\\\\\\\ Ipod connection freezes computer ///////

I have a 30gig. ipod video. Whenever I connect it to my computer using the USB cord my whole computer freezes including the mouse and keybord not working at all. I can connect it to any other computer and the computer works fine, but my itunes songs and videos are on my computer. I have tried a lot of solutions told by other people but nothing has worked. I am trying to get it to work by 2 days from now. If you know what could be wrong with this please tell me how to fix it. thank you

My computer is not too old either. I have been using it with my computer for about 9 months now.

  • Nothing happening when iPod connected to computer (unable to charge iPod)

    Hi,
Last week my 1st generation iPod nano was working fine, I had charged it to full battery and used it until the battery went flat.
Now when I connect the iPod to the computer, nothing happens. Nothing appears on the iPod screen and iTunes is unable to detect the iPod.
Since the battery is now flat, I can't even turn the iPod on. I have tried holding down the centre button and the menu button for 10 secs but nothing happens.
When I use the same cable on a different 1st generation iPod Nano, it charges and connects fine.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and what I can do to fix it?

I have the same exact problem. I have an older iPod which connects perfectly, but my 1gb Nano isn't recognized. I just want to change the songs on my Nano.

  • Ipod connection to computer

I have a new ipod. When I connect the ipod to my computer the computer does not register its presence through itunes. What might remedy this problem.

Try putting the ipod into *[Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363]* first.
If this doesn't work, try this method to make your ipod show in windows explorer so that you can try changing the drive letter, or updating the usb drivers:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Select Edit-Preferences
    3. Leave the preferences window open and minimize itunes.
    4. Connect your ipod
    5. Proceed with the troubleshooting on the following pages

i connected my ipod to my computer , it registered and showed it onscreen, but i could not erase the audiobooks that i had put on it, i have put more books on it and they show as loaded but i cnnot access them, can anyone tell me why?

The only way to remove media is to unsync the media. There is no erase except that there is a restore button that erase the entire iPod.

  • Ipod  connected to computer

willl it run down my battery or hurt the life of the battery if i play songs on my ipod through my computer? connecting the ipod and when it shows up in itunes playing the songs that way.

I don't think it will hurt the battery life or your iPod nor will it run down the battery (as it is being charged at the same time). I don't see the point, though, in playing the ipod through the computer when the music is already there.

  • Had 1800 songs on ipod, connected to computer and all songs are deleted??

I had 1800 songs on my ipod, a friend downloaded them onto it for me. I was installing the itunes disc and plugged the ipod into the computer at the same time and now can not find the songs anywhere... Where did they go, I thought if they weren't on the ipod anymore that they've got to be on my computer somewhere, but I can not find any of them. If anyone knows what I've done please help...

You are aware that this is completely illegal,
    right?
Actually, copying music from your friends really falls under Fair Use.
If you apply the four fair use tests:
    1. the purpose and character of the use is not for profit (for)
    2. the work is published, but creative (against)
    3. the amount is probably only certain songs off the album (for)
    4. the effect on the market is small (person to person copying is considered to be a minimal effect on the marketplace, whereas sharing with the entire internet is not) (for)
So really, copying your friends music really passes most of the fair use tests. It might be technically illegal, but it's not a case where anybody could actually sue you and win.
Copyright infringement is allowed in certain cases.

  • Ipod mini freezes computer

After several tries to restore ipod I think I was succesfull, but, now in the about menu says formatted for windows, serial number, capacity 3.8, available 104 mb, songs 0, contacts 0, etc... What is in there if I don't have any songs, nothing, nada and still it only has 100mb available.
Off I went to computer, appear ipod on my computer window, tried to open and the computer froze big time.

  • ITunes Won't Open Without iPod Connected To Computer

Up until a day or so ago, I was able to open iTunes without the iPod attached. Now when I try to do so, it says the iTunes folder cannot be found or created and that the default location is in the "My Music" folder. When I then attach the iPod to the computer, everything works great. With the iPod attached and iTunes open, I changed the iTune preferences to reflect my actual music folder location (F:\My Music), but I still cannot get it to open without the iPod attached.

    good lord.
okay, it's plausible that you've got two different problems going on at once here.
underlying it might be a version of a drive letter confusion:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
(see also the link to the MS KB doc)
... which is working so that either your My Music folder has either accidentally made its way on to the ipod, or that it's only being seen when the ipod is plugged in.
when it's not being seen, you get the problem described in this document:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes
... is there any particular reason why you have to have your "My Music" folder on your F drive, rather than your C drive?
    love, b

  • IPod (4G) freezes Computer

    Hi,
my iPod has some problems skipping songs, clicking hard disk, etc.
I ran diagnostics: everything ok. When I connect it to a pc (I've 1 desktop, 2 Laptops, all XP pro) at every pc, with every usb port. It freezes the computer, so I can't do any of the suggested repairing advices.
I've read a lot about the problem (and it often occurs), but their seems to be no solution. Any idea how to go on ?
    Regards,
    Christian

With Restrictions you can prevent suers for doing some task like purchasing items. See:
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions
If you forgot your Restrictions passcode or do no know it if one somehow got assigned, then:
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - If you are up to it see:
How to reset forgotten Restrictions...: Apple Support Communities
How to reset forgotten Restrictions...: Apple Support Communities
If you just restore from a backup that has the passcode the passcode is also restored.

  • IPod mini freezes computer and won't restore, etc.

I have an ipod mini, purchased nearly 2 years ago and this is the first time it's given me trouble. Worked fine on Friday and then started givin me the folder and exclamation point icon everytime I tried to turn it on, reset it, restore, etc. Tried following the "5 Trys" to no avail. Tried banging it 4 or 5 times against the table. Don't know what else to do. Is it worth sending it back to Apple to see if they can fix it?
One thing that I don't see anywhere on the Apple Support site - what do I do when plugging the iPod into causes the computer to lock up? I've tried this on two computers, both of which are updated with the latest version of iTunes. Tried a disk restore and got as far as the checkmark on the screen, but again the computer freezes up when I get to the part where I plug it in and try to update it through iTunes.
    Please help!
    Dell   Windows XP

Update: Tried connecting the iPod to a coworker's Mac this morning and it tried going through the restore process, but ended up getting this error message:
The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1429).
I tried searching for this error number on the ipod support site but it didn't come up with anything. Is my ipod toast?!

  • Ipod connects to computer but Itunes doesn't recognize it.

Whenever I plug in my ipod the window comes up asking what I want to do with my music. When I click Itunes it says:
IPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I have reported the error and have made sure my Itunes is up to date and everything this has been going on for about a few weeks.
Help please Im gettin very frustrated!

Whenever I plug in my ipod the window comes up asking what I want to do with my music. When I click Itunes it says: IPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Did this start happening after you updated to Service Pack 3?
If so, open your Device Manager. (Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager".) Is your Device Manager currently completely blank?
When Device Manager is blank after an SP3 install, getting Device Manager displaying correctly again should also fix the "iPod Service Module" crash.
For a manual method of fixing the SP3 problem, see the following Microsoft document:
Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
For an automated tool for fixing the problem, see the following Symantec document:
Problems occur after installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 with a Norton 2008 product installed

  • IPod classic freezing computer after restore

My iPod had to be reformatted from mac to windows. I went to the iPod front page and clicked restore and it went through the restore process fine. When it was finished my iTunes locked up so i reset my computer. When I turned it back on it started fine then froze iTunes again when I plug the thing in. I went to my computer and it wasn't able to actually get into the iPod, it was showing up as drive "I" already and I have no other peripherals attached. I reset my computer again, updated iTunes and plugged in my other iPod. This one worked fine, transfered songs correctly and what not. Tried the other one and it's still freezing. When i start plug it in after disabling iTunes from starting when I plug it in I'm able to browse it through my computer. I formatted it and then it showed up in iTunes again. When i restored it again it is back to doing the same thing, even on another computer with a completely fresh install of iTunes.

  • "Connect to Computer. Use iTunes to Restore" but can't 'see' it in iTunes

I got the error message on my iPod -- "Connect to Computer. Use iTunes to Restore iPod." Problem is, when I try to connect to my computer, it asks if I want to restore it with iTunes, I say yes, but iTunes doesn't 'see' the iPod, so I can't restore.
The iPod just sits with "Do not disconnect" on it and the battery icon moving. I'm dead in the water.
    Any ideas?

You might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

If that works, then you should be able to attempt a restore.

  • Itunes freezes when ipod is connected to computer

Whenever I try to connect my ipod to my laptop my itunes will freeze up. I try opening my ipod using "my computer" but then that will freeze up as well. I'm trying to restore my ipod to see if that will help, but since my itunes freezes, it can't detect my ipod, therefore I can't restore it.
My ipod is set to where I have to manually put songs on it instead of it syncing automatically (unsure if this has anything to do with the problem?)
My itunes and ipod work perfectly by themselves, and I haven't had a problem with connecting my ipod to the computer until now. I can't figure out how to fix the problem. Help!
(I've also plugged my ipod into every usb port on the computer and it doesn't make a difference).

    so does mine
