figures now) available.
So there ARE files on the iPod but the database seems to be corrupt again. And I have NO idea what to do about this.
Anybody out there who can help?

No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

Ipod touch 3.1.3 shutdown

Why did my ipod touch 3.1.3 shutdown & will not come back on, though it's been on charger for days.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When exporting photo to my pictures folder it shows up as a soft color & no photo..Please help

When exporting my edited pictures to a folder in m Pictures it goes as a blank soft color but no photo. It looks like a tiny dot and when you open it, it is a soft color.. Please help!

I am trying to send as attachement. I have tried to screen shot but must not have a clue how to! Is there a number someone can walk me through this.. or if you could tell me how to screen shot it. I am trying the print screen but not working. I have never done on a computer before. My system is Dell Pentium Dual Core [email protected] 4.00GB 64 Bit Windows Vista. I tried to download a trial of LR4 so I could get some work done until prob fixed but it tells me my system not compatible. I am thinking of creative cloud but will this work with my system. I use LR for 100% of my editing but have been doing other things (newborns) where I feel I need CS6. If you could let me know what I need to do to run the new LR and CS6 that would be great. (Really need a computer class)! Thanks

Using iPod to transfer photos

I'm using iPod to transfer photos from one Mac to another. They were uploaded from iPhoto 4.03 following directions, and downloaded to the second computer with iPhoto '08 (7.1.5) using iPod as an external drive. However only 23 photos out of hundreds downloaded. I get the message, "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." These files are listed:
/Volumes/name/Photos/Thumbs
/Volumes/name/Photos/Photo Database
I'm assuming it's the database file that's the problem, but why would some photos download and not the rest? Opening the Photos folder in the iPod icon, there are only two items. The Photo Database is shown as a Unix file. There are only six thumbs in that folder, and they are all Unix as well.
I posted this in iPod discussion, but hoped an iPhoto expert might also help me.

What's the HD feature? I don't have the iPod synced to iPhoto in the second computer; I have it on Manually manage music and videos.
There's a possibility that it did sync in the first computer before I checked that option, but no photos uploaded until I did it manually, so it doesn't seem so. Also, the icon appeared on the desktop and that doesn't happen if it's synced, does it?
It definitely did not sync in the second one as it was already checked when I connected it.
And I keep going back to, why did some photos import and not the rest?

I stumbled upon "my photo stream" on my iPod and I found a lot of pictures not from my iPod and few from my iPod in the photo stream. I didn't know most of the people in the photos and some of the pictures were very crude. I'm just wondering how my iPod downloaded a bunch of photos that's were not mine onto my iPod and mixed them in with some of my photos.

Try download iPod Disk or senuti. These are very helpful programs that allow you to recover files from your iPod. If you really don't want your iPod to sync, open Activity Monitor, (Located in the applications folder in the utilities folder or spotlight search) and find iTunes helper. Click force quit, then open up accounts in system preferences, and click the - button for iTunes helper.

When you delete photos that are on your nano from your computer with your nano connected or connect it after deleting photos, the photos will be automatically removed from the iPod, since the photos are no longer in the folder that they were in the last time the iPod synced with the computer.
The problem with adding new photos sounds like it it caused by you selecting a new folder of photos to sync from each time you connect. For the old photos to stay on the Nano, you must use the same folder to sync new ones each time.
Just a note, I find it easiest to create a folder in "My Pictures" called something like "iPod Photo's". I then copy all the photos that I want on my iPod into this folder, and set the iPod up to sync from this folder. Photos can be deleted by simply removing the photo from this new folder, while it can still be on your computer main photo folder.
