IPod connected & now constant Do not disconnect on Display

I recently connected my iPod with Color Display to my Mac, iTunes did not immediately boot up nor did the iPod icon appear on the desktop. I manually started iTunes and ITunes began its synching routine and the "Do not Disconnect" message appeared on the iPod Display. When iTunes said the Sync was complete, the Do not disconnect message never reverted to the Main Menu. I ejected the iPod and the Do Not Disconnect message is still on the Display. I can not turn my iPod off, Disconnecting and reconnecting my iPod to the computer does not change the display status. I would just like to get it back to normal working status.
Can anyone offer recommendations as to what I can do?

iPod ran ow on battery power. iPod automatically shut down. When plugged in, iTunes performed a Synchronization and iPod started to re-vharge its battery

  • Ipod won't sync - do not disconnect error

I tried to load some new songs onto my nano (just before I went on holiday) and they wouldn't appear so I naturally went through the 5Rs. Net result, not only will songs still not appear on the nano, I now have no songs at all on it!
Here's what currently happens. I connect the ipod to the laptop. itunes boots up and treats the ipod as "new" i.e.: asks to confirm the name etc. It then does the whole sync thing, taking ages, before confirming that sync has completed ok. Meanwhile the ipod is showing the "do not disconnect" screen. Here's where the trouble starts. The ipod remains on this screen - even though itunes says that the sync is complete. By clicking on the disconnect button from within itunes, itunes seems to lock for a long while until (eventually) the ipod is released and disappears from within itunes.
So, what I can determine is that the ipod and itunes can "talk" to each other but somewhere along the line they're getting their wires crossed. Seems to be some form of corruption, but despite reading these forums and the Apple "help" pages, I've not been able to resolve it.
    Any ideas?

The answer was given to me by Kylene. It was due to a conflict in drive naming by Windows. See the attached:

  • IPod continues to say "Do Not Disconnect"

No matter how long I leave my iPod connected to my computer to synch and charge, there is always a "Do Not Disconnect" message displayed on the screen. This is so even though (a) the battery icon shows a full charge (if I read it correctly; it has been charging for the past 18 hours, at least); and (b) iTunes says the synch is complete. What am I supposed to do? Leave it there forever? Ignore the message and yank it out anyway? I saw a post somewhere recommending to "Deselect Enable Disc Use" in options but I have found no such option.

If you look at the pictures on both the linked pages (that planb77 mentioned) you will see the Summary tab +in the picture.+ Click on the iPod that is listed under Devices and the Summary screen is displayed.
BTW, although it was partly explained in the linked articles, you should always use the "eject" or "safely disconnect drive" buttons of any device that can be written to. In other words, memory keys, iPods, mp3 players etc. Using that button allows the computer to check that the device is not in use. If it is - and you simply pull the device out, any file that has not yet been fully saved will be corrupted.
Glad that both myself and planb77 were able to help.

  • Can't load new songs, constant "do not disconnect" message

I got a 5th gen iPod for my old mac mini seeing as how the 6th wasn't compatible. When I first hooked it up to charge, it downloaded every song on my iTune. Later, when I tried to add some more songs, the iPod kept flashing the "do not disconnect" message. Also, in iTunes, it keeps showing me the "Welcome to Your New iPod" display. I went through and registered it and signed up for the iTunes store and it keeps showing up. Whenever I try clicking the "register later" or "never register" buttons, nothing happens and it goes right back to the screen. Is there something I'm missing?

i wanted to follow up. i was getting ready to sell my ipod on ebay, so i hooked it up to my roommate's computer, which i worked on just fine, and erased all the songs on it. these were the songs it automatically uploaded from my itunes when i first plugged it in. i then decided to give it one last try on my computer, i was shocked and amazed to find that it works perfectly fine now. not sure what the problem was but wanted to let everyone know in case someone else had the same problem.

  • Ihave computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync?

I have my computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync.?  I have done the previous action before but now I have a new ipod because my other ipod was stolen.

Actually this happened to me today and although it would not let me play the file it allowed me to use that same file i had exported from iphotos but could not play and then it allowed me to open it in imovie (you can go to import and then get it from the desktop or wherever) although I made a couple of changes to it the main thing is once you drag it into the space to begin a new project you can then right click and select open in finder and that file actually plays......if its cause i made some changes to it i.e trimmed it slightly then its worth doing so.

  • Had to reset iPod.  Now it will not allow me to get my WIFI

I had to restore my iPod and now it will not let allow my WIFI to update the iPod.  I do not know if it is because of other WIFI systems in my area. Someone uses NETGEAR, another uses ATT904.  When they are in use I cannot use my iPod.  I have called my cable company that I bundle with they can't seem to help me and I have called Apple and they have not answers for me.  I do not know what to do.  Any know what I am talking about?

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • IPod nano 6th generation: "Do not disconnect" on white screen w/flashing icon; previously "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting" on dark screen w/USB icon; no content on iPod

Trouble began with "Reconnect to iTunes to Restore" message after I inadvertantly held down the Wake/Sleep button long enough to turn the iPod off before pausing the podcast in progress.
My subseqent actions to try to remedy:
    -Restored the iPod
-while Restoring, the rotating circular arrows and "Synchronizing-Do Not Disconnect" screen appeared followed by "Connected-Eject Before Disconnecting"
-when I ejected the iPod and disconnected it, the normal icons showed but there was no content
-Reinstalled the latest iTunes 11.0.3 which I had downloaded previously a few days before my problems began
-Restored iPod again:  still said "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting"
-Manually put the iPod into Disk Mode (said to be helpful in troubleshooting):  "Do Not Disconnect" on white screen with flashing icon (circle with diagonal line)
    -Ejected and disconnected the iPod.
    -Reconnected the iPod:  same message

You need to either the let the iPod finishing syncing with iTunes, or figure out what application is still using it in the back ground that prevents you from being able to properly eject the device.  Just unplugging it from the computer is almost always going to cause issues when it's still in use by iTunes or another application.
So let's connect the device to iTunes one more time and let it finish restoring.  Then try syncing a bit of content over to it and wait for it to finish the sync process.  Then try to properly eject it from iTunes this time.

  • Connecting iPod to computer & getting "Do Not Disconnect" (not recognized)

I plug my iPod (40 gig, click wheel) into my computer and the screen goes to "Do Not Disconnect" and I can hear the hard drive turning. The problem is that it never pops up in iTunes and have tried to restore and since it keeps churning away on "Do Not Disconnect" it isn't recognizing the iPod.
I've read the forums and FAQs and I've seen similar issues but has anyone had this specific problem?
The iPod is trying to connect but never gets there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had this problem too and still do to this day - my computer won't recognize that the ipod is attached and basically just freezes up. Last time I loaded music from itunes, I found a very helpful post on this discussion board that told me how to change my USB speed from 2.0 to 1.1. After doing this, my computer recognized the ipod and I was able to load songs (of course it took forever but that is OK). However, I can no longer find the posting. Does anyone out there know how to do this?

  • My iPod classic is saying "do not disconnect" but neither my MacBook Pro or iTunes is recognizing that it is plugged in.  What can I do?

About 2 weeks ago my iPod told me that something (I forget what now) was corrupt and my iPod had to be restored to factory settings, so I did that.  Before I had a chance to resync my iPod, my harddrive in my MacBook Pro crashed and had to be replaced.  Now when I try connecting my iPod classic, my iPod says "do not disconnect" but neither my laptop or iTunes is recognizing that my iPod is plugged in.  I have tried using another cord, restarting my iPod, restarting my laptop, iTunes is up to date...what else is there that I can do to get my iPod to connect to my laptop?
    Thanks in advance!

Try a system reset, hold down the off button until it turns of and then back on again, this might not work though if it is properly stuck. If all else fails go to Apple

  • IPod nano stuck in "Do not disconnect"

My wife's new nano was working perfectly in all operations.
Now, when we plug it into the computers (more details to follow), 1) the computers don't recognize the iPd, and 2) the iPod says "Do not disconnect" (i.e., the iPod /does/ know it's plugged in to a computer.
    DETAILS:
    * we've tried this on both USB ports on each of two PowerBook G4s, each running OS X 10.4.3. The iPod software is up to date on both computers.
    * when I reset the iPod (following the instructions in the KB), it works fine when /not/ connected to the Macs
    * the iPod /does/ accept charge from the computers when connected
    * I have /not/ tried FireWire, nor have I tried replacing the USB cable. (Mostly because it seems to work OK - iPod recognizes it's connected, and accepts charge)
    Anyone?

I think this may be connected to the ongoing problem that the nano is not officially supported by OS X 10.2.8. I have that configuration, and while I seem to be able to download to the nano and play everything OK, it does get stuck in "Do not disconnect." I just get brave and eject the iPod while it's still showing that message, and everything seems fine.
I haven't seen the option for downloading photos, so maybe that does require 10.3.
I'm running a 4 1/2 year old iBook which does have USB 2.0, and the download speed seems fine.
