Ipod connector port problem

I think my port is starting to wear out, I have to push the cord in very hard for it to create enough contact to charge my ipod, does anyone know if this is cause from being dirty or is it wearing out?
is there a way to fix this?

Every cable reacts the same, they all go in about 3.9999/4 % in the port, just enough to not make a connection. only way I can make it work is to use an actual ipod dock and put support where it sits.
looking at the site you recommended to me, a new logic board is $200 lol, I was just looking for a quick cheap fix but I see that isn't happening.

  • IPod connector port not working

    Hi all,
I have a 160gb 7th gen iPod classic (also plays videos).
I've had this style iPod since around October of 2010. I had a problem with the first, brought it to the Apple Store, and received a new iPod in exchange. I'm not sure when this happened, perhaps a couple years ago, so the actual age of this current iPod is only estimated at best at two years old.
Recently my iPod stopped connecting to everything. The iPod works fine, plays music, etc., but it will not connect to anything through the 30 pin connector port at the bottom of the unit. To date, I've tried connecting it to two different PCs, two different types of wall adapters (both on a surge protector and directly into the wall), multiple cords (old fatties and new slims), and my car which has a USB hookup for iPods (that I've used for years; this is where I first discovered the connectivity problem). My radio says there is a USB error and my computer won't even register that something is plugged in.
My problem now is this: because I'm so far out of the warranty range, I'm afraid that Apple is going to bend me over for repair costs, not to mention the closest store is over a half hour away and my free time is very limited. I'm handy with electronics so I started looking into doing the repair myself, but I can't find the right parts. The customer support gent I spoke to said it was most likely a 30 pin connector but the only 30 pin connectors I can find online seem to be for the iPod Touch. I'm also unsure as to how many other parts could be messed up, like the wires from the 30 pin connector to the board, or perhaps some other small parts I'm unaware of.
Any guidance in this situation would be much appreciated!

Have you tried doing a hard reset yet? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.   Don't be afraid to try this more than once if necessary.

  • Where should I go to replace the connector port on my 6th gen ipod classic

My head unit on car Pioneer stereo w/usb port intermittently loses my ipod and  have to cycle through devices to see it again. sometimes i have to reconnect to usb cord for it to work. I suspect the connector port is damaged. I used to have a cord with push buttons to retain the connection and it was pulled free several times without releasing the retainers. Doh. Where can I repair this reasonably and if I do should I throw in a new battery? It's 3/4 years old.

Google iPod Repair service, hopefully there is one in your Area.

  • Mercedes car ipod connector will not navigate itunes

    Hi,
My ipod and iphone no longer work properly with any Mercedes ipod connector.
I cannot navigate itunes on the phone or ipad - the screen says "Connected to an ipod accessory"
I can navigate audible or other apps but not itunes.
This is a new problem and I have tried it out on 2 different model Mercs with an iphone and ipod.
Could this be caused by an apple update?
Does anyone know how to solve it.
    Thanks J

Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac?

  • How do I get my ipod shuffle/nano to play music in my 2009 hyundai elantra's ipod usb port? It reads the device (ipod) and says its "empty"?

I have a 2009 hyundai elantra with an ipod usb port, when I try to hook up my shuffle with its usb connector to my car, the stereo dashboard says its reading the device and then says the device is empty...therefore no music gets played or heard. What am I doing wrong? Or is there some sort of cable i need to be using with my ipod to get it to play in my car?Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either you have accidently posted this in the wrong forum (this is the LiveType discussion board), or the fora are screwing up again (if they ever stopped). To answer your question, though, you need some kind of converter that will export only the audio. I'm sure there are many free solutions out there, but not being familiar with Windows, the only one I know off the top of my head is Quicktime Pro ($30).
Either way, your iPod problems shouldn't be affecting your caps lock key.

  • Need to reset Nano sometimes to get audio out from iPod connector

When I connect the Nano (and 5G also), to one of my 3 docks, I sometimes have to do a reset to get line out audio out of the iPod connector. Anyone else see this behavior?

Yes, I have had identical behavior with mine twice when I hooked it up to my car charger with the audio out. Once reset it would work but then now I have more problems with mine. Still trying to figure out the glitches with this thing.

  • Can you use the iPod connector cable to charge the iPhone or

only the cable that came with the iPod?
Also, I put the iPhone briefly into my old inMotion speakers and a message
came up saying that the device didn't support an iPhone and would either not
charge my iPhone or have bad consequences for my iPhone-i wasn't sure-it did
    work in the speakers tho.

I use an iPod connector almost all the time and have never had a problem, even after market iPod connectors, but you'll get a different response depending on who you talk to. The guy at the Genius Bar told me yes, but phone support said no. Short answer...You should be able to use the iPod connector.
When you plug the iPhone into some 3rd party devices, you'll get a message stating "not compatible with iPhone" but that is because you are going to get interference because of the cell signal. You can put it into Airplane mode to avoid the interference or just deal with the interference and just click OK. That being said, I have read other posts where these devices do cause damage to the iPhone so proceed at your own risk.

  • The iPod Connector and using a car interface

I just bought a Video iPod and a new Acura RL. They offer an iPod connector as a $600 option. I bought it. It's so horrible that words cannot define how bad it works. Imagine an ipod stashed in the glove box and the only control you have is to advance to the next song in shuffle mode.
All I ever wanted on this car was a line-in jack. Why is that so hard for car manufacturers to get? So anyway, here's what I am looking for. Does someone know a way to connect audio into the male connector (that plugs into the ipod) so I can run a wire from the glove box and leave the ipod on my console? This way, the horrible voice interface won't be a problem and I can see the ipod and control it directly, while still have line-in quality to the stereo system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

I have a 2006 Acura RL and had the IPOD integration
installed yesterday. Bought a new photo IPOD. I get
it to work beyond being able to skip to the next
song in a shuffle, and Acura dealer has no clue. Is
it me or the equipment? Moreover, even if I get it
to work, it looks like all you will get is a hard to
hear voice giving you the first letter of a song or
album. What a disappointment. Any suggestions?
There's an 800 # you can call 800-382-2238 which is the Acura Customer Care Line and they will record your dissatisfaction. If enough people call, we will get some results.
I drove over to my radio shop (had a concealed radar detector installed) and he found the box they installed over the glove box. There's two possibilities: find a way to connect to the cable Acura drops in our glove box (audio in) and at least we can have the iPod in the cup holder and see what's playing. Or, wait for Acura to come out with their next gen of this stupid box. I am writing a letter to a few of the automobile magazines to let them know, since ipod integration is about the hottest auto accessory since the CD player.
Another option: Complain to your dealer and ask for a refund. They will probably uninstall it and give you your money back. You would lose the ability to pump the ipod into the RL's incredible stereo, which (as I am sure you have noticed) sounds fantastic.
Lets stay on top of this. If enough people raise their voice we may get an improved version some time soon.

  • Ipod battery charging problem not found in any posts

    OK here's the problem
The battery meter on my 5g flashes that charging symbol, even when it's not plugged in the wall.
And sometimes when I use my friends griffin charger it charges and than stays on the charged symbol even after I unplug it.
Also my apple charger doesn't work at all (not just mine, I borrowed my friends and it doesnt either work).
Also when I plug into the computer it mounts but doesn't charge.
OK I'll tell you what I did so far: I read ALL of apples related battery documents. I restored. I depleted the battery and recharged it. I bought a new cable.
I used my friends computer. I used the back USB port. Nothing is helping the ipod.
By the way I know for a fact that this all started when one time i did actually use the front usb port. It sort of jinxed the whole battery meter into it's current state. Any one with this problem? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

  • How to clean dock connector port on Itouch 3g?

What is the best way to clean out the dock connector port in the 3rd gen Ipod Touch? Its really dusty in there and I just wanted to clean it out. How could I do this without damaging anything?
Also, the outside speaker doesnt seem to be that loud, even on full volume. Would cleaning the dock connector port help, or is there anything I can do to make it louder?
    Thanks

I'd suggest just blowing it out with a can of compressed air if it's just dust and loose debris. Don't blast the connector, particularly not if the iPod is hot; the air stream can be cold which could crack things if it hits a hot surface. If there's contamination, careful cleaning with electrical contact cleaner (available at any electronic supply dealer) and a foam swap should suffice.
Cleaning the dock connector would have no effect on the volume of the speaker. Whether there's anything else you can do I don't know assuming restarting your iPod doesn't help. But perhaps someone else will have suggestions.
    Regards.

  • IPhone4 stopped charging the connector port isnt working!

I noticed in the early hours today my iPhone4 which was conected to the mains power with its supplied lead stopped charging, my phone continued to work fine but now down to 9% battery life.  The connector port isnt working it wont sync or charge; what can I do?

Try to verify whether the problem is the AC adapter, cable or phone. Try connecting it to the USB port on your computer. Try a different cable, try a different power adapter if you have one.
If the problem is the phone itself, I'd say take it to your Apple store and have it replaced.
Does the phone still sync with your computer OK? Does it indicate it's charging when plugged into your computer?

  • Can't plug sync/charge cable into iPhone connector port

Somehow, some debris has found its way into the dock connector port on my iPhone. I think it may be a crumb from a bagel (now you know what I had for breakfast today). Anyway, before I realized this debris was in there, I attempted to plug in my connector cable but it wouldn't go in due to the debris. To make matters worse, I think that when I tried to plug in the cable, it only jammed it in further. I tried to get it out by gently tapping my iPhone against my hand and also blowing compressed air into the port with no success. I might be able to stick a pin or something similar in to get out the debris but I am afraid I might damage the contacts on the connector.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? My iPhone needs to be charged so I need to get this fixed quickly.
    Eric

I appreciate the word of caution although I had already thought of that.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this and have a solution? Is it safe to stick a tiny rigid object in there to get the obstruction out? If I head over to my local Apple store, would they be able to help me with this problem?

  • My iPod has a problem. I cannot fit the charger into the bottom of the device, nor can I fit it on to the docking station. It is as if the bottom mechanism has been bent out of shape. Where would I get it repaired? Would it be expensive?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. The price depends upon model and capacity

  • Ipod touch sync problem error (9) tried almost everything. please help. thank u

    I HAVE AN IPOD TOUCH.
I WAS TO SYNC TO MUSIC INTO IT.
I KEPT ON GETTING ERROR (9).
AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIED I THOUGHT MY IPOD WAS
THE PROBLEM SO I RESWTORED BUT I STILL KEPT ON GETTING THE SAME RESULT.
SO I RE-DOWNLOADED MY ITUNES AGAIN, EVEN THO IT WAS UPDATED.
BUT STILL KEPT GETTING THE SAME RESULTS.
I TRIED DIFFERENT USB CABLES AND PORTS. BUT NOTHING.
I RAN A DIAGNOSIS TEST ON ITUNES AND EVERYTHING CAME OUT GREAT, BUT IT SAID IT COULDNT
FIND NO IPOD CONNECTED EVEN THO IT WAS.
SO IDK IF THE IPOD COULD BE THE PROBLEM.
I UPDATED MY VIRUS SECURITY PROGRAM AND OTHER UPDATES FROM THE COMPUTER.
I HAVE HAD THIS IPOD FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 YR AND I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE.
PLEASE HELP ME IF U CAN HELP ANY TIPS OR ADVICE !!!
    THANK U GOD BLESS.

I also am hoping someone can help - I just logged in to post this same problem.  I've been trying for days and have had no luck.  Plugged in my iPod, downloaded the update fine and it failed at "verify ipod restore" and put my device in Recovery Mode.  Can't get it out after trying tons of things, including different computers.  Decided finally to just run the Recovery and it's failing at the same part and both are giving me a "9" error.  I'm missing my iPod Touch!!
